《Winter Sovereign》Chapter 27: Aura Autumn

Within the Recquir Castle.
Lucas was dazed when a beautiful maiden appeared behind his ancestor.
She was a beautiful and mature woman.
"This... this lady is...?"
Despite being married for many years, Lucas had difficulty keeping his composure before her beauty.
"This is my wife, Aura Autumn, the Autumn Sovereign. I've told you of the Four Season's Sovereigns before right?"
"Well yes... but..."
Upon hearing her name and her status, Lucas felt electrocuted on the spot.
Serra told him about the Four Seasons Sovereigns some time before.
That he's the weakest of the four due to the element he cultivates in and his techniques mainly supportive.
The other three are far more offense-oriented and are very powerful.
Lucas felt cold sweat trickling down in his hair.
He suddenly composes himself and respectfully greets her.
"Greetings, senior, I am Lord Serra's descendant, Lucas III Recquir. Current king of the kingdom. Forgive me for my unsightly display."
Lucas bowed in reverance.
Aura nodded.
"Pleased to meet you. I can see that you are indeed of the same lineage as my Serra."
Lucas displayed a slightly strange expression.
Given Aura's appearance as a mature older woman and Serra's appearance as a youth, it seems like a certain lady aristocrats with an interest in younger boys.
But he definitely won't say such a thing as appearances can be quite deceiving.
Serra said that the other three sovereigns are stronger than him. Which means they're all quite old and this lady might be even older than his ancestor.
But of course, Lucas knows better than to speak of a lady's age.
"Now then, Serra spoke of two descendants did he not? I'm interested in seeing some of my descendants as well."
Lucas was shocked.
"Ah yes... I didn't mention before but Aura originally lived in the Higher Planes but for reasons descended to our plane. She was still quite weak then and we fell in love and ascended together."

Serra explained.
"I...I see..."
Lucas nodded.
Aura Autumn was the only one among them that had the seasons as her surname.
In truth, that's merely because she discarded her clan name ages ago due to grievances with her clan.
Due to various reasons, she was exiled from her clan with her parents executed due to discord within the clan.
She was forcefully exiled to Serra's homeland and they met and fell in love.
Afterwards, she returned to the clan in glory as a supreme expert and claimed vengeance before departing.
Leaving her previous clan in ruins and tatters.
She eventually formed a new clan by herself.
Naming her clan the Autumn clan after the season in which she fell in love with Serra.
The Four Sovereigns named themselves after the element they cultivate in and the season they love the most.
They each have a strong reason to represent the various seasons they chose.
Elric's Spring, Krues' Summer, Aura's Autumn and Serra's Winter.
Lucas does not know why but he knows better than to ask why.
"Lucas, arrange a room for us two."
Serra asked Lucas.
"Of course. Please leave it to me."
Lucas took his leave and ordered several maids to arrange their room.
Serra already has a room prepared but it's not enough for both of them.
"Well then, let's go Serra."
"Yes."
Aura and Serra entered their room as a pair.
"Since we're here, allow me to show you a certain board game I obtained just recently."
Serra started.
As peak experts, aside from managing their subordinates and devising new techniques, they mainly focus on their hobbies. Board games are actually quite popular for them as they can play for thousands of years each session.
They simply have too much free time.
As peak experts who reached the absolute summit, they've lost all motivation the moment they reached the summit and achieved their goals.
So, they've spent their time on their hobbies instead.
"Really? Let me see..."
Aura went over.

Cinder Roots (Undergoing a Rewrite)
This novel is currently undergoing a major rewrite, as I noticed several plot points that needed to be revamped. I'll leave the chapters I've posted here to anyone curious to see how everything started, but I'll be posting the rewritten story as a new novel in the future. The characters will be the same, but the journey will be more understandable and hopefully, a lot more fun to read. -------- First, everything was fire, it killed, it consumed, and it gave him life. He was just a tree, born in the biggest forest that remained in the world, full of dryads, naiads, elves and treants, but he was alone. He couldn’t see. He couldn’t talk. Curiosity plagued him. He dreamed of wandering the land, but could only wonder what stood outside the reach of his roots. The tree was tired of waiting. He decided to not just dream, but to act. How could he survive against a invading empire, a grand conspiracy that threatened to shake the foundations of the world, and the raw danger that lies within these woods? With pure determination. Warning - There are quite a few POV changes in the first chapters, but that'll change after the introduction is done, as I'll be focusing on the MC perspective only.
