Chapter 27: Redirected Hate
Blue frowned, she had never seen this person, but he approached her with obvious hostile intentions.
In a bad mood, she coldly said, “Who are you?”
Arrogantly, Garret swept his arms. “Garret, but you don’t have to remember it. All I came was to ask was one thing – are you stupid? Who do you think you are to seduce Lizzy?”
Hearing the name, Blue instantly understood what was going on.
Although Blue was from a small city according to her badge, “he” had a delicate appearance that had charmed girls around the camp. Lizzy was one of them, and came to Blue to confess her love, but was immediately rejected. She recalled that as she walked away, this guy had hurried stopped in front of Lizzy. He probably confessed then, and got rejected. And it was pretty well known that Blue headed to the practice grounds every night, so he must have found out and came tonight.
Blue’s mood sharply turned murderous.
Garret didn’t know he had provoked someone he shouldn’t have, and shouted at Blue. “Take my challenge and let’s see who the right man for Lizzy is!”
After being warned by General Hawk, Garret was cautious about directly attacking Blue. However, challenges were allowed and even encouraged, so if there was fight now, he’d be free to do whatever he’d like.
Of course, the challenged could also refuse, but Garret clearly said, “If you’re afraid of death though, you can refuse. But tomorrow, the entire training camp would know that you’re a coward!”
With the loud yells that Garret spat out, the few people that were training started to come over, pointing, and ready to watch the conflict. If Blue let this go and gave up, Blue would be humiliated – the label of a coward branded on their image.

As for Blue, she felt thoroughly exasperated.
No one has ever dared to provoke me, Scarlett… you’re a dead man.
She was going to respond, when Fang interrupted, “I’ll take the match!”
Shocked, Blue looked at Fang. “What?”
“Blue, let me fight instead!” He tapped Blue on the shoulder and stepped forward.
Garret scowled. “Are you deaf? I already said that today, I’m looking for someone that’s not you, so get out of the way.”
A smile appeared on Fang’s face. “I know, but I’m looking for you, Garret, before you can challenge Blue. Of course, if you want, you could refuse, but tomorrow, the entire training camp would know that you’re a coward.”
Garret’s eyes twitched and he shouted in anger. “Fine, I’ll take your challenge, head to the arena!”
The arena in the camp was a special site where people could exchange their martial abilities with each other of mutual
agreement. Frustrated, Blue turned towards Fang. “Fang, you…”
“It’s okay, don’t worry.” Fang went to the arena.
--- --- ---
A crowd had gathered around the two figures warily circling in the arena.
“Last time, because of that meddlesome general, I couldn’t get the chance to play a little. To interfere in my affairs though, this time, I should beat you until you beg me to stop!”
Fang sharply retorted, “Stop spewing such nonsense, the fight hasn’t even begun and to act like you’ve won already; it’s disgraceful.”
‘Me, lose to you? What a joke!” Garret suddenly sent out some energy and threw it at Fang.
To knock out a 9th grade novice, there was no need to expend much energy.
But his plan was thwarted when Fang’s energy grew out – he didn’t expect that Fang would’ve already hit the intermediate stage. It didn’t matter though, for someone who had recently broken into the intermediate rank, they wouldn’t have any skills to use.

From Fang’s hand, a similar ball of energy flew out.
1st grade yellow skill – Energy Ball!
Garret fell back in surprise, when did he learn Energy Ball?
Even though Energy Ball was one of the most basic skills, to learn it required a fundamental understanding of energy and time to practice it. Generally, it took people at least two months to reach the stage of its use. However, Fang had only taken a month to rise from a 9th grade novice to the intermediate rank, plus, he had just used Energy Ball.
This endless method was too terrifying; coupled with the insights he was drilled into, Fang didn’t find it difficult at all to learn these martial skills. From a cursorily look and the theories he was taught, he could identify and mimic the techniques, as long as he had the energy level for it.
Bang!
This makes no sense!
The bumpkin’s Energy Ball certainly was recently learned, why is his power stronger than mine?
Losing the first exchange, Garret felt he had lost his dignity already. To lose to a recent intermediate while he was a 4th grade intermediate… unspeakable! Forming a concentrated ball of energy on the other hand, he shouted. “Don’t think you can compare just because you’ve reached the intermediate rank!”
Two energy balls accelerated towards Fang. If he was a regular person, he would be severely injured. But as Blue put it, Fang was a freak, he couldn’t be measured with common sense.
Another set of energy thrown intercepted a single mass – it wasn’t all though. Fang had sent out a second volley of energy to stop the last set. The power difference was evidently there, but Fang’s ability to quickly form and send out a second Energy Ball made up for the two simultaneous attacks Garret made.
Amazed, the crowd of students seemed to get bigger, as some went in search of their friends to watch.
“Wow, this guy’s insane, already a 4th grade intermediate.”
“That’s not all, look at the power of his Energy Ball, it’s so concentrated.”
“Yeah, but that other guy could match up to him. No wonder he dared to challenge a 4th grade intermediate…”
Astonished, Garret could silently stare at Fang; on the day of their first meeting, Fang was able to send out two Sonic Cuts as a 9th grade novice, and now, two Energy Balls as an intermediate?

NEVER SPLIT THE PARTY: The Adventures of The Creeping Bam (BOOK TWO: One Cold Trail)
After their fateful misadventure in the mountainous Norther Reaches of RUNDAO, a dark new threat to all of RUNDAO has been revealed to the mercenary band of THE CREEPING BAM and their newest member, half-orc bandit SHAYLINE SWIFT-KILL. Returning their hard-won cargo to THE SILVER ORDER in their city stronghold in BAVAT, they find their well-deserved rest will have to rest – half-elf wizard GAEL FOXTAIL’s father has disappeared while performing an investigation in the coastal city of UNTERMER, and it’s up to our motley crew to find him. As a son of Untermer, wily bakaneko thief ART OF SHADOWS is the perfect choice to lead the way, but he has ghosts of his own to face as their investigation brings them into the orbit of the THIEVES GUILD. But there are daker forces at work here, and as they uncover a dark conspiracy and form an uneasy alliance with a trio of tough sellswords with their own stake in the game, led by dwarven warrior THELGAEWYNN FROSTFORGE, the Creeping Bam begin to suspect this may be connected to that unfinished business they started back up north … This is a love letter and homage to the high-fantasy worlds of the tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder and Warhammer and the sword & sorcery cinema and literature I fell in love with as a kid growing up in the 80s, from Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian (and the awesome Schwarzenegger movie, STILL my favourite fantasy film EVER), The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and Ron Howard and George Lucas’ Willow, to the more grown-up and edgy worlds of grimdark masters George RR Martin and (my all-time favourite) Joe Abercrombie, as well as a BIG DOLLOP of Terry Pratchett’s immortal Discworld series. IMPORTANT: This story contains material which some readers may consider to be mature, such as battle violence, some strong language and occasional mild sexual scenes. If this is not your kind of thing, this story is not for you. I am also serializing this story on Tumblr, Wattpad, Quotev and Sweek.
