《The Abyss Gazer》Chapter 4:Leaves of the devil

The Adventurers Guild was founded 543 years ago by an union of fighters led by Nondrus Invictus, after a terrible outbreak of feral monsters, caused by the Overlord Ankrei the III, who could control Miasma, menaced to destroy the Light Dwellers territory. It started as simple militia that fought monsters in exchange of a small fee to finance their efforts, but after the great success and fame it received, it became overtime a great intercontinental enterprise that could determine the fate of a kingdom. It is currently ruled by the direct descendant of Nondrus, Gledeyt Invictus

Part of the prologue of The Era of Adventure

After his conversation with Murgin, Andrew returned to the village where Golind and the people of the village were waiting for him. He could hear them whispering and talking between themselves,t hey were probably talking about what to do. Andrew stopped in front of Golind, with his eyes still red from his tears from before.

"Lord Andrew, did you managed to talk with The Great Murgin? Do you have a plan?"

He was trembling. It was clear he was nervous, after all the fate of his village depended on the plan of the boy in front of him.

"I have a plan"

"Fantastic! So what is it?"

"We'll poison them"

"Huh?"

Golind was making a surprised expression. How were they supposed to poison the adventurers? The city was constantly guarded and every single one of their enemies was prepared for this kind of thing. It was a miracle that some of their scouts managed to get in.

"I know you probably won't like it, but hear me out. What do the adventurers want from this forest?"

"The grey leaves, of course, since they can be used to make [Strength Potions] and [Stamina Potions]"

"And they take them and use them continuously, don't they?"

Golind face turned to one of shock.

"W-Wait, my lord, you don't mean-"

"Yes, we'll make poisonous every single tree of grey leaf in the forest"

The goblins suddenly started panicking and screaming. They couldn't allow their precious leaves to be tainted by poison, even if it was the hero who wanted to do it.

"Lord Andrew, we cannot allow you to do it! Even if you somehow managed to render poisonous every single tree, the leaves would lose their protective powers!"

"Golind, i'm a Divine Champion. Not only i can make the poison only work against non-monsters, but also strengthen their protection"

"Ca-can you really do it?"

"Yes, but i'll need your help. You and your friends will have to guide me to every single zone with the grey trees. Then i'll do the rest"

"I see... Then we have no choice. THE 10 STRONGEST FIGHTERS, COME WITH US!"

So Andrew, Golind and 10 other goblins went to the first zone with the trees. When they arrived, Andrew was saddened by the looks of that area. If it wasn't for the brown trunks of the trees, it would seem like the world lost color.

"Well, then let's begin"

Andrew started channeling his new inner mana to cast the enchantments to the leaves. Enchantements were different from normal magic because their main purpose is to strengthen or give another effect to an object. What he wanted to cast were

[Poison], [Corrosion] and [Rise of the Undead]. [Poison] would have gradually hurt and weakened the adventurers, [Corrosion] would have melted their insides and [Rise of the Undead] would have resurrected them as either zombies or skeletons, it depended on how much was left from the corrosion effect, he couldn't control it much but he could at least make it so that it didn't destroy the bones.

First the poison would have weakened the adventurers and made cough blood for ten minutes, scaring and surprising those that didn't consume the leaves. There wasn't any problem of the poison being cured since, while its effect was purposely not very strong, it was still high level, and the adventurers at Gorwyn aren't experienced enough to deal with it. At least that's what the scouts told Golind. Then, the corrosion will kick in, melting their stomachs and killing most of the enemies.

Then, while everyone is confused, the bodies will resurrect and attack anything nearby.

Andrew's prediction was that everyone would think that the leaves adapted to protect themselves or they were cursed. That's because Gorwyn's citizens thought that everything that monsters consumed or revered was dangerous and blasphemous, and the remaining adventurers, after the attack would be very convinced of this because of the panic. Another thing to their advantage is that it seems no one apart from the goblins knew anything about how the leaves actually work

and they were the only reason the adventurers were here, so,i f they suddenly became useless they would abandon the forest. Even if someone realized a powerful person did this, no one would send a strong force unless it became a constant menace.I t's a good plan. At least for a 17 years old boy. And just to be sure he would put the [Curse] status on the leaves.

There is an infinite variety of curses, but this would do nothing. It would be like he simply stuck "cursed" on the leaves.

"Well, then, let's begin!"

Andrew finally started casting on the trees. The wind started rotating around him and his companions held onto themselves while they heard the wind roar, like it acknowledged the boy's efforts. He didn't even need to chant, all the information on magic came out instinctively, even more natural than breathing. After a while the wind stopped and all the pressure from before disappeared. It was done.

"Golind, bring me to the next area"

"Y-Yes, my lord"

He was still trembling from before, he knew the kid in front of him was strong, but not so strong as to release this amount of

pressure. He made a mental note to pray for whoever tried to piss him off.

And so after five days all the grey trees in the forest became biological weapons and, as promised, had their protection strengthened.

After all that work Andrew was resting in Golind's house, who at the moment was reorganizing the village's defenses just in case.

"There's still nine days left.... I can't waste them, i gotta do something"

He was thinking about what to do while he waited for the raid. He didn't want to waste it sleeping, so he decided to check his

mental magic dictionary, searching for any useful magic or enchantment to improve his plan or the village's defense. After searching for twenty minutes he found something interesting: [Dark Solidification].

"Uhm,what's this? It seems to be a mix between a magic and an enchantment. Oh, it allows me to create weapons and armors out of the darkness i create?"

Andrew thought this would be very useful to both himself and any comrade he may find in the journey he has yet to start. He tried doing it and black spheres abruptly started to form in the air and materializing in the form of a sword. It looked rather crude and it was dull, but still a sword nonetheless. Still, just creating it took a lot of energy.

"Oh, oh...... This is much more tiring than i thought. I gotta train with it"

And so he began training to become a walking armory.

Andrew trained for 8 days, till he was able to make 10 full sets of armors and weapons without a problem. He decided to give them to ones who accompanied him in his poisoning of the trees. They looked kind of silly, since they wore full-body armor that wouldn't even let their eyes be seen, and 3 tree of them even had a long helm to make space for their noses. They were

equipped with daggers, bows that could give the [Darkness] effect to any arrow that they shoot and small shields. For Golind

he made a black vest with [Magic Protection] and since he didn't want another staff, he upgraded the one he already had, turning it much stronger weapon which could cast magic with two times the normal power. For the rest of the goblins he made only leather-like armor, but that was enough to tire him completely for a few hours.

After he rested he began talking to Golind

"Golind, did you prepared the defenses, just in case?"

"Of course, lord Andrew, i made it so we're ready for any potential raged survivor"

"Perfect. Now go to sleep Golind. Tomorrow it's gonna be a hell of a long day"

"As you wish, my lord. But what will you do in the meantime?"

"I'll make some extra preparations, then i'll go to sleep"

"Then goodnight my lord"

"Goodnight Golind"

Golind left and the moment Andrew saw him entering his house, he left the village and went to the forest, to a place which he thought nobody would come to. He wanted to test another magic he got interested in: [Shadow Summon].

Apparently it allowed him to summon a dark elemental that would obey his every command, like a puppet. He wanted to use

it as a scout or a warrior, depending on how good it would come out. So he began concentrating, trying to isolate himself from

any external distraction and channeling his magic power into one point.

(What should it be like? A bird? A man? Or maybe a dog?)

Andrew thought that for the moment he wanted a minion that could explore and control the enemies.

While he was thinking what would be more fit for this task, the magic suddenly stopped.

He tried to understand why this happened and looked around.

Then he saw it.

An eye. A giant eye with a completely black eyelid and pupil, without eyelashes and some kind of strange tail-like thingy on the back.

Andrew sighed.

"Well, i did want an observer-type of guy.... but this is a bit too literal"

The eye just stood there, watching his master with curiosity, like it was wondering what was the problem.

"Ok, no need to complain, he's the ma-eye for the job. From now on you are my loyal servant and your name shall be...."

"STEVE!!!"

Steve looked at him for a moment then happily made flips through the air, and when he finished he cuddled Andrew's face.

"WOA, woa. Calm down buddy. We got an hard job tomorrow. Time to rest"

Steve faded away like smoke. One of the effects of [Shadow Summon] was that the summoned creatures could be called or

sent away at will.

"Great! I got myself a scout! But it's time to go to sleep"

Andrew returned to the village and got into the hut that Golind prepared for him. It was small, but he was given a comfortable "bed". It was mostly made of wood and grey leaves. They used them for the beds too.

"They are REALLY over-obsessed about these"

Saying so he lied down and fell asleep almost instantly, with only one thought.

Tomorrow it starts.

His new life will finally truly begin.

His life as a defender, a savior and an avenger.

Everything starts tomorrow.

Hello guys, sorry for the delay of the chapter, i hope you still liked it, even if it got out a bit shorter than expected. It's that there just wasn't a lot to explain in it, only the preparation for the trap.

Also i want to be honest with you: I REALLY want to finish the Greyleaf Arc. Not because i don't like it or because i want to be done with it, quite the opposite, it's just that since i constantly read comics, watch anime or generally search the wiki of anything that catches my interest, i get so much inspiration for my stories that i want to use it instantly. Of course i want to make the Greyleaf Arc most enjoyable for you but i'd like you to think of it as the tip of the iceberg, because honestly, i wasn't really inspired for it. It's like the Greyleaf Arc is the foundation and what comes next is a castle of PURE AWESOMENESS AND FANTASY OVERPOWER that lies As always,i accept any critic and comment towards my story so that i can make it even better.

Thank you for your patience and see you next time=)

P.S:Writing while listening to Disturbed is a really good for my motivation,it makes me feel so pumped up.

RAAAAAAAAAAAAAA (Imagine me as i rip my shirt and beat a shark with a tiger)
