Abrum woke up to two things. Something nibbling on his ear, and something nibbling on his right big toe. Abrum had a pretty good idea on what was nibbling his ear, but his toe?
He opened his eyes, and it was just as he feared. Bella was clinging to his left arm in human form. His bicep was shoved into her deep valley, and her legs intertwined around his left leg. She was still asleep. Her breathing was light and would have been cute if she wasn’t nibbling on his ear in her sleep/
‘Dang it, how can she do that in her sleep? It feels odd… but good…. Dang it.’
Then he looked down at the right his right leg. There was Tella. She had her whole body wrapped around his leg. His shin was shoved in her valley. Her long legs were wrapped around his waist. She was nibbling on his toe.
Abrum just lay there for a second. What kind of ridiculous situation had he gotten himself into? At that moment, Bella stuck her little tongue into his ear and started to probe around.
‘Gosh dang it! The -5 luck!!!!!!!!!!’
Abrum just internally sighed. He noticed he was doing that a lot recently. He started to shake Bella gently. She opened her eyes and wore a cute sleepy smile. When her eyes met Abrum’s, she smiled a beautifully and her gold tipped ears perked up.
They stared into each other’s eyes. Those beautiful green eyes. Bella blushed slightly as she gazed into the deep blue, soul piercing eyes of Abrum. This beautiful moment was interrupted Abrum’s yell of pain.
Tella had, using the full force of her jaw, bitten Abrum’s toe. She was munching on it now, and Abrum could feel her sharp canines entering his toe… Still asleep.
“H-hey Tella! Wake up! Wake UP!” Abrum said frantically as he was shaking her and his leg.
She opened her eyes and looked at him sleepily. She smiled and said sweetly
“Good morning master.”
“Good morning my butt! Will you stop chewing on my toe!?”
Tella just pouted and reluctantly untangled herself. Bella did the same thing. They both sat in seiza position.
“Whatever happened to staying in fox form?”
“Well, you looked so cold… And these forms have more body area, and thus better heating ability.” Replied Bella
“Cuz we wanted to!” Answered Tella
Abrum just face palmed and started to gather the bed roll.
“As an apology, would you two go out and catch come breakfast?”
They both nodded, changed into their fox forms and padded out of the library. Abrum just internally sighed once again.
He went over to the pile of books that they had brought down and proceeded to throw a book in the air. At the pinnacle of its arc, the mana crystal pulsated and the book floated up into the darkness. He proceeded to do so with the other books.
It was quite the odd scene. A man throwing books behind him like a mad man, uncaring as to where they went. After a few minutes of this process. The last of the books were receding into the darkness.

Abrum exited the library with his pack and proceeded to make a battle plan.
‘The succubus’ won’t be a problem due to her weakness against light energy. The problem will be the thralls. Their numbers will be immense with all the townsmen. The way to deal with them is to bust some balls. I won’t do anything but block and kick, block and kick.’
Abrum went to the town square, activated his Blades of the Angaellis and did some image training. He spun block, kicked, swept with his feet. The success rate was 90% instant crotch hit after a few hours of training.
His wings were getting in the way, so he kept them tightly folded on his back. He couldn’t wait until he had enough control over them to fight using them.
After that, the foxes came back with breakfast. Abrum took the rabbits the foxes had gathered and began to cook. Bella and Tella returned to their humanoid forms and sat down, their tail wagging.
While he was cooking, Abrum thought of something troubling. Would Bella and Tella be able to hold their own in the upcoming fight? They could hunt the rabbits without any trouble, but humans?
“Are you guys going to be able to hold your own in the upcoming fight?”
“Whenever we went disappeared during the journey to the river, we were training our bodies. To make sure that Golden armored man would pay!”
“We watched your training with Aleqe and learned from it too master. You won’t have to worry about us.”
Abrum contemplated the new information for a little while.
“How about a little bare handed sparring?”
“With master? Of course.” Said Bella
“YAY!” screamed Tella
They stood in the town center, with the twin foxes at one side, then Abrum at the other.
“Come” Abrum said
And so they did. Wickedly fast, just like their ancestors, the twins sprinted forward. When they halved the distance, they moved into a pincer formation and attacked at once.
‘Their team work is impressive’ Abrum absent mindedly thought as he dodged Tella’s attack and she went tumbling forward. He ducked under Bella’s kick and swept her leg out from under her. He smiled at this, until he felt a strong blow to his side.
‘How did she get back up so fast?’ Abrum thought to himself and jumped back. They both came at him again. Bella punched and Tella kicked. Abrum dodged the punch and grabbed Tella’s leg. He swung Tella into Bella and they went sprawling.
“Goodness gracious! You two are fast! Well, you pass my test.”
They both got up with their tails wagging
“Now how about we go put down a succubus.”
They both nodded and the group headed off to the east. They passed through the forest. The birds were silent, the wind howled ominously. All of a sudden, they heard a scream. A scream of agony, a scream of death.
They rushed forward to a clearing. They saw many people, all men. One was on the ground, and was bleeding profusely. He was a thin wiry fellow, thin face, shrewd, but bright green eyes. Currently, he was laying in the middle of the men begging for his life.
“Please let me go! We won’t come after your mistress again, I promise. I-I’ll stop them! Just let me go!” The man pleaded. One of the men, a big buff man walked up to him. He offered his hand. The wiry man looked relieved and took the hand. The man pulled him up… right into his sword. The thin man just opened his eyes wide and choked on his blood, spitting some into the face of the buff dude. He disappeared in a flash of light, signifying that he was a player.

Abrum recognized that man. He was the one back at Sefica that was trying to gather players to put down the succubus to the east.
‘Well he had his turn, now it is ours.’
Abrum thought to himself as he walked forward into the clearing. The twenty people’s heads turned in unison to gaze at him. The burly man who still had blood all over him stepped forward.
“What business do you have?”
Abrum looked at him
‘Surprisingly civilized’
“We have come for your mistress.”
With those six words, something changed. Their eyes. They filled with an intense bloodlust.
“You… have come to take the mistress.” The burly guy said in a menacingly quite voice…
“WE WON”T LET YOU!!!” And with that, the battle began.
“Bella, Tella, Pincer attack, I’ll be heading in the front. You know what to do to disrupt the magic.”
Abrum yelled as he summoned his dual blades. The first sword he locked with belonged to a tall man. Abrum parried and brought his knee up hard. Needless to say, the man collapsed with a face contorted in agony.
Abrum ducked under and incoming slash and swept his opponents legs out from under him. He stood up, stomped, and parried the next blade.
Bella and Tella were doing their part to, and extremely well. A man slashed at Tella, she lunged under his slash and punched upwards, right into the jewels. The man fell forward, and Tella used his falling momentum to push him into one of his comrades.
Bella would utilize her long slender legs to sweep her opponents to the ground. She would then proceed to stomp with a passion. Her fury had already taken out 5 people.
A man stabbed at Abrum. He deflected the stab and the man stumbled forward. Abrum pick up his knee and ran forward. The man bent over in pain. Abrum threw the man into another and kicked violently into another that ran forward to attack. One tried to slash, Abrum ducked under and brought the hilt of his sword up hard.
The battle raged on, but ended with the men all on the ground writhing in pain. Abrum wiped the sweat off of his brow.
“That was… fun.”
Abrum said while thinking
‘I’m so sorry, it was for your own good!’
Bella and Tella walked forward to him
“You two did well, I am really impre—“
His congratulations were cut off as a silver arrows sprouted from his shoulder, his bicep, and his thigh. Bella and Tella rushed towards him. In that moment, he lost around 300 health.
Warning: The enthralled boss, Orion the Hunter has appeared
‘A little bit late on the notice’ Abrum thought as he jumped back.
‘How did he fire off three arrows that quickly? How big is his bow to get them at that speed?!”
A man walked out from the trees. Abrum saw thin, toned man with long brown hair walking out of the woods. His belt shined with a mysterious glow but the thing that caught Abrum’s eyes was the massive bow man had. It was as tall as him and the wood glowed with a mysterious luster.
The man stepped forward.
“I am Orion. I assume you have come for the mistress?” He asked in a deep rumbling voice.
“You assume correctly.” Abrum said as he charged forward.
With speed that would parallel a cheetah, Orion had three arrows nocked in his bow. He let them fly. Abrum deflected the first one, and used the momentum of that swing to dodge the second one. The third one flew right at Abrum’s face, and he ducked. Bella and Tella were advancing as well. Orion nocked the bow again with a strange looking arrow. He fired and the arrow exploded into buckshot.
Both Abum and Bella and Tella were caught in the blast, but they kept running using their arms to shield their faces. Bella and Tella were bleeding from the shrapnel. Abrum saw this and was unhappy to say the least. He ran forward with speed fueled by rage. Orion did something surprising next, he threw his bow at Abrum. He cut through it, but it was a distraction. Orion had used this time to pull a dagger from his boot and throw it straight at Abrum’s heart. Abrum couldn’t avoid in time, so he twisted his body to minimize the damage. It entered into his shoulder. At that moment, Orion drew two short swords and proceeded to hack at Abrum, Bella and Tella. Bella and Tella couldn’t help much in the exchange since they were unarmed. They were chanting something as they dodged ever so gracefully. When they had finished their chant, Abrum noticed his health had recovered to full. He nodded gratefully to the foxes and proceeded to dance with Orion.
They exchanged blows magnificently. Abrum had to admit, Orion was talented. He was holding his own in this confrontation. Whenever Abrum would try to sweep out Orion’s legs, he would jump back or jump over Abrum and proceed to counter attack. They danced. The clearing was filled with the clangs of swords and the groans of the men on the ground. Abrum seemingly tripped on one of the groaning men, and Orion went in for the attack.
‘Got’cha’
They both thought in unison. Abrum swung his leg up as hard as he could, and since Orion wasn’t expecting that, he crumpled to the ground in pain.
“Whew. That was actually fun! Good job Bella, Tella.”
Abrum stated in a brave voice. Bella and Tella rushed over to him to check for any injuries. He shook them off saying.
“Shouldn’t you be more worried about your own injuries? Heal those up first. I’d feel terribly if you sustained any scars on my account.” Abrum said as he wrenched the dagger out of his shoulder. It hurt, a lot. He continued to wrench out the arrows while Bella and Tella healed themselves.
“Let’s go and end this.”
Abrum said while walking. They both nodded and continued to walk.
He looked to the two of them.
“If I start to act weird, knock me out. You don’t need to fight me and the succubus.”
“Of course master.” They both said in unison.
And so, they walked off into the direction Orion came from to end the quest.

Just a Game
“A great corruption is spreading. The people cry out for a savior. For a hero. For YOU! Come join the fight, as the chosen of World Tree! Receive the blessings of the gods, battle fierce monsters, and become the hero you were meant to be, in Arcanum Online!” It was the cheesiest commercial Ethan had ever heard, but the gameplay was enough to draw him - and thousands of others - to the fantasy world of Lazuros. It’s the sort of place that can really draw you in - a huge open world, a deep character customization system, and a feature that makes time pass slower inside the game, extending your limited playtime! It was a little strange, though. As if it was a bit too realistic for a game of swords and sorcery. The NPC’s seemed almost alive, most quests didn’t reset and monsters respawned slowly. Still, for all it’s quirks, it was a good game! Just a game. And nothing more. …right?
