《The Mad Deity’s Chaotic Trial》Prologue To The Trials

In many pantheons, there’s always one god or goddess in charge with the...less desirable parts of the world as their domain. Death, diseases, fear - this is just naming a generic couple. But a larger and more disliked domain is the unpredictable energy of the world - Chaos. A force barely comprehended by most and thought to be inevitable.

Degfodale was such a deity linked to quite a few different worlds. Origin lost to time, few encounter them directly as they remain in their private dimension, floating amongst the formless wrath that was entropy incarnate. They were merely mentioned in passing through prophets, other deities and their oracles. The worlds in the influence Degfodale had varying opinions and stories told of their origins, but most came to a general consensus; whether they took this domain by choice or by appointment from another force, they sure must be mad to some extent by now with their minds the first thing claimed by that disdainful part of nature. Another general opinion - with some forces disagreeing - is the necessity of Degfodale. Some believe they exist merely to be a bane on the existence of sentient life; to ruin what civilization strives to maintain. Whatever can’t be pinned directly to another being - mortal or divine - is usually blamed on Degfodale with others wishing they would simply disappear.

What need is there for Chaos? That is what some say...not knowing that they were heard and their words remembered.

In the Kingdom of Restarus, there became a sudden change. The air was no less breathable, the fruit no less sweet - but nonetheless, some felt a great change. A sphere was formed by long skeletal fingers - it contained a large portion of Degfodale’s power. The amount of power within it was quite substantial - it wasn’t enough to be used to mortally wound the deity, but it could certainly disrupt his control. Now it was hidden in that Kingdom, randomly chosen as is his way.

Anyone could potentially take hold of it - and if they did find it and possess it, they’d be granted every boon and bane that entails and control the object’s fate. In fact, through it, more could be in the individual’s control.

How hidden would it be and what it would take to get it would be left to chance. But Degfodale didn’t want to leave everything to chance. For whatever reason, they would give a person or two a head start, but no native of the land. They’d be from another world altogether. Degfodale felt that someone would be upset with this, but they either couldn’t remember who or didn’t care.

The mortals and demi-deities wanted to know what need or point there was for Chaos. They would possibly find out the answer now. If this was going to be a trial involving Chaos, things had to be mixed up even further beyond their norms and they were sure their inserted figure or figures would do enough of that. Chaos was as ambivalent as Order in every existence, but for this realm until the trial was done, the scales would tip ever so slightly.
