《The Greatest Gene》Talent/Combat Exam

The spaceship landed softly onto the planet and Cain hopped off. Looking around he noticed he was in a fancy city, with anything a person would need to live a luxurious life.
“This is Outer Sect City, this is where you’ll be living if you pass the examination. The exam will be split into two parts, the talent test and the combat test. It’ll beginning soon, follow me so we can sign you up.”
Cain followed the emissary before reaching the center of the city. In the center of the city there was a podium with a massive crystal hovering above it. The crystal gave off an enchanting light and hundreds of people were gathered around it. Cain signed up before joining the crowd, the emissary had left him to his own devices. Cain nudged the person standing beside him and asked him what exactly that giant crystal was.
“You must not be from around here brother. Everyone knows about the Talent Testing Crystal, it's a dream maker and a dream breaker”
“What does it do exactly?”
“As the name suggests, it tests talent. You have to place your palms onto it and it’ll release a color, the color that comes off is an indication of your talent. The grading goes from Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet. You need at least a yellow grade to pass.”
Cain looked up and saw person after person press their palms onto the crystal. Sometimes would shine yellow and they would jump in joy, however most of the time it shined red or orange. One participate even managed to get a green grade, making the elder in charge of the examination take a double look at him.
Soon everyone was almost finished and out of the hundreds of people, only 30 or so managed to pass. Eventually it was Cain’s turn, he stepped up onto the podium and pressed his palms onto the crystal. The color started at red, however before the elder dismissed Cain, the color jumped up again. Soon the color jumped multiple times and turned to blue.

“Blue grade talent, this young man is extremely talented. Looks like this generation of recruits are quite go-”
Before the elder could finish his sentence, the color jumped twice more into violet. The elder nearly spat out his tea. Each difference in color means the person is 10x more talented then the color right behind them. In simpler words, orange was 10x as talented as red, and yellow was 10x talented as orange. Violet grade talent was 100x better than blue, which makes for a massive difference. Despite the sects long life, they had only recruited a hand full of violet grade disciples.
Before the elders shock could end however, the color jumped to white, then changed to black. Finally the crystal seemed to burn out as all the colors disappeared completely. The elder had no idea what happened, white and black were never part of the system so he was clueless as to why they appeared. He decided to just check of Cain as a violet grade talent since he didn’t know what exactly happened afterwards.
“Young man, I mean young master. No need for you to take the combat test. You already pass”
The elder instantly changed his tone and became extremely polite, he was most likely a low grade elder so sucking up to a violet grade talent would help his future extremely. Since he had the luck to stumble upon a violet grade disciple, he’d naturally hold on tight.
“I’d still like to take the combat test, if that's okay with you elder”
“Of course, of course. I’m just afraid you’d be bullying these other juniors”
The other students who passed were instantly displeased with what the elder said, but naturally they stayed quiet. Getting on the bad side of Cain, who has such great talent, wouldn’t be a wise move.

“Alright, all the students who passed, follow me. The rest of you are dismissed”
The hundreds of students who failed gloomily left Outer Sect City, they were only allowed here to partake in the test, but since they failed they had to go. Cain and the 30 or so other students followed the elder before they arrived at a building.
“The combat test will take place in our virtual arena. You will have to fight different opponents until you can’t fight any longer. How well you do depends on how many people you defeat. The opponent starts at Genetic General tier 1, then tier 2, so on and so forth”
Cain stepped into the combat room as the door closed behind him. In front of him a warrior suddenly appeared. The warrior was wearing bronze armor and seemed to come from an ancient time. He wielded a halberd and instantly struck at Cain. Cain used his ability and flashed, the warriors head suddenly flew off his body, killing him instantly.
The body turned into dust, however that dust then formed another warrior. This warrior was twice as strong as the last one, Cain still managed to deal with him easily. However when the third warrior came it was a bit more difficult. Cain realized he no longer had enough strength to pierce through these warriors bodies, and could only defeat them by slowly grinding away at their power. He managed to defeat the fifth warrior, however he did so by only a strand. The sixth warrior wasn’t something he was capable of defeating. If these warriors could use genetic abilities, Cain wouldn’t have lasted so long. When Cain exited the combat room, he noticed the elder staring at him with wide eyes.

Meek
After failing as an apprentice cooper and a town guard, Eli finds his place at the Rockbridge archives. Sure, he's the oldest 'junior scribe,' but he likes the job. And he's good at it, too. Then he completes an apparently-insignificant project, and the brutal reaction shocks him--with consequences that eventually shake the world. Eli gains powers. Rare and inhuman abilities. He progresses slowly, steadily, and not without setbacks. He changes, too. Is he a hero, a villain, a human, a monster? Depends who you ask. Meek is an epic fantasy with elements of progression. The basic magic is simple: five Paths, each with a different powerset. However, complexity arises from combinations, and the protagonist wields a magic all his own. Meek is set in the Valley, the only (as far as anyone knows) human empire that survived a Final Battle against a terrible foe. The Valley is warded against infiltration, but the enemy learned how to warp human souls, to foment discord within. However, another soul is also ... changed. Perhaps even 'warped.' And that soul is starting on a long (long, long) path that might, one day, prove that the Final Battle wasn't so final after all.
