《Flame-Eyed Immortal》Chapter 48

Boom!
The wave crashed down onto Rauf who had already retreated behind the 400 meter mark. Although it wouldn’t prevent the wave from hitting him, he noticed that there was no lake bed after the 400 meter mark. Thus he moved back to have a proper footing against the wave.
As the wave slammed into Rauf with the power many times greater than the Little Light Rock he was picked up by the wave and sucked under the current. It was impossible for him to hold himself against a wave over 10 meters high. All of Pathwalkers were only Low Opal stages, this was simply the weakest existence as a Pathwalker. The strength of the wave still held unimaginable force as it collided into all of the Pathwalkers sweeping them up as well. Owen was included, but he didn’t try to resist instead he tried to swim with the wave, to go along with the power. His goal wasn’t to pass the 400 meter point at this time, his goal was to see watch what would happen to Rauf.
The ice cold Essence came right after throwing Rauf underneath the water, but Rauf continued to hold his flow of Essence against the invading ice Essence. At first it looked like Rauf was holding his own, but soon after the ice started to appear at the weaker points of Rauf’s shield. With a weakness exploited, the ice was able to grow a considerable rate. Soon even Rauf was unable to hold back the ice and it fully covered his body. His final moments didn’t hold any regret. But he definitely wasn’t smiling in the end. Rauf only closed his eyes and wore an expression of pain as the ice completely froze his body.
In the end Owen continued to follow the frozen Rauf as the wave soon calmed down leaving only Rauf frozen sticking out of the water’s surface. He was seen by everyone, his last moments as he stood against the most powerful wave all by himself. All the Pathwalkers were inwardly happy that they someone else had been sacrificed, but they didn’t wish to be seen as those type of people who find joy in someone else’s death. They could only move back to the 400 meter mark. Now that someone had already taken on the 100 meter mark wave it was only weak waves from here on out. As they all continued to rush towards the final goal. The ice pillar! On the other hand Owen continued to watch the ice sculpture.

“Damn, first it was Lord Sun Dragon’s disciple who ruined the Desire test, and now it’s the Rebirth Snake’s disciple who ruined it by sleeping! By sleeping! Who the hell sleeps during a test that can take their lives! The worst part is that god damn boy won’t even die because he will just heal if his body is intact! This is a disaster what are you guys going to do about this!”
The White Tiger wasn’t able to hold in his rage any longer as he looked at the three others, who looked like they were on a picnic. Osena was carefully pouring tea for Kovinth, while Kovinth was nodding everytime Owen did something worthy of praise. The Rebirth snake didn’t pay attention until the 400 meter mark when she instinctively felt that Rauf was in danger. But when she saw that it was only the ice Essence she went back to sleep like it wasn’t worthy of her attention.
Being ignored the White Tiger Lord was losing his mind. He then promised himself that after this test that both Rauf and Owen were going to be thrown out and never allowed to re enter the outer Pavilion. Not that anyone would want to move backwards when the goal was moving inwards. However for these two, new rules would have to be made.
------------------
As Owen noticed that the impure Essence within Rauf to continue to flow. Owen knew that Rauf hadn’t died even though he was frozen. Because for all the others, they had lost their impure colour and turned into the blue colour of Ocean Essence. For Ruaf his impure colourful essence was only flowing a bit slower nothing else had changed about it though.
‘Should I break this open? I don’t know what will happen if I do….. Well Rauf should understand right?’

As Owen was thinking he had already swung his hand into the ice. His fist collided with the ice, and when it did Owen could feel the sheer amount of cold. The ice started to run up his own arm trying to freeze it as well, but Owen already had his arm protected with his Essence and he pressed slammed his fist into the ice again. This time the ice cracked just a tiny bit, but shattered into millions of pieces turning into a cold moist mist leaving only Rauf slipping into the water.
Owen caught onto Rauf, and threw some water onto his face to wake him up.
“Hmm… no mom just a little longer.”
Owen smirked.
‘Always at his own pace. Oh maybe I shouldn’t be talking either. Oh well.’
This time Owen smacked him across the face and Rauf immediately stood up.
“Ouch! What was.. Huh…. oh right. Am I dead?”
Rauf looked to Owen for confirmation. Owen rolled his eyes under his eyelids and answered with his usual calm attitude.
“Would I join you in the afterlife?”
“Yeah, because obviously you’re a good friend.”
Owen shrugged and walked towards the ice pillar.
‘Although the difficulty is still going to be higher, the worst has already passed. It’s time to finish this!’

The Girl from the Mountain
Alexandra Bedford is a weapon, a young woman with telekinetic powers capable of leveling entire cities, born to fight in the desolate remains of post-apocalyptic North America. There is only one problem: she may be losing control of her abilities. Sixteen years after a global pandemic devastated the earth’s population, the lines in the old United States have been drawn between the Cheyenne Directorate in Colorado and the New England Alliance on the East Coast. The Directorate, of which Alexandra is a part, is a small but powerful organization dedicated to returning the country to its former glory. However, when a diplomatic mission to the New England Alliance goes wrong, Alexandra finds herself at the center of a bloody civil war. Battles are fought on the old highways and in dilapidated towns and once-great cities. And as the conflict escalates, all of North America faces the threat of being burnt away by nuclear fire. Against this backdrop of war, Alexandra tries to uncover the long-hidden secrets behind the plague, her abilities, and the two men fighting to decide the fate of the United States - Henry Bedford, Alexandra's father and leader of the Directorate, and John Martin, the mysterious figure at the heart of the New England Alliance who may hold the key to everything she seeks. None of this will matter, however, unless Alexandra can prevent the power growing inside her from taking over and consuming the very world she is fighting to save. Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!
