《Ambassadors to another world》Chapter 3: Introductions of qualified yet questionable people (part 1)

With a barely audible whirl, the 3D projector came to life. The 3D projector, also known as the 3D presentation interface, has been an indispensable tool for meetings and presentations ever since it first became commonplace in 2055 and has improved over the years. This latest iteration not only displays 3D images like the older models, but it also features something called “complete imagery system” which creates an image all over the room and seemingly transports you to another place.
The general who was standing near the projector waved his hand and the user interface appeared before him. The interface isn’t too special; it’s nothing more than a 3D projection of your average PC desktop screen, albeit without the background. The general then inserted flash drive into the machine and the contents appeared as small folders. He grabbed one of the folders and opened it, and an image began to fill the room (By the way as a side note the software used to make presentations for this is called Ultrasoft Imagery).
The room was then engulfed by light and the surroundings changed from the airbus hangar into open grassland with no end in sight. From where the sun is placed in this illusion one could guess that it around noon, fortunately there were no sensory stimulation functions for this device (like the ones in cinemas) so the audience were spared from the heat of the sun. Aside from the sun something that looked like a moon can be seen hanging from the sky. The moon had a bluish tinge to it and is somehow visible despite the sun being so high up in the sky.
“Ladies and gentlemen, what you are seeing now is the world on the other side, Nelithea.”The general explained.
“We will be arriving there in approximately an hour so I would like to make use of this time to brief you over the what we know so far of that world so that all of you will be up to speed when we get there. We will also use this time for you to introduce yourselves to one another since you will all be working closely together in the foreseeable future.”

“Well then Mr. Ambassador, would you like to do the honor of being the first?” Said the general as he looked at the elderly man with a nice beard.
The man simply stood up with no change in expression and looked at everyone in the room and began to speak.
“I am Nelson Sutherland.” The man said in a commanding tone.
“I am the former special relations officer of the UN and was assigned to handle diplomatic ties between different nations. I was mostly responsible for smoothing out agreements over space exploration and resource gathering matters. As of now I am the leader of this delegation and I would to like to remind all of you that we are representing Earth in this world. I know many of you have heard the stories about Nelithea having things that once only existed in our minds. Trust me I understand your enthusiasm, but I am expecting all of you to conduct yourselves properly in front of the locals and to not cause any unnecessary problems. If anyone of you causes any sort of incident you will answer to me and will be pusnished as I see fit. That is all.” The man ended his speech and sat back down. An eerie silence now engulfed the room
“What a buzzkill’ Karl said to himself as he sighed inwardly.
He could tell that a mood inside the hangar has dropped significantly no thanks to a certain old man. The man wearing the weird zoo keeper clothes looked very dejected as expected. The guy was probably ready to let loose and indulge himself in this new world. The general sensing something was amiss quickly called for a volunteer to introduce themselves and liven up this oppressive mood.
“How about you Doctor, would you please introduce yourself?” The general asked the Asian woman wearing a lab coat. She looked visibly annoyed but nevertheless stood up and began her introduction.

“I am Doctor Susan Chang, Medical practitioner with knowledge of both surgical procedures and microbial infections” She spoke brimming with confidence herself.
“I was chosen to be part of the humanitarian effort but I was also sent for another agenda. The medical world is very interested in this world because of the potential of finding cures for diseases that seemed incurable in our world. While we are there I highly suggest that none of you interrupt me in my work and only speak to me when absolutely necessary, are we clear?” The woman said as she glared at everyone in the room then quietly sat back down.
Once again the room fell into a deeper silence.
“What is up with these guys?” Karl said to himself quite annoyed this time.
The first two people that spoke were people he would like to avoid at all costs. Then a mature looking woman exuding the motherly aura stood and began her introduction. You could tell that she was bothered by the mood and wanted things to lighten up.
“Um, my name is Professor Leia Bartholomew; I am a general education professor who mainly joins outreach programs to teach children hidden away in remote areas. Because of my line of work I am still single and can never find the time to look for love. Wait, that was unnecessary information, please forget that ughhh, I messed up again.” the woman sat back down visibly embarrassed about what she said. Now the room was beset by an awkward atmosphere.
“Oh my god it keeps getting worse” Karl said to himself as he starts losing all hope.
He then surveyed the others and noticed the Asian man has dozed off! Karl at this point has just given and accepted this absurd situation. The general also noticed the man who dozed off coughed loudly and somehow the Asian man woke up.
“Huh? The project’s deadline is closing and I need to finish this proposal fast!” The man shouted as he stood up still half asleep.
The people in the room then stared at him awkwardly.
“Oh great, another weird one!” Karl just lost the little bit of hope he had left and started to wonder what fate awaits him on the other side.
