Chapter 30

Early the next morning Hiro arose to rising of the sun.

“Leo I’m going to return home for some training.”

Leo opened his mouth in a bit of a yawn showing his long fangs and said, “Yeah you will need it after they way I kicked your butt the other day.”

“You are definitely right but don’t get too cocky. I will be training hard and soon I will be even more powerful than you.”

“Sure you will”, Leo said with a snort.

Leo then rolled over and Hiro stood up and left.

I can’t believe how fast I am running. How I am now is nearly incomprehensible to the way I was when I first came here.

His speed was dramatically different than it was when he first came and stamina had improved as well. In moments he returned to the town. The gate was opened and he entered into the town. The town was just beginning to awake. Most people were still in their beds. Only the farmers were out at this time.

Hiro made his way to the training center for the army and pulled his hammer from his inventory. He grabbed the hammer with his right arm and picked it up. It was a strain but he was able to move the hammer. He decided to put it down and try with his left arm. He picked the hammer up and was able to swing it with his left arm as well. Hiro then decided to take practice swings with the hammer in sets of 3’s. He would swing the hammer down then right to left and switch hands. He did this until he had completed 300 repetitions. His arms seemed to be screaming when he finally put the hammer down.

Due to your rigorous training your strength and vitality have increased by 25 points!

Hiro wiped the sweat from his brow and took a deep breath.

PEEEYUUUUU! Man I really stink. I guess after playing with the ligers and sleeping outside all night will really make you work up a powerful odor. I need to wash off and get this smell off of me. The lake should be a good place to clean up.

He ran to the lake as fast as his legs would carry him.

I better be cautious because there are dangerous animals out here and I didn’t bring any weapons or armor with me other than that hammer and I know I can’t fight with that yet.

He used his detect presence skill and determined that things were safe.

I can’t sense any power levels anywhere near here so it should be safe.

He undressed a dove into the water. The water was cool and he felt refreshed. Hiro laid his head back and began to float. He looked up at the sky. The sun was out and the sky was clear blue with some fluffy white clouds. It was beautiful.

I feel much better and I definitely don’t stink anymore.

“GROOOOWWWLLL!” Hiro’s stomach made a loud noise.

I guess I need to go get some food.

Hiro got out of the water and got dressed so he could return to the town. Once he dressed himself he began walking towards home when suddenly he felt the presence of some animals. The powers began to creep closer and closer to him.

What kind of enemy are they? There are around 20 of them. Should I run or stand and fight? If I fight I definitely can’t let them surround me. Well their power isn’t that great so I think I should be able to manage.

Suddenly, the enemies came and showed themselves. They looked like ants except their bodies were about a meter tall and 2 meters in length. In addition, that had some powerful teeth that protruded from the front of their heads that looked like pincers.

I better be wary of those pincers and ants are very strong. Usually they can lift things 50 times their own weight so throwing me won’t be a problem for these things. I have to keep my distance.

Hiro released his ki in order to strengthen his body. The scene became more and more intense. The ants stood still as he readied himself. Hiro could feel the sweat dripping down his face as the ants came within his attack range.

Why aren’t the attacking? What is going on? Is it my power? Is my power so strong that it is actually intimidating them? Maybe I should release more.

Hiro tightened his fists and spread his legs so that they were shoulder width apart. He then began to gather his energy.

“HAAAAAAAA!!!” he screamed as his power began to rise.

When he released 20% of his power the ants began to slowly back away.

I don’t want to get into a needless fight especially with no weapon or armor. I need to release more of my power.

“HAAAAAAAA!!”

I will increase the effects by adding my Hero’s Battle Cry skill.

His power continued to rise. It was now at 50% coupled with the intimidation of his Hero’s Battle Cry Skill, the ants turned around and began to run away.

You have learned the skill intimidation.

Because of your increase in power, some enemies will no longer attack you as they fear the power you exhibit. This skill will increase with the amount of power you gain. As it grows you will be able to intimidate more powerful enemies and you will be able to focus your intimidation technique on specific enemies.

That is cool now I can avoid fighting small fries and go straight for the powerful enemies! Well enough of being out here I need to get back home so that I can meet the dwarves.

Hiro lowered his power back down and ran home. Once in town he went straight the dwaves’ blacksmith shop. Hiro opened the door to the blacksmith shop and the dwarves greeted him with smiles. The dwarves said that his weapon would not be ready until tomorrow at the earliest. Hiro smiled and thanked them for their hard work and left. Hiro went to the restaurant and ate breakfast then went home to ready himself for the trip with Foria.

Hiro heard a knock at his door and went to answer it. Foria was there ready to go. She looked very excited. She told Hiro that Korin had agreed to let the army go to crush the hobgoblin stronghold. Hiro smiled and they left out towards the gate of the town.

“Did you decide what animal would be the best pet for you?”

She smiled and said, “I was thinking a Liger like Leo?”

“WHATTT!!?” replied Hiro.

“Yes I’m a hunter and what creature is a more powerful hunter than a liger?”

“I guess that is true but I don’t know if Leo will approve of this. He is the alpha and he was pretty adamant about his pride members not being involved in the war.”

“What do you suggest then?” asked Foria.

“I was thinking a wolf.” Replied Hiro “Wolves are natural born hunters.”

“I had my heart set on a liger but if you say Leo will be upset then I won’t fight you on it”

They got their things and set out for the forest. About a quarter of a day’s journey they arrived in the forest where the originally met. Hiro used his detect presence ability and found a pack of wolves. He also noticed a very large presence but he was not sure what it was. It was even larger than a troll.

Hmmm… the presence is pretty powerful but it is a pretty large distance away so I won’t tell Foria. I don’t want to alarm her. I will come back when Leo and I are together and take on whatever the creature was.

They headed towards the wolves that were in the eastern part of the forest. Along the way the killed seven night vipers, 12 forest rats and 4 forest panthers. Hiro really didn’t do much. He always placed the bodies in his bag so that he could skin them later. By the time he readied his attack Foria had slayed the beasts with her arrows. She was truly impressive.

They finally reached the area where he felt the wolves. The couple looked and saw large wolves. They varied in color but they were all about 1.5 meters tall with muscular bodies and thick fur. The also had large powerful jaws and thick padded paws.

“Do you see one that you connect with?” asked Hiro.

“That one”, said Foria as she pointed to a wolf that was completely white.

Hiro nodded thinking that it was a great choice. There were over a dozen wolves down there and they looked strong so Hiro used his analyze ability.

IFrost WolfType:BeastHealth:4,000 / 4,000Mana:500/500From the forests in cold northern areas, these wolves are nearly immune to ice and water based attacks. They are deadly with their strong jaws and powerful paws. They hunt prey with their extremely keen hearing and sense of smell. They are extremely loyal to their pack.

“We are here to get you a partner so we don’t want to harm these animals if too badly” said Hiro.

“I understand I will wound them if necessary but I will not kill any of them” replied Foria.

“That is fine. I will heal any of them that get injured.”

“I will fight them and draw out the leader which seems like the white one. You support from the rear.”

“Got it!”

He walked into the area where the wolves were. The wolves began to growl at the intruder. Hiro strengthen his body with his ki and dropped his sword. The wolves darted at him but their movements were too slow to actually hit Hiro. He moved through them dodging those who attacked. He kept walking and he was suddenly surrounded by the wolves.

Hiro smiled and let out his Liger’s Roar ability. The sound was so powerful you could almost see Leo their roaring. The wolves backed down in fear except for the all-white wolf. It came down from under the tree where it was resting. It began moving toward Hiro growling and flashing its teeth. Its icy blue eyes stared at Hiro with great intensity. Hiro motioned for Foria to come close so she came down from in the tree where she was perched and rushed to Hiro’s side.

“It is strong so I’m going to have to fight it and weaken it before I can tame it. Stay behind me! “ said Hiro.

She backed up and Hiro began fighting with the wolf.

Its speed is amazing. It may actually be faster than Leo before his evolution.

Hiro was unable to do any damage to the speedy wolf as it darted in and out. He simply could only dodge the wolf’s attack in a high-speed exchange of blows.

Unlike Leo it is not balanced. It is simply a fast set of attacks. The blows that I am blocking don’t really have any power. So I’ll just let it land an attack and then I I will end the battle with one hard counter.

The wolf darted in and jumped to grab Hiro’s wrist. It’s powerful jaws clamped down on his gauntlet like a vice. It was pulling as if it was going to rip Hiro’s arm off. Fortunately for Hiro his abilities and armor kept him from taking major damage. While the wolf was tugging on his arm Hiro gathered his ki for his ki strike attack. The wolf ferociously pulled at his arm but did not realize the danger it was in. Hiro charged is attack and hit the wolf right in the base of the head the wolf went limp.

Did I over do it? No it is still breathing it is just knocked out.

“Foria, place your hand on the wolf”

Hiro activated his tame beast ability.

Foria now has a pet

Through taming several beasts you are now possess the job, beast master.

Having this job allows you to tame and manage more than 1 beast at a time. At your present level 2 beasts is all that you can manage. With improvement you will be able to have up to 3 beasts at a time. It also allows you to speak to animals if you have tamed one of their species.

Hiro cast heal on the wolf and it woke up. He saw the wolf pull some of Foria’s ki. Foria was excited. She now had a pet.

“What will you call it?” asked Hiro.

“Foria replied, her name is Amaterasu”

“Another female? She was definitely strong to withstand my Liger’s Roar. Train her well and grow strong together.” Said Hiro.

Amaterasu got up from injuries.

“Amaterasu I am sorry for hurting you.”

She ran up to Hiro and licked his face. He tried to fight it but she overpowered him and he fell on his back. The playful wrestling match continued for a few moments, then Amaterasu went back to Foria.

Hiro’s Liger’s Roar ability was wearing off so they decided to go before they had to battle the wolves. They quickly left and went back through the forest. They killed six more forest panthers and Foria even shot down a three of bloody vultures.

Hiro stuffed them all in the bag except for one of each that he let Amaterasu eat.

As they came upon the edge of the forest several forest rats jumped. There were about 10 of them. Amaterasu growled showing her razor sharp fangs. Foria motioned to her to go and in a flash she had mercilessly slaughtered all of the rats. The snow white fur around her mouth was stained in blood. Hiro also found 80 petals of the blood rose to help him make the potions for Master Matsuro on his way back.

Foria laughed and said, “You will need a bath when we get back”. Hiro grabbed the bodies and stuffed them in his bag for skinning later. Then they exited. They felt a little tired so they rested for a few moments before heading back to the town.

The sun had begun to set as the three warriors, Hiro, Foria, and Amaterasu, walked up to the town gate. The gate was opened and the entered into the town. Two soldiers came rushing up to them. The soldiers bowed and gave Hiro thanks for their weapons and armor. Hiro smiled.

This army is beginning to look more powerful with their new equipment.

Foria asked, “What did you do?”

Hiro replied, “I knew we had an army and it needs equipment so I took all of the damaged equipment from the skirmish against the orcs in the north and brought it back and repaired it.”

“You said that was over 500 pieces of armor, weapons, and shields! That must have cost a fortune!”

“No because I repaired it myself. Now with the hunt that we had today I can put money towards the weapon I brought back for myself”

“How much do you need?”

“The dwarves said it would cost 25 gold for the weapon.”

“That must be one heck of a weapon.”

“I hope so. I’m going to skin these animals then go to the goods the goods shop to sell the proceeds from today’s hunt.”

Foria said her goodbye and Amaterasu licked Hiro’s face then they walked off. Hiro went home and skinned all of the animals. He gained 25 pieces of light leather and 8 pieces of light hide. Then he walked to the goods store and entered. Upon entering he saw the attendant who smiled at him.

“Welcome Hiro, what did you bring me today?”

“I brought you some animals from the forest” said Hiro as he pulled the carcasses of the night vipers, bloody vultures, forest panthers, and forest rats and laid them on the ground.

The attendant seemed pleased.

“These are not bad but not as good of quality as what you gave me the other day. So I won’t be able to offer you as much as you got previoiusly.”

Hiro frowned but he knew every little bit would help. The attendant gave him five gold coins for all of the animal parts.

Hiro smiled and thanked him.

I thought that the profit would be less today because the monsters that we fought were much weaker than the previous day’s catch. I will need to fight some stronger enemies if I want to get the weapon.

Hiro left the store and looked around. It was very dark but his stomach was growling. He decided to eat something before going to bed so he went to the restaurant. He was met at the door by the waitress who smiled as usual.

“There no special today “ said the waitress.

“I will just have a bowl of beef ramen and vegetables.”

He waited patiently thinking of what the weapon and shield the dwarves were making would look like. He envisioned a long sword that was electrified and burning at the same time. He began to smile thinking that he would be even more formidable with something like that. How tough would he look?

In the middle of his fantasy the waitress came over and brought his food. He said thank you and said a quick prayer giving thanks for his food. Hiro then ate. The noodles tasted perfect and the meat was so tender it seemed like it melted in his mouth. The vegetables were so fresh and they were steamed just right. It was amazing.

Due to eating nutritious food your vitality has increased by 5 points.

I had almost forgotten that each time I eat I receive a boost to myvitality. This probably accounts for why my vitality has grown more than any of my other stats.

Hiro left a tip for the waitress and left the store. He felt really good about how the town had improved. The new shops and how the people were now able to live off of the food that they grew.

He decided to go home as tomorrow would be the day he went to battle the hobgoblins and free Leo’s enslaved pride members.

Foria hasn’t been in battle for a while and she is still wearing the same equipment she had from the forest when I met her. If she is going to be in battle I will need to give her something a little bit better. That’s it I can use the skins and hide I got from when we went hunting earlier.

Hiro sat down and began working on the hides he got from the creatures they skinned. After an hour he created a set of studded armor including a cloak, pants, gloves, bracer, and tunic. It was a fine set of armor. All the pieces had improved abilities from the original leather pieces he made and they gave a +2 stat bonus to agility.

Foria will be pleased with this. Hiro placed his armor and weapons on the rack and then went to his bed where he quickly fell asleep.
