《I Am the "God of Death", Whatever That Means. (Original)》The beginning of Necromancy. Chapter 17

The fire has subsided and all that is left is a wide pile of ash where the town of Exail used to be. The ash has yet to fully settle and is still flying about. Vert is walking through the burning ash while spinning his Death of God scythe. He searches around for anything that can salvagable but there are not even corpses left after that inferno. Vert takes a good look at the 7-foot long scythe again and it feels as if it is a part of him. He can feel the souls swirling about inside of it as if they were inside of him.
'What a weird feeling. I have no corpses I can use Resurrect on so let's try to make one from scratch.'
Vert outstretches his right hand towards the scythe in his left hand and a soul slowly tears itself away from the blade of the scythe. The soul begins to do circles in Vert's palm as he looks at it with his deep red eyes. He stares at it for a long time while thinking about what he can do with this. He takes the soul and places it into the ground.
"Manifest."
The ground begins to part as a sickly looking being arises. The creature is a sickly green and is basically skin and bones. Every bone in its body is being shown and it has a screaming expression on its face.
'Hello, master.'
The ghastly being kneels down and bows to Vert. It stays there as if waiting for a command. It didn't even speak verbally but in fact spoke telepathically. Vert was very surprised when this happened.
'State what you are.'
'I am a Ghoul, Master.'
'What can you do?'
'Anything that is asked of me and is within my capabilities.'

Vert scratches his head with his scythe and thinks about what he could do with this Ghoul. He doesn't know how strong it is, how intelligent it is or even if it needs food or not. The Ghoul senses the restlessness is his Master so he helps him out.
'Check my stats.'
'Stats?'
Vert looks at the Ghoul with a quizzical look and a sudden idea pops in his head. Something about a web novel he read, whatever that was, had something like this. All you had to was say 'Status Check' for yourself and you could even show yourself the status of other creatures as long as you owned them.
'Maybe this is how it works here? Status Check.'
Name: ????? -----------Classes------------- --------Powers------- -------Skills-------- Titles: God of Death, Vert DJ: Level 100 Blood Bending Level 5 Natural Born Killer ---------Attributes---------------- God of Death: Level 25 Death of God Level 1 Leader of the Dead STR: 504,569 Necromancer: Level 5 Resurrect Level 1 Scent of Death DEX: 603,938 Blood Bender: Level 20 Pressure Level 10 Aura of Death WIS: 500,817 Dark Arts: Level 5 After Image Level 5 Betrayer MNT: 100 Lightning Master Level 10 God Form 1 MAX Unbreakable LCK: 99 MAXED Lightning Bolt Level 5 Health: 300,000 Lightning Skin Level 1 ---------Race-------- Mana: 200,000 Manifest Level 1 Human
An image appears in Vert's head as he looks at what is considered his 'Stats'. He doesn't really know what to look for but he thinks this is impressive compared to what he saw in the supposed Web Novel. MNT, which was Mental fortitude, looked a little low but LCK, which was Luck, maxed out at 99 so maybe 100 was high. Little did he know that is was actually severely weak. He kept observing all of his skills, classes, and powers and he was still confused. He knew how to do all of this stuff but didn't know there was a name for it.

'What sort of magic can tell me this stuff?'
He says this to the Ghoul but it stays silent and continues to kneel. Apparently, this was out of the Ghouls knowledge. Vert decided to check the Ghouls status.
'Check Status.'
Nothing happened.
"Check Status."
This time he says it aloud and still, nothing happens. A small black orb falls from the sky. Vert recognizes it as one that looks like he completed an achievement. He cracks open the orb and looks at the note inside.
"Congrats God of Death! I'm not gonna lie we were a little behind on this one but you completed another Achievement! This was *Make a self-conscious being* and your reward is to be able to see their statuses and the knowledge of all the undead and what souls make what undead! Yay, exciting right?! - Council of Gods."
A small ball of light inserts itself inside of Vert's head and he can feel the complete knowledge of every single undead begin to fill his head. The ability to check his undead's statuses is also given to him.
'Check Status.'
A table appears in Vert's head.
Name: Fumiko Yuki -----------Classes------------- --------Powers------- -------Skills-------- Titles: None Ghoul: Level 1 None None ---------Attributes---------------- STR: 100 DEX: 50 WIS: 20 MNT: 40 LCK: 1 ---------Race-------- Health: 300 Ghoul Mana: 0
Vert choked a little when he saw the pitiful stats of the Ghoul he had made. Apparently, it was a she, and her name was Fumiko Yuki. Vert decided to just call her Ghoul for now.
'So Ghoul, how do you level up.'
'I leave up by defeating enemies of master.'
'So, you're supposed to be an offensive class, wow that's sad. Anyways this is your first order. Go find something to do and level up.'
The Ghoul, who still had the face as if she was screaming, rose up and ran off into the distance. Vert didn't know where she went or what she would do but that was not important to him. He had gained the knowledge of what soul would manifest into what type of being and he began to laugh. That Ghoul would likely try to kill some random passerby that just so happened to meet it but Vert was more focused on the soul of Sekreath. He pulled out the glowing, massive soul and stuck it into the ground.
"Manifest."

Campaign: A Project Starfarer Sidestory
This novel’s lore, story and characters are entirely fictitious. Certain long-standing countries, institutions, organizations, agencies, and public offices are mentioned, but their histories and the characters involved are wholly imaginary. "What will you do with your freedom?"Growing up in a meritocracy, infamous for being lawless, Jordan Astros had been repeatedly asked this question, since times unmemorable. In a society where one's accomplishments and skills were tallied and ranked in order to determine one's standard of living however, Jordan quickly grew to understand that 'freedom,' was a reward earned by accumulating Merit. And so, after his 17th birthday, Jordan departed his Clan's habitat in orbit of Europa to embark on his century-long journey to rise from E-Ranker to S-Rank. And spread his name throughout the Galilean Powers. *** Campaign is a sidestory within its NanoPunk parent series, Project Starfarer. (Yet to be published. Be on the lookout for it!) In which the first transhuman known to humanity, the Starfarer, invokes a plan to seed terrestrial life throughout the galaxy. Campaign takes place around the middle of that timeline and explores the life of a key figure in that universe, Jordan Astros. And explores one of four great nations thriving in the Solar System during that time. A Meritocracy that spans Jupiter and its 79 moons, The Galilean Powers. What you'll find in Campaign: Brutal melee combat in airless and pressurized low gravity environments. A technology based progression system influenced by merit and accomplishments; using tech that's theoretically possible to exist in the near-future. An exploratory perspective of the dozens of Galilean societies, or 'Powers,' from Jordans; and sometimes others', POV. What you wont find: Romance. Harems. An MC who receives shortcuts, handouts, learns things unnaturally fast or has OP plot armor. Jordan is not a special individual. Jordan is not OP and he likely never will be. He's no different than any other citizen in the Galilean Powers and will certainly face as many defeats as he does wins. He'll suffer losses and grow as an individual, while the Powers evolves around him as well. This is semi-hard sci-fi/NanoPunk and takes place in a fictional version of our future solar system. Centered around technology that's plausible in the near-centuries to come. Everything abides by the laws of physics/thermodynamics (As best that I understand them, at least. I'm no scientist.) No artificial gravity, inertial dampeners, teleportation, FTL, or hand-wavy materials will be found in the Project Starfarer universe. Just advanced automation, nanotechnology, cybernetics and AI. Set in the backdrop of space. *I do not own the photo used for the cover*

Disclaimer: This novel is clearly tagged gore, and this within reason, so please keep that in mind while reading. Though the early chapter suggest that this novel is slice of life one, especially in the first 40 chapters, it must be clarified that this novel is first and foremost a progression fantasy tagged gore and grimdark.
