《Empress' Evolution》48. Probing and Interrogation

While the moon reflected the blood of the humans and the fire danced in celebration of their deaths. A little daemon donning a pink kimono walked out of the woods, she was no taller than 90cm.
Her hands were small and frail and she was cute and cuddly. Her legs were short so it was clear that she was not the fast kind of daemon. If her threat level was measurable, she would be in the negatives.
But as she walked slowly, the Ogres and Pixies bowed down in her presence.
She stopped before a tree where an impaled hunter remained pinned. She was silently watching the face of the hunter, and as she heard bits of screams here and there, she smiled in satisfaction.
"Report."
A dark-cloaked female appeared by her side; it was Dhampy who held a bloodied sword. As to what kind of work she just did, only she and Eve knew. She lowered herself in front of Lilith.
"We have cleaned the area properly, there are no more humans alive in a five-kilometer radius. And I personally see to it the capture of the particular hunter you wished for us to capture. He is at the designated area."
"Okay, now, finish the daemons, have Eve meet me on the way for backup. I'll teach her a thing or two about interrogation."
"Understood."
Lilith began to smile; she waved her hand and a strong wind blew over. She was swept off her feet as she heads out. Alone in the air, she could feel her MP being drained, she had flown a couple of dozens of meters already so she chose to land.
And as she landed on a tree branch. The smile on her face was wiped. She walked over to the trunk of the tree quickly turned to a Leopard blew created a sheet of ice on the tree trunk and returned to her loli form.
The semi-thick sheet of ice reflected her body. Looking at her face, she sighed at her cute face.
Big eyes and rosy chubby cheeks resembled mochi. Her long back hair almost reaches her ankles, and yet it was still as flawless as ever. It was straight and undisturbed even with the earlier winds.
Bam!
[-20 HP]
Lilith punched the sheet of ice containing her image, "Dammit, how the hell am I still cute? And why do I have bangs now?"
Lilith felt like wailing to show her discontent.
"This is unfair, why? Why can't I grow up already? This is demeaning!"
The need to act like a child card had already faded long ago. She was now a respected Priestess who commands others.

She won't be able to rule with this face! Even the other forms remained resembled fucking toys. She just wanted to know HOW?
'The world is unfair.'
She cursed her own fate and as her palms met the tree, she felt movement on her shadow.
"Priestess."
Lilith wiped her tears away before turning to Eve who had yet to know why her Priestess shed tears.
"Is something the matter, Priestess?"
Lilith jumped back and vehemently shook her head, "No, no, I am fine. Lead the way, Eve."
"…Okay, Priestess."
Eve turned her back and, in her mind, a certain thought entered.
'She's so kind, to cry for our injured kin, she has the heart that is as big as the ocean.' She giggled and decided to become just like her Priestess. This news would be preached by Eve to the rest and would be passed down for generations.
Because of Eve's desire to share the "greatness" of the Priestess she followed. This idea of sharing would be the origin of a famous informant of the Village.
All the while this thought was created, Lilith was thinking something else entirely…
'I have enough of this…being an Ogre sucks…but it's also good…but it still sucks…' Lilith was being contradictory with herself and is now cursing her fate.

Bound and been robbed of his Freedom, one particular hunter named Cert had his mind put in disarray. He did not know what is happening nor did he know how he got here exactly.
'I am sure I was escaping from the daemons, how did I end up in this place?'
Cert was not what one would call a combatant Hunter, he was what's referred to as a Continental Hunter.
Continental Hunters travel through different places and record their findings. There're some such Hunters who can fight but more often than not they were weaker than a fly.
Cert went to the Forest of Beast because it had yet to be explored. He came here to document the Forest of Beast, but he didn't think such a thing would happen.
"Help! Somebody, help!"
Cert could only cry for help. He was no fighter so it was the only thing he could do. But as his voice grew hoarser by the minute, the more he lost faith.
He could only wriggle on the ground, like a worm.
Tak! Tak! Tak!
Footsteps were heard, Cert looked alive as he sat on the ground. His limbs were tied together thus resulting in an uncanny look.
While he was busy looking like an idiot, the light footsteps stopped right in front of him.
"So, you're the Continental Hunter? You seem underwhelming, are you knowledgeable about your job? Eve, is this one reliable?"

"I don't know, Priestess. It was the Master who said it was him."
"Well I supposed we won't know until we question him."
There are two voices that echoed, one was soft and cuddly, while the other was seductive and alluring. The second voice stood out the most to him as his virgin mind took over and constructed the perfected womanly figure he could think of.
However, he could not say anything about the other one.
It was a sweet-sounding voice. Hearing it put Cert at ease. And as his imagination run wild, his imagination crossed out every single sexy lady all that remained was a cute puppy.
His mind wandered as he began to imagine such thoughts, but he was soon freed from his own stupidity and realized what kind of predicament he was in.
"Where am I? Who's there? Please, help me! Untie me!"
He cried aloud despite being close to the speakers. He did not care and he felt it soon after…
Pah!
"You dare show such disrespect to the Priestess?"
"Eve, stop that."
He was slapped across the face and the resulting shock shook the covers in his loose. And as he caught a glimpse of the surrounding beings, he froze the instant he saw their horns.
"D-daemons?"
The owners of the voice were daemons and seeing them like this now, he felt fear. He looked at the kid and then at the bombshell that was Eve. Despite her near-perfect body, she was still a daemon proven by the horn protruding on her forehead.
He was scared at the daemons before him, he is failing to properly express his emotions as he began to feel more and more pressure. These are daemons, savages who only kill to survive, his fate was sealed.
'They're going to play with me until I die; I can't let that happen!'
He had studied daemons in the Hunter Academy, he knows what was about to happen. He was not some courageous hero, but even he knew of his limitations. Daemons were beings born to kill other beings, thus, his only ending would be death.
They may speak the human tongue but it was not the same. They are beast that must be slaughtered for the safety of the humans. Thus, he wishes to pass on without experiencing the fate of endless pain, Cert was prepared to do what was taught to him in the academy.
Kill yourself…
But as he readied himself to bite his tongue off, and execute the most courageous decision he had made in this life, a vine appeared from out of thin air and penetrated his mouth filling it to a point it almost dislocated his jaw.
"You wanted to kill yourself? That is not going to work, little one…I have some questions for you. Now I will remove the vines, out of your mouth, try anything else and I will be leading you to a world of pain."
Cert's eyes widened for many reasons, mainly seeing the daemon having an intelligence so high was something unforeseen. He looked at Lilith as if he was looking at a ghost, but as he saw her LVL, he confirmed she was not a Legendary-tier.
But that made him even more curious.
The vines slowly came out of Cert's mouth and as they did, Cert was freed from having his ability to speak taken.
Lilith put her hands together and was prepared to use her usual routine of carrot and stick.
"So, why don't you tell me what your plans are…human?"
"..Fuck off, you midget fucking piece of shi…"
Pah!
A vine appeared and slapped Cert before filling his mouth with vines without mercy once again. His mouth almost exploded.
"Okay, stop trying to act like someone cool or badass just because I am small, okay? I can see in your eyes that you are a coward, trying too hard to impress a girl is really embarrassing you know?"
Lilith's smile was present, but she was livid at the moment.
"Untie him, Eve."
"But…"
"Do it."
Eve heard her sudden instructions and cut off the vines that tied Cert. Lilith moved the vine inside Cert's mouth forward.
He tried to pull the thick vines out but failed.
Snap!
Lilith snapped her fingers and four more vines with thorns appeared and grabbed Cert's four limbs from each direction.
The vines pulled his limbs.
Tears finally began falling from the corners of his eyes.
The thorns digging on his flesh. Lilith finally pulled out the vines from his mouth and asked again.
"Tell me what you are.."
"Ptooo!"
Cert spat on Lilith, Eve was about to kill him but Lilith stopped her.
Lilith showed a smile at Eve.
"Eve listen, when you're interrogating someone, there are people who are always uncooperative, this man is one of those people. But there are ways to make them talk, now, watch as I demonstrate how."
Directly below Cert, a thorny vine had been summoned. A bad premonition entered his mind.
And as Lilith raised her hand and used the sharp wind to destroy his trousers.
He screamed "I'll talk!" as the thorny vines darted up and penetrated his back entrance.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

Fragments of Glass
before the 1939-1945 War, most churches in England had stained glass windows, but despite local people's best efforts many of these windows were smashed in the bombing. What could be repaired was repaired, but in many churches all they could do was reassemble the remaining fragments randomly, with extra bits of clear glass added to eke them out to fill the windows. That is what I imagined for my collection of short stories: fragments of stained glass, bits of robe, bits of faces, all sorts of odds and ends randomly stuck together. And with quite a lot of clear fragments among the coloured ones. Just broken pieces of stories that anyone can look through.

Toothpick
“Hello! My humble audience! I, the Bard of the North, am going to tell you a tale. Nothing new, nothing old. A story of a hero, some may say, others a poor boy who was hated by the world.” The storyteller paused as he waited, right timing was everything when telling a story. Pacing… Too slow and the audience became bored then left without tossing even the smallest of coins. If he spoke too fast and rushed the story. It would leave the audience confused and having no reason to be impressed. So like any good storyteller, the Bard has to do a balancing act of sorts. Not too slow, not too fast. Just perfectly in the middle. “In a shattered country in the south, a novice princeling has the ambition to mend a torn tapestry that is his birthplace. Struggling to fend off those who would usurp the throne in an unending civil war spanning centuries. A mercenary that left only death in his wake, unable to stave off the monotony and peace of life. He looks back at the path laden with bodies, wondering if it was all worth it. Wandering souls summoned by a madman, travel away from a wasteland in a foreign land, the first alone, the others as companions. A deity, ancient in her years, waiting to be freed from a duty she no longer enjoys. For all these people and their stories, none are the hero of this tale. No, the hero is not grand, not wise, not ready.. he was punished for nothing of his doing, who was an outcast that was unloved by many, including his father.” This was always the big reveal novices use to jump off into their story. He did not start here, instead, like any good fishermen, he set the bait and waited until the fish bit before pulling. As he saw the audience's eyes focus, he then started the backstory. The harness, that stopped the listeners from having metaphorical whiplash. The foreshadowing. “But that is not where the story starts. No, not even the hero's birth. Where the story begins, is the boredom of the deity, a deity many know of. She who hunts for the impossible, the guide for those who have lost the path, the Huntress of Mallon--” A small pause, a short breath. “--All old names for a single powerful being that has roamed the grounds of this continent longer than any line of kings or queens, lords or ladies. A being of worship for many an individual…” One last breath. And he began singing the first verse.
