《Ambassadors to another world》Chapter 34: Candy

Nelson’s true workload began after the meeting with the King. Once he returned to the base he immediately started working on the necessary paper work, and he only had a week do finish it all.
Firstly he needed to write the actual document detailing all the agreements he and the King made, then make a detailed report for the UN, and also manage all the permits that the delegation will most likely need. He also needed to write his own recommendation for them besides their personal requests and reports.
Truly this is the hard part of being an Ambassador.
The general had already arranged a makeshift office for him the moment he arrived at fort Spearhead, after all he can’t possibly do his work in his room. He felt that it was quite a waste since he barely got to use it since in one week he will be moving to Lancia. Still he appreciated the effort.
His “office” was a rather small room with a wooden table on the far end right in front of the windows. On his table was a small metal plaque with the word “Ambassador” inscribed on it. He felt that this title was little too boring but he really didn’t care. Natural lighting lit up the room during the day giving his makeshift office a cozy and homely feel.
“Honestly, all I need is my old file case and a coffee table here in the middle and it’s like I’m back on earth” Nelson said with a smile. Who knew that he would be nostalgic over such a trivial thing?
Donning his reading glasses, Nelson then began to throw himself onto his work.
He began by writing the formal agreement with the King and as he began typing down the different points for the agreement he couldn’t help but smile on how smoothly everything went.
He managed to “seduce” the King with the promise of technology and was easily able to worm his way into the capital without much effort. He had to thank the Manticores for this, he knew that the King wouldn’t have been as respectful had it not been for that lucky moment to show off their power.

Still he didn’t expect some of the things the King asked, like asking for manufacturing technology and help with mining raw materials. He now respected the King a little more now since he was able to infer about their industrial capabilities with just the supermarket on Larien. He also had to commend the King’s guts to demand a 70/30 split for the metals despite us the Earth doing most of the work, though this still was part of his plan.
He wanted to appear like a reliable ally to Aleria and therefore gain its trust effectively gaining a foothold on the local politics. From there he would work his way to negotiate with the other Kingdoms as well and slowly but surely increase Earth’s influence on Nelithea.
While he didn’t want to “conquer” Nelithea but he wanted Earth to become a huge influence on the local politics, this is to make sure that the trading of goods and other materials will run smoothly. Plus doing this “legally” would keep the media off his back therefore giving him less of a headache. Right now Nelithea is a treasure chest waiting to be opened and Aleria was the key to unlocking it.
The next day the others began submitting their requests and reports to him, thus even more work piled up. He still hasn’t finished his report for the UN at this point but he had no choice but to work faster.
He had a bit of trouble handling Karl’s request since his insurance company was being stingy over his safety. He had to call a friend who knew a guy who knew another guy who knew the insurance company’s president. Needless to say everything went smoothly afterwards.
The afternoon came and he was almost done with his own report when he suddenly heard a knock on his door.
“Who could that be?” Nelson asked himself
“Come in” Nelson exclaimed

The one who entered the room was none other than Prof. Leia. It appears that she was going to submit her request, though she seems to be a bit late. What he didn’t expect was that huge stack of papers Leia was carrying on her arms.
Nelson then stood up to help the poor woman out.
“Thank you Mr. Nelson” Leia said thanking Nelson for his help
“What are these?”
“Oh this is my report from the outreach programs, it includes the reports of the staff, progress of the teaching program and many others. Oh and the one on top is my request letter” Leia said as she placed the papers on Nelson’s tables.
“Why are there so many papers?” Nelson asked a bit confused
“Oh that’s because I asked the staff to compile all their experiences into detailed individual reports. As for the timeframe, I wanted them to write about everything that happened ever since they arrived at Larien” Leia clarified
“Wait, so you made them write some kind of journal entry? Why?”
“Well it’s because I like reports to be every detailed since I want to know everything that is to know about a certain situation, though I feel I can be a bit overbearing” Leia sighed
Nelson just gave out a sigh of defeat; he was now given more workload as he had to check all of these reports individually. He really hated this part of his job.
He removed his glasses and rubbed his eyes a little bit.
“Are you okay Mr. Nelson?” Leia voicing a little concern
“You look tired”
“No I’m fine” Nelson replied
“I’m just a bit surprised by the amount of reports you gathered, I didn’t expect you would get individual reports” Nelson clarifiied
“Oh I’m sorry, is that not how you do things here?”
“No no, it’s fine. I just need to skim through these and then store them for documentation purposes.” Nelson replied as he stretched his arms and returned to his desk. Truth be told he was feeling a bit tired but he wanted to be done with this today, or at least be done with half of it. After all he still needed discuss with the UN on just how they will handle the selling of manufacturing technology.
Leia looked like she was thinking of something when suddenly her expression changed as if a light bulb lit in her head. She then walked to wards Nelson desk while taking something out of her left pocket
“Mr. Nelson here, you can have this” Leia said as she stretched her hand toward Nelson.
“Is this candy?” Nelson asked.
“Yes”
“Why do you have candy?”
“Well, I hate to admit it because of my age but eating candy calms me down and gives me energy whenever I feel tired from work. Though it’s mostly because I have a sweet tooth and I never really grew out of it” Leia said a bit embarrassed
“So here, maybe this will give you a burst of energy while working” Leia said with a smile
“Thank you” Nelson replied
“You’re welcome” Leia said as she left the rom
Nelson then took a closer look at the candy.
“Coffee flavor” Nelson said
He unwrapped the candy and ate it.
“Hmm, this is pretty good. Just the right amount of sweetness”
And as Leia said, he did gain a burst of energy thus he continued with his work.

The Saga of Geir Røshjert
"His name will never be sung, son. Skalds and bards like me will never tell his stories to the mass. But only us and us alone will keep telling his story, his actions, his saga. For he is the man who started all of this." This is a story no man in Lumenter will ever hear, no man except for an Arnesen, for his stories are dull and generic to the ears of the masses, except for us, because he is the very reason why our people traveled this far east, why kingdoms in Erisgi fell and rose, why I... even existed in the first place. He is Geir, son of Arne, called 'the Stranger' by the people. But what he truly is, is a fiery red heart that beats inside every Eyklandian, Arnesen, and me.
