《The horseman, death》Chapter 7

Following the tracks was really simple. Those 2 weren't even trying to hide their trail. We followed the broken sticks, the crushed leaves, and the kicked up dirt through the forest. The only problem was that they were surprisingly fast. If I was by myself I might have been able to catch up to them. But cristal is tagging along and she isn't really the athletic type. After an hour of chasing them she reached her limit.
Cristal: I (pant) c..can't go... on.
I knew that the longer we wait the more the trail will be lost. So I picked her up and carried her princess style.
Cristal: W-what are you doing?!
I looked at her, she was a bit red in the face. Then answered her.
Me: We can't lose them by wasting time and this way is faster.
I immediately took off. Our speed can't even compare to before. Cristal was holding onto me for dear life with her nails starting to go through my skin.
(Author: Funny how she holds onto death for her life.)
As I was following the trail my mind began to wonder. I began to wonder about the book. Besides the whole death note mimicry stuff, is there other things the book is capable of? Then I began to remember yesterday. During cristal's never ending babbling I was able to learn some more about magic. While everyone can use magic there are those that are born with a legendary magical power. Only those born with it can use it. Though their is another way to get legendary magic. A long time ago when the world was consumed in a never ending war. The humans summoned heroes from another world to aid them.
Each hero had power's that a normal person would take half a lifetime to learn. Though the leader's of the hero group had legendary magic that they used to bring the war to a end and allow the world peace. Legendary magic is something extremely rare so no one can teach you it. You can only discover how to use your powers by yourself. I know my magic is legendary thanks to what cristal told me but I wonder if my powers only limited to gray orbs or if I can do more with it. I should probably start experimenting with it. Then there are the souls that are really odd.
Each soul is different while some are similar to other's. Those knights each had a soul that was mostly white while a little gray. Of course some were brighter than others. The bandit's had souls that looked like a dark murky green. Of course I chucked it up to a souls experience in life and wondered what other types of souls their are. Lastly we have the reaper subject. What kind of people should I turn into reaper's? I think they should each be different soul wise. And I have to make sure they are loyal to me so they don't wonder off. I know they will have my power's but I wonder if I should make sure they are physically strong.

As I continued thinking we hit our destination before I knew it. The 2 bandits ran right back to a camp full of them. There was a small army of them camped out in a clearing with a wooden wall surrounding them. I watching them from atop a hill.
Cristal: What should we do know?
Me: We wait and watch.
For 4 hours we watched them. At first a small group went out probably trying to find us. But I didn't give them any concern as I made little to no trail and if they did find my trail they would probably think it was some animal. We continued to observe them after the group left. They simply fought, got drunk, or boasting about something that we couldn't make out from our distance. We took turns observing the camp. When cristal was observing I asked her how to train legendary magic.
Cristal: Well first I would say that you need to find your mana core. It's somewhere inside your very being. To find it you just need to block out the world around you and focus on the one point in your being that radiates power. After that try and use your magic in anyway you can imagine to find the limit of your powers. That should help you out with discovering your power's capabilities.
Me: You sure know a lot about how to learn legendary magic. Is Your a legendary magic?
Cristal: No my magic is a power a assassin came up with to leave no trace behind. Anyone can use it but it takes 10 years and a great amount of mana to produce it without unleashing it upon yourself. The only reason I learned it is because I was a natural at it. The only reason I know how to train a legendary power is because our village's founder had a legendary power and wrote down his experiments with it in a book.
Me: Thanks for the information, this will help me greatly.
Cristal: No prob. I to want to know more about your power.
After our little discussion I stepped a few feet away, sat down and began to find my mana core. I did as cristal said and blocked out the outside world. The scenery around me went black as I closed my eyes. When I concentrated a little more the noises the were everywhere were lost to the void. I concentrated a little more and I felt a strong force coming from my body. I searched for it's origin and it led me to the area in the middle of my chest.

Cristal: HEY!
I broke out from my faze when I was shaken violently with a loud voice shouting at me.
Me: What?
Cristal: It's your turn to watch.
Me: Alright. I just hope you didn't give away our location with your yelling.
Cristal: I couldn't help it. You wouldn't wake up after the first few tries.
Me: Oh. Well then I apologize.
Cristal: Uhh huh. Well anyway have fun watching those idiots.
I then began my watch. We continued like that with me searching for my mana core when i'm off and cristal getting ready when i'm on watch. When that group that left came back that's when I decided to strike.
Me: Alright it's time to strike. Do you think you can back me up down there.
Cristal: Are you crazy?! I would die down there. I'll stay up here and launch my magic from this safe distance thank you.
Me: Fine but you better be ready because some might see you and come for you.
Cristal: I can pick them off before they even get here.
Me: Well then let's get to work.
I then rushed off down the hill towards the bandit camp. When I reached the wall I simply kicked a big hole in it. The bandits all looked my way and just stared trying to asses the situation. I looked around and realized that the things I thought were small houses were actually tents bigger than your camping tent. Then they attacked. They all rushed at me with their weapons raised. I took out my sword and charged them. I was fast enough to close the gap between us and already slit the throats of 5 men. After I slit their throats though I realized that the sword was a little dull. It really isn't that good a weapon and the only thing going for it is the thing where flesh around the cut seems to be eaten by something. This weapon sucks is what I thought then I had a flashback moment.
It was back on earth in Greece. We were following a lead that might tell us who did this to us. We had to rely on computers and documents since people mostly die in our presence. We had just finished taking care of a group of soldiers that were sent to kill us.
War: Hey Death! How come you never stick with a weapon?
Me: What do you mean? I always have a weapon.
War: No I mean your main weapon. You always have a secondary weapon but you never keep a main weapon.
Me: I don't know. I just don't can't seem to get used to them.
War: IS THAT IT! HAHAHA. Listen Death you will one day find a weapon and it will feel right when you use it. That is your weapon so you must search for it.
Me: Alright already. I'll try to look for the weapon that's just right for me.
After having my memory end I looked around and realized more than half the bandit's are already died. Some I didn't even touch. That's when I remembered cristal and thought that she could rival a sniper since the distance from her location to the camp was a good distance from each other. The bandit's seem to have fear on their faces like they saw a monster that would devour them in a second. They then start running away trying to do anything to get away from me.
I then turn to look up the hill cristal was on. I could see her descending down the hill. I then noticed the 3 bodies at the bottom of the hill.
Me: Guess those poor bastards thought she was a easy target.
She soon reached the camp and walked towards me.
Cristal: So what now?
Me: Obviously we loot the place. These guys might have something that is really important.
Then we began our search of the bandit camp.

A Universe of Bloody Evolution
The Void was never meant to be opened to the Multiverse. The horrors waiting inside it should have never seen the light. And yet, the biggest mistake in the history of creation led to the impossible. In an event later known as the Outbreak, gates appeared in the first Universe, and with them, the Void was free. For ages the Void destroyed universe after universe, spreading its power in every direction, leaving only death and pain behind. But before every Universe met its end, it still had a chance. A small part of the population that survived the initial Outbreak and was granted a mysterious System to help them fight against the dangers that came from the Void. They were the Multiverse's last hope even if they couldn't stop the collapse of their own world. And so the cycle continued until the 36th Outbreak came. Leo Hale, a young reporter from Wolford, was one of the lucky ones to survive when the majority of Earth's population turned into monsters straight out of nightmares. Thrust into a constant battle for his life, Leo was determined to push forward and find his remaining family. Even if it meant sacrificing what was left of his humanity. After all, you either adapt or die. Story of progression and evolution with my take at the post-apocalyptic genre. Unlike most monster evolution stories where the monster rushes to gain human form, here I plan to do something quite the opposite. After all, in a world where almost everything wants to kill you, being human can be hard. Warnings are here to give me the freedom to write whatever is necessary. This is my first original novel. Also English isn't my native language so any feedback is welcome. Remember that even if initially this story takes place on Earth, fictional places, streets, etc will appear. Release Schedule: Monday - Wednesday - Friday Average chapter length: 2000-2500 words (There might be exceptions as is the case with some of the first chapters - most of them are longer.)
