V2 Chapter 140
Paryel’s duty was protecting Laran and Dave in the rear, as the two of them supported the ones in the front.
Without hesitation, Laran and Dave began chanting an incantation. Both their wand and staff emitted light as magic coursed through them.
Shoo~ Shoo~
Aerean now had her longbow, her dark eyes narrowing dangerously as she locked on the more dangerous looking monster to support the group. She entered a focused state to use Rapid Shot, an Archery Class Skill. Needless to say, she was extremely accurate.
Every arrow hit a monster, wounding them fatally or killing them instantly by targeting their heads. The magic weapon; Wind Penetrating Longbow’s power and penetrating ability in her hand was much better than any other bow that Cian had seen. Any arrow he fired would penetrate in deeply, causing a serious wound.
As expected of the elite group of one of the Strongest Clans in the Icegrass City—their magical weapons are the real deal. Cian looked at Aerean shoot out a ridiculous amount of arrows in a mere second, and she was as accurate as Hayha the White Death.
Then, another kind of beast joined the fight.
Ground Lizards.
Once they clashed, Cian felt that this monster was much stronger than the Reaper Wolves, but they weren’t as agile.
Their attacks were sluggish and didn’t chain together well.
Having selected a target, his black sword thrust forward. Cian didn’t have any problems. However, Levelia and the others were starting to get serious. Ground Lizards might be a bit weak in speed. However, their skin was not only thick but also very hard.
Laran also selected his target, releasing magical attacks made out of flames. Dave continued to chant some strengthening and boosting effect magic, as well as timely heal. He was truly an impressive veteran priest. As for Paryel, he attacks like an incredible protector, his kill number was not much lesser than Levelia, and Cian—though, Aerean with her amazing skills, was leading the most.
Nevertheless, for Cian, actually the most dazzling, and the one that made him quite surprised, was the bearman; Bramble.
His style was simple and brainless. He charged forwards a group of monsters without fear, performing a barbaric tackle. His high and tank-like build, caused both sides to simultaneously step back. He then immediately pounced forwards, like a fierce tiger, he moves like a freaking berserker.
Although rough, it was also skillful. It made Cian blink his eyes in admiration. He was a natural at taking damage, extremely courageous, and imposing; he really wasn’t simple.
Bramble would send forth powerful attacks and use amazing killing skills, not caring about the life or death of those around him. His blade hacked, slashed, and chopped at the three monsters around him. Then he began spinning like a big windmill, throwing the battlefield into even messier.
The monsters who were hit by this attack began spraying out green blood all over the place. He then turned and performed a heavy strike on the one that had been attacked by Cian, slaying it.
“This group has some good composition,” Cian mused. Then, as graceful as a butterfly, he evaded a tail sweep from the only B ranking Monster; the Red Crown Dragon Serpent while occasionally striking back. Although most of the members of the Flame Tyrant Clan were both veterans, Cian’s style of placing himself in danger to search for opportunities was different from theirs.
Most warriors would try to make distance or try to take the initiative to charge like an angry bull to overpower the enemy, but Cian’s style has charm in itself.

He moved through the battlefield as if he was walking in his own backyard, and his sword was like a viper, appearing and disappearing all over the place.
Watching him move and attack, even Levelia and the others who had seen many powerful warriors before, couldn’t help but get dazzled. It was like watching a dance, Cian moved almost effortlessly, and the moment he swung his blade, either a monster gets killed, or a monster was fatally injured, making it easy for the others to land the killing blow.
There was no inconsistency, no awkwardness even though this was basically their very first fight together, no out-of-tune, he was able to assimilate with the others so perfectly it was frightening…
He basically didn’t make anything that would disturb others' fight. Paryel and Laran, if they barely accepted him before, now, they couldn’t help but accepted him wholeheartedly. He was truly a terrifying swordsman…!
Age is not a problem for him…!
In fact, he was even more terrifyingly skillful than most veteran warriors and elite soldiers out there!
Just who was he…?
This kind of question reappeared inside their minds. However, such a question is fated to be kept inside their mind and cannot be voiced out. People have secrets… especially those who came into a God-forsaken land like the Winter Mountain.
“Haaaaah!!” Levelia roared and slash her spear clad in fiery light.
The flames flowing along the spear made short work of any monster that appeared in her way. And then, with a twirl of the spear, she would easily swat another beast that pounced at her like some sort of shield.
Using his superior senses, Cian would suddenly appear beside her, support her so that she wouldn’t be surrounded and then finished those who she had let off. She was like his shadow, perfectly coordinating Levelia’s fight. No one was able to notice this because they were busy fighting, but Aerean who had a good battle awareness with her good position was able to notice this small detail.
Cian’s area of combat… is all around Levelia.
It’s as if, he was protecting her or something…
Don’t tell me… they are really in a relationship…? But just when? Aerean had been with Levelia for a long time. But she had never Cian before, nor did Levelia even mention anything about him.
Even if they are not as close as able to share such intimate secrets, they were still comrades that had fought for a long time. They all thought that Cian was a stranger to bring up the numbers. But that doesn’t seem to be the case…
Aerean stared at Cian’s ghastly figure that seemed to be dancing in the battlefield.
This mysterious youth…just who was he…?
One of the Scythe Mantises raised up its right scythe when it saw Cian, but he just dodged its attack calmly and then sent a kick flying toward its right leg. As its left leg was broken under the might of his kick, the Scythe Mantis lost its balance and fell to the ground.
Cian, without pause followed by an axe kick, descending onto its head, a nice crunchy sound resounded. It’s head burst apart—how could it possibly endure Cian’s strength which was above that of Bramble, a Barbarian Bear Clan…?
“They are indeed far too many…” Cian frowned as his gaze roamed around.
Although the members of the Flame Tyrant Clan is indeed impressive and powerful, the numbers had exceeded what they could cope with. They were desperately making an opening to run, however, that bastard Red Crown Dragon Serpent was quite intelligent as it stayed in the rear, and guarded any possible escape route.

It attacks those who tried to breakthrough—if Cian was able to use all his power, then there would be no problem, as he was confident in dealing with the likes of the Red Crown Dragon Serpent. But Cian didn’t like to show too much to other people—it would have been better if it’s Levelia, but the others…? No way…
Then, what could he do then…?
While pondering on what to do, another group of monsters rushed in his direction. Matching the timing of the leopard-like beast as it lifted up its blade-like claws, Cian turned his body counterclockwise 90 degrees, barely dodging its attack. Then, he cut off its arm with his black sword. Then as his body swung back into place, he lopped off its head, causing a spurt of blood to paint his entire surrounding.
Hiss!
Rumble!
The ground started shaking. Everyone's attention was withdrawn from their own battles. That humongous Red Crown Dragon Serpent had finally lost its patience.
As it flicked its forked tongue, its lantern-sized eyes were glittering with emotions.
Malevolence and killing intent were welling up in this large serpent's eyes.
Each member of the Flame Tyrant Clan tensed up and let out battle cries.
“Go away!!!” Bramble who was much closer than the Red Crown Dragon Serpent let out a shout. He propelled himself into the sky, and his big and heavy body seemed like a meteor that fell and his the blade of his machete gleamed ominously.
Buzz!
Bramble might be one of those so-called muscle brains, but he was never one who gambled with his life. He did not dare to be careless while facing this large serpent. He was using all of his strength in this attack. As a wave of true energy surged out from his body, a countless amount of blade light started falling from the sky toward the Red Crown Dragon Serpent.
The enormous serpent’s eyes shone with malevolence. Anyone who attempted to go against it… must die!
The red scales all over the Red Crow Dragon Serpent’s body were emanating a chilling light.
With a swing of its gigantic tail, it managed to block all of the falling blade lights without receiving a single injury.
"It's so hard?!" Ramble’s eyes immediately widened.
“Tsk! Bramble! Retreat!” Levelia’s voice echoed.
Bramble immediately evaded an attack and then jumped back. Despite his large build, he was actually quite nimble.
"All right, come over here!"
"We'll be your opponents!"
Cian’s One-Handed Slender Sword and Paryel’s Two-Handed Sword were raised up and they shouted facing it from the front. Both of them appeared in front of the Red Crown Dragon Serpent and used their swords to receive the strikes and parry them.
Whenever the Serpent swayed its head, near the ground, Bramble would appear, clenched his fist and deliver a powerful punch that even its scales rigged. His movements were fluid as if he was used to it.
The lethal weapon a Beast Man could boast of is his entire body.
Plainly speaking, the beastkins are super cheats in regards to their basic specs compared to other races, even compared to demons or the famous elves. Beastkins have the greater physical ability, sharper senses, and better reflexes.
They are like beasts, but with the intelligence of a human. Though, most cannot be compared to humanity's wisdom which was said to be among the highest, still their primal attributes compensate that.
Bramble's kicks and punches, although he seemed to start using throws, it's quite fierce.
To be able to throw such a giant serpent is something that would probably only happen in games, although there might be some martial artists back in the previous world who can do it in real. Still, the monster was deserving of its rank—it was not an easy opponent, that even though Cian and the others had attacked relentlessly, it was not able to push back even a meter.
As expected of a B rank monster, it won't sell itself at such a low price
"Mages! Now!"
Channeled magic was released with Levelia’s shout and hit the Dragon Serpent. Bramble retracted immediately, as someone on rear guard position Aerean had a good view on the entire battle.
"Dave, recovery please."
"Yes, here. While at it I'll re-cast the enchant and buff."
Close Combatants like Bramble and Paryel’s fighting style was proximity fighting. And as such, since the body itself is the weapon, they receive a small amount of damage when they attack. While there were, tough armors, fist protectors, gauntlets, as well as foot protection, boots, and sandals. There were many ways devised, it couldn't be completely nullified. Thus, Dave took the role of the person responsible for recovery and boost.
However, when the golden light dawned upon Cian, his eyes suddenly widened and staggered backward, his face pale and he vomited blood.
Shit!
Baaaaang!!
Because of what happened, Cian was unable to react, and the massive tail of the Red Crown Dragon Serpent struck his chest. Cian was sent flying away. He was flung into the air, sent flying in a parabola with a resounding hit. It was a critical hit—
“NOOOOO!!!! CIAN!!” Cian can hear Levelia’s panicking voice but he was not in the mood to care for it. Damn it!! The priest healing magic actually dealt tremendous damage on him, even more than the Red Crown Dragon Serpent!
Cian had forgotten his race—a Demon Race, whose existence opposes the power of light!
Fortunately, Cian was a bit closer than the Red Crown Dragon Serpent that, in the other people’s eyes; he seemed to stagger a bit, late to react and was blown away by the Dragon Serpent. Hence, they failed to notice the demon horn appeared at the side of his face and the color of his hair reverted back to normal.
Cian spat out a mouthful of blood.
“Cian, you—?!”
Cian’s heard a voice and his eyes widened in shock.
There, Levelia’s face turned pale as she looks at Cian—
“You, you’re an elf?!”
What?! Cian’s eyes widened slightly—ah…! Cian was confused by her reaction, but then suddenly he noticed—yeah, he reverted to his original appearance. However, because Cian was covered in dust and dirt, with some leaves and branches stuck on his hair, and he was facing Levelia with a side face, she was unable to see the small curved horn on the side of his head.
In the first place, due to his mixed blood, Cian was almost similar to that of an Elf, rather than a Demon. If not for the small horn on his head, he wasn't any different than a normal elf. Cian, feeling it fortunate, hurriedly invoked his illusion spell and hide the horn on his head, and turned towards Levelia with a wry smile; “Leve, I… I can explain…” He muttered with a weak voice.
The damage he received from the light heal was far more than the pain dealt by the Red Crown Dragon Serpent on his physical body. What a dogshit misfortune!
“No! Don’t speak!” Levelia cried out.
Cian’s face sunk…is she angry? However, he misunderstood. He saw Levelia rushing towards his side with an extremely worried expression, and hurriedly help him.
“No need to,” she smiled gently. “Th, this is not the time for it… and be, besides… I can understand why you are hiding your real appearance. Your eyes… is a taboo, isn’t it? But, but I don’t care! I don’t really care!” she said as she caressed his face with her thumb. “I don’t mind something like that…”
Cian’s brows furrowed but then he was suddenly enlightened—what? Is she misunderstanding about his eyes…?
Well, heterochromatic eyes had always been strange though…
And furthermore, were the mainlanders, even Elves thought his eyes as a taboo…?!
“Stay here, let me call Dave…!” She hurriedly turned around and was about to leave to call Dave, but Cian immediately grabbed her hand.
“No!” he cried out. Bullshit! If she calls Dave and let him heal him, isn’t that the same as trying to kill him?! “I’m, I’m fine!”
“What are you talking about!!? Look at yourself! You’re gravely wounded! I’ll call Dave!”
“Please, it’s not necessary. I, I have some potion with me. They are enough….” Cian smiled bitterly and hurriedly withdraw a recovering potion from his storage ring. Levelia already knows about the existence of the ring from way back in the guild, so she really didn’t care about it. But she was still a bit hesitant… is a potion enough?
However, as she looks at the potion, it was deep red, meaning it was a high-level potion.
That’s expensive…!
Cian didn’t wait for her to say anything and immediately drunk the potion, causing his inside to feel warmth surging every part of his body. His painful groans were replaced by a comfortable moan.
Damn it! Isn’t this an accidental casualty?! Being shot by an arrow from a friendly is a really uncomfortable matter. When Cian recovered slightly, his appearance immediately changed, and even his air returned back into a black color along with his eyes.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” Cian nodded with a warm smile.

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016.
