Chapter 5

The next morning Hiro woke up feeling refreshed. His body seemed to have completely healed from the night viper’s attack. His ribs felt fine and even the bruising he should have felt was completely gone. On top of the miraculous healing he felt even stronger than he was before. He decided to continue with his new routine of morning calisthenics and unarmed practice and weapon practice.

Ding! Due to your training you strength rises 2 points, speed 2 points, vitality 2 points.

Ding! You gained 1 level in sword mastery

Ding! You gain 1 level in unarmed combat

Hiro felt that stats and skills were good and with the bonuses he got from grinding his skills he was way stronger than the monsters that someone of his level should be able to fight. He still felt that he should also truly understand combat so to practice he began to imagine the night viper. He concentrated and little by little the image of the snake became clear in front of him. Those piercing eyes and muscular body. Even the venomous fangs were there.

His ability to imagine this things was truly awesome. The attacks from the snake were on a whole other level from all of the enemies he had faced so far. He moved and dodged to avoid the imaginary attacks and as he tried to get close the snake would move itself out of range. He became frustrated with not being able to kill the snake so he decided to go out and clear his head by hunting.

He went out and moved around for a bit before he noticed there were about 6 forest rats in a clearing. He decided to use his new blade on them. He jumped out from behind a bush and slashed one straight through its back. It died instantly. The others began to run but they could not escape. His training had increased his agility so his overall speed had risen to a level that he could easily chase them down. He cornered them to force them to attack. He allowed them to scratch and claw at him because he wanted to keep grinding his endurance. As they attacked he continued to parry or let them get grazing attacks on him. Then little by little he cut them down with little effort. He knew that these beasts would not give him the level increase as they didn't do enough damage. However every little bit of experience helped so he continued his grinding. He took the carcasses and placed them in his bag so that he could skin them later.

After clearing his head with the rats he returned to his image training. He closed his eyes and the picture of the snake from the night before entered his mind. He couldn’t help but shutter from those piercing eyes. He felt like this thing was truly a harbinger of death. He readied his sword and began the battle between the snake and himself. He charged in but each time he attacked he could not cover the ground fast enough to avoid both the fangs and the tail.

"I need a faster attack." Hiro said to himself

Next he increased his speed and attack using Hero's Courage. Then he dug his feet down in the ground and concentrated on making this attack as fast as he could possibly go. As soon as the snake began its next attack, Hiro charged forward. He moved like he was shot out of a gun. This time he avoided the fangs but the tail just grazed him. This was a good attempt because he discovered he was on the right track.

“faster, faster, I have got to move even faster”, he thought.

He readied himself to increase his speed even further. This time when the fangs came he sank down into his fighting stance he concentrated on using every muscle in his legs to their utmost ability.and he launched himself. He could not believe the speed he was moving at. It was almost like the snake had stopped moving. The head could not recoil and the tail never even made it close to him before he slashed the snake’s head clean off.

"Wow that seems pretty useful. Now I should be able fight a lot better if I face that snake again."

Hiro went back and began skinning the rats. Hiro skinned the forest rats and gained 6 pieces of light leather.

Hiro decided to try his hand at making some more armor pieces. He took his skinning knife and began to cut out the pattern of his hand and poked holes around the edges. Then he took the whiskers from the rats and stitched them together. It was as if his hands knew what to do.

He created another glove so that he had a pair.

After equipping his gloves and cooking some more food he decided to return to his training with imaginary snake. Hiro wanted to practice a little with his new technique. Hiro imagined the snake and it appeared. He darted in and out avoiding its tail and fangs. He then saw an opening and activated his dashing slash ability. His feet dug into the ground and his body exploded forward as if he was shot out of a cannon. This time the ground had actually sunk in where he had accelerated from. The snake was unable to react to his attack and was killed immediately.

Hiro hadn’t noticed but Foria had awoken while he was battling the imaginary snake. She was in awe of his fighting ability.She wondered what was he fighting to push him to move and battle so hard. When he activated his dashing slash ability She actually lost sight of him for a second. She had never seen anyone move so fast.

“Good morning Foria. How do you feel?

“Much better now, thank you for getting that flower”

“It was nothing. I was glad to help.”

They talked for a while and Foria told Hiro that she was trained to be an archer. She said that she had won numerous challenges and was experienced in hunting using a bow. She said that she also used some knives when she would get into close quarters combat but she was not as good with knives as her bow. In order to assess her abilities, Hiro asked Foria to spar with him in hand to hand combat so that they could practice. She agreed and he removed his armor down to his shirt and shorts that he had come into the world with. We will fight until one of us yields agreed. Foria nodded.

"Are you prepared to lose to a girl?"

"We'll see about that!"

They squared off outside of the cave in a small round area that was primarily just grass with no trees. A slight wind blew Foria's hair wihipped slightly across her face. She grabbed a small metal object from her pants and tied her hair up quickly. Hiro smiled. “Are you ready?” Foria nodded and the battle began. Hiro darted in throw a couple of jabs towards her face. Foria parried them with her front hand as she step back to maintain distance. Then she returned with a solid kick to his midsection. Hiro winced as the kick was very strong. "How was this kick that powerful and she is still recovering from the poison? Not bad!”

“I was trained well”, she said with a smile.

She charged forward and Hiro began to examine her as she began a flurry of attacks. She mixed in kicks, punches, and even some elbows. At first Hiro was having some difficulty with the amount of attacks and their speed so he was taking a few blows from her,

Now, Hiro had grown accustomed to her attacks and he was for his counter attack. He began to bounce on his toes and throw some quick jabs. He noticed that she only used her front hand to parry the attacks, so he threw in a feint. She moved her hand up near her face to parry. She fell for the feint and he followed up with a front kick to the stomach that made her stumble. Immediately he pressed his advantage and rushed in. He through 2 quick jabs. The first was blocked the second hit its mark on her chin. Her head lifted slightly exposing her chin. Hiro through an uppercut that went through her guard but stopped it right before it her on the chin.

"I yield"

“That was great! You are really tough.”

“I’m tough? What about you? You just beat me down. Well, I’m still not yet at 100% because my leg is still healing from

being injured."

"Why don 't you rest then you don't have to train anymore if you're not healed."

"No I haven't had that much fun in a while let's keep practicing.” Hiro nodded in agreement. A beautiful girl wanted to keep doing something with him? There was no way he would say no.

They fought for several more rounds of unarmed combat. Foria was extremely fast and well trained in hand to hand combat. If not for his superior strength, prediction ability, and her injury she would probably have defeated Hiro. He learned much from her tactics and he had a great sense of her abilities now.

Ding! Unarmed Combat level increased +2

Ding! Endurance increased +1

For the rest of the morning Hiro trained doing more calisthenics and the basics of combat. He gained increases in his basic stats but not in his skill. He attributed it to the fact that his skill were at a level that they would need to be used in combat to increase.

Foria rested as she was exhausted from sparring with Hiro and she was still feeling the after effects of the poison she had been infected with. Hiro grabbed some short sticks and used his hunting knife to sculpt them into a handle. Then he carefully placed the hollowed out fangs from the night viper onto them.

Ding! You created Snake Daggers.

10% chance of poisoning an enemy.

Finally he used his whetstone to sharpen them.

Snake daggers gain a +2 to damage due to sharpening.

Hiro gave them to Foria since he did not have a bow or arrows for her to use. While she rested Hiro went out looking for food. He decided he had eaten enough of rats and panther meat. He began making his way towards the lake. Once he got to the edge of the lake he looked around he saw some bubbles popping on the surface of the water. Maybe there are some fish in there. He removed his armor and ran to the edge in hopes of catching small crabs near the beach. This was unsuccessful because none were around so he jumped into the water with his spear in hand to go looking for fish in the lake.

The water was cool and refreshing. He swam out a little ways and began to see numerous different colored fish. As he moved towards a school of fish that looked similar to tuna they were startled and quickly swam away. He tried to swim with them but they were way too fast. “This is going to be harder than I thought.” Hiro swam to the surface and took a deep breath. Then dove back down to see if he could spot some more fish.

Ding! You sense a dangerous presence!

Hiro quickly looked around. He knew he was at a great disadvantage in the water so he quickly began swimming towards the beach.

Ding! Swimming level increased +1

As he frantically swam forward he looked back and saw a dark figure moving towards him very quickly. He could not make out the shape but he knew by the way his sense presence was going off in his head that it was dangerous. He swam with everything he had. Kicking his feet flailing his arms. He knew he had to get out of the water or he was dead.

Ding! Swimming level increased +1

He was nearing the edge of the lake so he could stand up and fight. The beast was getting closer. Finally, Hiro reached the land and just as he stood up a large mouth displaying several rows of razor sharp teeth was open. Hiro quickly took his spear and stuffed it into the beast’s mouth. It roared in pain as its mouth was impaled on the spear as its powerful jaws crushed the wooden handle on the spear. Hiro could now see the beast that had tried to claim his life. He inspected it

RocodileType:Guardian MonsterHealth:14,900 / 15,000Mana:0/0The guardian of the lake. This beast has scales as hard as iron and teeth that can rip through it. It is very aggressive and will not allow any intruders in its territory.

The beast was 8 meters long with tough grayish leathery skin. Its skin looked almost like it was made out of a bunch of rocks. Its tail was about 2 meters and it whipped back and forth creating indentations in the ground. Hiro knew that one bite from those jaws or one hit from that tail would be the end of him and he definitely could not defeat it at this time with his equipment. His spear was wrecked and he had only done 100 points of damage out of 15,000 health points.

In his head he thought, "This beast probably only attacked because I was in the water. If I leave its territory then it would probably leave me alone."

He faced the beast and began to back away slowly. It hissed at Hiro but it did not advance. His hypothesis was correct. He continued to back away and then the Rocodile moved back to the lake and disappeared. He fell down and breathed a sigh of relief. After a moment or two he stood up and grabbed his armor. He no longer had his spear but he was still alive.

"I guess I won't have any seafood right now but I will return when I'm stronger and have better equipment to face this foe."

He ran back to the forest and found some rats on his way back to the cave. He slayed them and made his way back to the cave.

Hiro returned to the cave and told Foria about his encounter with the rocodile at the lake. He told her of the beast as he cooked dinner which consisted of some rat meat that he cooked with some ringed apples on a skewer. He cut them into pieces and stuck them on the stick alternating between slices of the ringed apple and rat meat.

Ding! You created rat kabobs

Ding! Cooking skill increased by 1

He and Foria ate them and talked a little as the sun went down. Before it got dark Hiro went out and looked for some more of the flowers with the healing ability. He looked in the place he found them previously. He looked around and scanned the area. He noticed several flowers with a faint glow about them.

“This must be my herbalism skill helping me find important plants”

He ran up to the area and looked at the flowers. There were 3 different ones. First was the flower with the healing properties. The second was a flower with a yellow center and 5 green petals. The third was a pale green plant with 3 large leaves. He inspected all 3.

Blood rose

A red colored rose with healing properties.

Sunlion

A plant that overflows with flavor that can be used in cooking.

Mint

A plant that can be used in cooking to give things more flavor.

He grabbed a few handfuls of each and returned to the cave.

Ding! Herbalism increased a level.

He found Foria already resting as the sun went down. He could believe this beautiful girl was sleeping so close to him. Hiro day dreamed that he and Foria were on a date back in his world. He laughed because pretty girls like her would never even talk to him. He put a couple more logs on the fire and closed his eyes.
