Chapter 9: A Welcome Coincidence
Vincent felt fear for the first time; he didn’t think at all that Fang had learned Sonic Cut as well. However, that alone didn’t cause the scare, it was that Fang’s technique looked stronger, his arm outshining Vincent’s arm.
This was just Sonic Cut, but who taught Fang to control his energy for it to appear so terrifying! It seemed like Vincent’s skill would only split a tree, while Fang’s would cut smoothly through a boulder.
Although Vincent knew that Fang’s Sonic Cut was superior, he couldn’t stop and dashed forwards, swinging his arm savagely.
Clink!
A loud cutting sound echoed throughout the grounds as Vincent slowly fell to the ground, his arm broken, void of energy.
Time stopped for a split second.
A long red scar emerged diagonally across Vincent’s chest, extending from one side to the other.
Briefly, an intense hatred flashed in eyes.
Impossible, I couldn’t have lost, this must be a dream!
“Damn you…”
Blood splurged out from his chest as he tried to concentrate energy, but failing, his eyes went blank, collapsing on the ground.
While his opponent fell miserably to the ground, Fang stood calmly, not a shred of compassion visible around his figure.
Even if Vincent had bullied him in his childhood, it was a trivial matter, after all, they were kids. But his life ended the moment he tried to snatch Mii away.
Cheers resounded through the field as the crowd broke free of their stupor – no one could have expected this result.
Not only was Fang a 9th grade novice, he also knew Sonic Cut!
And to add on top of that, his Sonic Cut managed to slash Vincent twice.
With the same level of energy, and similar physiques, to be able to skillfully wield the technique like that was something a genius could only do!

Trash?
They had been mocking such a genius for a long time; perhaps Fang’s silence kept his talent a secret, but a genius was like the sun, it could never be completely covered up.
Looking at the tall youth standing in the field in spite of the past insults, the crowd felt deep respect. No one in that small city would dare to look down on Fang again!
“You…!” In an uncontrollable rage, Vincent’s father rushed at Fang with insane hatred in his eyes.
The space in front of him rippled for half a second, and suddenly, the single female judge appeared, intercepting his path. This speed… it was characteristic of a 6th grade master!
No wonder she presided as the head judge at such a young age, she was too strong – in the entire region, there would be very few people who could match her power!
She gently waved her hand in the air.
1st grade red skill – Dimensional Prison!
An incredible amount of pressure surrounded Vincent’s father; so much that the space around him started to vibrate uncontrollably. No matter how much he struggled, he failed to move forward. After discovering that her strength outclassed his by an immeasurable amount, he gave up any notion of fighting against her.
His anger didn’t fade though, and he angrily protested, “What are you doing! Do you not see what happened to my son?”
That faint smile on the captivating face faded away, replaced with a cold expression. “Sir, you are a warrior right? Then it should be crystal clear that before we announce the results, no one should be allowed on the field – we could, under the country’s law, arrest you on the spot!”
This was the first time that she spoke, her voice seductively low, coupled with intensity that was filled in charm.

Although she sounded quite calm and reasonable, the pressure around Vincent’s father increased, and unmistakable fear spread across his face. The technique that commonly accompanied Dimensional Prison was Spatial Rip, which would cruelly implode the mass of energy and pressure in the confined area.
Seeing the expression on his face, the attractive judge dissipated the burden. “We’ll deal with the matter of Vincent’s injuries.”
A judge was already by Vincent’s side, shrouding Vincent’s body in a light blue color; he also must have reached the master level, as the wounds quickly became invisible.
“Sorry, I was just worried about Vincent, after all, he is my son…”
Vincent’s father moved to the healer. Looking at Vincent’s pale face, he asked, “So how is my son?”
“I’ve gone and cured all his external injuries, but he suffered some severe internal injuries that may impede his future progress.”
Even if Vincent wasn’t dead, being unable to progress in his training ahead would make him the useless trash that he often taunted Fang as.
Unable to accept this, he glared at Fang and shouted in rage. “You son of a bitch! You were too spiteful, aiming your attacks to cripple Vincent, you should deserve…”
The female judge interrupted him. “Sir, were you not listening throughout the entire fight? First, we previously informed both parties that it was a voluntary, fair fight, and any accident would be void of all responsibility. Also, when Vincent displayed his Sonic Cut, I felt it was full of killing intent, which has already violated the entire purpose of this competition – so when Fang responded, it was completely acceptable!”
Drained and weak, Vincent’s father slowly picked up Vincent, shaking, and walked out of the testing grounds.
“As Vincent has lost consciousness, the top scorer of this year’s entrance examination is Fang!” She announced the results, then said, “Fang, you’ve obtained this recommendation; I hope that you will make good use of it.”
Fang quickly replied, “Thank you, I will definitely do so.”
The female judge nodded, she did admire this curious youth.
Wondering why Fang’s performance yesterday caused a lot of shock for the crowd, she looked into Fang’s background and understood why the reaction was so exaggerated.
A year ago, he wasn’t even at the novice stage, but now, he was a 9th grade novice capable of using instant parry along with solid fighting skills. In addition, he held off using Sonic Cut until the last moment, despite the fact that Vincent had tried to make Fang’s life as miserable as possible.
Well, Valeria, it seemed like sister Yume had found an interesting candidate for you!

A little rough around the edges, I hope to come back and edit at some point, and then continue the story on. In the grand scheme of things Elias was nothing special. Which was why he was surprised by a random company on a new colony planet buying out his contract. That was the problem with the large companies that ruled the colonies, once they owned your contract, they owned you. Imagine the greater surprise when he learnt that the new company held the promise of freedom. Not from the constant battle against the Swarm that were also trying to claim the colony planets for their own. Nor from the Crust, the mysterious substance that covered the same planets and held the resources they all fought for. No, the freedom from being oppressed by those with more power and to finally decide where to go and where to set down roots and call home.

Man of Earth
Magic is a terrifying force. Logic itself is subject to this energy, which is (logically speaking) impossible for us to comprehend. Every universe requires some version of magic to exist. That is, all but one. Our world functiouns based on a powerful and intricate net of laws that act independently from magical interference. The most notable of these is the human brain, which is capable of even more than its creator had thought possible. Naturally, this prompted the question: "How would a human fare in a world of magic?" Soon, there was a bet. Next, a human was selected. Finally, an odd young man with a strange black hat was introduced to his new world, and all restraints were removed.

I made a haughty promise earlier to not worry because I'll continue this series, and with things lately, I've only proved myself a liar. Further promises dwindled, and I've lost trust. So many things have been going on recently that I've been booked. I will refrain from making any future guarantees or promises as my busy schedule will stay with me for a long long while. Time for me to actually spend on writing and revising won't appear until at the least November 19. I won't say expect that's when I'll restart, but you can expect expecting it to maybe happen. That's really shallow. But with everything going on, I've let my small reading base down. I apologize. I still stick by my statement though that I won't abandon this project. I plan to stick it to the end, no matter the delay. Most importantly, thank you everyone; readers who both like and dislike my work. I appreciate your time spent on my dumb imagination. Stay toasty my readers in this winter season. Cheers. UPDATE: We're back on track. Thank you for your patience. Any future readers, heyo! Glad you're here. UPDATE 2: So far it's been 21 days since I last uploaded a chapter. The best thing done for any fiction, no matter how good it is, is that it continues, and I have a bad history with that. 1 fiction on hiatus and already more delays with less than 20 chapters in this fiction. I've been very preoccupied with adding more things to do in my life rather than actually committing to any particular thing. That applies primarily to this. I cannot abandon this, as busy as my future looks and will look as I get busier and busier. Someday, I hope, I will be able to sit down and just write. just. write. But for now, I ask for patience. I suppose I'm glad this fiction hasn't picked up so that I don't disappoint too many people if any really. But I need to commit and it's going to happen sometime and sometime soon. No more flowery words. I'll see you later. UPDATE 3: It's very evident I won't be able to pick up this story for a while. With AP Testing, competitions, and other things I am busier than ever. But I must complete this fiction. I have too. Until next time. UPDATE 4: It is now the summer. I owe everyone an apology. Chances are, nobody's around to see this, and that is okay. I only blame myself for this sort of brokenness of a fiction, not that it is actually that bad but I am just exaggerating it for dramatic effect. But what's not exaggerated is the severity of my broken promise. I apologize for my naive claims about finishing a novel that I couldn't finish and that I didn't have the discipline to finish. Nor the skills, really, I was and am still an immature writer. What is to place now? I want to make it clear I understand this is my fault. I will man up to this. And I will accept any criticism. I understand I messed up. Reading Stephen King's On Writing made it clear to me that I need to do two things:Read lots. And write lots.I have done neither. If I don't have the time to read often, how do I expect to write? I need to become more experienced. I need to become a serious writer. So if I want to dream of continuing, I need to at least fulfill both requirements. I enjoy writing. I haven't written seriously outside of school in a while. I planned to write this summer and finish this. I made a lot of promises that I didn't keep.So there's that. I won't enact any self-pity, or be foolishly obsessed. What I did was wrong, and I must deal with it. I let down readers. And I apologize.I hope I can find forgiveness. This is a writer's sin.I won't promise I'll finish this. I intend to finish this, at some point, because writing is fun and I want to write. But how things are don't reflect that. Maybe I'll finish this at some point. Maybe I won't. I won't be naive to make that promise.I thank everyone who has read this if this is the end. If not, and hopefully not, I thank everyone who is to read future chapters. I thank everyone who allowed me to live in the miniscule little dream of mine as I passed my days. I thank everyone who cares enough to read this. Until next time, peace everyone. Thank you. You are all great readers and great people. I wish everyone the best in whatever reading/writing endeavors follow you henceforth.
