《Dragon Cross》Chapter 6: Unexpected situation

[Brand Location] was a Formation used to find specific Brands. All major Sect and Clans of the Ascended Realm put a Brand on their Arts, Artefacts and Pills. The Brands are compromised of a bundle of Formations that usually don’t do anything.
They would just have a picture and that’s it. However when a [Brand Location] of the specific Brand is used, the Brand resonates with the spell and the Brand lights up, showing whether the brand is authentic or not. The [Brand Location] that Jack used was the one that resonated with the Brands that Dragon Cross used. All the Artefacts owned by Jack and the people from the three Squads lit up, releasing a small pillar of light.
However, as the lights started forming, the faces of higher ups in the Sheng Clan turned ugly. Not only the three Squads lit up but also many of the higher ups from the Sheng Clan lit up like Christmas Trees. Seeing that, the handsome young man smiled sinisterly as he asked, “You know nothing about it huh?”
The Old Ancestor gave up all notion of refuting it any more. The other side had literally pointed out every single person that held an Artefact or Pill with the Dragon Cross Brand. To try and play dumb now would just be completely and utterly stupid. The old man threw his head back and laughed out loud, “Ha ha ha! So what if it were us? You will end up the same as they did!” The old man lowered his head as he licked his lips, “I have to thank you for delivering your-”
However before he could finish his sentence, the old man suddenly jumped back in an alarming speed. A split second later, the spot that he was standing exploded. The waves that came from the explosion grievously wounded the people standing next to him, the ones that had been unlucky enough to not get away in time. The people that were weaker, directly turned to ash.
The old man’s eyes turned as wide as carriage wheels as he felt his heart grow cold. Even though he flew back, he could still feel the immense heat coming from explosion. His line of sight suddenly moved from the explosion spot to the young lady that was standing in front of a group of three. Her face was painted with annoyance as her hand was stretched out and a few wisps of fire circles around it. The young woman said coldly, “Will you shut up already?”
After saying so, her hand changed it’s position lightly and another wisp of fire flew out from her sleeve. The flame let out a Phoenix cry as the flame changed shapes and took on the form of a Phoenix. The old man’s back was covered in cold sweat as he suddenly pulled out a fiery red spear. He twirled the spear in his hands and utilized his full cultivation base to block that one shot. After he blocked the shot, he felt his hands numb as they looked scorched. From this one hit, he realized that the young woman was also an Empyrean Emperor.

However, the thing that made him despair was that while he himself was an Early Stage Emperor, the young woman was a Late Stage Emperor. The old man furrowed his brows deeply as he tried to think of a way out. Suddenly, he felt as he was drenched in cold water when he suddenly looked towards the two other groups. They created an encirclement that would not let anyone escape. However this wasn’t what the old man was thinking about but rather, he was currently recalling how indifferent the three groups had been to his pressure. He felt his scalp numb as he came to a single conclusion: The people standing in front of the groups were also Empyrean Emperors. Not only were they Empyrean Emperors, they were of a higher stage than him.
A single Emperor could fight ten Kings or a hundred Immortals, so seeing that there were three Emperors here, he lost all hope. The brute like man and the handsome young man however, did not even make a move as they carefully observed situation on the battlefield and also the surroundings. Should something unexpected happen, they would immediately intervene. Seeing the two squads keep such vigilant watch, Jack also nodded his head. At some unknown point in them, the Mask had appeared on Jack’s face.
When the Squads started laying down the entrapping Formation, he set out a scouting perimeter. He had summoned all of his Horned Demon’s and made them encircle the city from far away. They would be the first line of defence that would try to slow down unknown guests and would let Jack know if something unexpected happened. Seeing no other way out, the Old Ancestor of the Sheng Clan fished out a worn out Seal.
Seeing the Seal, Jack’s heart skipped a beat as he immediately shouted, “GET THE HELL OUT!” As he yelled that, the three Squads immediately withdrew. As they stood outside the Formation, they looked at Jack in confusion. From their last time, they learned that when Jack meant to get out, they better get out. Jack, who had been sitting on his cloud had now stood up and in his left hand a blue double-edged sword appeared, in his right hand a white cracked sword appeared. His eyes did not leave the old man as his voice echoed out in the heads of the three Squads, “Get out of here immediately and immediately request back up from the First Generation!” Hearing this, the faces of the three Squads flickered. From Jack’s cold tone a hint of fear had emerged.
In their eyes, Jack was someone that was even willing to tangle with an Empyrean Emperor at a Core Formation without any fear but now, there was fear evident inside his voice. When they saw the two swords, their faces showed astonishment as their eyes scanned Jack’s body. When before, Jack had only worn a shirt, pants and shoes, then now he was armed with two swords and a pendant was now hanging on his waist. The pendant was the Emblem of Dragon Cross and this was one of the things that every person from Dragon Cross had. When faced with immediate danger, the pendant would release a protective screen.

Usually, the pendant could block one full force attack from an Empyrean Emperor but Hidden Dragon had more powerful pendants. Their pendants could block one full force attack of a Primadorial God, a stage just below the Third Tribulation. Of course, these pendants uses were limited, they were Life Saving Artefacts not Armour Type Artefacts. Seeing Jack fully armed, their hearts skipped a beat as they immediately did as Jack told them to and they ran. Seeing the three Squads run away with a single sentence from the person with the Mask, the Old Ancestor was bewildered.
As he scanned Jack’s body, his brow furrowed as it seemed to him that he was a simple Core Formation “brat”. However, the sense of danger he got from Jack was several times higher than the three groups of people before. This was what made him on edge as he couldn’t make heads or tails of the situation. He clutched the Seal more tightly, seemingly reluctant to use it. Seeing the old man clutch the Seal more tightly, Jack’s voice echoed out, “You just go ahead and try to use that Seal and I swear that I will annihilate your Bloodline before your reinforcements manage to arrive.”
The undisguised killing intent in the voice reassured the Old Ancestor that Jack truly would do that. However, Jack’s heart had grown cold the moment he saw the Seal. All he could do at the moment was buy enough time for the First Generation to arrive. The Seal in the old man’s hands was something that was the last thing in this entire Cosmos that Jack wanted to see.
The Seal was a “request for aid” Seal for a very strong underground organization, Blood Immortal Conclave. Blood Immortal Conclave was one of the reasons that Dragon Cross and the other Major Powers form the Ascended Realm were currently in Alliance talks. They had no idea where the Blood Immortal Conclave came from or where their headquarters was but they knew that they were extremely dangerous. No matter who or what, they could not escape their information network. They seemed to know the inside of every organization far better than the Clans or Sects themselves did. Also, they did nothing to disguise their traces when they rampantly fought against the Ascended Realm.
Suddenly, two Devils appeared next to Jack and they also seemed to understand the danger as the two of them had their eyes locked on the Seal in the old man’s hands. Even though Jack seemed like he was ready to fight for his death in a moments notice, in actuality, he was ready to run like in a split second. The moment the Seal lighted up, he would run for his dear life. The stare down lasted for a few moments, the reason the Old Ancestor was hesitating was because the three groups had run away already and there was only one person left.
That one person left was also only in Core Formation, so it wouldn’t be beneficial for him to use the Seal. However, the sense of danger Jack excluded made him feel as though he was facing someone that had passed the Second Tribulation. No one else dared to move even an inch, as they had seen how strong the young lady from before was. Seeing that she unconditionally listened to Jack’s orders and withdrew, made them feel as though something was not right. Since the Old Ancestor had not given any orders but just had a stare down with him, they did not dare to take any independent actions.
Suddenly, the old man’s face just twisted into a twisted smile. Seeing the smile, there was only one thought in Jack’s mind, “SHIT!” Without any second thought, he urged the little cloud under his feet to blast off to the horizon. However, before he could get far, he suddenly felt a very savage pressure press down on him. His advance halted to a stop immediately as he was plunged to the ground without having any means of resisting the enormous pressure weighing down on him.
As he laid there on his back, a mad laughter belonging to a woman rang out, “Kukuku, it has been a long time, Little Demon. Did you miss me?” Hearing that voice, Jack’s face twisted underneath the Mask. This voice was the last thing in the entire world he wanted to hear. All sorts of memories surfaced in his mind as Jack felt his scalp numb.
After the voice finished echoing out a young woman that seemed to be around 18 or 19 years old appeared in the air. She looked extremely beautiful as her robes lightly revealed the curves. Her pitch black hair had streaks of white mixed in as she stared at Jack with a lustful gaze. Every man present, who laid their eyes upon this young woman felt their blood gathering at their groin, even the Old Ancestor felt activity down there.
The young woman gently floated down from the sky and came to a stop just above Jack. She then dropped to the ground and just as she was about to sit down next to Jack, over fifty shadows pounced towards her. Without sparing a glance, she just swept out her hand and the shadows all disappeared.
She then sat down next to Jack and took off his Mask. She put it back to the side of his head and took his head on her lap. Jack’s face was cold as he gnashed his teeth. The woman looked Jack into his eyes as she played with his hair. She let out a sweet smile, “I missed you Little Demon. Did you miss me?”
Jack however glared daggers at her as he gnashed through his teeth, “Lust…. You are still alive you little sadistic fucking bitch?”

I look forward to exploring the bounds of the Genre with you. (First volume is rated PG-13 for comic mayhem and light profanity—these are high school students, after all. Second volume is rated PG-13 to R for some violence and similar levels of profanity. Tags may or may not contain spoilers.)

Follow Alan through his adventures, and find out for yourselves how he deals with the challenges thrown at him by a new world, while struggling with the issues brought with him from his old one. * Author’s note: A fair warning. This is the first time I’ve published anything, and basically the first time I’ve written anything more than mandatory school-stuff. The story will probably have inconsistencies, grammatical errors (not my native tongue, though that excuse is getting old), and potentially confusing (missing?) plot. I will naturally do my best to write something worth reading, but my main goal in writing this story is to have fun and explore the limits of my own creativity. My hope in publishing it here, is that I’ll reach someone who enjoy the story, and can push me forward towards writing more, as it is difficult at times to find the motivation to write just for myself. Additionally, I can’t really promise to have regular updates, as I have a full-time job that often likes to take the ‘full-time’ part literally, and a sporadic social life that occasionally surprises me (happy surprises mostly, so I shouldn’t complain). I’ll aim for once a week to start with, and take it from there. Happy reading! Cover photo by Jeff Hire (/photographer/gun4hire-58415), from https://freeimages.com/.
