《The Greatest Gene》Bless You

Cain was completely satisfied with this shopping experience, he ended up earning a lot more than he initially expected. He soon met back up with George and Ela. George was wearing a goofy suit that seemed a size too small and Ela was wearing a nice elegant dress.
“What, are you two planning on getting married so soon?”
Cain joked, but George instantly got a blush on his face looking like a young maiden in love, it sent creeps up Cain’s spine. The group got something to eat before calling it a day, Cain headed back to his dorm room as fast as he could, he was excited about this fast gene formula since it would be a big help to him in the future. It was only 1 small page, but a part of it had been ripped off, the page itself was somewhat old and battered, and the words were mostly blurry.
Cain managed to get through it however and realized why it was incomplete, it all the side ingredients, but the most essential part, the core ingredient, was missing. He felt like he got scammed, the core ingredient was essentially 80% of the process, so even though he was only missing a single thing, in reality this formula was practically useless given his current skill. Deducing the main ingredient would take time, he decided to toss it aside for the meanwhile and focus on his other rewards.
First was the flash step gene, it let the user quickly traverse a small distance instantly, akin to teleportation. However, it was only a tier 3 gene so its potential was extremely limited, no one would choose this gene unless they had no talent and only wanted it as a protection method, it was quite effective in that regard, making it one of the most popular tier 3 genes. The butterfly gene granted temporary flight, humans had been dreaming about flight since day one, so naturally this gene that grants it is extremely famous among the commoners.

Cain had bought some plenty of material so he got right into the creation process. First he attempted the flash step gene, after failing 3 times, he succeeded and made a low grade pill.
Flash Step Gene
Power - 1.3
Potential - 1
It was significantly better than the sharp nail gene and could probably sell for around 6,900 credits. Researchers came up with a good way to calculate a genes price based on a formula. Power + Potential x 3000, but of course this wasn’t always the case, such as with legendary quality genes, in that case the price might rocket hundreds or even thousands of times.
Cain already had experience with the sharp nail gene and so he was much more successful this time around. He felt that by practicing with a different gene formula, he was learning at a much better rate. In the past there were flaws he couldn’t fix no matter what, but when working on a new gene, he got more inspiration and started seeing where he went wrong in the past.
Cain spent the whole night working on different formulas. He was starting to understand how profound genes are, when he fixes one flaw he finds another that is more complicated, and this cycle keeps repeating, but as he fixes these flaws his skill and the quality of the genes keep raising. He was also constantly circulating the thousand thought technique, and had already reached the ten thought realm, making his calculation speed much faster than before.
Cain wanted to make a supreme grade hawk eye gene, even though the quest only requested a mid grade one, he wanted to challenge his own limits. His pill storage was almost filled by the end of the night, there were pills of all shapes and qualities, even though he spent the whole night making pills, he only made about 10 pills in total, most of his time was spent thinking over where he went wrong and trying to find a solution.

During one concoction he accidentally sneezed during the fusion process, however strangely enough the pill didn’t burn into nothing, in fact it fused in a single instance and let off a golden light. Cain picked up the pill slowly, as if it was the most precious treasure in the world, he had no idea what he did, but from the looks of it this pill was extremely special. He quickly used the inner vision gene to see what exactly happened to it
Lightning Flash Step
Power - 3
Potential - 2
Cain instantly knew what this was, a legendary gene, and he made it during a sneeze. This is why Genetic Researchers always said that luck is also part of a person's skill. This gene was far better than its supreme counterpart, one should know a gene’s tier is based on its total stats at the supreme grade, hence flash step being a tier 3 gene means at supreme grade its stats reach a total of 3. In the case of flash step that would be 2 power and 1 potential. However the current gene pill cain was holding was a tier 5 pill, which 3 power and 2 potential. This pill could sell for around 15,000 credits, and that isn’t even taken into consideration the fact that it's a legendary quality pill, meaning it has an extra ability.
Its true price comes up to about 50,000 credit, maybe even 100,000 if a collector buys it. Cain’s hands were shaking as he held this pill. He thought that even if he did ever make a legendary grade pill in his lifetime, it would have definitely been a long time into the future, but here he was with one right now.
Cain quickly stored it away and decided to sell it at auction in the future, he had no use for it but it would definitely earn him a windfall. He kept trying to recall what exactly he did different during this process, but other then the sneeze nothing happened. Even so, he still felt like his gene creation abilities improved a lot. It was as if he had gained enlightenment from creating that legendary grade pill, and now the flaws he struggled with in the past were no longer a hindrance.

Cycles of Ruin
Civilizations rise and fall. Kith build them up and monsters, led by powerful dungeon keepers, bring them to ruin. For three thousand years the cycle has been maintained by the Guild of Chaos and its endless hordes of minions who—in absence of their long lost creators—have taken it upon themselves to keep the realms of the universe in balance. The Guild has grown efficient at this task, but some among its ranks have begun to ponder the utility of a universe that has been robbed of the very possibility of change. Basil von Doom is one such dungeon keeper working for the Guild, leading an army of loyal minions from one conquest to the next; burning civilizations and sifting through the ruins in search of forbidden knowledge that the races of kith were never meant to possess. But having spent more than half a century in pursuit of glory and fame—trying to live up to the legacy of his father—Basil has grown indifferent towards his work. Desperate for a worthy challenge, but bound by his duties as a dungeon keeper, he has turned his mind towards uncovering the ultimate fate of the previous master of his house and the secrets that were buried with him. Now the young Master of House Doom must balance his growing interest in pursuing the trail of his father with the responsibilities that come with running a dungeon in service to the Guild of Chaos. To remain in good standing with the Guild, Basil has even accepted the task of mentoring an apprentice dungeon keeper, a young succubus named Elnora. It is at the tail end of her apprenticeship that the story begins; with a civilization poised to fall—its greatest heroes gathering for one last assault on the heart of darkness—and Basil striking up a conversation with his apprentice that will set into motion the unraveling of the universe. ***This is a rewrite and continuation of my story that was first posted on RoyalRoad a few years ago.
