His Past
Everything is still dark ……..
Who was that person? She was smiling …… and my body ….it feels so heavy..
I remember ….. I was at the centre of …..something….and…
My name…..What was my name again?......
---- After few days -------
Yeah …..
I think I remember it all now. Who I was and What happened at the end.
I remember where I was born, it was a planet called Xyla-A42-T though its residents referred to it as Lush Haven. It was the perfect settlement planet for various races from different galaxies all over the universe.
I remember my parents, but I can’t quite remember their names. I cared deeply for them so why couldn’t I remember them?
My Father was a mixed race and my mother was a human. Even though he was a mixed race its wasn’t like he had much different characteristics of a human other than having a much more clear memory and aging didn’t affect his body like a normal human.
My parents ….they cared a lot for me but they had to send me off at the age of ten to another settlement on an another planet in a different galaxy because there was a war occurring on the neighboring planets and they had only enough funds to only ensure my safety. Later in my life I found out they died as the planet had been destroyed during the war, the weaponry during that time belonged to the conquest hungry Legion.
After separating from them, I mostly did odd jobs from a miner to a hunter and also as a information broker. I didn’t have any talent in combat or it was so what I had thought. Things changed after a few years when I was 25 and was trapped into a war between two rising military galactic nations. It was here I found certain artifacts through my connections. These artifacts were from civilizations which had perished and they offered my various knowledge on combat, survival and even various technologies which most never would think existed.

After years of fighting and wearing down my body I had a thought, it was something really strange and something I wouldn’t even consider but after living my whole life I questioned.
“Why?”
Why was this never ending war between so many nations which were always standing for peace and for evolution happen? What did we gain at the end? Why didn’t it stop?
These were questions which haunted me day and night. I was already 75 years old then and I always questioned how I was still alive. I never really had time to fall in love, create a family and retire, but after so many years of suffering through these dark nights I finally decided.
I was motivated to learn, to understand why this was happening and thought I would some form of answer at the end of my life. And 30 years later I found out something ……
It was shocking …..All these wars had started by very small disputes, through people who weren’t recorded in history. Each and every one of them was like a tragedy, as though someone intended it to be that way.
When I realized this , I was already nearing my deathbed…….
It was at this point, I made a final decision to work in the shadows and fight any battles which would lead to such pointless wars. I decided to continue living………even through a cloned body.
It took a millennium, I stopped counting my mental age and I didn’t question whether it was my own consciousness in this body. But since the previous bodies died without any reason I didn’t ponder on it and simply followed my mission.
It was during my tenth clone incarnation I understood that everything was coming to an end and it couldn’t be stopped. It was then when I found a certain artifact, it was a data crystal. But the reason I thought it was an artifact even though data crystals weren’t a rare case during that time was because the one I found dated many years- no eons back when data crystals were even first started and the information it had was about the God who had been alive.

This God was described as an entity who was born from the egg which created this universe. I didn’t understand it much and hardly even believed it. It also described how he was going to fall when the end would begin. At the end it had instructions that in case he should ever try to escape his demise that one would have to stop him or otherwise bring doom to even the next cycle.
When I read further into it , the data crystal had information about the end on how supernovas would begin in various galaxies and how the universe would begin to shrink. I confirmed that whatever it said was true after seeing the research of scientists who had experimented it.
As I had reached a dead end on preventing the wars between nations, the data crystal also spoke of how it would happen during the nearing end. I couldn’t doubt it…..it was beyond what would one call a coincidence.
So I followed the instructions still not thinking this God would exist, trying to go to the planet which was very near to its consumption from the dark matter. I was surprised when the portal had appeared and I jumped before it closed as I knew if I didn’t then …I wouldn’t survive this planet’s death.
I confirmed it…..the place which was transported to….all similar to the information in the data crystal. And when I searched the whole place , I found him sitting on the throne with a surprised look on his face.
He started speaking about who I was, but he couldn’t understand why someone who had died was here. Then I asked him a simple question, “Are you running away?”.
He was completely puzzled and was staring at me like he didn’t understand what I spoke. He almost raised from his throne still staring , at this point I got cautious and took a battle stance. He laughed and said “ really ……I don’t get it , but how did you know? ……It doesn’t matter, even if you’re a reaper here to kill me I won’t stop” and after that the battle started.
After a long time, after exhausting everything …all the knowledge I had …all my experience in combat….I finally defeated him.
He then had a blank face, showing he had given up and after a few words he disintegrated. What I saw at that moment was him becoming part of this dying universe after giving me the power which kept him alive in this place.
Finally, my long life ended and there was nothing but strife albeit a few moments of happiness from my comrades who were already dead at this point. I didn’t have any motivation anymore because of long life and I was bored with living this way.
So why? Why am I feeling these strange emotions now? I feel like I’m at peace but I feel like getting back up and finding something new to do.
I slowly opened my eyes, it was bright and I found out I was facing the ceiling.

I wrote this when I was 16/17 (which was many years ago now!) on a really old PC I called Phylis. I remember having to print it out on an old ribbon printer to submit it to publishers - this was back before esubs were the norm! It never got picked up and I ended up self publishing it. I hope you enjoy.
