《Philippine Lore》BK1; Chapter 18: [ I will become strong! ]

Crouching in the bush, he took a few deep breaths and started to imagine the scene of the sky and ocean that cooled him down. He took quite the effort to suppress his racing heartbeat from his fear and anxiety.
One… two…
After the third long and silent breath, Rain finally restrained his emotions, and his heartbeat gradually slowed down and his body no longer trembled after the surge of epinephrine wore off in his bloodstream. He entered a relatively calm state.
Pass, go on… nothing is here idiot. Go away!
Hm? Wait a minute, this part of the forest must be its territory. Is it patrolling the area?
A spark of mixed thoughts flared in Rain’s mind, but as soon as he came back to reality, fear filled his heart once more.
Although he really wanted to see the rumored jewels himself, but now isn’t the time. As long as that Bull stays inside this forest, he would have numerous opportunities in the future.
I need to become stronger! That jewel is MINE!
This moment could be said to be the important point in Rain’s life, because it was at this moment where his thirst for strength finally started.
The unquenchable thirst that would become the foundation of the new legend!
I want to become strong.
I want to become so strong that no one can make me hide like a coward anymore.
Not just to stand above the masses but to be able to do anything I want without obstruction! Like an eagle flying freely in the sky!
He wanted to become strong only for his freedom.
For the first time, he thought that.
---The gears of fate had finally started to move.
--- ---
After that is a very boring period of waiting for the [ Sarangay ] to leave. Rain could swear, this must be slowest ever twenty minutes in the whole world.
Why is it that time crawl like a snail when you are awaiting something and seemed to fly when you are doing something you love?
Haa~ Life is really ironic.
Rain’s body became stiff as he spent a long time hiding without moving even single muscle as he observes the monster surveying the area.
When the [ Sarangay ] finally left, Rain and the spider cautiously check the surrounding and when they finally deemed that the area was completely safe, they immediately left and returned to sister spider’s cave.

As if something was chasing behind them, they used their fullest speed to run away. They were scared that the [ Sarangay ] might return and found them, they used all their strength to run away.
Without even resting to take a breath, they ran to the cave like mad.
They burst into sister spider’s cave and slid to the floor with their backs side-by-side, leaning against the wall.
Rain and the spider were quite nervous and they could only breathe a sigh of relief after arriving at the cave, their bodies shedding cold sweats.
After releasing a huge breath, they then looked at each other’s face and...
“...ha.”
“Ahahahaha hahahaha”
“Screeeeee!!!”
Both of them started laughing at the same time. They looked outside the cave and know straight away that the bull-man monster hadn’t returned and found them.
“Ahahaha, ah—we ran away really fast!”
Rain laughed in an exhilarated tone.
“Man, that monster is really scary.”
“Scree!”
“I know. I need to get stronger! No, I will get stronger and I will take that jewel. That thing is mine!”
Rain declared.
Seeing this, the spider could only look at him with speechless. Thankfully the spider couldn’t talk if it could it would certainly smack Rain and scold him nonstop.
Is he crazy? He knows how terrifying that monster was and yet he wanted to fight it?! Worst, he immediately declared the [ Sarangay ]’s jewel as his own?
This human really has some guts!
“But I can’t do it with only this dagger…” Rain shook his head and sigh dejectedly.
“If only I had some stronger equipment, my leveling speed would skyrocket.”
Noticing Rain’s sad expression, the spider seemed to have thought of something and immediately stand up.
Using her sharp pointed fangs, he bit the hem of Rain’s leather clothes and dragged him deeper in the cave.
At first Rain was surprised but he didn’t panicked. He had already trusted the spider that it wouldn’t hurt him so he let himself get dragged by her.
They entered a seemingly dimmed cave with a small entrance that could barely fit sister spider.
And as expected, the moment Rain saw where the spider brought him to, his jaws couldn’t help but slack and his eyes were wide as it can be.
Following that, he was frozen solid by what he saw…

“This…This is….don’t tell me… ?!”
Rain swallowed his saliva and the words that were about to come out of his mouth.
“Scree!”
“This…”
In front of him was a piled of weapons and some armor. Though some seemed to be a bit old and rusty, it was still much better than his current small dagger.
“A-are you giving this… to me?”
“Scree!”
The spider nods its head like a human. Seeing this, Rain began to tear up and started trembling.
During this whole time they were together, the spider’s intelligence clearly changed. It was as if, the more it interacted with Rain, the smarter it gets.
Although Rain seemed to not realize this fact as he just treat this change as wind passing by and continued to interact with the spider like with the other human being.
While trembling, Rain slowly walked towards the spider.
“Scree?”
“….---”
*Dong* Rain suddenly leapt towards the spider and hug its head that was as big as a basketball.
“I love you sister!!! I really love you!!!!!!”
Woo~Ga~? Rain was hugging the spider’s head tightly while twirling around and making weird whooping noises.
The spider too froze for a moment, although she was overwhelmed with the sudden burst of emotions from Rain, she quickly calmed down after feeling Rain’s masculine body.
Rain was laughing like a madman while gazing towards the small cave’s entrance seemingly viewing something that was distant.
--- ---
From just looking at the stuff, even a genius like him couldn't decide what trash is and what's worth keeping.
However, compared to his dagger, all this items was still much better. With such a carefree mood, Rain thought that he really found a treasure trove.
And a fairly large one at that.
Although he doesn’t have any appraisal-type skill that could analyze items and shows their exact details but still seeing the items in front of him. None of that mattered anymore.
He could just use and try everything.
There were; 4 Rusty iron sword. 8 Bowie knives. 1 Iron battle-axe.
3 bows. 25 Iron Tipped Arrows. 31 wooden arrows.
2 Wooden Round Shield. A Damaged Breastplate. 3 pairs of leather gloves.
13 bottles which 7 of these were containing pink colored liquid and other six contained bluish purple.
Rain knows what they are because he had already seen them in the game forum. The pink ones must be Health potions while the bluish purple should be Mana potions.
It was written that when the Health potions turned completely white or the Mana potions turned black then it means that the potions have gone bad.
If they only turned pink and bluish purple like this, then it means that they can still be used, albeit inferior to the red and blue colored ones.
However, this was still the best thing Rain could ask for at this moment. In the game’s current state, even a single
Basic Health Potion was an expensive luxury.
When going over it, Rain found treasure after treasure.
Yeah, it seems this place truly is a treasure trove.
Although he doesn’t know how the spider possesses these things but it might have been from her prey; of course human warriors.
Among the items inside the cave, what caught Rain’s attention the most wasn’t the weapons or the potions but two backpacks and one field pack.
That’s right; these three are no ordinary items. They were storage bags!
Despite its size, Storage bags are capable to carry a large amount of items with ease.
According to what he had read before, a backpack had only a dozen of cubic meters inside while a field pack possess
two dozens of cubic meters and can store double the amount that a normal back pack can.
With these, Rain believes he had acquired a true treasure.
Then Rain examined the weapons. Comparing the small dagger he had been using till now with the bowie knives, their blades were longer and their edges sharper.
The blade is single edged, and only at the tip is it double-edged, Rain suspect it's meant to be used as a hunting knife, so he took the knives.
Eight knives might be a lot, but since he doesn’t know what would happen in the future, there’s really no problem. He might use it as throwing knives in the future, if the situation became drastic.
He also took one rusty sword, a bow and the arrows, a pair of gloves and lastly the potions.
Looking at the things in his hands, a faint smile appeared on his face.
I will become strong!

Mage Among Superheroes
Turlough is a mage. He also happens to be an orc, generally lauded as being less intelligent than humans. He was unfortunately born with the Curse of the Barbarian, meaning that he can’t level up except through combat- which greatly hinders his ability to show he can be a proper mage. In a world with necromancers, dragons, invading armies, and all sorts of other monsters he would still be able to advance quickly, but unfortuantely… that world is not his world. An unprecedented peace reigns across the land, and in the last several decades there’s been little use for people capable of fighting- and thus little reason for people to fight him. So when he sees a portal in his master’s study he takes it, hoping to find a horde of demons or something equally foolish to combat at low level. But instead he ends up in a strange city full of skyscrapers and people running around in colorful outfits. Superheroes- and of course supervillains as well. What dangers and opportunities could await him in such a strange and unfamiliar world? Only time will tell. Inspired by many things in the superhero genre, and Super Minion specifically- though while the setting will share some standard elements, it is an original setting that will hopefully be as engaging as many of the other universes. Schedule: One chapter each Monday/Thursday, approx. 2000 words.

Saga of Fallen Kings, Book I: The Revenant Prince
The Philosopher King once conquered the known world, his power seemingly unlimited and his armies inexhaustible. Since that time his might has slowly unravelled, and his once steadfast empire has begun to crack, splinter and devour itself. In the isolated Southern Realms, where even magic has abandoned them, none of that matters. For years it has been filled with warring kingdoms, where as many kings die to the blade as to old age, and constant battles tear apart the land. When one such kingdom invades its old enemy, the King and his heir, Prince Caden, are killed. Unable to accept the loss of his family Prince Arian is broken, and when the Philosopher King stretches out his hand in aid, Arian takes it without a second thought. When Caden wakes from death, he's different. His eyes and soul have changed, and he finds a world filled with friends who no longer trust he's even human. Suddenly thrust onto the throne and indebted to the Philosopher King, Caden has no choice but to keep going - he must finish what his father started, and try to survive the machinations of the figure who now owns his fealty. Meanwhile something beyond death stirs for him, desiring nothing more than to drag him back into its embrace. Author's Note: This story used to be known as "A King of his Own", but after some consideration I have decided to rebrand it. The first reason is that I was growing increasingly dissatisfied with the title. The second is that I have come increasingly to view this story as a 'saga' containing multiple 'books' rather than one long, continuous publication, and as I did so I realized that as I was quickly getting to a point in the story where I wanted the first 'book' to end. This doesn't mean I'm going back on the things I said below - they're just going to continue in the next book of the Saga of Fallen Kings. :) Also, be aware that I do plan to edit this at some point. Though I take care to squash out any obvious errors when I proof-read, and do simple edits in that process, at some point I'm almost certainly going to do large edits that might significantly change parts of the story. Old author's notes: This started as a completely random writing session. There was no purpose or direction, but as I kept typing an entire world began to form in my mind that I knew I had to write about. My plan is to turn this story into a veritable medieval fantasy epic that spans an entire world, follows multiple character and storylines, and takes place over many years. The story has quite a grounded, almost 'realistic' start, but many more fantastical elements will be introduced, expanded upon and become central to the narrative. I have ideas for this story that make me genuinely excited and I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy writing it, and join me on what will hopefully become a truly massive fantasy epic. If you do enjoy this story please consider following, rating and leaving a review. I'm also happy to answer any questions or comments you have.
