《Winter Sovereign》Chapter 74: Two battles

Luisa stepped forward to meet her foe.
The person who stepped forward was rather similar to the person before, another young man wearing iron armor.
Furthermore... He has the same body type as the previous person.
If the areas where the people participating weren't in view of the public, perhaps they'd say the person who lost just now came back.
"Hey... Although they're wearing iron armor, all of them are kinda similar from afar."
Aies spoke.
"Actually... There are some differences like their weapons. The previous person wielded a sword but this one wields a spear."
Lilia commented.
"Luisa should emerge victorius. Her weapon, is the same weapon that's her strongest."
Seileen said confidently.
"Hmmm? Her weapon is different from before."
Serra noted.
"Yup. Her weapon against Lezner back then was a spare weapon. You see, her main weapon was broken sometime ago in a fierce battle. Regardless, this should help clinch victory."
Luisa might not be the captain but she was the strongest among them.
Not counting Serra of course.
What Luisa drew out was a long blue fan. It had elegant designs bearing plum blossoms.
Her form as she drew it out was elegant and beautiful.
The fan began to glow.
"Ah, I just forgot something. The matches are basically four fights, right?"
Aies suddenly said something.
"Yes? So, what?"
"In the case that both teams win two fights, how will the victor be determined?"
"Oh, that's simple. The second match counts as two victories."
Lilia answered.
"Isn't that a bit unfair? No, unbalanced?"
"It is... But this tournament is rather unique and instead of balanced fights, they host some rather unique match-ups. This is so that the participants always make numerous preparations and adjust to any condition. One could say this is a good training method."
Lilia said proudly.
"...I rather doubt that... Isn't is just that the organizer is a bit eccentric?"
Serra retorted.
"...Well... That might be ture... There are some nonsensical matches that are rather difficult of annoying..."
Lilia said while averting her eyes a bit.
She lacked means to retort to that solid argument.
"Ah, they're starting!"
She dropped the subject.
......
Seileen was a calm and composed fighter. She was the kind that adopted the cautious approach. Preferring to fight defensively at first and determine the opponents strength and weakness.
Thus, upon knowing that the opponent had high defenses yet expended more stamina than her, she decisively chose a battle of attrition and wait for her opportunity to end her battle.
How about Luisa then?
In the fight against Lezner, she coordinated her attacks with others but how about in one on one?
Luisa is also a level-headed individual. But she was a few notches above Seileen.
She's analytical by nature and could easily see a person's abilities merely from observation alone. Her experience as an elite sect member allowed her to face many different cultivators from other sects thus she's quite familiar with a variety of styles.

With those in her arsenal, she could easily determine an efficient method of victory.
Waving her fan, a blue glow flashed and covered her.
"Hm... A shield? Break for me!"
Her opponent cried out as he charged forward.
His spear was emitting a red glow.
Within her shield, that glow was captured by Luisa.
Fire? I see.
Her fan had a unique ability. It allowed her to use various skills from other elements. Her techniques and abilities were related to flowers. Though she specialized in wind, she had experience in using other elements and could switch the elements in her attacks.
This helped nullify elemental advantages but against Lezner who used brute force, it was hardly effective.
Luisa calmly waited.
The red burning spear clashed with the blue barrier.
When the force was dispelled and transferred upon the shield, Luisa dispersed the shield.
"What!?"
Leaving the opponent hanging in shook, Luisa didn't miss the opportunity and tried to end the match swiftly.
She swung her fan numerous times.
Each swing produced a blade of wind that rushed towards him forming 7 slashes!
"Seven Petal Blades."
She calmly stated.
The opponent shook off her shock and tried to use his weapon to disperse them.
But being in mid-air, he couldn't defend properly and allowed four slashes to reach him.
They all hit the joints in his body.
Blood dripped as he glared at her.
Raising her fan once more, a great wind went burst and blew him forward.
"Urk! You're a wind-type cultivator?"
He said as he stabbed his spear into the ground to prevent himself from falling out the stage.
"Still standing? Not for long."
Luisa coldly gazed at her foe.
Gathering her power, she unleashed an instant strike at him aiming for his chest.
A blue light rushed towards him.
Gritting his teeth, he dodged to the right.
However, he was shocked to see Luisa there.
"Fast!"
He spoke.
"I expended up a bit of power to form that attack. Take it obediently like a man, won't you?"
She said.
Another burst of wind blew him into the trajectory of the attack.
"Argh!"
The blue light crashed into him and exploded.
Blowing him off towards the wall.
He collapsed to the ground.
He fainted from that blow.
On closer look, there was ice covering some of his body.
"I specialize in water attacks. Wind is simply something I can also use. Unfortunately, it's merely secondary."
Luisa said.
Ignoring the fact that her opponent couldn't hear her anymore.
The second match was decided.
"Well done!"
Lilia cried out along with the crowd.
It was a one-sided battle.
The opponent was far stronger than him.
Amidst the cheers, Luisa calmly walked off the stage.
"Victor! Sky Blossom Sect!”
The referee announced the conclusion.
"Alright! Our turn!"
Aies said enthusiastically.
"Aies, Serra, don't mess it up, you two."

Luisa said as she descended down the stage.
"I'd like to participate... But, I find it more valuable that we claim victory. This match emphasizes teamwork. If you two lose, they'll have caught up. So, don't. Win and this battle ends in our total victory."
It was time for her and Serra to take the stage.
"Next match! Both teams send out their combatants!"
Serra nodded and walked towards the stage with Aies.
Two youths ascended the stairs with them.
On the other side of course.
"Both combatants are ready! Start the match in..."
The referee began counting down.
Both sides stared at each other.
"3! 2! 1! Fight!"
Immediately, a brown aura enveloped both their foes.
"Earth? A technique that empowers defense...? No, it lightens the weight!"
Serra observed.
The light disappeared soon butt a brown glow still emitted from their bodies.
They immediately rushed forward.
Not only that, but they were fast! Just as if they weren't wearing armor!
"Take this!"
Serra unleashed two ice balls similar to the ones unleashed towards Lezner before.
"Hmph! Won't work on us!"
"You take us too lightly if you think this is enough to work on us!"
They both coldly laughed as they watched two ice balls head straight towards them.
The first one held a hammer and the other an axe.
They ruthlessly smashed both ice balls apart.
As they rushed forwards, the sound of shattering glass rang out and two men getting drenched.
The ice balls drenched both men as cold water slammed into them.
Upon that, both of the stopped.
The audience went silent for a second as they stopped.
Then...
"Hahahahaha! What was that, a prank?"
"Why place water into them? Were you looking down on them or was this your intention?"
"This girly is a bit soft!"
They laughed.
"Bastards! Looking down on us!?"
One of them roared.
The other didn't show expressions because of hte armor but it was obvious he wasn't too happy.
They rushed at Serra enraged.
"Not my intention. Freeze the ground!"
A blue light shone and the stage began to freeze!
With the ground turning into ice, it became slippery.
Both of the stopped again.
Serra didn't freeze the ground where Aies was.
"Now... take this."
Four ice balls appeared and launched towards them.
"Hmph!"
Standing their ground, they smashed them apart.
Once more, the sound of shattering glass rand out as they were further drenched in cold water.
They shivered from the cold.
"Is cheap tricks all you can do?"
"E-even if we freeze, we won't lose!"
They yelled angrily.
"You look down on me a bit too much."
Serra spoke without a ripple of emotion in his voice.
A path towards them unfroze as Aies dashed towards them.
"Same tactic with that brute? Okay! Time to show my stuff!"
Aies yelled excitedly.
She charged forward with her spear with a warcry.
"Yiya!"
Seeing this, the two hurriedly swung their blades but...
"Urk..."
"Grr..."
The cold ice hindered their movements.
"Haha!"
Laughing lightly, she pierced with her spear... Trying to strike their joints.
Unable to move properly, l they swiftly took damage.
"That cunning brat..."
One of them spat out.
"Time to back out a bit..."
Saying that, Aies leapt up.
The two watched her jump puzzled.
But they weren't puzzled long.
Two ice balls smashed into their faces, drenching them for a third time.
The clear sound of shattering glass rang out a third as well to the laughter of the crowd.
The two began to shiver.
Not from the cold, but from rage.
"You!!!"
It was fortunate they were wearing helmets that blocked off any damage. The ice balls were rather light and thin so they really were like glass.
Enraged they tried to rush at Serra.
"It's best for you two to give it up. Your ambitions ends here... Blame your own misfortune for facing me here."
Serra spoke coldly.
"Arrogant fool! You think this will be enough to stop us!?"
One of them roared angrily.
:"I don't think."
Serra spoke quietly.
"I know. Do you seriously believe... that those ice balls were a joke...?"
He addressed them.
At once, the two realized that something was wrong with their bodies.
They... couldn't move their bodies... furthermore...
The area around them... the temperature was freezing!
The barrier around the arena blocked off the cold so none of the audience felt it but...
"The ice... it's frozen!?"
"Wait... you drenched us to freeze us?"
They yelled.
The audience then realized it and were quite stunned.
"That's right... It's over now. Aies, if you please."
Aies stepped forward.
"Brr! It's really cold... But not enough to stop me! Here I go!"
She dashed towards the two once more.
Calmly, she drew her spear near his neck.
"Can't move, can you?"
The referee glanced towards them and sighed.
"The two combatants are unable to battle! Team Sky Blossom wins!"
The audience didn't cheer.
The last two fights were quite thrilling and displayed skill and technique but this match was merely trickery and deceit.
It was indeed a good battle... But it was by no means entertaining.
The defeated team glanced towards them with hatred in their eyes.
No one liked having their chances of glory ruined by mere tricks.
The two failed to even display all their power.
Aside from that was regret.
They didn’t think it through carefully enough and now… Their ambition and path ends here.
