《Archillies Duane : The World Traveller》Chapter 16

“Hey Arc, could you teach me how to fight?”
Asked Rain, on our 6th day.
At first, she wasn’t interested, but after seeing a couple of spars between me and the Arms, she gradually got interested, until she asked.
“Sure…give me a second..”
I used Inspect on her, to find out that she achieved the stat merge, with 200 points in each of her stats.
Her name, on the other hand, was called ‘Rain’.
It seems that at the beginning, she was nameless..
Which brought me to this subject..
“Before that, would you like to pick a second name?”
“Hmmm? What do you mean?”
“In this world, a person is allowed to pick whatever second name they want, and I thought you would do so.”
“Then I will call myself Rain Arch-”
“No! I don’t want to become a father.. pick another one not related to me.”
“um… I know! Rain Blue, how’s that sound?”
She made a cute grin towards me, but I couldn’t resist it, so I blushed.
“-It works..”
“Yay!”
She is too active..
Rather, her stats are abnormal too.
Those SS ranks I fought had an average of 200-300 depending on their level and whether they did some ‘Stat Training’ or not.
Remembering that I had a lot of stats, I decided to dump 64 levels worth of stats equally into the three stats equally (1536/3), gaining +512 in the process.
I glanced at Rain’s Status screen once again, and looked at her class.
Her class was called ‘Hero’?
Shouldn’t that be for summoned people?
Anyhow, with her single level, I decided to teach her fighting first, and test her aptitude in magic.
While I’m at it, let’s create some ‘Weights’ to train our stats.
Although I might not need it with my easy access to leveling up, but I always like to be safe than sorry.
I took out a set of clothes, then made a special enchantment on it.
The enchantment basically make the clothes heavier the stronger I am, thus making it infinitely efficient.
And due to all my stats merging, whenever my Body stat increases, every stat inside it increase as well.

Stat merging is truly overpowered.
Anyhow, once I got the enchantment ready, I put it on, and it fit well.
I tried walking with it, but it felt as if I was wearing my school bag all over my body.
Anyhow, taking my first 10 steps, a pop up came.
-Ding!
“Due to hard physical work, +3 Body”
It wasn’t even..
No matter.. no matter..
I asked Rain if she would like one, which she accepted, so I made her another set of clothes, then enchanted it with defensive enchantments and the weight enchantments.
I dyed it with a purple and gray colour, then handed it to her.
Once she wore it, she told me that she felt nothing new, so I remembered that I had modified the weight enchantment so it could he activated or deactivated.
I told her to say ‘Activate’, which she did, then she started shaking while standing.
“You okay?”
“Y-yeah.. just getting used to it.”
Now that I think about it, I never looked at what the ‘Hero’’s effects are.
I used Inspect on Rain once again, then looked at her class.
--Class : Hero
-Effects :
Abilities are x100 easier to gain Have all the stats start at 200 Stats are x100 easier to gain Levels and Ability levels take 500 XP to level up, and that number won’t increase Invulnerability to mind and soul magic Aptitude to all types of magic and abilities. Stat points gained per level : 10 Skill points gained per level : 10
Oh-oh..
That is dangerous for such a carefree person.
Not that the way I treat her will change, she is still the same Rain in my eyes.
“Hey.. How many Body points did you gain right now?”
“20”
I stared dots at her.
This is too much…
Not really compared to my current stats, but she will surpass it in less than a week.
Should I…
Nah, it’s all good.
“Alright, let us train… First off, let us try training with daggers.”
“But I want to fight with a greatsword…”
-Ding!
“Absolute Luck activated.”
What?
Suddenly, I could feel many people around us, and if that wasn’t enough, my leveled up ‘Map’, which allows me to see everything in 30m radius, now could let me see alive creatures.

I took out my dual scythes, and gave the greatsword to Rain.
It really matches her white hair, huh.
Beforehand, I made sure to bestow them in all good enchantments, from healing to increased damage and unbreakable, but the ‘Unbreakable’ is somewhat unstable, so I won’t count on it.
I told her to get ready and deactivate the weights, but she refused, stating that it is better with them.
I sighed, and at that time, a big, burly man, a lot like Grovan, except for the Greataxe he is holding, stepped up.
“Give up your possessions and your woman and we will let you live.”
I frowned, but then I saw one of his underlings holding a silver greatsword just like mine.
Hmm.. It could have been better..
Anyhow, once I recalled his words, I thought..
Is pedophilia normal?
I decided to ignore that thought for now, since he seemed to be getting impatient.
“What will you do? Surrender or die.”
I decided to step back, and pushed her forward with a smile.
She looked at me with a confused face, but then I whispered to her.
“Rampage all you want, I’ll guard your back.”
She smiled back at me, then gave a grin as she held her greatsword in a strange stance.
Actually, it is another technique that I didn’t learn.. I wonder where she got it.
How do I know it is a technique?
Due to me learning all of the ways, I found something in common.
Footwork and breathing are always matching.
With her greatsword held in front of her, she dashed at the leader, and swung sideways in an instant.
“What?”
He asked, then his upper body slid off his lower body, then fell face first on the ground.
The underlings looked surprised, but not for long, then rushed towards her while brandishing their blades.
Although they are skilled, she is more than them.
Without batting an eye, the sword was covered with flames, then she swung, releasing the flames in a straight line that cuts and burns anything in front of it.
5 out of 20, including the leader, were defeated, and continued on.
Then out of nowhere, ice bolts were floating around Rain, about 10 to be exact.
She released them, and they all pierced either the head or the heart, with no resistance.
With only 5 remaining, they tried to flee, but the Arms didn’t let them go and strangled them.
I told them to leave one alive so that I could probe their mind for the headquarters location.
Thankfully, it all went without a hitch, except for the smell of iron, burned flesh and blood.
I told the hands to strip and loot the ‘Available’ weapons and armor, while I used Earth magic to make way to bury them.
Thankfully, no blood was splattered on Rain’s clothes, but she was surprisingly savage.
“Where did you learn how to fight like that?”
“Huh? I don’t know.. it was just on impulse, I guess.”
I don’t believe so, maybe she has amnesia?
But, that doesn’t explain the familiarity from when I first met her.
Ugh.. there are too many questions that bring forth more questions.
Maybe the meteor is the answer, if I was able to see what is on it/inside it, then it would all solve itself.
Why does this world have a ‘System’?
Where does magic come from?
What is the reality of a Skill Tree? Is it connected to our souls in another world? Or are they just something to visualize skills?
And even more unanswered questions annoyed me.
But I do not wish to spend all my life researching it, this should be for someone else.
While I was pondering, the Arms had gathered the loot and buried the dead men, and now we were ready to start.. training?
From what I’ve seen right now, her technique in handling the greatsword is stronger and smoother than any I know.
Maybe she should be the one teaching me.
Or.. maybe my ancestors know..
I can’t rule out the fact that my grands were world travellers as well.
With that thought in mind, once again, I stared at the last skill..
…

NEWDIE STEADSLAW Part I
NEWDIE STEADSLAW is a randomized array of Chekhov's red herrings, non sequitors ex machina, run-on sentences, and em dashes—so many em dashes. It's like if the Bible and Shakespeare had a baby that they surrendered to foster care, then it got adopted by Alice in Wonderland and Dr. Seuss—the books, not the people—and then the baby fell down the stairs. In this metaphor, the stairs wrote the story. Part I is the tale of the adventures of Traycup and Roby as they try to hold down a job inside the hollow Earth—a place made possible thanks to the secret science of embargoed relativity—and they get distracted by dancing foxes, a giant's record collection, and something with a train, I think. It's a work of fiction—although to call it work seems insulting to, y'know, actual work—but the fiction label is apt, so, y'know, that's a win. Half the words are made up, and the other half are embarrassed to be seen with them. Part I is complete.

Everything is mostly fine until one day, in the depths of the woods, they stumble across a two hundred year-old monk and a living, breathing — or, rather, snoring — dragon who need their help.
