No! Be optimistic! At least, the fact that I'm alive is already fortunate.
The worst that could happen is that he would lose his life and wait another day to log in again.
--- But it seems like right now it is far from the worst.
Rain was trying to calm himself down but, it was only inevitable to fall into a depressed state.
Encouraging his heart that wanted to curl up, he reared himself to look around at his surroundings once again.
Scree.
Then that sound rang out again. This time it was closer.
Just what is happening?
He was afraid. Who wouldn’t?
First was the horrible stench. It was impossible for a human to emit such smell unless they had an intention to.
Next was the creepy rustling sound. It didn’t sound like someone was out there making the sound but it sounded like it was from his surroundings. Furthermore, as long as you were a human, your footsteps would make sound.
With sound in mind, Rain also didn’t hear any door opening. This means that he was in an open area, and not in an enclosed space.
I’m a genius at reasoning! I think I can be compared to the high-school detective who was reduced to a kid now.
Still, what’s the point of knowing this stuff?
Furthermore, based on this knowledge, didn’t the possibility of the opponent being not a human become higher?
Still, not being in an enclosed space was beneficial to him. As long as he could get these ropes off, he had a chance to escape.
Ugh, I should just save my brain power. Maybe I can use it later?
Suddenly, as if it heard his thoughts, the creepy sound once again assaulted his ears.
At this moment, fear suddenly surged inside his heart, because he felt something sharp tracing at the side of his head.
However, Rain suddenly noticed that the place where the sharp thing was located didn’t feel painful at all.
And then, another good thing happened—— He saw a light!
Right! The sunlight!
God said let there be light, and so there was light.

Hoho, I love you my sunlight. Please don’t ever leave me again!
The sunlight was so strong that it made him dizzy for a moment. Even though he may be an idiot, he was not blind!
Thank the heavens; his eyes were properly executing their duties!
Then he looked at his body and was surprised. He was floating one meter from the ground--- Correction, he wasn’t floating.
Something was wrapping his waist and arms. This something was quite sticky and was hanging from the ceiling.
Then Rain confirmed his surroundings once again, and found out that he was in a cave. It’s quite wide. Below his body, a rough but still traversable floor exists.
Around him was full of familiar looking thread like thingies--- seeing these things, a suspicion formed inside his mind.
That can’t be … right?
Most of the things around him were the skins of animals that he didn’t recognize. Also, most of them were either brown or black in color.
Looking at the side, he saw a cocoon-like object. From inside the cocoon, he could see something familiar.
---The Big Bad Wolf.
It was certainly the Big Bad Wolf he managed to kill. Then…
As if answering his guess, a ‘Scree’ sound rang out above him.
A very familiar looking giant spider was hanging down and was looking down at him with its eight eyes in close range.
Isn’t this my old friend, Miss Spider?
“Hi…?”
Screee.
Now, Rain finally figured out everything. Apparently he was brought into the Arachne’s nest.
--- ---
“Miss Spider, wait, let’s call you Sister Spider to be more intimate…… why am I in this situation? I thought that we had already formed a closer connection with each other after fighting that selfish, evil, hateful, ugly and traitorous Big Bad Wolf together. Aren’t we friends?”
Rain immediately appealed by badmouthing the wolf. As they say, ‘The enemy of your enemy is your friend.’ So following that amazing logic, aren’t we friends?
“That wolf really deserved to die. He’s too selfish and evil. Haa! He got what he deserved.”
Rain had already forgotten that he tried escaping by leaving the injured spider after the battle.

“Wow, you’re looking good Sister spider. You have become quite … Uhm, sexy, right.” Seeing that the giant spider was just quietly looking at him without letting any sound, Rain changed his strategy from ‘Badmouthing a common enemy’ to ‘Flattering’
But, there was still no reaction from the spider.
“Uum… Hello.”
Seeing the spider’s lack of reaction, Rain became dispirited and became a half-dead man. Not talking anymore as he could only sigh … Haaa~ such misfortune.
Sister spider didn’t utter a single sound as it quietly became a spider who had tied up a half-dead man.
The animal fur underneath him on the floor didn’t utter a single word.
The warm sun shining down on him didn’t utter a single word.
An unending dripping noise from somewhere was the sound of water.
Thus, silence still persevered between them.
--- ---
Hanging for almost half an hour, Rain couldn’t endure the silence anymore. He wriggled his waist towards the spider, hoping it could be magnanimous as to untie him.
“Friend, untie me please. I’m really not going anywhere … please…”
Rain started pleading like a little child. Coupled with his sincere eyes, it was a perfect plan.
Hearing Rain’s pleas, sister spider once again looked at him. The spider’s eight eyes staring directly at him were giving him a slight creepy feeling.
Then as if sister spider looked like she had thought of something, its eight eyes looked at his stomach.
Seeing this, Rain couldn’t help but rejoiced inwardly. Is she going to release me now? Come on, sister spider is really smart isn’t she? How lovable~
However to his disappointment, the giant spider turned around and left. After a while, it returned, bringing two pieces of raw meat and threw it towards him.
Sister spider, do you think I could eat that?
Although Rain wasn’t a picky eater, after looking at the bloody pieces of raw meat, he couldn’t even muster up one teeny bit of appetite.
“No, no, my beautiful sister spider. I’m not hungry. What I want you to do was to release me, okay! R.E.L.E.A.S.E. me.”
“Screee”
“Scree…ee?”
Rain blindly repeated its words. No, he didn’t do that deliberately. But for some reason, he just wanted to.
“Screee!”
“Scree…e?”
They repeated it. Rain couldn’t but smiled mischievously. This seems fun!
However, sister spider seemed like it didn’t like it as it suddenly bared its sharp pointed fangs at him.
Spiders differ from insects in a variety of ways. Insects, for one, can chew, courtesy of their mandibles. Spiders lack mandibles for chewing. They make up for that with their chelicerae -- jaws with sharp edges, their mouthparts. They have a mouth part shaped like a short drinking straw that they use to suck up the liquefied insides of their prey.
Seeing the spider’s reaction, Rain’s body trembled like a sieve being shaken. He could literally feel the chills going down his spine.
Sister spider, you’re so serious.
The giant spider saw that Rain was now obedient so it extended its sharp front feet and slowly cut the thread wrapping Rain’s body.
Rain was overjoyed. After being freed, he immediately stretches his hands and feet.
Currently he had two choices. Either run and escape, or……just surrender quietly to the monster in exchange for its trust.
Without hesitation, Rain chose the latter. He perfectly knows he wasn’t a match against the spider, so like an obedient child; Rain sat in the ground comfortably and sent a smile to the spider, as if it was natural.
He then grabs the raw meat in front of him. It felt kinda slippery, yet it wasn’t cold. Most importantly, it smelled horrible.
So, Rain casted a small fire.
Seeing the fire, the spider started began to act vigilant so Rain had no choice but to send another smile towards the spider and gestured that he wasn’t going to do anything bad.
Cooking the meat took him three to four minutes. When he tried eating it …. Yeah, it was bland.
He didn’t taste anything. Well, as long he could eat then all is good. Taste doesn’t matter~

Shrike
He wants to play the latest and greatest VRMMORPG game, but he can't muster up the cash for the fancy new proprietary hardware and membership license. After months of saving up cash and arduous work, he has built a behemoth of a machine relying almost entirely on seedy old technology and a DIY guide by some dude named "Jimmy Bob." This is the story of his entry into the game. This is also a story of intrigue, exploration, introspection, batshit crazy game design, and unintended but entirely predictable consequences. This is G.C.O. Undergoing a total re-write, mostly because I think things were too rushed rather than any content or direction changes. If you are one of the few who tried Shrike when it was briefly updating, consider giving it another shot. Of no relation to either The Great Crusade or the recent (in 2017 lol) Shrike book for Warhammer by Games Workshop. All similarities in these cases are superficial; please don't sue me. Feedback welcome and encouraged, never be afraid to review or comment. HQ/Kindle-Grade cover art. Book Cover 2.0: "From the Dark"
