Volume 2 Chapter 23
If it is the Musician of Death, there is only one person they could think of. A Great Demon who had once terrified the entire Continent, the mysterious Demon Bard; Alfonso Greatright, one of the legendary Demon Generals existed four hundred years ago. His music was said to have the power to cause a great destruction with just a note, charm hundreds of people with a single music and can cause even a True Dragon to be controlled.
“Hamelin’s Flute, an item of entertainment which can heal the injuries physically, emotionally and spiritually by playing it and charm people with its graceful and elegant music. Experts of the Musical Magic System can use this flute to send out a critical sound of destructions and cause terrifying powers that mirror those who play it. In the past, the Musician of Death used this flute to save his people and raise the morals of his subordinates by killing his enemies invisibly, saving the group from total destruction.”
Elder Soma summarized the item’s history and legend.
Cian was almost fully stunned. Hamelin’s Flute? Ain’t that a very familiar name…? However, a flute… although I had seen many kinds of musical instruments here but not one had satisfied my standards. He thought that he should be able to find some in the Human World but seems like he doesn’t need to do that anymore. He stared at the beautiful flute that seemed to be engraved with coiling vines and leaves as an ornament. It wasn’t jade nor made of plastic, but seemingly made from wood. But it wasn’t a typical normal wood either as using his [ Night’s Eye ] he can see a dense magical energy covering it.
Hamelin’s Flute: A Musical Instrument that mirrors the user’s feelings and emotions and creates different and various magic effect.
A simple line but possesses a very interesting ability. Although he wasn’t fond of flute but it doesn’t mean he can’t play it, only a little bit. At least can be considered amateurish but he can study to become better. In the previous life, he had practiced many musical instruments due to his profession that is necessary for him to disguise himself as anyone possible. However, he was better in violin and piano than a flute. Too bad, asking for a piano and violin in this world is already too much. Probably, if he has the time in the future, he might introduce it into the world.
But not right now. It’s not the time for a peaceful and tranquil life of happiness.
“One Million and sixty thousand!!”
“One Million and seventy thousand!”
“Two Million and twenty thousand!”
Shouts incessantly rang out within the auction.
The Hamelin’s Flute was a precious item that came from the Musician of Death and not only was it a sacred item for those that trained in the Musical Magic System, it was also valuable as a collectible. Seeing that the price easily exceeded two hundred thousand, a frown surfaced on Cian’s face. However, he still didn’t issue his bid as he continued watching the bidding war and see where it ends. He would then consider whether he should get it or not.
“Three Million and Five hundred thousand!” A cold woman’s voice sounded from a certain Esteemed Guest Stand and increased the price by a whopping over one million in an instant.

The crowd fell silent and many people glanced towards that stand.
“The people from the Thousand Illusion Gang. The Crimson Temptress….”
A few of the competitors thought about it and most of them decided to give up.
The Thousand Illusion was the same as the Bloodhole Gang and The Eastern Tyrants - it was one of the three major Gangs and was extremely famous within the Northern Border. Most people didn’t want to offend a monster like the Thousand Illusion and their wealth also couldn’t be compared to it either.
“Three Million and six hundred thousand!’
“Four Million and eight hundred thousand!’
“Six Million!”
“Six Million and six hundred thousand!’
“Eight Million and eight hundred thousand!’
However, there still were a number of people that were confident in their powers and influence and basically, fearless. They also had the backing of a powerful force that wasn’t scared of the Thousand Illusion. And one of them is Oriel, princess of the Demon Empire. She was actually quite fond of musical instruments and likes listening to music. So this flute, she wanted it. “Ten Million!!”
“Ten Million Five Hundred Thousand Gold!!” The Crimson Temptress once again cried out but this time her expression was getting heavier. No matter how dumb these people were, they had realized that the infamous Crimson Temptress was bent on buying this item.
Most of the competitors began to hesitate.
Eight Million Gold was the maximum value of this Flute. Although it has a good background and was once owned by the legendary Death Musician. However, they also know that only those musical skills had reached the standards can use this kind of magical item and wasn’t something that is easily used by anyone. To most people, it can just be used as a collectible item.
If they added more, it wouldn’t be worth it.
“Eleven Million.” A mocking voice sounded from the 5th row from the front which caused everyone to look over - who would dare offend the Thousand Illusion in public?
However, the location where the source of the voice was next to the Thousand Illusion, symbolizing that its position was the same as theirs.
“It’s the people from the Bloodhole Gang!”
“No wonder they dared to offend the Thousand Illusion. The Bloodhole Gang is also one of the three powerful Groups in the Border.”
Everyone understood.
“Eleven Million and six hundred thousand.” The voice of the Crimson Temptress carried a tone of irritation.
“Twelve Million.” Gobing’s voice carried a joyful tone.
“Thirteen Million.” The Qin Sword Palace added another one million, showing off their wealth.
After a few rounds of fighting, afraid of being labeled as a Bid Manipulator by the Demon Gate Auction House and be blacklisted, the Bloodhole Gang knows their limitations as they didn’t raise the price anymore. It was as though they only wanted to play around with the Thousand Illusions and not go too overboard. However, Princess Oriel was still stubbornly fighting for it. And thus, in the end, although the Thousand Illusion desired it so strongly, but against Princess Oriel, they couldn’t help but yield.
The Hamelin’s Flute was sold for Fifteen Million Nine Hundred Thousand Gold to Princess Oriel who seemed to be extremely happy about it. Cian didn’t fight for it since it was his sister who liked it so, he yielded.

“Ladies and Gentleman, next is, at last, the final, and greatest, lot for today!” Elder Soma happily announced, attracting many people’s attention.
“He he, the item that is going to be auctioned last is somewhat strange. However, it should possess quite the great attraction to some people who have some needs.” He wiped off the perspiration on his forehead and immediately waved his hand with a smile. The ground behind him slowly parted. Ten burly men carried an enormous object covered by a white cloth. They slowly climbed onto the stage.
The large being that had suddenly appeared also stirred the curiosity of quite a number of people. Many gazes quickly shot over. Cian was among them.
“There is a corpse stench…” Ruka by his side wrinkled her nose as she spoke. “Indeed, it’s a corpse…” Cian activated his eye and immediately saw the thing covered by a cloth. Cian was startled when he saw it. At this moment, Elder Soma let out an exhaling sound as he pulled down the white cloth covering the object. After which, an enormous corpse that was over a hundred feet large appeared in front of everyone.
The size of this Magical Beast’s body was quite large, but it appeared to have been dead for a long time. The bones and flesh on its body were in a dried state. The thing that attracted the most attention was the enormous wings that had already turned into white bones. This pair of enormous wings was quite strange. They appeared to be like some gem, emitting a faint fluorescent light. Any sharp-eyed person could tell from a glance that a strange energy was contained in these large wings.
However, by being able to maintain some energy despite being dead for so long, it was likely that this Magical Beast was of quite a high rank when it was alive.
“Ke ke, this Magical Beast corpse is something that my Demon Gate found by a mountain stream a few miles deeper in the Northern Mountain. After our leader’s appraisal, this Magical Beast should be a peerless beast that was about to break through the seventh rank to enter the eighth!” The white-haired old man explained in a solemn manner.
An uproar was stirred within the hall the moment his words sounded. A Magical Beast that was about to enter the 8th rank? Was that not equivalent to a Demon King Class already? A Magical Beast of this rank possessed the ability to reach the sky. Their lifespan was also extremely long. Why would it die in this place? What was the cause of its death…? For it to be able to kill something like this, it means that an even absurd monster was living in the Northern Mountain…! Everyone simultaneously shared the same realization as they glanced at each other, terrified.
Such a monster living close to them…
As for Cian, he didn’t really care about it. His eyes locked firmly on the corpse of the Magical Beast while the auction ground was in an uproar. A moment later, he turned his eyes to its gem-like wings and an unusual flicker appeared in his eyes. Despite it being dead for who knows how long, this corpse emitted an extremely dense amount of mana as if it was still alive. Especially its wings which were like a work of art.
When Cian fixed his gaze at the corpse, suddenly his eyes widened in shock; [ Chimaera ] an extremely rare monster that eats and steals body parts from monster to strengthen its constitution and power, stealing their abilities at is. There was a rumor that when one consumed the heart of a Chimaera, one can gain its power over plunder.
[ Abyssal Hawk Wings ]: Plundered by the Chimaera from the Abyssal Hawk. It has retained its soul and essence from when it was still alive, having a parasitic relationship with the Chimaera. But now the Chimaera had died, one can still obtain the wings of the Abyssal Hawk and transplant it. However, beware, the Abyssal Hawk’s soul essence was still alive and might try to take over the user if the latter was proven weaker compared to it.
Cian’s body trembled and his eyes narrowed. His heart was quite satisfied with this Magical Beast’s dried corpse. By relying on his eye, he was able to see that gem-like white bone wings that seemed to be turned into a real jewel due to the magic power surrounding it, retaining its essence. It was actually able to slowly consume the Monster’s energy to nourish itself even after its death. What a monster…! Hence, he did somewhat believe Elder Soma when he said that this Magical beast was one that was about to enter the eighth rank, the Demon King Class that can cause the destruction of an entire Continent. After all, the wings were still able to possess such a frightening amount of energy even after having been dead for so long. This was the first time that Cian, even Aanuel had witnessed such a thing.
Cian’s eyes narrowed as they slowly swept over the dried corpse of the enormous Magical Beast. He nodded slightly a moment later. Not only the [ Abyssal Hawk Wings ] even the flesh of this monster could strengthen and improve one’s constitution and power to an unimaginable level—that is why auctioning a corpse of a Monster is not uncommon. In fact, it is more welcome than any other items and weapons in the Auction.
Even a 4th to 5th rank monster flesh can give enormous benefit to a Duke Class Demon which was already considered extremely high in the World of the Demons. And although this corpse was already not fresh but it came from a very powerful monster and so, eating this Beast would surely increase one’s power in an instant!
And this already not accounting the Heart of the Chimaera—though, such a rumor was already ancient old, so Cian was confident that no one had truly seen through it. Aside from that, due to the almost dried up corpse and without its head, and for the fact that a monster like a Chimaera had never been seen for a very long time already, they didn’t even know that it was the Chimaera of legend!
I want it… Cian grinned like a predator seeing a plump prey. However, if taken things to an account, his current wealth left was barely able to reach Thirty Million. If only the price wouldn’t be as high as that… there’s a chance!

Hi there! I'm setting off on yet another adventure, come join me :3 Unusually for me, there's only one perspective this time, and it's quite a bit more action-oriented than I usually write. Don't worry, though: everything's still as character-driven as always, and I never get tired of writing dialogue. Just to acknowledge it up front: this story is heavily inspired by EVE Online and the many stories generated by that world. However, since this is a fantasy setting, not sci-fi, don't expect any real parallels. Chapter publish rate for this one will be whenever I write them, as with Epilogue. I don't expect to move as fast here though, since it's not for NaNo. The plan is chapters somewhere in the 4k-5k range, and hopefully frequently. The Last Science takes priority as always though. Special thanks to Reaver and Ace Arriande for pushing me to get this going, and to all my fellow writers whom I've stolen from been inspired by. You're all wonderful people and I love you Quick reminder: Patrons get to read ahead of what's published!
