《The Farmer Mage》Chapter 9.3 End of a Long Night

Eyes covered the room in their hundreds. There were no more wailing spirits. They were all devoured to make this room into a battle field dedicated to darkness. Tentacles covered the floor and walls whipping about ready to impale or entangle an enemy on their Markus’ command. Small familiars ran around the place, fluttering on walls, or crawling on the ceiling.

Markus took a sip from Chalice. He only had three more until she vanished. She and Trixie were all that kept him sane in the later stages of this battle.

Two Angelus Fragmentus formed, their holy demeaner made them look like angels sent to cleanse a black spot in hell. Then there was the dimmed sentinel. Somewhat immune to the dark it stood nearly ten feet tall. Weighing nearly 4 tons and if not for its damaged appearance Markus would be nervous.

The normal light from the Angeluses’ failed to pierce the growing fog of miasma in the room. Tentacles moved in the fog quickly wrapping around the angeluses and ripping them away from the sentinel. The massive golem hardly noticed. It was focused only on Markus.

His familiars leapt upon the angeluses merging with their flesh mutating them. Tentacles shot out of their bodies and their stomachs began expanding. Their wings shed of of their feathers and a dark presence began to consume the light within them. After seconds of mutating a dark pulse expanded through the room. Their stomachs split open.

Two massive black snakes burst from the Angeluses bodies. These creatures hissed and moved in the shadows like pools of water. They struck at the sentinel, but it hardly noticed their bites. It raised its cannon and fired off a salvo of flares.

Lights appeared and were snuffed out by the shear amount of darkness in the room. Markus stepped up to the creature and unleashed a barrage of slices and pierces. His blows barely scratched the heavy steel plates covering the creature’s body. It stood firm tanking everything. Markus blasted it with pure psychic force and nothing happened. The Sentinel punched him in the chest sending him sprawling back.

It stepped forward ignoring the tentacles grappling it. Markus rolled away from a powerful hammer blow and a stomp form the creature. Out of options Markus began to freeze the creature. The giant quickly stopped moving. Whatever powered it stopped cold. Markus knew what he had to do but didn’t like it. Checking his points, he blinked and blinked again. He had 1,085points.

He put 99points into vitality. In a sudden burst he doubled in weight. His body bulged, and he grew taller. Breathing became difficult. Like the willpower the stat needed a hundred points to increase it further. Markus stomped on the ground and felt the marble floor crack. He added 99points to endurance, strength, dexterity, and agility. They weren’t as impressive as vitality, but he felt a little better. Psychic power gently took over his breathing. It carried his heavy blood through his body and performed other functions he no longer had the strength to.

With a little over six hundred points left he bought a vitality exclusive ability unlocked when he gained 100 stat points in vitality. 500points later he had a powerful new ability.

Indestructible

His body grew ever stronger soon he weighed over 10 tons. The world around him appeared ever more fragile. He took a step and felt his foot cave in the ground. His breathing was fully taken over by life support and his range of telekinesis shrank to a few feet around him.

Two dimmed sentinels appeared along with a mirror golem. Markus stepped forward now standing 2meters tall. He raised his hands and punched one of the sentinels. It flew crashing against a pillar. Markus balled his hands together and sent them into the mirror golems mirror shield. It cracked exploding from the pure force. Tentacles moved at his will spearing through the sentinels when he knocked them down or tripping one up as he wailed on them.

Once they fall in battle the next round started immediately. He could feel the light coming, the sun was going to rise soon. 2 mirror golems appeared accompanied by a pointy eared priest. An elf, he was sure of it. The elf cast spells that made the golems glow destroying many of the tentacles. Markus jumped up and grabbed the golem’s shoulders. Under his extreme weight the creature fell, and Markus stomped its head in. Weighing over 10 tons was coming in handy. The elf looked at him in fear just like the nightlord.

Markus charged the elf with the other golem’s mirror shield in hand. He bashed the other golem into the wall and snatched up the elf. Before the elf could plead Markus threw him hard against the wall. The wards on the golem winked out leaving it at the mercy of tentacles with its mirror shield cracked.

The elf’s corpse dissolved, and Markus picked up a white fig. This must have been the dungeon treasure for endurance. He tossed it in his mouth and waited for weird transformation. Instead his base endurance increased to 50x he decided to grab the endurance ability. For 500points, he purchased Relentless. The mirror golems went for 150points each and the elf went for 300. So the last five netted him a nice 600points alone.

Relentless

While others stop you keep going ever chasing a goal. Though friends and enemies may fall at the wayside you will keep going forever you are relentless. +100% endurance after point calculations not including items and armor life’s necessities have been cut in half.

Breathing didn’t become easier it came less often. His heart quieted down to a slower drum in his chest. Everything became a bit calmer to him. A smile formed, and he let out a whoop. He survived the challenge and snagged both treasures. He looked down to see his clothes in ruins. Stab wounds and scratches covered his body. His skin was sunburned by the light bells those Angelus Fragmentus used and bits of skull were stuck in his foot. Reaching down, he yanked the pieces out watching his wounds clot quickly before his eyes and began to heal.

He was much bigger, than he was before 2meters by his estimate. Going behind the pillar he scooped Trixie from her hiding place. “We’re going now?” She asked.

“Yes.” He said. Moving out of the chamber he made his way to find Marie and walked through the pantry. Only there was no more movement. No, it was more like everyone was dead with their throats ripped out. He opened the door to the kitchen to see no one. A note was left on the table with a bowl of soup.

Dear Markus

I wanted to stay and see your Pa, I really did. But we had a rough falling out and I don’t want to deal with the Hero of might with his kid in danger. Its bad for my health. So, I left you a bowl of soup and a change of clothes. I enchanted them myself to resize to the wearer and even repair damage. Enjoy, maybe we will see each other again someday. Don’t lose my signet ring, it will protect you in the academy trust me. Be careful with yourself Markus and don’t look for me. Good Bye.

Forever a Friend

Marie Dracul

Dracul, he looked the ring over and sure enough a dragon surrounded the gem in the black ring. This was a noble’s ring one worn by a lady. It resized to fit his pinky. The stone seemed tiny compared to his large fingers. Trixie went through a series of yawns and promptly fell asleep.

Markus put on the new cloths. The pants resized, they were made of leather and filled with cooling enchantments. The shirt was a bit flowery for his taste, but it was the style now. A smart black vest went over the flowery blouse a straw-hat hand crafted lay next to the cloths. Along with dress socks and riding boots. The hat had black thread running through it but didn’t really go with the outfit. He wore it anyway. His height would already make him stand out with or without the hat.

He moved about after finishing the soup looking for anything useful. But it seemed she cleaned the place out of any tools. Even the dungeon core was gone. Vali dungeon would surely appear somewhere else. The monsters would remain and with time the mana would congeal into a new dungeon core. That’s what the lore said, anyway.

Markus found an old umbrella. It would supply Trixie with shade at least. Just as he prepared to venture out of the dungeon, a wall opened revealing Pa. The old man looked him over. “What did she do to you boy? You look fully grown.” Pa said and just like that he felt his age again. Embarrassment clouded his words and he stuttered a bit. “Slow down and talk plainly you’re not in trouble.” Pa said.

“I ate the dungeon treasures one of them was dark, so it made me taller and heavier.” Pa nodded.

“Well as long as you didn’t grow extra arms or a third nipple, no harm done.” Pa said with a grin. “What do you have under your arm son?” Pa asked. This was the moment of truth.

“This is Trixie my mind flayer.” He said almost in challenge.

“They are dangerous boy. You know that, well where is Marie Dracul haven’t seen that woman in ten years would love to catch up.” He handed him the letter.

Pa shook his head and wiped the sweat away. “That woman and her anxiety. If I wanted to kill her, I would have done it instead of just smacking her around a little. I’ll catch her one of these days and get my reminiscing.” Pa looked up at Markus’s new cloths.

“What your wearing is probably worth 100k points. The enchantments on them will last forever. I bet your great grandkids will inherit them just as fresh looking as now. Multiply it by ten if you let out it’s a Maria Dracul original.” Markus blinked he was wearing 1m points worth of enchanted clothing.

“Shouldn’t we sell it then we could expand the farm and raise anything we wanted.” Pa shook his head.

“Its hard to prove it was hers and most would think you stole them rather than received them as a gift. Better to wear them during the hot summer than get our whole family locked up. Now if you’re done dawdling lets go.” They traveled to a blue rune covered circle and after a squeezing sensation appeared near the wagon. Stan sized him up and the goat head spat a wad of flam on Trixie. Then guffawed to himself. “Looks like she’s part of the family now.” Pa muttered.

Trixie was put under an umbrella over in the wagon while Markus jogged beside. He was much too heavy to ride now.
