Chapter 44: Improvement

Fang’s predictions turned out to be wrong, because as eleven days passed by, Blue came to class daily, no matter how much Fang advised him not to. Soon enough, Weiss also discovered Fang’s intentions, and felt gleeful inside; this dumb kid really wanted to convince the temperamental girl.

However, Scarlett must have come to this class for this roommate of hers, as she would find Meteor simply useless. No matter how much Weiss looked, he couldn’t find what attracted her to Fang.

After a couple of attempts at dissuading Blue, Fang didn’t bring it up again. His roommate would get angry and refuse to talk with him, so Fang decided to help Blue as much as he can.

Dusk set in, and the practice area was free for all of class eight to use. Because Fang had defeated Ray, no one from the other classes dared to bother them.

Fang came with Blue to the field, and asked him, “Blue, are you practicing anything important?”

There wasn’t much to practice, as training at this stage didn’t have any significance for Blue. “No, why?”

“Well, I thought we could discuss what we learned in today’s class, what do you think?”

Blue shrugged. “Okay.”

Their discussion would’ve shocked anyone else in the college.

Fang, with the knowledge of the excellent theories he learned from the ten elders, had an extensive understanding of how the technique was formed, and shortcuts to form the energy required for the skill. Because he didn’t want his roommate to stumble and give up due to the difficulty of Meteor, Fang was going to suggest what he knew to make sure Blue didn’t take the wrong path while learning it. Yet, Blue was proud, and it was unlikely that he’d take the lecture from Fang, so Fang proposed a discussion to indirectly teach him.

--- --- ---

Certainly not stupid, Blue understood Fang’s intention quickly. Instead of appreciating the kindness Fang offered, she thought it was comical.

Teach me? Who do you think I am? And that 5th grade technique, I’ve already learned it, even gaining a rare complement from that old man.

Okay, if you want to brag about how much you comprehend Meteor, let me show you who really knows the most about that skill!

Thus, within a minute of Fang’s explanation, Blue interrupted him and offered an alternative method to forming the energy.

Once Blue finished talking, Fang fell deeply into thought, and after a while exclaimed, “Blue, I didn’t know that you had such good insight into this skill!”

Even when he compared to what he came up with, Blue’s theory and method was slightly better than his own improvisations.

No wonder Blue got into Garden College, Fang didn’t think that other people at his age had this high level of perception.

Countless people had given higher praise to Blue, but hearing it for the first time from Fang, it felt more satisfying than the other complements she had gotten – it was probably because Fang thought she was an ordinary person. Actually, she didn’t know what had changed; she no longer truly despised Fang.

Her knowledge came from her father, who taught her using his own interpretation of the passed down theory to learn Meteor. Of course it was going to be superior, after all, her father was rather powerful.

But seconds later, Fang followed up. “What you said is pretty good, but I think there’s several places for improvement.”

Improvement?

Blue got angry all of a sudden.

Fang, you talk big, you think you can improve this polished method further?

Although on the surface she treated her old man quite arrogantly, her innermost thoughts actually was the opposite. She was extremely respectful of her father’s strength, and hearing Fang propose that her father’s theory could be enriched more caused her to feel insulted.

Enraged, she shouted, “Okay, tell me which points can be improved!”

“Umm, when you said that some of energy should be concentrated at a single point, wouldn’t it be better to form it with multiple, spread out points of contact? And also…” Fang explained his own opinions, and though Blue was initially annoyed, her eyes soon changed, showing surprise.

These points that Fang said were very reasonable, and appeared to be more through than her father’s method, although she didn’t want to acknowledge it. After all, her father’s ability couldn’t be questioned. Yet, he was only a single talented person. Compared to Fang’s study by a collection of ten supreme experts, there wasn’t a shred of doubt that he had innovative viewpoints on the formation of energy.

Like this, Blue fell lost in thought as Fang continued to describe his interpretation of how Meteor should be used.

The places that he advanced on, would truly add to the technique and perhaps would even increase the power of the skill.

It seemed that the method her father taught wasn’t impeccable!

Seeing that his roommate silent for a very long time, Fang worriedly asked, “What’s wrong?”

Startled, Blue fell off balance, but quickly recovered and looked at Fang. “Nothing, it really seems like this skill could be improved a bit!”

“If it was useful to you, let’s keep meeting after class and keep discussing,” Fang said happily.

“Let’s do that,” Blue readily agreed. Unlike before, she was genuinely intrigued, and wanted to discover what other opinions Fang had.

--- --- ---

The morning sun lit up the solitary figure on the wide road. A single exchange with a guard was all it took for the person to enter the small castle. Stairs were climbed, and a certain heavy door swung open.

“Old man, I have an issue related with an energy skill.”

Upon hearing that enchanting voice, Kingsley smiled. “This is the first time you’ve taken the initiative to ask about energy – did the moon turn blue?”

“What, is it that rare?” The young beauty coughed. “It’s to do with your own technique that you’ve taught me.”

She proceeded to explain what Fang told her about the points of improvement to Meteor, and boasted, “That method you’ve taught me to use the skill isn’t the best!”

Kingsley was a little stunned, but color filled his face again. “Daughter, it might seem that way, though did you forget what I often said? There’s no limit to how high martial arts could go, it’ll forever be endless and always have a chance to get stronger! You’ve improved that technique, and it’s only to your benefit!”

“Save your lecturing for later,” the girl replied discontentedly. “You, the figure that the entire country respects, admit that something you’ve ‘perfected’ wasn’t the best it could be?”

“It’s an unwarranted reputation that others thought up by themselves,” Kingsley calmly stated. “In this world, there are plenty of people stronger than I am, hidden in various places to diligently perfect their art. Those opinions that you put forth, definitely must have come from one of those experts out there. So, who told you?”

Her hopes of getting a rise out of Kingsley were dashed, and viewing his indifference to the new advances, she grew angry. “Nonsense, these improvements supposedly only by reclusive masters came from my roommate!”

His keen eyes suddenly bore down at his daughter as his expression changed. “Your roommate, Fang?”

“Is there anyone else named Fang at Garden College?” She scowled. “The method that you taught me wasn’t so great if a 1st year student at a college could enhance it – don’t you think it’s a stain on your honor?”

Although Kingsley acted very humble, he determinedly believed that a regular youth acting by their own analysis couldn’t possibly have proposed these insightful changes. Even by random ideas, it was quite impossible to go into this much detail, there wasn’t a doubt that some extraordinary genius came up with these.

Initially, he casually selected a seemingly studious student to affect his daughter, but he never imagined that he would incidentally pick someone from such a background.

The figure behind Fang didn’t open declare that Fang was their disciple, therefore, there must be a definite goal behind him.

However, as Kingsley contemplated, he came up with nothing; he’d have to investigate further. For now, he’d leave him alone. It seemed that because of that kid, Scarlett’s started to take an interest in training…
