《Flame-Eyed Immortal》Chapter 21

Hey guys for the next 3 days I have finals (yes each day I have a final) so there may not even be a single chapter in those days. Anyways I have some explanations for this chapter at the bottom so if you're confused about how I rank Devourers take a look at that.
P.S I know this is a rant but seriously when people rate a story .5 star without even writing a comment or because they simply don't like it, its really frustrating. I don't see how a story possibly can be rated .5 stars unless its a troll story. *Shrugs* if something is wrong with my story please inform me, I can't improve if you just rate and walk away. It might not seem like we, as authors, care about our stories but you can be sure that we want people to like the stories we write and we post them here so that we can improve them. Anyways thanks for following so far and I hope you guys continue to enjoy this unique take on Xianxia's

When Owen arrived back at the cave, the first thing Kovinth did give him a slight nod. Once again Kovinth had watched patiently after his student. Life and death experiences were the only way for one to truly grow, and after this fight alone Owen’s comprehension and strength would increase dramatically.
Although it pained Kovinth to see his disciple get injured this did not outweigh his wish for his disciple to become strong. Thus Kovinth did what was most important, and gave him a place to return to. A place that Owen could come back and have his wounds restored the next day. Especially someone like Kovinth who had an immense amount of knowledge in the medical field. With this alone Owen was knocked out by Kovinth’s medicinal drugs as he worked to restore his arm to perfect functionality. Although Kovinth knew Owen was someone who could withstand pain from being able to withstand the Essence from the Solar Eyes technique he still didn’t want to force him to undergo the pain when he didn’t have too.

The Solar Eyes technique was important because the user had to actually feel the changes within his eyes to be able to use them successfully later. If one was unconscious their eyes would forever become lightbulbs in the darkness. Not to mention that the user would forever lose the ability to train in the future, as they wouldn’t be able to successfully control the leakage of Essence from their eyes.
After Kovinth successfully finished treatment he teleported and grabbed the carcass of the Devourer bringing it back to the cavern. He pulled out a walnut sized gem from the cranium of the cougar and nodded.
“This is a decent Devourer, it even managed to just reach the peak of an Omega Devourer. Although this is still considered the weakest, for it to be this strong in a week still shows its potential.”
Kovinth muttered softly as he twirled the gem around. It was dyed with different colours forming a combination of colours. But he knew that the bigger discrepancy in colours meant the more impure it was. Only when it was either pure Red, Green, or Blue would it truly become an Alpha ranked Devourer. The different colours represented the type of Essence they naturally absorbed from the world. Blue being Ocean Devourers, Green being Land Devourers and finally Red being Sky Devourers. This was just a simple classification, as because at the early stage when Devourers were still evolving they would end up eating many types of these beasts. Only when they decided on a set path at the Beta stage would they continue to eat only one type of these three.
After speaking he finally put away the gem and continued to prepare the beast for dinner. After all his student would be awfully hungry when he woke up.

“Urgh.”
Owen slowly opened his eyes, and although this time there wasn’t his master beside him just a dish of food and a gem beside him. Owen looked at the colourful gem and mumbled under his breath.
“This must be the Essence crystal.”
As soon as he said that a slight gust of wind arose and Kovinth suddenly appeared and spoke.
“That’s right. It’s a good opportunity as you were just asking about ranks about this world. You will absorb this by channeling your Essence into it. It can only be said that then you will have finally stepped on the Path.”
Owen couldn’t help but be slightly surprised. He thought that just by absorbing Essence he would already be on the Path but he was clearly wrong. Knowing fully well what Owen was thinking Kovinth explained.
“Only when you make the Path will you have stepped onto the Path, my ignorant student.”
Owen wanted to retort, as he clearly wouldn’t have known this because Kovinth didn’t tell him. But because he knew the personality of his teach he wasn’t worried.
“Will Master please teach me.”
Kovinth gave a smug look of victory and Owen could only roll his eyes and pretend he didn’t see it. Knowing that Kovinth got a one up on Owen he contently continued.
“Let’s start with beasts. The rankings for beasts are Omega, Beta-Omega, Beta, Alpha-Beta, and finally Alpha. This also represents the number boundaries that you have to successfully pass through in order to reach the center of the continent. As such there is 5 Boundaries to pass, but if you include the ocean as one as well there is 6. But forget that for a bit. Look at the gem here.”
Owen eyes followed Kovinth’s hand as it picked up the gem. He didn’t waste anymore time and continued explaining.
“This is a peak Omega Essence crystal. Although the finer details are harder to tell, you can tell ranks by their colours of Essence wrapping around the animal. Omegas are mixed randomly and have so set colour. Beta-Omegas are thicker and have some small stripes of one colour. Beta’s are rainbow in colour. Alpha-Betas are either fully Cyan, Magenta or Yellow. As for the Alphas they are Red, Blue or Green. These final colours represent their lifestyle as they will either live in the sky, ocean and land respectively.”
“But master, I won’t be able to see them when I go blind again how I will be able to tell?”
Owen was curious after although he had seen all these colours Kovinth had explain over the course of the week, he would soon be blind again how would he be able to tell? Kovinth couldn’t help but smirk as if this was his intention all along.
“And this is why I explained about Devourer’s ranks first now listen up!”

Ranking
so if you're curious about the assorted colours it comes from the RGB colour system. Yes there are others however I chose RGB because it fits with Land and Ocean, and Sky more than let's say yellow would. As for the Omega this is taken from the idea of animal pack authority. Some of you might ask the question, well what bout white and black? Well stay tuned :D
Red=Sky
Blue=Ocean
Green=Land

Journey Towards Dao
What is infinite, possessing no beginning nor end? What is imperceptible, appearing both indistinct yet intelligible? What is indecipherable, unable to be interpreted or understood? What is quintessential, unfathomable, eternal? What is Dao? The main focus of this story is detailed cultivation, professions, and combat systems. It's a slice-of-life with a cultivation system that delves into psychological aspects (including minor psychopathic/sociopathic elements). Protagonist is the low-key sort. Be prepared for a slower start. This is my first ever experience writing fiction. I'm trying my best to put out quality content initially, but my main goal is to improve. Comments, ratings, and reviews are greatly appreciated!

Magician's Pact
A young boy with a special key finds himself caught up with an old wizard, an ancient prohpecy, and a possibly conspercy. This sounds like the sort of thing most childern would love to be a part of, but there are just three small problems. The first is that he is not the hero. Someone already got that role. The second is that he isn't a wizard. He is a Magician which complicates things. The third is that there might be a chance that the whole 'problem' might be comming from his end. Personally he never understood (or interacted with) the 'secret' magical world, but that becomes a problem when the magical world apparently has what his role is supposed to be according to their ancient book... and they are not to happy about him not matching their book. Still it shouldn't be to hard right? All he has to do is go to a school, learn some wizard magic, make sure nobody takes his key... also avoid dying. Thankfully he has had a lot of expereince with that last part and a bunch of Twig Twirling childern can't be too dangerious? Right?
