《The horseman, death》Chapter 5

When people say a weapon I think of something that can kill people. Not a accessory.
Woman: This is your weapon.
Me: No. This is jewelry.
Woman: Well yes. But because of what it does for the one who wears it it can be considered something that leads to great weapons.
I was still skeptical but I waited a week for this so I had to try. I put on the ring wondering if something would happen. ...Nothing. Not a thing happened. No light, no surge of power, and no pain.
Me: Is something supposed to happen?
Woman: W-well the diamond should change to the color that represents the exact opposite of the magic your most in-sync with.
Then the ring turned gray.
Woman: What? What is this?
Me: Is something wrong?
Woman: It turned gray. IT SHOULDN'T TURN GRAY!
Me: Why can't it be gray?
Woman: GRAY DOESN'T REPRESENT A MAGIC TYPE.
Me: Seriously, calm down. Your making my ears ring.
Woman: Okay, okay. (Sigh)
Me: Now tell me what's going on.
Woman: Their can only be 2 reasons as to why it turned gray that come to mind. 1 is that the ring that everyone had a hand in to make is worthless besides changing color. Or your magic is abnormal.
Most likely that it's my power that's abnormal instead of a village full scholars missing something. Though it is a prototype.
Me: Well is it still useful to me?
Woman: I don't know. If it's the ring than no. But if it's your magic than either you already have the power this ring would offer or you can't use any magic besides the one you have.
I took off the ring and gave it back.
Woman: What are you doing?
Me: What you just said put simply is that the ring is useless to me. So i'm leaving.
I headed up to the first floor and started to leave. But as soon as I got outside I was greeted by the knights again only this time there was 40 of them. Guess they knew something was up since all those other guy's never returned. Of course I knew this would happen sooner or later but I wanted it to happen later. Oh well it happened so let's deal with it.
They all looked at me with killing intent radiating off them. I was about to conjure up my magic but a voice rang out from in front of the crowd.
???: I knew something was wrong when our patrols went missing! One of the demons from Braxen is still alive!
A man in bright white armor appeared before me. He looked more dignified than the others and the eyes in his helmet showed battle experience. This guy must be really strong to project eyes like that. They thought I was a survivor of their little raid a week ago.
???: We will show you what happens when you mess with the holy church! ATTACK!!
All 40 of them rushed me. I conjured up my limit which was 10 gray orbs. I then launched at the crowd fully ready for the fight ahead. As they were about to hit their targets some people dodged while others blocked. Needless to say the ones who blocked died instantly. The ones who dodged simply made the person behind them the next target. As each ball can take 2 lives before running out I easily took half of them out.

Before I could make another 10 they were upon me. I dodged their attacks and countered sometimes with a punch or kick that could easily smash metal. Some of them were mages as I could soon see ice shards that looked really sharp and a few fireballs headed my way. One lance struck my left lung and a fireball blew off my right foot. After this the knights all stopped. They must think it's their victory since any normal person would fall from such wounds. But I wasn't normal.
They only stopped for a second but that's all I need. I quickly conjured up some more orbs and made quick work of them. The only one I left alive was the knight in white armor. He was standing 10 feet away from me shaking. I took out the ice shard and the hole could visibly be seen closing. He tried to turn and run but as soon as he turned around I threw the shard at his kneecap. The shard pierced right through his kneecap and sent his leg flying. He fell down and hit the ground with a loud (THUNK). He turned on the ground to look at his now missing leg and back at me. Those eye's that showed confidence and experience only showed fear and despair.
White Knight: Wait please stop! What your doing is a crime against the church that serves directly under his majesty. They will have your head for this.
I continued to walk towards him as he tries to crawl away hardly making any progress. When I reached him I bent down, grabbed his neck and lifted him up with ease.
Me: I don't give a damn about any of that. Though I will tell you I do not feel any ill will to you or your men. You just simply came at a bad time.
I was about to kill him when he took out 2 knives from his back. 1 went through my heart while the other slit my neck. I simply looked at the dagger that was piercing my heart then looked back up at the knight. I spoke and my words came out sounding like a deep gurgling sound but still understandable.
Me: Sorry but not gonna work.
I then crushed his neck killing him instantly. I dropped him to the ground and I proceeded to sit down surrounded by the many corpses that were lying around. I looked at my blown off foot and saw that it was 1/4 restored. I felt a stare at my back so I turned and saw the woman at the doorway with a look of fear on her face.
Me: How long have you been there?
Woman: A-after you took care of half of them.
Me: I see.
I got up and started to walk away. But with a foot that was currently regrowing that was kind of difficult.
Woman: E-excuse me?
I turned and saw the woman approaching though she seemed a little reluctant to do so.
Me: What is it?
Woman: Well i'm not as dumb as you think. I know that a group this size takes time to organize. What happened.

She was now in front of me blocking my way. I could see she was wearing the ring on her finger and the crystal had a sort of bright yellowish color to it. She could currently out run me since my foot wasn't 100 yet.
Me: Fine i'll tell you.
I told her how I found her on the night of the raid and how she didn't do anything. I also told her what I did to the body's of those in the area. After I gave her a rundown of the past week she looked down a little.
Woman: Sorry for trying to kill you.
Me: Don't worry i'm not mad about it.
Woman: But I need to repay you. If not for you I would be dead right now.
Me: No need. I simply stayed around for the ring but since it's useless for me I need to leave.
I was about to leave. I could feel my foot was close to finishing but she still stopped me.
Woman: There must be something I can do for you.
Me: Why are you so desperate to repay me? Especially since I was about to kill you a few minutes ago.
Woman: Because I was raised to always repay a favor.
Me: That can't be the only reason.
Woman: Well...i'm...kinda interested in...in you.
Me: Why is that?
Woman: It's your magic. I saw it from inside the house. To kill instantly and to heal so fast and even regrow lost limbs. I never heard of any magic like this.
Me: (sigh)
I knew this moment would come so I simply decided to answer her.
Me: My power is something a normal person could never use. Much less hope to understand.
She looked like she was annoyed by what I said.
Woman: Am I to take that as a challenge?
This took a sudden turn and possibly down a road that would lead to trouble.
Me: No i'm just saying that those who mess with powers like mine would never last long.
Woman: HA! I'll have you know I was one of the smartest people in this village. But I never heard of magic like yours. To be able to kill without leaving behind any wound or reaction. The only thing that comes close is my magic.
So that's what that beam was. But still, Why was she so interested in my magic? I would think there were other kinds of magic like mine. So I told her what I thought.
Woman: Well your power is different from everything else. The proof is this ring. The magic I was weak in is a light magic that helps a persons moral. I of course knew the spell but I could not manifest it well. Though when I put the ring on after you left I could do it. So that means your magic is in a category all on it's own. That just makes the scholar inside me want to learn all I can from it.
Oh crap! I need to get rid of her.
Me: You should know that my magic once completely released destroy's everything it touches.
Woman: I don't care I want to learn all I can from your power so i'm going with you.
Well this wasn't supposed to happen. Though while were travelling I may accidentally kill her and she is quite knowledgeable about magic and hopefully this world. So I can use her until she slips and get's herself killed. I put my hand's up showing a sign of surrender and spoke.
Me: Fine but I won't be responsible for what happens to you.
She smiled at me with a smile many men would kill to see.
Woman: HOORAY! My name is Cristal Shaliette.
She held up her hand. I grabbed it.
Me: Many simply call me death.
She froze a little for possibly 2 reasons. My heart beat has slowed down considerably so my body is much colder thanks to the decrease in blood flow. Or she actually knows that she's actually dealing with death.
Cristal: I-I can believe people call you that but can you please tell me your real name?
Me: I don't know. It's lost to me.
She looked a little saddened by hearing this.
Cristal: I see. Well wait here while I get some things so don't leave me.
As she left I began thinking of if I should really leave her. She would only be a hindrance to me even if it's simple traveling. But I need to be more knowledgeable about this world if the trigger for the apocalypse isn't pulled. So I waited. When she came back she was wearing a clean robe and had a bag on her back. Since she was ready we left. As we were leaving the village she saw the corpses that I didn't touch and a sad look was on her face. She looked at the ground till we were a little bit away from the village. So we continued down a dirt road with cristal asking me questions about my powers.
I answered the best I could without revealing anything about god, the apocalypse, or that i'm from another world. We continued like this until it was getting dark. We made a little camp on the side of the road next to a forest. We hunted a few rabbits and cooked them over a fire. After eating cristal took out a sleeping bag and got in it to go to sleep. When she fell asleep I was suddenly very fatigued and I could not help but fall asleep.
???: Hello Death.
I opened my eye's and saw I was on the coach in the wooden room.
Me: Hello god.
God: Death we need to talk about your powers.

Lost Things
"In this disordered continent, where everyone seeks to be the heroes of their own tales, there are still some rooms for smaller stories to breathe." "Past, present, and future—keep your eyes open, and see where they lead you to." This story follows three housemates’ lives: Carson Calding, Virgil Barion, and John Salore—onto their adventures of finding Carson’s past, Virgil’s present, and John’s future. Despite their clashing backgrounds and circumstances that forced them together, they’re definitely going to find the things they had lost, for sure. Each entire chapter will be updated biweekly. There'll be three smaller parts per each chapter. Note that this story was written to be an interactive one, with polls at the end of each parts deciding on what happens next. Though, the polls for this story won't be available on Royal Road updates. (I also upload this in Arcane Odyssey forum, and it's currently the only place where I open the polls and use the poll results from.)
