《The Man Ruined by The Gods》Chapter 14: The Truth behind the cheat system

In the dark void a single soul was floating stationarily. The soul is pitch black but that deep dark color of it separated the soul from the void.
If any god were to see this soul right now they would shiver in fear as the soul already proves its vile darkness and evil nature by being darker than the void.
At that moment the soul opened it's eyes, one was red the other white. It can't show any emotion but the aura that surrounds him shows confusion and lack of understanding.
Still confused a silhouette of a young dhampir appears before him.
[Evolution Requirements have been met, Please choose your evolution path]
These words did not echo in his head but in the void space he was currently at. But instead of understanding more confusion showed around the soul, and even the two glowing eyes contorted to a frown.
“Where is this?!”
He shouted out as he looked towards the body and thought of what reason could this be happening and then a thought came.
(Could the evolution have failed and I… died?)
Although he didn't want to believe it the facts show that he's dead. The void is a space where only bodiless souls can wander, here there’s no such thing as gods or goddesses, there are only souls.
And yet he was here, just right after he did something he really wanted to do, slay a dragon. The dream of every young man.
(And just as I got a satisfying life, although that life made me cautious of my surroundings especially those perverts… it was still fun to have someone love you, treasure you and care for you. Sadly… this may be the effect of that curse… *sigh* am I now supposed to wander in the void aimlessly? But why did this projection appear?)
Just as he was about to give up on everything a familiar voice once again echoed throughout the space.
[Nay, you are currently suspended in your own spirit world. And here is the space where you will be choosing your evolution path]
Xenados was confused the voice would occasionally answer his queries but not all. Then again it did so he wanted to confirm it.
“Are you the void?”
To his question the reply was immediate and without hesitation.
[Nay]
“Then what are you?”
The next question was already thought of by Xenados, he didn't mind if the voice didn't actually belong to the void. He was shocked but that's all, the next moment after he asked the second question a pure white silhouette appeared beside him.

The silhouette was similar to Xenados’ soul only that the colors were inverted, it's body is a pure white while its right eye is crimson red and left eye is pitch black.
If there was anything Xendaos could say about this is an inverted copy of him. And just as he was about to say something the soul talked to him.
[I am neither a god nor the void. I am thy servant, a crystallization of all the knowledge that thee had accumulated throughout the hundred years of hell]
Speechless Xenados could only blankly stare at the soul.
“Could you be a better version of… me?”
To Xendos’ question the soul once again answered without emotion.
[I am neither a copy nor a version of thee. I am but an extension a part of you that will never rebel against thee]
“That loyalty… there is no way that it’s that simple, for me to have a seconds soul that has the ability to think, that would be like having a seconds soul without a will… tell the truth what are you?”
The soul hesitated, from the whole conversation since the first time he heard the voice this is the first time that the soul hesitated. The head made a sighing motion as it replied.
[We really can’t hide anything from thee-]
“Could you please stop it with those thee and thy, It feels like I’m listening to a weeb, if you can’t use it properly then use regular speech!”
[Yes mi-]
“And don’t go saying milord or my liege either! Just talk to me in the most normal way you can!”
[got it… then back to the topic at hand. Your thoughts about me being not normal is indeed correct but the fact that I will never betray you is also a fact]
“So you’re saying that we are simply one entity”
With that answer from Xenados, the white soul nodded it’s head but it continued…
[Yes we are one entity, if we had to say it in some other terms I am like a second brain but I’m still your brain nonetheless. And the thing about having my own train of thoughts...]
The white soul hesitated before continuing…
[I am a part of you but not only am I a crystallization of your knowledge I am also a crystallization of all the souls that you have devoured]
The words shocked Xenados as he asked, “Devoured? Souls?”. Of course Xenados has the right to be shocked after all he never had memory of devouring souls but the white soul, his extension, secondary brain dropped a bomb that would shock him even more than he already is.

[That is, you may have not noticed but every time you take over the identity of another… you don’t simply become a part of them or them become a part of you… you eat them that is, they will become nothing but nourishment to your soul]
Xenados was speechless why? Until now he thinks that he’s been becoming a part of the person he takes over then after getting his vengeance the person would then rest in peace as Xenados disappears from the world.
But that thinking was not right, the second brain of his said that he’s been eating other people in other words cannibalism… in a sense something more deeper but it’s a fact that he did eat them. The geniuses of multiple worlds, have all served as nourishment for him and are R.I.P in his belly.
“But… then why did I still feel something like they were with me… and then wait… this body… Xenados didn’t give me even a hint of his presence could I have become a...”
Just when Xenados was about to break into insanity he was saved by the second brain.
[No that’s not it, you should have devoured them and what I said a while ago should have been the result but that isn’t the case]
Xenados’ eyes shone and he looked at the white soul with eyes filled with expectation.
[When you devour instead of taking over you simply store them in you stomach. Using that I show them your goal and with that the souls that you have devoured all turned to-]
“Wait before that how about my first other world? Where you already there?”
Xenados asked the question that bothered him the most after he shook away the guilt of devouring others in a similar situation as him.
[I was here even before you were taken by Vincentius, and was awakened as you were reincarnated into another world]
“Wait if that’s the case then your not a crystallization are you?”
[I am a crystallization but the reason that I was present even before you were taken by Vincentius is a question even I cannot answer]
Xenados can’t force his second brain to answer a question that it can’t answer. After all his second brain may have will but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s still an extension of him that acts based on logic and it’s knowledge but…
“Will?”
Xenados asked the question about will, the biggest reason a soul could live past it’s body’s mortal life is due to it’s will. If his second brain is indeed a crystallization of not only the countless soul’s knowledge and memories but also their wills then…
“Is there a chance that you will go against me if you are a crystallization of their wills as well?”
This thought came up after all a will can lead to the development of a greater conscience that doesn’t act based only on logic but also emotion, etc… if that were the case the chances of Xenados losing his control over his own soul is not something that can be ruled out but the answer of his second brain answered it all.
[The souls were given the reason why you took over after which seeing that you have the same goal he accepts your encroachment. After you finish your job(which is mostly revenge) the soul would leave one will and that is, “I only wish to serve him until this soul of mine is destroyed”. With that kind of will they become shades and roam your space in the void as well as give all their knowledge, memories and experience to me for you to be able to use]
[Did you think that managing thousands of memories is something you are able to do? The very fact that you are able to keep your own personality before you were taken proves my capabilities]
[Finally to be able to make life easier for you and to finish the clean up or everything I even made this system which is the type of system that you understand the most]
“With those words I feel useless”
[Enough of that instead now that you atleast understand a bit let’s start the evolution, what? You want to know more than a bit? You don’t have the luxury of that, I may be able to help you but I am unable to control your body. As such I am forever a system of support, aren’t you happy? Even gods don’t have a soul extension as great as me!]

To Blunt The Sharpest Claw
The Velvet Paw of Asquith Novels are a series of New Fable genre novels that involve cats and dogs and high adventure and romance and espionage and food-fights and hotels and explosions and car chases. With large casts, exotic locations and an absurdity only possible in the absence of human characters, the Velvet Paw of Asquith Novels blend Wind in the Willows with James Bond, though with more cafes and fewer badgers. This submission is the third title in its Morigan Trilogy, beginning two-thirds of the way through the series' longest adventure yet. Here's a quick recount of what's happened so far: When Oscar Teabag-Dooven, a Velvet Paw of Asquith, is ordered to investigate how a mysterious poet, the Ar'dath-Irr, is able to travel instantaneously around the world, two very bad things happen. Firstly, he meets Lydia, an insane librarian who punches everyone in the face, and secondly, the Ar'dath-Irr reveals he is intent on taking over the world. Although this second thing might be considered worse than the first, Oscar feels differently following Lydia’s destruction of a cafe, a library and his face in one afternoon. In comparison, thwarting world domination just seems easier. Along with Binklemitre, a fellow Velvet Paw of Asquith, and Lydia, Oscar infiltrates the Ar’dath-Irr’s realm of dark poetry to discover the dog not only intends wrenching the world apart but has no intention of cleaning up afterwards. As a result, Oscar decides it’s all too hard and goes home to have a bath. After lots of arguing and the sort of food fight that posh restaurants were invented for, Lydia and Binklemitre convince him that they must stop the Ar’dath-Irr for several reasons, one of them quite serious. A vibrant cast of characters collide as Oscar, Lydia and Binklemitre battle the Ar’dath-Irr and his disciples in an adventure involving exploding cafés and appalling hotels, car chases and inadvertent surgery, dreadful poetry, lots of arguments and at least one temper-tantrum, all of which draw the three into dark and convoluted corners of a world they weren’t aware existed. Moreover, any chance of sitting down and discussing things over some buns disappears when Lydia punches the Ar’dath-Irr in the face. This results in her having a psychotic episode and Oscar getting run over by an ambulance. Although Binklemitre suffers neither, he witnesses both, which is almost as dreadful, though not nearly so messy. An enormous battle ensues, followed by a dinner party and then everything explodes.

Our main character (a cat) adventures with his friends and encounters many situations.Author's Note:Hello. This is my first story. Though I hesitate to call it such. It is supposed to be relatively relaxed for the most part. Any constructive criticism is welcome. My updates will be slower than a snail and my chapters are relatively short so deal with it please and don't murder me. Romance should come in later. Thank you~
