《The Greatest Gene》Flying With Miren

Cain changed his focus back onto the rusty key. He looked down and analyzed it deeply, however he simply couldn’t find any other clues. He had an idea what this might be, mainly because of what Oldman Belmon had told him in the past. He said that the Snail Realm Desert might have been an inheritance left behind by a master in time, and that the gene he sealed up in the desert was what caused the disturbance in time. Based on those factors, this key may very well be the way to obtain that inheritance, problem was he only had a part of the key, and would need to find the rest.
Cain tucked away the key somewhere safe on his body, and burnt its image into his mind, he would keep an eye out for anything similar in the future. Cain suddenly realized that he had instantly been rendered broke again, he gave 36,230 to Papin, and was naturally going to spend the 100,000 so he could go to Meerik Planet, so he was down to 14,000 contribution points. Don’t mistake it, 14,000 was a lot, but compared to the 150,000 he was strutting around with just a moment ago, it felt like nothing.
He started thinking about Miren, he hadn’t visited her in a bit, and started to miss her. He felt like he understood how Papin felt, but naturally his feeling’s weren’t as extreme, but that doesn’t mean they weren’t as pure, if not purer. He wanted to surprise her with a flight on his new Flying Magma Bear mount. He headed down the core sect mountain and made his way back into the outer sect. The disciples looked up at the Flying Magma Bear with jealousy and fear, the only people strong enough to have such a beast as a pet would naturally belong in the core sect, not someone they could mess with.

Cain landed the massive beast next to the research lab, the sound of each flap of its wings, echoed across the outer sect, and reached the ears of the people inside the genetic research lab, they soon came out to see what all the fuss was about. Among the crowd, Cain spotted Miren standing there, looking at him with shock. He merely gestured his head, Miren picked up the message and hopped onto the back of the Flying Magma Bear, holding onto Cain’s waist tightly. The Flying Magma bear kicked off as the two soared into the skies under everyone's eyes.
Miren was horrified at first, holding onto Cain as tightly as she could, but she seemed to have a wild side deep inside her. She flung her arms up into the sky as they blasted through the clouds, it was like a rollercoaster time’s 100.
“Brother Cain, I never realized it was so fun to fly. I should get a flying gene the next chance I have”
“Yeah, I was surprised on my first flight too. It really is nice just letting go, as the wind blows past you, makes you feel free.”
“Brother Cain I didn’t know you had such a sensitive side”
“And I didn’t know you had such a wild side”
The two looked at each other as they smiled, feeling their connection get closer as they headed through the endless expanse above. Miren was shy at first, but had already opened up completely to Cain, and he realized the true Miren was much more outgoing and talkative then the shy one the rest of the world knew. He suddenly remembered the Meerik Planet and decided to ask about her input. Miren was extremely smart so odds are she could give him some advice.
“Sister Miren, have you ever heard of the Meerik Planet?”

“Of course, practically everyone knows about the Meerik Planet. It's one of the signatures of the Divine Perception Sect”
“What’s it like there?”
“Brother Cain, you’re speaking like you’re about to go there”
“Well truth is, I managed to get the points needed, and I decided to give it a visit”
Miren simply looked at Cain with shock, he had only been in the core sect for a few days, maybe a week at most, yet he already obtained 100,000 contribution points. The normal core disciple would take thousands of years to gain that much, and most may never go to the Meerik Planet in their lifetimes. Most people have an ‘Innate Bottleneck,’ which was like a Bottleneck set by your genes themselves, once you reach this innate bottleneck, it’s impossible to raise your strength any further. Unless you stumble across a miracle and manage to breakthrough, but miracles were miracles because of how rare they were. That’s also what most talent tests checked. They aimed to see how far away your innate bottleneck was, most people in the divine perception sect have innate bottlenecks of around tier 1-3 genetic generals, so once they reach those levels, they’ll find it practically impossible to get any stronger. Once you have reached that innate bottleneck, you’d be absolved of your disciples status and would have the choice of becoming an elder or deacon. This was why, despite the massive lifespans of genetic cultivators, most of them were merely mediocre and never achieved big things. Of course this wasn’t a rule set in stone, some people managed to break through their innate bottlenecks, Oldman Belmon being the greatest example. He was merely average as a child, but due to the multiple miracles in his life, he broke through his innate bottleneck and reached an amazing realm.
Cain and Miren continued to talk as they flew. Cain quickly knew a lot more about the Meerik Planet and what to avoid. He decided to pull out the rusty key he got from Papin so that Miren could have a look.
“Hmm, Brother Cain this key looks slightly familiar…”

8 191A Pirate's Life, The Virus, and A New World
Alexandria knew from her attendants how harsh 'outside' was and how no one but pirates survived the vast oceans. Still, she was tired of living cooped up and contained in the walled remnants of an old-world city, denied the chance to explore the new. Alexandria swore she would get out, one day, and do whatever she wanted. Regardless of what anyone said. Regardless of the virus that changed everything. The virus kills men. Genetically engineered babies are made from what remains. The virus gave Alexandria her own ability that no one could match. Of course Alexandria would need her own crew. She would find others like her—others that wanted explore the new world and were strong enough that they wouldn't end up walking the plank for it—however, three hundred years into the end of the old world, the new had already carved out settlements, people content to claim and conquer, and less inclined to explore. The virus, the settlements, their disputes: Nothing would stop Alexandria. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
8 102Force Majeure: A web novel
In the Qursan Empire, the grey walls of the city press down on its subjects. It is a highly divided society which is based on the magical strength of its citizens. While the most powerful are trained as Mages, the majority of citizens use their limited skills with essence to power the city in their assigned jobs. Jano is pretty much the lowest of the low in the Qursan Empire. A Class Ten citizen forced into transitory work after having his power restricted. When he gets the opportunity to change all of that, he takes it with both hands. Please note this is an edited version of my story ‘city of captives’. It follows a similar structure but I’ve ironed out some of the kinks. If you read that version, much of this will be similar though there are some differences. This is a slow burning progression fantasy. Please expect at least two chapters per week. I love writing this story but I do have unfortunate things to deal with like work and life outside of writing. I may be able to write and edit more than that, but it will never be less! If you enjoy this, consider following me on Instagram by just searching Crow J Williams.
