《Towards the Light》Chapter 1: Character Creation

The complete blinding light that surrounded him transitioned to a deep, almost abyss black. A deep, rumbling, masculine voice began to speak.

“Welcome to Monster Mayhem Online, the scan of your iris identifies you as an unregistered user. Would you like to create a new account.”

“Yes please.” He answered with excitement brimming in his voice. He had been waiting for this, even though he got hit by a car.

“Please choose your name.”

“Abrum.” He liked that name that once belonged to his grandfather. To him, that name conveyed warmth, generosity, and gentleness.

“Please select your gender, you may choose male, female, neutral.”

“Male.” He selected without hesitation. He wanted this game to be as close to normal, and converse with the players normally. And besides, he didn't agree with that kind of hobby.

“Please select your race, there are twelve playable races currently, each with their own strength’s and setbacks. More playable races will become available as the game progresses and racial quests are completed.”

He thought long and hard about this, because he knew that his race could greatly alter the way he would interact with the world. Being a vampire might be fun, but then he would be hunted and persecuted by the churches. Also, he wouldn’t be able to play during the day, and that would be a lot of wasted time.

A beast man race may be fun, however, they are shunned and discriminated against in human metropolises.

Unfortunately, the game was rife with racial discrimination, and this would make playing as a beast man harder, despite the physical abilities.

Playing as an elf would be fun, because they had good relations with the humans and superior magical abilities; and yet, their physical characteristics were abysmal. They would receive severe penalties for melee damage and had a low stamina cap.

The inverse was true for playing as an orc. They had huge capacities for close combat. They started out with nearly double the vitality and strength of a human; and yet, their magical capabilities were basically nonexistent.

The undead were a good all-around race. Their endless endurance comes from the fact that, well, they are dead. They are very capable in the area of dark magic. Yet, there is a catch. They receive 5 times the normal damage from Holy Magic.

Playing as a dwarf would be fun, because they have an accelerated learning rate for crafting. Some skills can have an accelerated learning rate if the player has real life experience with the in game skill. Since nearly no one would have experience in crafting weapons, the dwarven race grants a head start in a extremely coveted skill. Sameul didn’t choose the dwarven race for one reason in particular: Their diminutive stature. Also the characteristic to gain to debuff of nausea from riding and transportation was off putting.

The final race that Sameul came to in his potential choices, was the race of possibilities. Humans. Now humans are a race that has no notable strengths, however, no noticeable deficiencies. They are a good race for both those that are not committed players, or people who are extremely ambivalent about their class choice.

Just as Sameul was about to choose the race of human, that rumbling, deep, masculine voice cut in again.

“The gods of this world have recognized your heart. One that is willing to sacrifice oneself for another, thus, a unique race has been opened to you. Would you like to proceed?”

Sameul thought about it for a second. This is a unique occurrence, but what if the race is absolute crud? Yet, he thought his prime choice as human was uninteresting, thus he answered

“I would like to proceed with the unique race.”

“Congratulations traveler, you have been granted the race of the Angaellis. Their racial attributes and abilities will be revealed as time passes and you accumulate knowledge. Would you like to alter the default appearance of the Angaellis?”

A tall male with a thin, but toned frame appeared in front of him. The figure was about six feet tall, with white hair, and stormy blue eyes that seemed to see into the depths of one’s soul.

“Leave as is.”

The figure disappeared and the voice rumbled

“Choose your starting city. You may choose Hundria, (Kingdom of Lirt), Sefica (Queendom of Jull), or Yine (Kingdom of Terr).”

These names were unfamiliar to Sameul and he just chose one at a whim.

“Sefica”

“Welcome to the world of Atreties, enjoy your stay… hahaha” The voice rumbled and had a strange laugh at the end.

Sameul disregarded the uneasiness that came from the ominous laugh and prepared himself for his future adventures.
