《Eoum: The Tenth Summon》CHAPTER 7

I got up from the bed with a speed that is way out of my expectation. Well that’s not the issue now. Right now I forgot a very crucial point that dictates individualism. Why can’t I remember my name? That is strange. I searched through my countless memories but all of them, for some reason, the name when I was called upon only came out muted in every memory. It felt like my name had been erased. Hell, I can’t even remember my age when i checked! “Excuse me, are you alright?” “……” Erganisu was looking at me with a concerned expression. That was kind of reassuring but right now I am panicking inside because my name no longer exists in my memories. How can this be?!! Wait… I try to recall a cetain memory that is considered a dark history of me during my childhood. Bzzt. A sharp pain runs through my body as I did that. I don’t know why but I have the sensation that those memories were being deleted one by one. Sweats poured down on my foreheads and my back was also starting to sweat. What do I do!!? Unconsciously I had gripped the bedsheet hard with both of my hands. !!! The pills!! Throughout life, I had sometimes relied on my gut feeling and right now, this gut feeling are telling me to down that ‘Specialization’ pill on my throat. I released both of the pills from my grip and grabbed the ‘Specialization’ pill and shoved it inside my mouth. This pill is quite large!! Crap, I need water!! Seeing me choking, Erganisu quickly took his sling bag and ran towards me. Inside the sling bag, he took out a canteen bottle and handed to me. I quickly snatched the bottle and chugged down the water. I can feel the water flowing down with the pill. Afterward, I fell on my back and lay on the bed while heaving audibly. Erganisu stood on the side and watched me cautiously. “Are you alright now? That was the ‘Specialization pill’. You didn’t take it at the Inheritors hall?” “…… I didn’t feel any physical pain so I decided to hold off but I just realized it… I lost some of my memories. I don’t know my name.” And it stopped. The sensation that my memories were thrown into a bottomless pit of no return had stopped. A gut feeling had saved me. I don’t know why but it seems that instead of physical pain, I lost memories. I’m not sure which memories but it’s like missing frames of a movie as I only remember the mundane and ordinary passing of my life. From that, I know it was memories of significant value. The many ones that shaped this one who was called- ah right I forgot. Still I feel the same but I do felt a sense of loss. “You can’t remember your name?” “Yeah, they say you feel physical pain but I think I got memory or rather some certain losses.” “So you took the pill and…?” “Yeah, it stopped but my name isn’t coming back and some other memories which I don’t know which one but I think they were important.” Erganisu had a disbelief look but he didn’t seem to be incredulous about it. He is quite mindful in his action and words as far as I observed. "You should report to the guards about this. Perhaps they can shed some light on this.” I’ll do that but right now a huge wave of fatigue had flooded my body and just like being jolted, the sensation of an immense pain was also overwhelming me and a pandemonium of mindstorms is currently swirling in my head. I am tired and now i feel an unimaginable pain in a single stroke like its a compensation of the pain that i should felt. Thus, I closed my eyes and… --

How faint my breathing was. I felt the air breezing above my body and a cloying smell was wafting through the air. I opened my eyes and took some time to adjust to the darkness. I felt asleep in an instant and I was lying on the bed without getting in the blanket. After a few seconds, I began to see the countless leafs above me. I’m surprised that there were no leafs falling on or near me and what is with this smell? It’s alluring but at the same time it was repulsive. I sniffed several times but I can’t seem to get a hang of this. It seems to have permeated the surrounding. I got up with just my upper body and look around after I fully adjusted my vision. Erganisu was lying on his bed, sleeping peacefully without any making noises. Wow. It’s hard to tell without the sun or if there is any, is out right now because there’s no window. “If only there were windows…” As soon as I muttered windows, there was a sound of something sliding on my left. The surprised me turned my head towards that direction. A clear, pristine, non-opaque glass frame was between me and the outside world. The size of the glass was about one fourth of the wall of my side. Unfortunately, It wasn’t picturesque as I imagined with majority of the view was hindered by the wall but I could see the night sky and rays of light were shooting from the horizon with the moons hovering above in the background. I wanted to turn on the lights but how do I do that? As I was putting my right hand on my chin in contemplation, I pondered on those floating orbs of light last night… Oh! Let’s try! “Lights on.” Slowly, like how the stars appears in the night sky as time passes by, the floating orbs of light flickered and dozens of them were lit up. It felt like the sun had shed its light into the room. I got up and sat beside my bed. I had slept. If this was a VR, then it is too realistic. I thought if I had slept, I would have waked up into the real world but I’m woke up to this world. Maybe this is not what I had expected. Another thing that made me rethinks that this is actually a real other world summoning was the fact that I had memory losses. It’s a serious flaw for a VR to cause a memory losses but I don’t think they can miss or let that sort of blunder without any intention. In any way, I come to term that this is real deal. I was transported into another world as ludicrous as it might sound. Sigh… I shut my eyes and scoured my mind. I was trying to find out to what extend the damage had caused. The oldest and most vivid memory I had was when I was 13. There were a lot gaps on my childhood and more importantly, things pertaining to my identity as an individual. I felt helpless as I felt the perceived emptiness. I don’t know how long I had sat but by the time I came by, the light ray from the window was already entering, further brightening the room. Erganisu got up instantly with an almost practiced and rigid movement. He looks at me with what I thought to be an indifferent expression. “Good morning, Ruigne.” He said it in a monotony. Ruigne? With the same movement, he got out from his bed and went to his table. He then took a brown robe that was on that table and carried it with him. He was walking towards me. “What was that name?” “…… ’Ruigne’ in my world is for those who wished to not use their real name or those who have lost their name due to memory loss or other reason.” So it’s like the ‘John Doe’ of my world. I could go by that name for now. He proffered the robe to me. “I adjusted the size of this robe to fit a human. I’m not sure whether it is correct. Please try it.” I guess that was what he was sewing last night. Man, he is too kind and generous. I nodded my thanks to him and look at the robe. It was kind of woolly and thick but I think that was okay. It was definitely better than what I am wearing right now. As I was trying the robe, there was a dull knocks on the door. I remembered how thick the door was. I wonder how strong you have to be just to make that knock. Erganisu took the key stone in his pocket and pointed the side where the symbol was at the door and he chanted. The door split like yesterday. Outside, only one guard was standing. “I’m to inform that there will be gathering on the field near the portal entrance after the sun is fully visible.” He bowed deeply and walked away. Looking at my window, the sun was barely visible yet. So we still have some time left. “Is there somewhere we can wash ourselves?” Erganisu, after closing the door, walked towards behind of the tree. “There’s a room here. I think it serve as a cleansing room.” I assumed he meant bathroom. I didn’t realize this room as I erroneously thought that this was a single room. There was a simple wooden on each side. I opened the door on my side and inside was a room with ceramic tiles with a bath tub that was built in beside the wall and shower head that looked particularly weird. There were several plug holes, soaps near the tub and the shower and a toilet of sort. Looking at the plug holes, is there a plumbing system in this world? I’m kind glad though that the bathroom was almost similar to my world. With this, I have the luxury of having a modern experience of my world! But first thing first… “You take the ‘cleansing’ first.” Erganisu quickly said that and left the room. Okay then. Thankfully, there were two towels that were set on the table near the door. I took one and proceed to undress myself. Should I bath or should I shower? What a first another world problem. …… After much thinking, shower it is!! I stepped myself upon the shower head and thinking that like most of the ‘application’ in this house I think I only need to say… "Water on!” Nothing happened. “Water flows?” A sudden gush like a waterfall fell upon me. I was struck by a cooling and refreshing sensation. And so starts my first morning in the other world of Eoum.

UPDATES TUES/THURS after chapter 5 Cover art by Tumblr User: @pigeon-princess This book features characters that are related to in many ways to my other novel "Grimoire". While both stories are their own stand alone series, Sun God's Corruption will add a good amount of depth to Grimoire, and Grimoire shows the unfoldings of the world that will eventually come from the events in Sun God's Corruption. I reccomend reading them both interchangably.
