《I Am the "God of Death", Whatever That Means. (Original)》The Past Part I. Chapter 32

As Vert slipped into unknown darkness called unconsciousness, his mind raced with memories as they flooded back to him piece by piece. The darkness bends and twists around him as a beautiful sight graces his eyes. He touches his body as he is now reliving his memories. His loose jersey is being grabbed on by several people as sweat drips from every surface of his body. He is being hugged by many as everyone around him has blurry faces as he seems completely torn about what is going on. A loud voice booms throughout the stadium that reminds Vert where he is.
"And the new NBA Champions are, the Minnesota Timberwolves!"
Small pieces of blue and grey paper are shot into the sky and rains down unto everyone in the stadium. Faces begin to become unblurry as he begins to recognize his teammates.
'Jimmy, Karl, Andrew, Jeff, Taj...'
Vert continues to say all of their names one by one as he can feel sorrow flow through his body. He remembers all of the good times they had, playing in foreign countries to spread basketball, doing charity events for poor families, Vert even had his own Charity to help Alcoholism and one for Orphans. The executive of the NBA walks up to Vert with a trophy in his hand. The executive's voice is blared throughout the speakers as he announces who has won the award everyone strives for.
"The Finals MVP is, Niko Smith!"
Hearing his old name called in such a fashion sends a jolt through Vert's as he is handed the gold and silver looking trophy. His best friend throughout his entire career, Karl-Anthony Towns, is holding the NBA Championship trophy as he stands next to Vert to take a picture. Everyone is screaming and jumping for joy inside the stadium and this amazes Vert. As he stands there in awe, seeping in the glory of winning, Vert can feel a slight tap on his shoulder. He looks around and sees the person who had tapped his shoulder was his beloved wife, Allie.
Her brown hair is covering her face so Vert parts it to the side. She is blushing and they both lean in for a kiss. Vert remembers that all he could think about at the time was 'I did it, I finally did it. Maybe now is better than ever to start a family huh?'. At the time Vert was 24 and would be entering his physical prime soon for basketball. Being the star of the team he is projected to get a $260 million, 4-year contract. As the whole team makes it to the locker room, champagne showers rained from above as the whole team celebrated their victories, a parade through Minneapolis was held as well. As Vert finally made it home with his wife, they both fell asleep in each other's arms while in their studio/apartment.

Vert wakes up to a completely different scene change, the once apartment has turned into a spacious room that Vert recognizes to be the mansion he bought after the championship run. He looks around and sees his wife sitting in the kitchen, hunched over a letter and crying. Bewildered at the sudden change of everything, Vert rushed up off the couch and towards Allie. She looks up at Vert and tries to speak but chokes on her tears. He puts his arms around and pulls her in close.
"It's okay, it's okay. What's wrong?"
Allie looks up at Vert and simply hands him a letter. It is a letter from the U.S. Army. He read over the letter and as he read about halfway through he was filled with a sense of dread and fear. A war had broken out about a year ago and the United States was fighting China and North Korea. Vert knew that the Army was in need of people but never would he of thought they would have a draft! The letter stated the Vert has been drafted and will be required to go fight for the United States in the current war. He didn't know what to think as he has just found out that Allie is pregnant. There is also the fact that his music career is picking up and he has a bright basketball career ahead of him. Distraught and horrified, Vert continued to hold his wife and pray for the best.
While holding his wife, everything around him began to crumble and he became shaken up by it and soon he was surrounded by darkness once more. He simply closed his eyes, waiting to be awoken. After a few seconds, an explosion can be heard and it shakes Vert's rib cage. He quickly opens his eyes and they are instantly filled with dirt and soot. He wipes them off and grabs his MK16 Scar. He checks for how much ammo it has and it seems that it has a full clip. He touches all over his body as he can feel his body armour, his M9 Beretta pistol, a few smoke grenades, an actual grenade, a knife, and his radio. Unaware of where he is, Vert looks around and it seems that he is in a small hut. The mission details start flowing back into his mind as he remembers that suspicious activities were seen in a small village and his squad were sent to investigate.

A bullet passes through the doorway that Vert was crouched beside and he can hear someone running towards him. He readies his SCAR and points it towards the doorway and slowly stepping backwards while crouched. His discipline is showing as he aim is completely steady even though his heart is racing.
"Private Smith, Private Smith! Are you in here?!"
The raspy voice of a man in his mid-thirties is heard as it becomes closer and closer. Vert can recognize this voice as his Sergeant. Sergeant Luck runs peeps his head through the doorway and lets out a sigh of relief when he sees Vert in the corner. Vert had put down his gun as soon as he realized who was saying his name and he gets up and jogs to his Sergeant. Smiling that he could finally see a familiar face in this horrifying setting, another bullet zooms through the doorway but misses both of the men. When they realized they were getting shot at, they both got to either side of the door frame, Vert going to the right and Luck going to the left. They both nod at each other and ready their guns. Knowing what to do, Vert pulls the pin to a smoke grenade, drops it, pulls the pin to an explosive grenade and throws it where the bullets are coming from. When the explosion is heard, the two run through the smoke, firing at everything they see move that isn't a friendly or a civilian. They make it through the village together, looking for the rest of their squad and killing about 26 Enemy soldiers in total. They make it to the town hall and press up against the wall near the door.
Luck tells Vert that the enemy commander is in here and they need to eliminate him. Confused on why they aren't looking for their other squad mates more, Vert listens to the higher ranked officer and gets ready to burst through the door. Luck plants a small thing of C4 and does a countdown. After the door explodes, Vert runs into the run even though his ears are ringing and are in pain. He points his gun all around the room and finds nothing. No one is here, there are just some rope and a chair. Vert walks towards the chair and sees a camera placed next to it. Thinking that he knows what it is, Vert decides to tell Sergeant Luck about it.
"Hey Sergeant Luck, I think this room is for-."
Vert is turning around mid-sentence and got the butt of the gun to his face. He fell down knocked out and with a broken nose. He wakes up to be tied to the chair, rope around his wrists and a bright light in his face. Hardly able to see anything due to the blinding light, Vert can hear someone speaking Chinese very fluently but he can't make out a single word of it. Knowing he is now a prisoner of war, Vert thinks of a way to escape. He tries to pull on the rope but nothing happens. He looks to his left and to his right and sees all of his equipment lying there, on the floor about 10 feet from him. Knowing that this will be a very bad situation, Vert just keeps quiet and tries to see the faces of his capturers. The light is too blinding though but Vert realizes something that causes his hands to form into balls of fists and him to bite down hard on the rope tied around his head and into his mouth to prevent him from talking.
'Where is Sergeant Luck and what have they done to him?'

YAOS 1 - Limitless Adventures - Yet Another OP Story Book 1
December 23rd 2018: Book 1 is now up at Smashwords and at Amazon. December 30th 2018: V1.1.2 of YAOS Book 1 is out, some content additions, fixed typos. Amazon's enhanced typesetting now displays tables properly. YAOS is shown through the eyes of some genius athlete getting OP inside a VR, ah wait, Full Immersion game, ?F.I.O?. Not a Hero, not a Nerd, just a driven individual paying for mistakes made, biding time until he can return to the Real World. He isn't defined like you'd normally do it, you can pick his looks and name all on your own, just like you do in video games. Believe it or not, keeping his looks undefined is harder than you think. His backstory isn't expounded in detail, but it drives his choices. Book 1 isn't about depressing sob stories but about fun and rushing forward, pursuing new horizons. Oh, and you'll end on a cliffhanger! Well, most serials do, so you will probably expect that without being told explicitly. But it isn't that bad, there's a lot of reveals and more to come once this book, that is the first in a planned three-part series, is finally ready for release on amazon et al. The published version will have: 1.) Godawful speaker tags, I hate them, they make you stop thinking and speed up editing so much. In hindsight they should have been in to begin with. But I stand by my goals proclaimed earlier. You guys should think while reading, that is the whole point of the exercise. Apply the knowledge and ideas, improve yourself, get creative! 2.) Pretty colored tables, the damned blue boxes, a lot of work, 69 in one book. Finally fixed amazon's centering issue. Can't say I liked the hours needed to debug that. 3.) The promised Mitara chapters. 4.) A cover! 5.) And lastly, updated polished versions of several chapters. MC shares more of his past, some terrible chapters (esp. 32) finally work. Some new scenes, minor rewrites in parts. Text flow and other issues. The current challenge is to maintain essential ambiguity while satisfying people wanting to know more without thinking three steps ahead. Balancing one with the other is tough. The smut which was in remains, but the story told is not to be superseded by it. A 15+ rating for the first book is also important, not to mention, YAOS wasn't meant to contain any smut to begin with. If the Author can turn to writing full time his output should increase, so please support YAOS #1 once it does finally release. ~Thank You~ No maps so far, that should be in, but is really hard to get done right. Again, tips are appreciated. Update September 2017: Stubbed chapters, sorry guys, currently don't have time to upload them elsewhere, polishing book 1 and 2, writing 3, takes precedence. Book 1 is in heavy editing, too much to keep synced and continuing editing. I'd need a site which offers JS-free rapid managing of chapters and comments. Coding one myself or setting a premade up is out of scope until I'm done with the books. RRL-old offered that, nuff said. This is only here because the author believes in fairies, nobody reads this, most likely. October to December 2017: Life threw some curveballs. February 2018: Book 2 draft 1 completed, at ~150K words. Book 2 is fairly epic in scope, requires 1 rewritten chapter, some editing. Tables and miscellanea are in, but needs at least a grammar pass. March 2018: Book 3 at 28k words, first arc, rest needs serious planning for spin-off and satisfying conclusion. July 2018: Yet another proofing/editing session of books 1-3, 101+ chapters, ~300k words. B3 at 48k, starts out great, but no ETA, no wordcount limit, in flux. But prioritizing my writing cannot be done, I hate the delays as much as you, but you will prefer the whole released in a timely fashion rather than wait. Knowing myself how excruciating waiting can be, at least you'll get significantly polished versions and an ETA on book 2 by release of book 1. December 23rd 2018: Book 1 is now up at Smashwords and in the process at Amazon et. al.. . To all who wait patiently, offered feedback, thanks again!
