《Forgive me, I didn't mean to take that!》Chapter 9: The Incompetent Reincarnation System Staff

After Murong Yingyue escaped from the compound grounds, she unshrunk herself and hopped on her staff like a broom. She lifted smoothly off the ground, and she shot off quickly, the sight of the Murong Clan grounds shrinking rapidly behind her.

Once she had deemed it safe enough to stop running, she landed and slipped her space ring off again.

Yingyue sent more spiritual energy into her space ring, activating yet another formation.

Multi-use space ring, I love you!

After waiting a couple seconds, a miniature version of Qie appeared. He was completely beaten up, bruises all over his face, and was curled up in a ball, sobbing hysterically.

“Qie! What the hell happened? Are we under attack?” He ignored her, crying harder.

“Tell me what happened!”

“It was that First Senior Brother of yours! He beat me up! Waahh, Yueyue, avenge me!”

“That despicable bitch! How dare he!? I should’ve known that shit could only come from an asshole like him! Speak, why did he beat you up?”

“He... he thought that I was a spy and he kept beating me up until I said I was and then he kept hitting me until I teleported him to you!” He started to wail.

“Yueyue, I swear I’m not a spy! I’m really innocent! You know I can’t remember my past life!”

“It’s okay,” She consoled him. “I believe you. I know that Master would definitely make the most trustworthy formation spirit in this world. I know you wouldn’t spy on us.” You’re too dumb for that.

“I love you, Yueyue! You're so kind and the best person in the world!” More tears ran down the spirit's face, but this time, they were tears of happiness. They were cut short by a hand plucking him out of the formation and causing him to dissipate.

“What- Oh, it’s you. Again.” She stared thin-lipped at Di Jinming, who was smiling calmly like he hadn’t just killed one of a formation spirit’s bodies. And he was violating her personal bubble again.

“He was a spy. He told me that himself. So I saw fit to put him in his place.”

“He only said that so you would stop hurting him! He’s afraid of pain!”

“Then explain why he looks exactly like the demon Jun Qie from a hundred years ago.” Di Jinming said coldly, the smile vanishing from his mouth.

“Who?” She tried not to cringe at his look of intense disdain. Stop looking at me like some dumbass! I swear, the name sounds familiar!

“Jun Qie. He was the cause of almost half the wars during his lifespan, and his kill count numbered in the millions. Right before his death, he went insane and went on a rampage to slaughter his path to the world above ours, starting from the first realm to the ninth realm.” Whoa there, that’s crazy! How in the fuck did this guy manage to kill so many people? And in the higher realms, too! He continued to speak.

“He was only stopped at the ninth realm, where he faced my grandfather, Di Yingzi, who killed him. And,” Di Jinming sent an intense glare towards her. “He was only killed because my grandfather used an artifact to distract him and land a killing blow.” Ummm... okay? Cool story, bro.

“He’s fine. He doesn’t remember his past life. Come on, Master made the formation himself.” Di Jinming continued to remain tense.

“And why, of out all the formation cores he could’ve chosen, did he choose his soul?”

“Master was having his ‘Going Green’ phase when he made it, ‘kay? He was really into recycling, so he wanted to use a soul as a substitute for the core.” She was sent another disbelieving look. You skeptic, just go with it! Why are you so troublesome?

“It worked, okay? He truly doesn’t remember anything, and it’s the perfect alternative to waiting for a regular formation core to become sentient. Master chose him since he was one of the souls who sinned too much and was ineligible for reincarnation. I watched Master dunk him in the River of Forgetfulness.”

“And what about you?” Me? What about me? “You still have the memories from your past lives. Why is that?”

“So you can read minds!” Argh, whatever, there was a possibility of it anyways. I shouldn’t be so surprised.

You shouldn’t. She tensed slightly when she heard a mocking voice in her head, but relaxed once she realized it was just Di Jinming. Who else was that invasive and annoying?

Fuck! I forgot that you mind attributes can talk mentally. He sent an irritated message to her.

Just get to the point.

Fine, I’ll give you the abridged version. So I have two sets of memories from my past lives.

What do you mean by two sets of memories? Murong Yingyue glared at him.

Shut up and let me finish! She crouched down, shrinking her staff into a small stick. I need to say everything first, and then you can be an annoying piece of shit and ask questions. So let’s go back to the beginning of this thrice-dammed mess. This girl, Mo Weiwei, had her soul sent into a different universe’s reincarnation system by accident. Yingyue used her staff to draw a shaky circle in the dirt, twisting it in place to make eyes and making a small triangle for a nose. Di Jinming gave another judgemental stare at her crooked lines. She ignored it and continued.

None of the incompetent staff in the reincarnation system noticed, so they just ran her through the reincarnation process like she was a normal soul. This was actually the cause of so many transmigrating main characters in different worlds or reincarnated people. As for how people from Earth wrote about them? Did they magically links their imaginations to the other universes? Were they able to create universes by creating stories like how they explained in so many goddammed fanfictions where the main character reincarnated as a person in their favorite story?

Nope, that was complete crap. There were an infinite number of universes. One of them was bound to have the exact events depicted in the story occurring in them. As for the badly written storylines?

...Blame the inevitable need for some forced plot. (Like this story.)

Murong Yinyue continued.

But she was from a different universe, so the waters from the River of Forgetfulness didn’t really work, and her soul wasn’t fully wiped. She was reincarnated into the body of a girl - from this universe - called Lin Lexi. Murong Yingyue drew another pathetic face, this time adding a smile to differentiate.

Lin Lexi’s body ended up containing two souls: the original and the reincarnated soul. Another crappy circle was drawn, and she connected it to the two previous faces with arrows pointing towards the new circle.

They had to vie for dominance, and Mo Weiwei’s soul ended up losing since she wasn’t accustomed to this universe’s spiritual energy, and went dormant. Lin Lexi’s soul stayed dominant up until someone killed her, and Mo Weiwei’s soul took over. She fused their souls together to survive. Yingyue smudged out half of the first face, then later completely erased both of the faces, drawing a triangle nose and a smile for the new face.

That means Mo Weiwei was in charge, but she had her own memories and Lin Lexi’s. Are you following so far?

Yes, go on. He replied, eyebrows furrowed in thought as he stared intently at the pitiful diagrams in the dirt.

Good. Now Mo Weiwei eventually died as well, but this time, the people in charge of the reincarnation sent a representative to fix everything. But since their souls were fused together, they couldn’t just put her through the reincarnation system again. So they came to an agreement. She wouldn’t stir up any trouble in exchange for keeping her memories every time she reincarnated.

What do you mean every time she reincarnated?

You already know my soul is the fused one I’ve just been talking about. When I die, this soul will be shoved into another newborn’s body. Eventually, I’ll reincarnate enough times so my soul fully assimilates into this universe.

So... you are Mo Weiwei?

Nope. I said she would keep her memories. That means I’m not either of them. I just have access to both of their memories, although Mo Weiwei’s are clearer since she was the dominant soul near the end.

Ah, I see.

Now, are you satisfied?

Yes.

Why do you sound so smug? She could practically see a shit-eating grin pasted on his face. Yingyue looked up, and as she thought, there was a shit-eating grin on his face. She scowled at him, although he couldn’t see it.

Of course I'm smug. I got your secret out of you.

You're not a special snowflake. My memories-from-past-lives thing is an open secret.

Oh... His head drooped down, and he frowned. I wanted to be special to you and be the only person who knows your deepest, darkest secrets. Murong Yingyue felt her cheek twitch.

Fuck off, you melodramatic fool! Who in the fuck would want to share anything with such an unreliable guy like you? You can also stop bothering me. I know you mind attributes like to listen in on other people’s thoughts all the time, and you probably thought I was entertaining and wanted to bait me, right?

Right...

Good. Now go off and find another victim. Di Jinming nodded very obediently and flew away without another word. Holy shit, that was easier than I thought it’d be! I was expecting another lengthy mental dialogue spanning several more pages to come up. Whatever, I’ll take it. But now... how do I get back? She doubted Qie would answer her call again, and it was a long way back home, even if she flew the whole way back.

Fuck! Is that why he left so quickly? To avoid having to take me back? That asshole! I’ll definitely beat him up the next time I see him! Murong Yingyue stomped her foot in irritation. This was why she hated dealing with jerk-type male leads. What was so good about them? They were assholes who did whatever they wanted! Who cares if they’re secretly “sweet and tender” inside? She held grudges, and she would never survive a day as a true main character who was constantly oppressed by unreasonable people. Her temper was way too short for a “cool and cunning” kind of main character.

Isn’t it partly the main character’s fault too? Not only do they offend the brainless villains, they keep on insulting them so childishly even though they’re supposed to be a level-headed character.

Whatever, I need to set up camp so I can ask Qie to teleport me back tomorrow. I should also get started on cultivating so I can be ready to beat up my stupid First Senior Brother. And I should beat up S3B and Feifei while I’m at it. I’ll teach those traitors to ditch me!

After looking around, Yingyue found a fist-sized rock. She picked it up, using her spiritual energy to carve out a room inside of it. She tossed the stone away from her, and with a flick of her hand, the stone expanded in less than a second to the size of a house. Murong Yingyue walked into it, plopping down on the smooth floor. With another flick of her fingers, plates of exotic foods appeared on the ground, with chopstick laid neatly out in front of her.

She hadn’t eaten in more than a day. Murong Yingyue didn’t actually need to eat, but she loved the taste of food too much. She was also used to eating regularly because of her memories as a normal human. And now, as some almighty rich and powerful person, she could try anything she wanted, and eat as much as she wanted without getting fat.

She ate for hours, trying out and savoring each dish, and taking mental notes on each one.

Mmmn! They put apricots in this!

This sauce is really good! It goes so well with the oyster. I need to get more.

Hmm? I didn’t know that you could put plum sauce in this dish.

After she had finished eating her new dishes, she brought out more food. This food was different from the dishes before. It was made from special ingredients, ones that contained spiritual energy! Murong Yingyue refused to eat something nasty like Rocky Mountain Mouse gallbladders to help with gathering spirit energy. At least not straight up. So she made them into dishes. Simple, right? No more drinking Silver Vine Boar piss to break that ranking barrier!

(Not that Yingyue actually did that. She made S3B do it.)

As she chewed, she contemplated her next move.

I want to beat the crap out of First Senior Brother, but it’s not effective to rank up by only eating. I’ll have to ask Qie to teleport me to a dimension with abundant spiritual energy. Too bad that he’s been scared off by that troublesome asshole.

At least I avoided another main character flag. I must’ve broken a record for the fastest time for someone to reveal their reincarnated status to their male lead. Only nine chapters in, and I told him.

Wait.

WAIT.

Did I just think of Di Jinming as my male lead? Arghhhhh! No! I’m already slipping into a main character role! Yingyue abandoned her food for a moment to roll around on the ground in part frustration and part embarrassment.

I’m so weak! It’s only been about a week since I got dragged into a pseudo female main character role, and I’m already thinking like one. Am I going to start randomly pissing off female side characters for breathing in the same space as the male lead now? Oh my god, I can already hear those people and their unnaturally supportive family spitting at me and calling me a slut!

Murong Yingyue stared vacantly at the ceiling. Then an idea came to her.

Wait! I can still break this flag! What has no female main character ever done before?

That’s right, they’ve never beat their male lead in combat! I can just hurry up and cultivate and beat Di Jinming up!

... Ahhhh! I just referred to him as my male lead again! She grit her teeth. Well, he definitely won’t be after I’m through with him!

Murong Yingyue smiled evilly.

So what if he can read minds? I can still kick his ass!

I should review some of my memories about mind reading villains...
