《The Greatest Gene》The Realms Of Understanding

“Alright kid, the time is perfect. Let's head in”
Cain, who was cultivating, suddenly heard Oldman Belmon say. He got up and headed into the deserts. The second he took a step in he felt the time around him distort slightly, everything was moving a bit slower than it was before. He felt extremely sluggish, as if he was trying to move through some sort of liquid. Cain eventually reached the middle part of the desert under the directions of Oldman Belmon. This was the spot where the forces of time were the strongest, making it the best place to train.
“Alright kid, close your eyes and feel the time flowing around you. You must understand that time isn’t something intangible, it exists all around us, it's just the human senses are incapable of seeing or touching it. I’m not a time gene master, so I can’t help you much in this regard. Fortunately, one of my friends from the past was a time gene master, and he taught me some of the basics which I’m now telling you.”
Cain sat down and concentrated fully, however no matter how hard he tried, he simply couldn’t reach the state Oldman Belmon talked about. He started getting frustrated but he held on.
“Kid relax, you think this state is so easy to reach simply because you know too little about it. You are still a newbie in the cultivation world so you don’t understand that their are realms of understanding for every gene, or more specifically, for the ability behind the gene. The first realm is the sight realm. For example, someone with a fire based gene would pursue the understanding of flames, once they reached the sight realm, they would be able to see all the fire energy that exists in the world. Even a genius would take years to reach the first realm, you just need a little bit of time, literally”

Oldman Belmon started snickering at his own joke, but got interrupted by Cain before he could continue chortling.
“How exactly to these realms of understanding go?”
“Well first we have sight realm which I’ve already explained. Then hearing realm, smelling realm, and finally touching realm. They are all self explanatory, however touching realm is a bit special”
“Special?”
“At that realm you can directly interact with the energy in the air, everything exists as energy, time is just a different form of energy, so it's no exception. Being able to directly interact with the energy will reap you plenty of benefits, in your case, you would be able to manipulate time on a small scale without even using your gene. This is another reason people at higher realms can easily crush those below them, because their understandings are much deeper”
“Is their a realm beyond touching?”
“Heh don't worry about that for now kid, the touching realm alone is extremely rare. Even at my prime I only reached the smelling realm, and I was a peak Genetic Emperor, only a foot away from being a Genetic Monarch. Just focus on sensing the time flow around you, being able to actually reach the seeing realm in a single sitting is unrealistic.”
Cain took Oldman Belmon’s advice and put his focus back onto cultivating. However having the insight of the realms helped clear up his thoughts. He decided to put his full focus on trying to see the time float around him. He tried visualizing the time energy around him as thousands of droplets of water, congealing together to form an ocean. Each of these droplets were just a single part of the river of time. This river had no beginning and no end, and simply ran on forever, endlessly.

Suddenly he saw something strange, a droplet formed in front of his eyes, it was only a single one but he could tell it was hiding the secrets of time within it. He reached out his hand to touch this droplet, but his fingers ran right through, it was completely intangible. He could see it but he couldn’t touch it. He focused his attention fully on this droplet, however it seemed to do nothing, it was simply floating there, minding its own business. He strained his eyes and suddenly this droplet split into 2.
These 2 pieces then split into 4, and then 8, so on and so forth. Eventually Cain’s entire view was filled with these water droplets, however strangely enough they didn’t seem to impede his sight at all, in fact he felt his vision was better than it had ever been. These droplets filled up the world around him, he looked around and noticed some areas had less of these time droplets. The time in those areas passed by more slowly. He then looked at areas where there were more time droplets, and noticed the time flow in that area was much faster. He deduced that areas with no time droplets would naturally be frozen in time.
Cain decided to use his ability, and see how exactly it affected time. Just as he was about to use his ability, he noticed the time droplets in the area had gathered around him, and formed something akin to a suit of armor around his body. The armor was thick with time droplets and he suddenly realized how his ability really worked. He was never ‘deleting’ time, instead he was simply causing the time around himself to accelerate to an extreme point, making him move so fast it was akin to teleportation. This armor only lasted 10 seconds before dissipating, making his speed drop back to normal. He had gone through a lot of enlightenment in this moment, so now it was time to see the fruits of his labor.

The Voice of the World
Jason Elric used to be an ordinary college student living in the heart of San Francisco. He had a part time job, he played online games with friends he got along moderately well with, and he earned reasonably good grades. The worst he really had to worry about in life was turning in his coursework on time and not being late to class. Now, though? Now fighting for his life and running from a horde of giant frogs that want to make him their next meal is just another Tuesday. Thanks to a summoning ritual gone terribly right, Jason has found himself trapped in a world eerily similar to the role playing games games he used to play for fun. Unfortunately for the now ex-college student, everything happening around him is terrifyingly real and if he wants to survive, he’ll have to figure out how to exploit the system for his benefit before it’s too late. The Voice of the World is the first part of what is planned to be a multi-book, Isekai LitRPG story with crafting elements, set in the fantasy world known as Verdania. This is my first time posting online for public consumption, so bear with me as I work to find a style that people like. While I may occasionally write scenes that may deal with heavy concepts, expect this story to be primarily light hearted high fantasy. There will be a lot of common fantasy tropes involved, as this story got its start as a simple practice exercise, rather than any plan to actually post it. However, it’s grown on me, so I felt it’s worth sharing after all. Thus, if you’re looking for more serious/original/unusual stories, you might want to look elsewhere. For the rest of you, feel free to leave suggestions, as well as to point out grammar and spelling mistakes; I’ll do my best to make edits to correct them. I do my own editing currently, and it’s easy to miss things when you know what’s supposed to be there, so such call outs are highly encouraged. Content TLDR: No harems, probably no romance (unless it makes sense for the story later on) (it did, eventually), definitely no sex (keeping this PG-13 or close to it), limited profanity. Does/Will contain mixes of magic and technology (think Warhammer, Final Fantasy); copious amounts of blue tables; race, gender, and sexual equality concepts; crafting sequences; and (slightly, but not overbearingly) strong protagonists. If you don’t like these things, go elsewhere instead of downvoting people for content instead of writing quality. Update Time currently varies, due to personal injury, but the goal is 1/week on Wednesdays, with a possible smaller chapter on weekends if time/health permits.
