Chapter 9 – The Guild

Opening the Inn door, Ryo told Melinda that they will be back

“Let’s go!” (Ryo)

“Yeah!” (Reena)

Surprisingly the guild is not that too far off from Tarou inn, in fact it is just 4 buildings to the west. Disappointing for Ryo as he didn’t have any chance to buy anything on the way. As for both of them, even though they didn’t hold any conversation, Reena looks very happy as she got herself a new male friend. She was walking ahead guiding Ryo to show where the guild is.

Ryo were checking out the environment of the village, even though he could see a few of the people throwing rubbish anyhow, it’s weird that the place still looks clean. He just realize that a few of the buildings is made up of stone, showing how wealthy they are, furthermore the people that were passing by him could be split into categories, nobility – merchant – wealthy people – average (common) – poor people – slave. Assuming that a person wearing a collar that was being ordered by another person is not a slave than he don’t know what it would be called as. Just a few moments before he reached the guild, he saw that there were a couple of people gathering at the corner of the guild building, they were frowning and some of them were crying.

‘Is the guild, a dangerous place? Just in case, let’s be careful. I wonder what the requirement to join the guild.’ (Ryo)

“Hey Reena, before we go in, do you know what’s the requirement to join the guild?” (Ryo) ‘Of course I will respectfully decline if they ever need to check whether you are a criminal or not.’

“If I am not wrong, it would cost you about 1 silver and you would need to drop a drip of your blood so that they would be able to know your name, age and race, well that is three years ago when I first join in” (Reena)

‘Three years ago? So she joined when she was 12 years old, such a courageous girl.’ (Ryo)

“Well honestly for my case, I hope they wouldn’t check the infamy.” (Ryo)

“Well, they probably won’t as the guards at the front gate is very strict about checking everyone even after knowing the person for so long.” (Reena)

“Well that’s explain why you came in the inn late, Sigh, though I can’t believe that I would need to sneak in every time I want to go in to the village” (Ryo)

“But isn’t your skill, is good enough?” (Reena)

“Though I don’t really want to use that skill too much, it kinds of creep me out for some reason.” (Ryo)

“Not sure what you are talking about but here we are!” (Reena)

Reena point her finger towards the building while welcoming Ryo, she continued on and push the guild door as if she had done it many times before. Ryo followed Reena in, upon opening the door he felt as if everyone in the place were looking and checking him out, but after seeing that he is not holding or wearing anything powerful they look away.

‘I think I’ve just entered a weird place.’ (Ryo)

“Hey come on, don’t just stand there” (Reena)

Ryo nodded his head and continue to follow Reena, as they approach to the counter there was a queue of 3 people and the person attending them is a women. She is wearing a blue classic blouse, dark green hair with a hairstyle of asymmetric cut. It is hard to judge her body line as she was far away from him but looking at the people being attended looking happy, probably she has a good form, or it is probably due to how they receive their pay. They stood at the queue at most three minutes before they got their turn.

“Welcome how may I help you? Oh Reena!” (Guild Lady)

“Hey Yui how’s the surrounding? Any mission for me?” (Reena)

“Its fine Reena, unfortunately there’s no job for you but you can grab any mission that is place at the board as usual, and mind introduce your friend here?” (Guild Lady - Yui)

“Arh! I almost forget, Hahahaha… this is Ryo he wants to join the guild.” (Reena)

Ryo softly muttered ‘muscle brain’ but Reena heard it and glared at Ryo, they continued looking at each other till Yui, the guild lady, interrupted their small world.

“Ahem! Welcome Ryo, it will cost you 3 silver and you need to drop a drip of your blood on this status plate, alright?” (Yui)

“Eh, ah yea it’s alright, here you go.” (Ryo)

Ryo gave Yui 3 silver and borrowing a dagger from Reena he made a small cut on his right index finger. What appeared on the status plate made him and Reena shocked.

“Is, is something wrong?” (Yui)

“Ah, no, no there’s nothing wrong hahaha, haha” (Ryo) ‘Please I beg you Reena, please don’t create a scene here’

“What!! Your…. Your…” (Reena)

‘Shit I need to shut this muscle brain mouth quickly!’ (Ryo)

Reena had attracted almost all of the people in the guild, if Reena had said that Ryo 5000 infamy suddenly become 0 it would definitely create a scene. Before Ryo manage to shut Reena up, she said totally different than what he expected.

“Your ...Age… You are 15!? We ARE THE SAME AGE!? Damn I can’t believe this!?” (Reena)

“Huh?! ……. Sigh….” (Ryo) ‘Thinking about it, so that’s why I got the feeling that I was shorter than usual, oh well at least this muscle brain didn’t see the changes in my infamy.’

“Then … all this time, I thought you were older than me, you… Take back my politeness!” (Reena)

“You didn’t ask, and what does ‘taking back your politeness even meant?’ muscle brain.” (Ryo)

“MOOOUUU!!!” (Reena)

Stomping her feet, Reena walk away from Ryo while pouting and decided to look at the mission board to see if there’s any mission that is suitable for her, even though she met with Ryo, she didn’t think Ryo would want to continue being her companion.

“Thanks, by the way is there anything that I would need to look out for?” (Ryo)

“The basic rules if you haven’t read it yet? I could help you out.” (Yui)

“Oh sure, that muscle brain didn’t tell me anything.” (Ryo)

“Muscle brain?” (Yui)

“That young lady over there” (Ryo)

Ryo pointed at Reena that was still busy looking over the board, knowing that Reena was the muscle brain she began giggling to herself.

“Hihihi…Ahem anyway first rule is that the person may only apply for the mission that is suitable for him or her, take for example you are currently in rank 10, so you can only take rank 10 missions. You may only take a higher rank if you are in a party of a leader that is a higher rank than you. Ranking up depends on the amount of contribution points, from now on, anything that you have defeated will be recorded down, remember anything, thus if you had kill any innocent people it will forever be recorded down, this recording is also useful when you accidentally had lost the prove of the monster that you have defeated. You may use the status plate to prove yourself, understand?” (Yui)

“Hmm good enough, please continue” (Ryo)

“For the second rule, you should not kill any innocent or criminal that have lesser than 100 infamy points, if you do, your infamy will rise triple the amount, and for the question that you may ask, what if the individual attack first, the status plate will turn green to indicate that you may allowed to kill him or her. Third rule, there can only be 8 people in your party not including slaves, if there are more than that, the status plate would not complete any mission that you may have completed and you may need to redo it again if it is able to redo or else there will be penalty, but it will still calculate in the contribution points but only 10% over the total party. General question on knowing how many contribution points you need would be 1000 to rank up from 10 to 9, continue on it will be 5000 to 8, 15000 to 7, 35000 to 6, 55000 to 5, 100 000 to 4, 250 000 to 3, 750 000 to 2 and 1 500 000 to 1, understand?”

“Oh.. Yup I understood, is there anymore rules that I need to know?”(Ryo)

“Well there are a few but I don’t think you may need to know of it for now, you may go now” (Yui)

“Okay, by the way can I create a party?” (Ryo)

“Yes sure, but who are you going to recruit?” (Yui)

“Of course muscle brain, and put her to the leader spot and name the party as ...” (Ryo)

Coincidentally Yui also join in and say the name of the party

“Muscle – Brain!” (Ryo & Yui)

“Woah… Hahaha and here I thought you would like to keep being professional while doing your job” (Ryo)

“My boss is not here and it is not that normal to see someone like you, which would like to partner up with Reena there. Well supposedly you are not able to just put a person without their consent but if it is Reena and on top of that she’s the leader I close one eye for this time, it’s been long enough for her to be going mission solo anyway.”(Yui)

“Eh? Here I thought she is popular around here” (Ryo)

“Well she is popular alright, due to her strength she is too strong for the people to match thus anyone that follow her will feel that they are a burden to her, and also the reason of her rampaging when being drunk.” (Yui)

“Er… Okay, quick decision may I decline the party?” (Ryo)

“You may NOT!” (Yui)

Yui started smiling, showing not her professional smile but a genuine one.

“Fine…” (Ryo)

Ryo started walking towards Reena, he started to grin thinking what would Reena reactions would be if she knows that she was partied with him. Ryo tap Reena shoulder to grab her attention.

“Oh Ryo, it seems you are done, I guess we will be going our separate ways now. Oh by the way the rank 10 mission is over there, I could help you choose if you want?” (Reena)

“Nah, by the way what’s your rank?” (Ryo)

“Rank 6, there are not much monster in this village, I would need to go to another town or near the beastmen village to get more contribution points.” (Reena)

“Hmm… Rank 6, how about this one, defeat 15 Ogre around Hans Route?” (Ryo)

“?? Ryo, you can’t, didn’t Yui should have told you that you can’t take a mission lower than your rank unless…..” (Reena)

“Yup bingo! You guess right” (Ryo)

“Ehhh!? …. You….. Are you serious!?” (Reena)

“Here you go! Our very own party, I even made you the leader!” (Ryo)

“Really!? You… do that for me….. Thanks! Let’s see” (Reena)

Reena happily take a look at the party plate, after a while she started shaking, Ryo thought that she is shaking due to being overwhelmed by happiness but he was wrong.

“Ryo……….” (Reena)

“Yes? I know you are happy, why don’t we accept this mission first and go back to the inn to rest for the day.” (Ryo)

“RYO YOU ARE AN IDIOT!!!~” (Reena)

“Eh? Gobuurrrrr!!”(Ryo)

Reena shouted while she punched Ryo on the face, she continue punching Ryo even after he was down on the ground. Even though Ryo were being punched he didn’t feel any damage except the first one, looking at Reena face that was a mix of happiness and irritation while she continue to hit Ryo. After a few seconds or minutes being punch, Reena stop what she was doing as she suddenly realizes that everyone were watching her. Being embarrassed she quickly walked out from the guild.

After Ryo stood up he apologize to the rest of the people that were staring at them, some of them even cheered for him. Ryo hastily chase after Reena before he lost her, who knows where she might run to when she was embarrassed like that.
