“Wow, I thought senior brother Cain was only strong, I didn't know he was so smart too”
“Of course, I don’t think theres anything senior brother Cain can’t accomplish”
Cain headed back to his dorm, when he opened the door, he was greeted with a nice surprise, a gene stimulating elixir that he had been promised in the past. He had forgotten about it since it was a long time ago that the headmaster made him this deal in the first place, but it was like coal in the winter, coming at a perfect time.
Cain felt like he had been stuck at a bottleneck for a long while, and this was a good chance to breakthrough in one go. He wasted no time before chugging down the elixir, the energy filled his body and warmth spread through him, he was already used to this experience so it was no longer as amazing as it used to be.
Strength: 8.5
Speed: 14.8
Defense: 8.5
Genes: Inner Vision : Level - 1, Slow : Level - 7
He managed to breakthrough twice in a single go. His current progress was mind blowing, already reaching the limit of his current gene. He felt that his current strength could already support a second gene, but he still didn’t have a proper one to fuse with. He hadn’t progressed much in terms of the incomplete fast gene formula, so he may have to pick something else if he’s left with no choice.
Cain decided to head back to the Golden Goose Material Store, and try to find a new gene that might be suited for him. Geniuses didn’t have to think this way since their bodies were filled with dormant genes waiting to be awakened, and they just had to choose which would be best. Cain was different however, it took him multiple years just to find his first gene to awaken, it would take him even longer to find another, and by the time he did he would be left far behind.

The genes in a human body were all at a supreme grade by nature, that's exactly what supreme grade meant, to bring a gene back to its roots and make it akin to one from the human body. Some geniuses were not satisfied with this however, and would spend years trying to find legendary genes, that way their future potential would be endless, but only the geniuses at the top of the world could afford to train like this.
Cain headed into the Golden Goose Material Store and looked around. It may seem like the fast gene formula was a complete waste of 100,000 credits, but it gave Cain a lot of inspiration and helped him better figure out what his future path would look like, so he didn’t consider it a complete loss. Cain wasn’t the type to fret over past mistakes, what's done is done, and now the only thing left for him is to head forward.
Cain couldn’t find any decent formulas so he decided to enter the VR trading room, here people could directly trade formulas or genes they have. He selected the formula tab before scrolling through the long list of options. He had been saving up these past few months from all the pills he sold, he even sold the lightning flash step for 70,000 credits. He finally saw a formula that interested him ‘instant stop gene formula : tier 7,’ this was another time based gene, but this one stopped time for a single instance. For Cain this would be a good gene to potentially fuse with, however it seemed pretty unpopular, it was weak and you couldn’t do much in an instant against an opponent of the same level, on top of that it had a rather long cooldown.
All these factors made it an unpopular gene that people rarely got, but it was a good match for Cain. He quickly contacted the seller and managed to buy the formula for 80,000 credits. After purchasing the formula he looked through it, he realized it had a lot in common with the incomplete fast gene formula he got in the past.

He quickly headed back to his research lab and did some experiments. This was a tier 7 gene which was a bit above his level, however he decided to try a few attempts anyways. First he processed, then combined, then fused, but he’d fail repeatedly. Eventually he managed to create a low quality gene pill, but he was far from satisfied.
Single Instance Gene
Power - 2.3
Potential - 4
These stats were extremely subpar compared to his slow gene which was tier 14, he wanted a gene at around the same level, since that would further increase their fusion compatibility. Luckily it was currently summer break so the students had time off before they started year two, so Cain had plenty of time to work on his attempts.
Failure after failure, without noticing Cain had grown a full beard, he looked like a crazy old man, but his eyes were still sharp and determined. Each attempt would make him a little bit better, eventually he hit mid quality after a few days. It was good but still far from his expectations. Cain’s beard now reached his waist and was as long as his hair, the wall of his room was filled with paper slips with different ideas written on them, it was a total mess.
Cain only now realized that having classes somewhat saved him. Being forced to go to class every once in a while made it so he never had a chance to be completely left to himself. In the past he’d spend all his summers cooped up in his room trying to awaken his gene, now it was the same problem but different circumstances. He was obsessed with making gene pills, each small improvement filled him with the energy to keep going. George was worried for Cain, he hadn’t seen him for days, and decided to check on him. He knocked on Cain’s door but there was no response so he slowly opened the door. The room was completely dark, the floor was filled with scrunched up pieces of paper, George felt a chill go up his spine looking at the scene in front of him. Suddenly the door slammed shut and George let out a scream like a little girl.

The Complete Alchemyst book 1
You've heard of superheroes, seen them flying across the sky, destroying great swaths of cities and ending countless innocent lives in order to defeat great evils and world-spanning threats and sell lots of sponsorships and merchandising opportunities. This is a story about the guy that is not those heroes. A supervillain in a world where making the right friends and political contacts is what separates the good guys from the bad. The Alchemyst is a story about a normal guy in a crazy world that spends his time trying to follow his dreams and conscience, working on new potions, thinking about girls, and lifting heavy shit, while trying to stay under the radar of the superheroes, supervillains, and governments that want what he can do. And occasionally turning them into makeshift melee weapons. If you enjoy The Boys, the Aberrant roleplaying game, Mystery Men, Trashy romances, Arnold Schwarzenegger movies, or SAW you may enjoy this book. Please note that this book has extremely graphic and sometimes gross fight scenes, heroes as villains, villains as heroes, opinionated and often politically incorrect characters, some graphic sex scenes, dad jokes, dirty jokes, realistic depictions of romance and flirting, bondage and dominance themes, and more than a few cuss words when they are really appropriate. This is NOT a superhero genre deconstruction. Many heroes truly are heroes, and they don't all need to be destroyed to make a good story, but it does look into the dark side of superpowers and the unreasonable and often contradictory demands placed on exceptional people.

Shift (Ben 10+DCU Fanfiction)
Omnitrix+ DCU, what's not to like? The main character will not be Ben Tennyson, rather someone from our world who gains the Omnitrix Hello! This fanfiction Shift is what I wanted to do for an homage to what I thought were underrated pieces of media, Ben 10 and some DCU characters. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t add context to two of the major works that inspired Shift, Dial, and A Practical Guide to Evil. Dial is another ben 10 fanfiction, however that story takes place in the MCU, and with an adult that is already a grown-up at the beginning of the story. Dial, by my own accounts, is more superficially Like shift, even though the Omnitrix is a central device in both. My protagonist starts out around 18 years old, so is less serious and can build relationships with some of the junior justice league members, and then later on in the story meet the Justice League officially. The tone will be more light-hearted at the beginning of the story as teenagers are known to use sarcasm and jokes at each other’s expense. Furthermore, in Dial, the protagonist has a well-developed knowledge of the MCU which he uses to have knowledge on events and characters, that the character in Shift will not have. While the MC will have some knowledge of people's abilities, lesser-known characters and people's real identities will be not included as much, but the MC of Shift will have some knowledge. APGTE's influence is deeper than Dials'. The epigraphs at the beginning of every chapter are an example of that, a place for light-hearted jokes and worldbuilding that's not pure exposition, but I also want to incorporate narrative stories to Shift (heroes win more than lose, providence, etc) on a lighthearted scale. While the heroes of Shift will have to work to win against villains, the MC of Shift will be allowed limited precognition, through narratives tropes and archetypes as a trade-off of less knowledge of the DCU. For example, a villain a hero faces might monologue, but the MC will not instinctively know how to counter every villain they encounter. I also wanted to bring in more realism than usual superhero stories, ie: the MC cannot just walk and have a meeting with Batman or Superman, he would have to “work his way up” in terms of credibility and whatnot. The Aliens that show up in Shift I tried to make different than the ones in Dial, just to share the love for lesser-known characters. And to make it fairer for the villains of the DCU, the main character will not wantonly use if gain at all an Alien X or a ben 10 form of Kryptonians, just so the characters have to work a little bit for victory. I urge anyone reading to consider checking out both APGTE and Dial as they are both amazing works, and I hope you enjoy them. The beginning of how the MC enters the DCU will not be as important as him actually existing in that universe, so that is why a ton of time is not spent on that part of the story. Chapters will be around 2.5 thousand words and come out around every weekday.
