《The Greatest Gene》Mammoth Gene

“Saxo Moloros - Light Dark College: Little is known about this character other than his strength and talent. He was taken as a student of one of the elders of the college the instant he joined, further showcasing his ability”
Cain got a quick overview of them all before tossing the pamphlet aside, his name didn’t even show up on the list, but Cain thought it was better that way, since his skills would be unknown giving him a greater advantage. Soon the competitors were called up, they made the strongest students fight the weakest just to thin the numbers and leave the best for last. The first few fights finished quickly, and Cain easily got through to the next round
Eventually only the top 8 were left, Cain was lucky enough to get a pass for his second fight, so he avoided a fight. His next opponent wouldn’t be so simple however, Hotch King, seemed the people in charge of this event considered Cain a nobody and wanted to get rid of his with this fight.
Cain hopped onto the arena under the cheers of George and the other students, but their sound was silenced under the overwhelming amount of support in Hotch’s favour. Cain looked at this young man across him, shockingly he was even larger than George, he was about 1.5 Cain’s size, making Cain look like a dwarf.
“Kid, I don’t want to hurt you for no reason, so forfeit now and let's not waste anyone's time”
“Haven’t you heard of the saying ‘the bigger they are, the harder they fall’?”
Hotch seemed to not like that saying since he attacked the instant Cain was done talking. He had no weapons but his fists were like cannonballs as they headed towards Cain, using his footwork however he could easily dodge these hits.

“Who is that person fighting Hotch?”
“Probably a nobody, though I’m surprised he’s lasted this long under those fists. Hotch defeated all his other opponents with a single punch so this kid can be proud of himself”
Cain’s hearing was phenomenal, so naturally he could hear all this trash talking going on about him, seems like the crowd didn’t hold him in much favor. However as the battle went on, the crowd started changing their opinions, Hotch seemed infuriated that the battle was still going on so he eventually activated his gene. He quickly turned into a massive mammoth under the astonished gaze of the crowd, luckily the arena was big enough or else he might end up crushing the spectators.
He swung his trunk towards Cain, but missed by an inch, the trunk smashed into the arena and set chunks of rock flying everywhere, the shield around the arena protected the viewers so they didn’t have to worry about the mayhem going on in front of them. Cain eventually couldn’t keep up anymore, so he decided to start using his ability. The trunk that was once going extremely fast, slowed down to 7/10th its original speed, making it far easier to dodge. Cain realized that Hotch’s defense was too strong, and his spear wasn’t capable of getting through the thick skin. However, just as he thought he may not be able to win, he had a thought, what if he applied slow directly on his opponents vision. It may slow down their reaction time, giving Cain a good chance to strike.
He decided to waste no time and went straight to doing it. Hotch’s pupils that were once sharp seemed to become a bit dull, under everyone's confused eyes, he started slowing down to about half his previous speed. However in Hotch’s view, it was Cain who suddenly became so much faster that he couldn’t keep up with his movement anymore. Cain ran up Hotch's trunk and landed on his head, he used slow spear and slowly swung down at Hotch’s skull.

Everyone spectating was extremely confused, the battle that was once intense seemed to slow down quite a bit, but since most of these were regular people, Cain and Hotch were still moving at incredible speeds. Eventually the slow spear landed on Hotch’s head and a massive boom echoed across the arena, the blow wasn’t enough to break through Hotch’s skull, but the vibrations knocked him unconscious. His legs went limp as his giant body smashed into the arena sending dust and stones flying everywhere.
Everyone was shocked, especially the spectators from the Myriad Beast Form College, since they knew first hand how strong Hotch was, and yet he still managed to get defeated. Suddenly the silence turned into overwhelming applause, the students that followed Cain here had red faces as if they were drunk from excitement, they would have rushed out and hugged Cain had Remy not stopped them.
“Looks like there's a dark horse this year, he actually managed to defeat Hotch, what a shock”
“Yeah, but these kinds of shocks are what I come here for. Would be to boring if the same type of people won each year”
“Mhm, I’m just wondering who that person was, their name didn’t seem to show up on the competitor pamphlet”
The last four were quickly announced, it was Cain, Rose Faere, Saxo Maloros, and Tane Kraus, a student from the Iron Blood College. The first fight was Rose vs Saxo, so Cain had a good chance to spectate and learn. Roses ability suppressed Saxo’s since he emphasized on darkness, however her fire was a natural light, which weakened his own ability. Eventually Rose won due to her advantage and Saxo quickly disappeared into the darkness. Cain had done a little research on Tane in the meanwhile, and found out he had the iron skin gene, which was self explanatory. Cain realized that he was at a disadvantage against people who specialized in defense, since his slow gene couldn’t affect their durability whatsoever, fortunately Tane’s defense was nothing compared to Hotch’s

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)

Changement : Version Face [French]
Notice: This story is in French, not in english, mainly because of my poor english. I may translate it later if I get better, and hopefully I will. - Author's note: this story is a concept. During the first chapter, the main character is faced with a major decision, which will change his life forever, and, not knowing what to do, he decide to play heads or tails, and let fate choose for him. And so there will be two versions of this story, one for each of the result, and their consequences for the main character, as well as all those around him. Here, he got heads.
