《Philippine Lore》BK1; Chapter 16: [ Talents ]

After eating, Rain patted his stomach comfortably. Then, as if he had thought of something, he looked at his status.
“Status”
[Lagim]
Level: 2 35%/100%
Class: Mage
Strength: 11
Stamina: 17
Agility: 10
Mana: 15
Stat Points: 3 Skill Points: 0

- Dagger Mastery Lv1 43%/100%
- Corpse Disassembly Lv0 5%/100%
- Acrobatics Lv0 15%/100%
- Self-Regeneration Lv0 3%/100%
As expected, Rain’s stats and skill proficiency rose up a considerable amount. But this wasn’t what got his attention.
Awakened two talent—[ Acrobatic] and [ Self-Regeneration ]
……
New skills!
That’s right! He got two new skills; [ Acrobatics ] and [ Self-Regeneration ].
Rain was slightly shocked, and remembered that he had once read about awakening of individual’s talent inside the game.
[ Philippine Lore ] said that every individual has some hidden talents that was waiting to be discovered and thus, in this game of life and death, this talent would certainly bloom while facing dangerous situations.
They also said that, because [ Philippine Lore ]’s difficulty is quite high, the game system would help every player to awaken their sleeping talents to help raise their chance of survival.
But [ Philippine Lore ] also assured that although there were many different types of talents, their effects were still mediocre.
So this was my talents? I had two hidden talents?!
Rain’s talent was [ Acrobatics ] and [ Self-Regeneration ]
[ Acrobatics ]
This skill enable the user to become master aerialists and climbers who use their skills to vault across the rooftops, trees and walls with seemingly effortless grace. Acrobat skill can cause the user to climb and cling to any surface, giving them a unique way to approach both movement and combat.
Characters with acrobatic skills can also double jump, run at a fast pace, climb buildings with their hands, grapple hook up and to the sides of buildings, and glide from great heights.
In higher level, this skill can even enable the user to glide across the sky after leaping from vast heights.

[ Self-Regeneration ]
The ability to heal rapidly from any physical injury. Minor wounds such as cuts, bruises and light burns heal faster than normal. It can also help the user to recover from minor to moderate blood loss. However, critical wounds such as lost limbs, damaged nerves, and internal organs cannot be regenerated, as wounds would simply close up faster and lost organs remain lost.
At higher levels, the user can rapidly regenerate. In other words, they recreate lost or damaged tissues, organs and limbs, sometimes slowing, or even stopping, aging. This also gives them immunity to diseases and infections, undoing any unwanted symptoms, as well as provides a form of self-sustenance, forgoing the needs for oxygen and food intake.
In Max level, the ability will cause the body to cease aging as the cells are regenerating and dying in equilibrium, granting immortality.
Holy sh*t! Is this what they call … Mediocre?! If this was ‘Mediocre’ then all the skills in the world was trash!!!
What the heck is this?! Isn’t this cheat too balance breaking!?
Is this okay?!
Sadly, no one could answer Rain’s question.
What Rain didn’t realize was that, the game system only helps the user to awaken their so-called hidden talents not giving them that talent.
As for the system calling it ‘Mediocre’, of course it only refers to normal humans. How could humans have such abnormal talents? Even if they were hidden talents, they are still, after all, based in human standards.
--- ---
“Man, I never thought I could be so amazing.”
Staring at the entrance of the cave, Rain started mumbling to himself.
“Now then, what should I do now? No , scratch that, I need to become even more stronger. I need to level up!”
Renewing his resolve, Rain looked at the spider looking at him with fangs full of blood. She was staring at Rain the moment she had finished her meal.
“So that’s that sister spider. I need to go outside to leve… no, to hunt. Is that okay with you?”
Though due to the language barrier, Rain couldn’t express his needs to the spider.
She, who have had her fill of food, was surprisingly sitting calmly just like a spider before hunting. Even the rustling sound that came from her has already disappeared.

Maybe it’s because she had never seen a human before, or maybe for some different reasons Rain didn’t know, she just stared at him for a long time, making him feel a little embarrassed.
“If you could understand my words, or vice versa, at least we could reach some understanding.”
But the spider has still no reaction as it still keeps staring at him with its eight eyes.
Haa~ language barrier sure is troublesome.
Still, it wasn’t important to him, because he can only depend on the spider for now. If he can take the spider’s trust and cooperation, then without a doubt his leveling would become a walk in the park.
But right now, he needs to do something about ‘Communication’ between them. Forget about cooperation, if he couldn’t even converse with the spider he wouldn’t be able to befriend it.
If words failed then there were still gestures.
Language and gesture are highly interdependent systems that reciprocally influence each other. For example, performing a gesture when learning a word or a phrase enhances its retrieval compared to pure verbal learning.
Actually, gestures are a form of non-verbal communication that includes movements of the hands, arms, and other parts of the body.
For example; Children, they can use gesture to communicate before they have the ability to use spoken words and phrases. In this way gestures can also prepare children to learn a spoken language, creating a bridge from pre-verbal communication to speech.
And so, Rain has no choice but to use this form of non-verbal communication.
“I. Need. To. Go. Out.” Rain stressed every word as his hand pointed from his self, then to the spider and lastly to the cave’s entrance.
--- ---
Rain did this for almost half an hour until he was exhausted but the spider was still keep on staring at him making him dispirited.
Ugh, plan B failed!
Adding to the discomfort created by the awkward silence, Rain’s frivolous heart ached to do something stupid once again.
Without a choice, he walked towards the spider, patted its head and points the cave’s entrance.
“I want to go out.”
It would be a lie if Rain were to say that he wasn’t scared. He even felt like running away. What if this spider actually took it as him attacking it and become angry? Besides, is this spider really a friend? What if it just took him here to become food reserve?
But he couldn’t do anything else. If he just brazenly steps outside without the spider’s permission, he was pretty sure that it would go ballistic on him.
You still can’t understand it? Then I will drag you towards the entrance. Let’s see if you still can’t understand it!
And so, with a fed up face, Rain grabbed the spider’s front leg and started dragging it towards the light.
Haa~ I should really stop this frivolous attitude of mine.
But then, since he has already said that he was going to do it, he couldn’t very well stop now.
Who cares if I die? I’ll just start everything again from scratch~
“Sorry……if you understand what I’m saying. Then, let’s go.”
At this moment, the giant spider unexpectedly began moving on its own.
With a metallic clang, its sharp looking feet moved as she crawls at the entrance of the cave without Rain’s help while looking at him.
Rain didn’t think much of it and just let out a relieved sigh, smiled widely and quickly tried to catch up with it.
--- ---
The vegetation outside the cave was very thick, yet the number of insects was surprisingly low.
At the same time, Rain noticed that the Spider’s cave was situated at a slightly protruded piece of ground at the foot of a mountain.
The spider slowed down as he was enjoying the rare beautiful scene. Although he had no idea what it was thinking but the scene outside was really a fascinating sight for sore eyes.
Looking at the expanse of the forest, then looking towards the bountiful growth of greenery, Rain couldn’t help but be
marveled at how wonderful nature was.
This is life. This is nature. This is earth.
And so, the adventure of a man and a spider began!

Birth of an AntiHero
AntiHero's FIRST REWRITE IN THE WORKS - thanks!! :] EDIT 2/28/22 - sorry, health problems right now, but I will post after rewriting the first 80-90,000 words or so and start fresh from there! Expect the change to be uploaded before summer! So long as I can keep using my hands, that is~! ^_^ X] This story will indeed get fleshed out as my vision improves for the better. But I feel the need to emphasize that a lot of parts are written in improvised comic book format as my primary writing style, and this first book is actually the entry point and starting novel for an entire very vast series I am in the works of developing. Many side characters here will eventually be main characters with there own stories; long or short. But this one particularly will be focused and centralized around Noel. Because of this, I do plan to leave the introduction for side characters as still having a special flow for readers to witness a tad of their background, so keep that in mind after my 'obviously many' rewrites from now and going into the future! Sorry for the troubles! I will improve on my style and implementation of the story!(Although I DO plan to keep parts as 'play style' or rather, comic book style, since I find it easier for certain dialogue instances as well as the fact that the novel is inspired by that 'feeling' you get while reading comic books. But my style is still evolving, you were warned!) Thank you! - Noel Tyler Malierano. He's the youngest 'son' to receive approval from 'The Malierano Family': A Criminal Organization of hitmen and hitwomen that specialize in killing, even maintaining success within a vastly superpowered society. Noel finally manages to complete his training as the newest 'Elite' killer his family created...but, there's just one problem - He doesn't want to kill! Come along and delve into a society of conflicting morals through the eyes of a boy, desperately searching for a new path to follow. Can he even manage to free himself from his father's engrained teachings and ideals? Conversely, will killing prove a lot more difficult to ignore? --- --> Thank you very much for reading! It would be helpful for me if you all consider leaving me a comment or an inbox suggestion, a review or even a full rating wherever AND whenever you believe I need to improve on anything or if something I wrote irked you! I appreciate EVERYONE that comes to read my story, however I DO want to improve my work as a writer. I hope all of you who don't like my work will let me know somehow, so I can edit and IMPROVE my story as a whole! Thank you everyone for your time! --- JUST TO NOTE!! When a character has a cultural name like, say, a Japanese or Russian name, that is because that character IS Japanese or Russian! They don't have to be FULL of one ethnicity either - sometimes they will be mixed. This story mainly takes place on an artificial continent where all countries have sent over their respective talents, meaning characters of ALL cultures and ethnic backgrounds will show hints of that in their names. Please don't assume I'm just randomly naming characters names that don't match them. And feel free to talk to me about whatever in my story troubles you - no matter how small! I love to improve. ^-^ X] --- Just to note: Characters will slowly grow as time passes. Slow pace. THANKS for reading! Enjoy! :] --- Decided to post 2 chapters every Tuesday and Friday instead of taking a small break, but I MAY upload once in a while on different days, such as Sundays, in addition to those two. :]
