Chapter 28: Impenetrable Defense
Cursing, Garret pulled up another flare of energy.
Even if this guy’s fighting skills are powerful, there’s no way he could last as long as I can with his energy – after all, he’s a 1st grade intermediate while I’m a 4th grade intermediate!
With this goal in mind, he continuously shot explosive shots of energy while moving around, but there was no progress as ten minutes had already passed by;
I remember that when I just entered that stage, I could barely manage to send out fifteen rounds; he’s already sent out over twenty, what the hell?
On top of that, Garret felt slightly exhausted, indicating that his energy was winding down. He was consuming at a rapid rate to try and wear Fang down, but it wasn’t working. Deciding this didn’t bode well, he realized he had to use that to overpower Fang.
Garret first sent out two Energy Balls, and Fang replied in return.
Bang! Bang!
The energy collided in the air and broke even like the past exchanges. Through the dust, a figure dashed at Fang, and within moments Garret was five meters away.
His palms faced inwards, and a huge amount of condensed energy illuminated Garret’s vicious face.
“Feel honored that you’ll get defeated by this!” Garret pushed towards Fang and a block of energy, at least five times as big as the Energy Ball spread, enveloping the air as it rushed towards Fang, surely, with no room to escape.
2nd grade yellow skill – Energy Crush!
Quickly, Fang prepared two Energy Balls to stop the attack, but it failed to break apart the mass of revolving light as it approached Fang, the levels were too different to compare!
Although the Energy Crush had a few dents and was smaller, because of the proximity, it would land on Fang in a couple of seconds.

Again, Fang lifted his hand, and Garret sneered. Fool, you don’t have enough time to prepare another two sets, and after all, this skill would require at least six Energy Balls to break.
A large formation of energy expanded ten times, swallowing any vision of Fang, forming a great ray.
Energy Devour!
Garret’s heart stopped, he knew what Fang was using. A 3rd grade yellow skill, Energy Devour, was an odd skill because it wasn’t ranged, but melee combat. However, it was exponentially stronger as it temporarily devoured the body’s energy into a single, condensed ray that could be manipulated for defense or offense. Although this skill was useful, it required precise control over the body’s energy to harness its full capacity, and so, many people didn’t bother with it. In fact, Garret himself had tried to learn it in vain – there were very few people in the camp that even attempted to learn because of its difficulty.
Now, this fool knows it, and can display it at the 1st grade intermediate rank? Just a month, and breaking through to the intermediate stage as well as learning two techniques, this guy’s a monster!
Boom!
The Energy Crush broke into pieces, though, some leftover energy ricocheted towards Fang’s body. After all, even if Energy Devour was a relatively high level skill, Fang was only using it as a 1st grade intermediate.
Immediately, he launched instant parry, and Fang felt a small amount of pain, but appeared without any external injuries.
Excited voices travelled throughout the audience.
“Did I just see Energy Devour?”
“Yeah, that was Energy Devour.”
“The hell, even the higher grade intermediates aren’t able to fully grasp Energy Devour, but he can use it?”
“Don’t forget the most horrifying part, he sent out two Energy Balls before using that. This amount of power, it’s really scary. Is this guy really a 1st grade intermediate?”

“Maybe it’s a born handicap – a low energy rank in exchange for that godlike comprehension of skills!”
Even Blue was shocked.
As far as he knew, Fang, about twenty days ago, broke into the 1st grade intermediate stage. To know Energy Ball and Energy Devour in a short amount of time and master them was astonishing, to say the least. But Blue’s attention wasn’t taken by these skills, something else grabbed her eyes.
When the ricochets of energy hit Fang, several parts of his body was infused with light; most people would have been blinded by the vast amount of energy displayed by the skills, however, Blue wasn’t fooled. Instant parry with one point of defense wasn’t that difficult, it didn’t require accurate judgments.
Just now, five sparks of energy hit Fang’s body, but five parts of his body simultaneously launched instant parry at those different spots.
I could launch the timing of five points as well, but each fragment would have a shallow, weak amount of energy just enough to prevent serious injuries. But Fang, his energy launched were exactly the same grades of energy as his Energy Ball, and was accurately sized without any waste.
How the hell did he do that, is he a monster?
Garret couldn’t believe his eyes, his wining strike turned out to be completely useless and defeated by Fang.
During the series of exchanges though, Fang had expended too much energy that his capacity was at the novice stage, and his energy came back from outside the surface into his body.
On his feet first, Fang got up from the ground and stared at Garret. Garret tried to materialize another Energy Ball, but it failed and deflated as Garret’s energy withdrew in his body as he slowly tried to stand up.
A grin appeared on Fang’s face as he raised his right arm up, ablaze with energy.

Saga of Fallen Kings, Book I: The Revenant Prince
The Philosopher King once conquered the known world, his power seemingly unlimited and his armies inexhaustible. Since that time his might has slowly unravelled, and his once steadfast empire has begun to crack, splinter and devour itself. In the isolated Southern Realms, where even magic has abandoned them, none of that matters. For years it has been filled with warring kingdoms, where as many kings die to the blade as to old age, and constant battles tear apart the land. When one such kingdom invades its old enemy, the King and his heir, Prince Caden, are killed. Unable to accept the loss of his family Prince Arian is broken, and when the Philosopher King stretches out his hand in aid, Arian takes it without a second thought. When Caden wakes from death, he's different. His eyes and soul have changed, and he finds a world filled with friends who no longer trust he's even human. Suddenly thrust onto the throne and indebted to the Philosopher King, Caden has no choice but to keep going - he must finish what his father started, and try to survive the machinations of the figure who now owns his fealty. Meanwhile something beyond death stirs for him, desiring nothing more than to drag him back into its embrace. Author's Note: This story used to be known as "A King of his Own", but after some consideration I have decided to rebrand it. The first reason is that I was growing increasingly dissatisfied with the title. The second is that I have come increasingly to view this story as a 'saga' containing multiple 'books' rather than one long, continuous publication, and as I did so I realized that as I was quickly getting to a point in the story where I wanted the first 'book' to end. This doesn't mean I'm going back on the things I said below - they're just going to continue in the next book of the Saga of Fallen Kings. :) Also, be aware that I do plan to edit this at some point. Though I take care to squash out any obvious errors when I proof-read, and do simple edits in that process, at some point I'm almost certainly going to do large edits that might significantly change parts of the story. Old author's notes: This started as a completely random writing session. There was no purpose or direction, but as I kept typing an entire world began to form in my mind that I knew I had to write about. My plan is to turn this story into a veritable medieval fantasy epic that spans an entire world, follows multiple character and storylines, and takes place over many years. The story has quite a grounded, almost 'realistic' start, but many more fantastical elements will be introduced, expanded upon and become central to the narrative. I have ideas for this story that make me genuinely excited and I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy writing it, and join me on what will hopefully become a truly massive fantasy epic. If you do enjoy this story please consider following, rating and leaving a review. I'm also happy to answer any questions or comments you have.
