《The Greatest Gene》Aquiring The Time Skip Gene
Advertisement
Time skip did exactly as the name implied, skipping time directly. To delete the cause and instantly create the effect. This can be compared to a person travelling from point A to point B. Normally they would have to travel the distance in between, but what if you directly deleted the time needed to travel that distance? You would instantly appear at point B without any of the moving.
One could essentially teleport, this time skip could also be applied to weapons. Cain could throw or stab his spear, and skip the time it would normally need to travel to his opponent, causing it to pierce them instantly. The effects were much more than these two, and this gene’s limit was unimaginable, but even though Cain had this idea in mind, he needed something to give him that final piece of inspiration. Seeing the event in action is the easiest way to gain enlightenment, but Cain didn’t know of any places where he could witness this.
Cain was thinking over what to do when he noticed the news channel on his hotel rooms TV. They were replaying an event from the past, and kept forwarding and rewinding the video. Cain suddenly felt inspiration when he saw this. This rewinding and fast forwarding was somewhat similar to Cain’s idea of his time skip, a video could be directly skipped through to any point, skipping the cause and going right towards the event.
Cain felt this was crazy, he had been searching for inspiration everywhere, and yet it was so obvious, sitting right in front of him. Cain spent the next few days going through video’s understanding how they worked. Cain felt like his time skip gene was becoming more and more solid the more he researched. Finally it was only a few days before Cain’s time was up.

Cain wasted no time, he made sure all the doors to his room were triple locked since he was about to go through one of the most important moments of his life. Any distraction could mess up the entire process. He sat cross legged on his bed and dived into his body, he quickly found both his slow gene and multi-instant stop gene, hovering inside him. They were like emeralds sparkling in the deep blue sea, standing out among the crowd. Cain exerted his influence over them as they slowly floated towards one another, as they got closer, they tried to repel one another.
However their struggle was meaningless in front of Cain, he finished the final shove and watched as these two genes fused together. They spun around on another, as if trying to fight for dominance. Cain wasn’t having any of that however, and quickly calmed them down, he started thinking about everything he’s learned over these last few months. The thoughts started flowing into the genes, feeding them, causing the genes to start struggling less and less. Eventually they stopped fighting completely and fused together. The fusion was like a sun right before collapse, it let off a tremendous amount of light and blinded Cain’s eyes for a moment.
When Cain opened his eyes again, he saw a new gene floating in space, this gene was pristine as jade and white as snow. Cain opened his stat panel to see what exactly happened.
Strength: 100
Speed: 150
Defense: 100
Genes:[Time Skip : Level - 1/50]
Time Skip Gene: Skips time
Power - 100
Potential - 50
A tier 150 class 2 gene, it was truly the cream of the crop, and that wasn’t even including its ability. Cain wanted to test this out immediately, standing up, he imagined himself moving from one point to another, suddenly Cain appeared at that location directly. Cain kept testing this ability before realizing he could only skip a maximum of 10 seconds at his current level. With Cain’s current maximum speed, he could travel at around 1000 meters a second. Using his ability he could travel 10,000 meters at a time, essentially making him 10x faster.

Cain tossed his spear forwardly weakly, he didn’t want to destroy the room and just wanted to test the effects, without further ado he used his ability on the flying spear, it directly disappeared before reappearing where it would have been 10 seconds later. Cain started flashing around the room like a phantom.
Cain changed his tactics and tried using his ability in a more practical way, he grabbed a note of paper and imagined himself writing something on it. The note which was initially blank suddenly had a few words appear on it, exactly the words cain had thought of. Naturally this ability wasn’t infallible. While it let him travel 10x as fast, it also used up his energy 10x as fast, so he couldn’t use it too much or he would burn out. Cain spent the next few hours testing out his new ability, suddenly his alarm went off and he realized it was already 10am, the deadline was today.
Cain rushed out of the hotel room, using his ability he instantly appeared outside of the building. Using a teleportation pod, he gave the guard his school ID, letting him directly teleport to the institution. When he reappeared he was standing in front of the school that he had left a year ago.
“Hey look over there, doesn’t that student look somewhat familiar?”
“Yeah he does, I just have no idea who he reminds me of”
“He kind of reminds me of senior brother Cain, I wish he were here right now. That Hotch person has been bullying our school ever since he left, and the year 2 combat exam is about to start. Without senior brother Cain, the only thing we can do is lie down and take the humiliation”
“Yeah, if senior brother were here, this wouldn’t be a problem at all…”

Ætla Verǫld
AV Online was just a flash in the pan—a harsh, experimental land which lost most of its players in mere weeks. Only the dedicated few remained, carving out their destinies in corners of the vast abandoned world. Lily Quinn wasn't one of them. With a career worth millions in the esports world, she didn't have time for a game like Avo—but when an exclusive beta test for the new version showed up on her doorstep, she couldn't say no… as much as she wanted to. Literally hooked into the simulation, Lily reluctantly entered a world beyond anything she'd ever dreamed of. Accompanied by seven other beta testers desperate to save their beloved game, Lily dives into a vibrant, beautiful world, where mystery and adventure waits around every corner. Despite her reservations, Lily finds a joyful escape in Avo, shattering her cold, hollow reality. It was just a game though… until the group discovered they couldn't log out. Trapped in a game with no rules, and surrounded by cutthroat players eager to kill for a quick windfall, Lily and her ragged band have no choice but to fight their way out, or die in a game that has turned all too real. Hi there! I'm setting off on yet another adventure, come join me :3 Unusually for me, there's only one perspective this time, and it's quite a bit more action-oriented than I usually write. Don't worry, though: everything's still as character-driven as always, and I never get tired of writing dialogue. Just to acknowledge it up front: this story is heavily inspired by EVE Online and the many stories generated by that world. However, since this is a fantasy setting, not sci-fi, don't expect any real parallels. Chapter publish rate for this one will be whenever I write them, as with Epilogue. I don't expect to move as fast here though, since it's not for NaNo. The plan is chapters somewhere in the 4k-5k range, and hopefully frequently. The Last Science takes priority as always though. Special thanks to Reaver and Ace Arriande for pushing me to get this going, and to all my fellow writers whom I've stolen from been inspired by. You're all wonderful people and I love you Quick reminder: Patrons get to read ahead of what's published! Also, try my other works: The Last Science — A Tale of Modern Magic Epilogue — A Post-Fantasy Psychodrama What are you still doing on the synopsis? Get to reading!
