《DIVE》Dive 71: A Reunion

Short summary of the last chapter:
Spoiler :
Voice was announced the winner of the tournament. He did not even take a glance at his prize. He tried for a week to actually make his meditation continue while doing physical activities, without success. At the end of that week he saw that a large group of people were chasing after him.
Also, let me know if anything is wrong with the chapter! Be sure to comment and rate!
After a second’s thought, I noticed. All of the flying monsters were the same race! All of the land monsters were likewise. That meant one of two things.
They had either all bought from the same place, or more likely, they had a monster tamer among them! These beasts were moving at an incredible speed. They seemed to be able to cover miles in only minutes.
The fastest I could go was about thirty miles an hour, and that was only if I was constantly pouring my mana into pushing myself forward. Since I didn’t have actual wings, I could only go so fast.
I bit my lip, and formed a patchwork plan. It wouldn’t solve the problem, but it would at least put some distance between the oncoming army, and myself.
I gazed at the still distant M’ Path. Sighing I shook my head. I had no way of getting there without them knowing where I was going. Most likely they already knew.
I had Eli start to help me dig through the ground. At least that way I could decrease the amount of monsters coming at me. I hadn’t heard of any flying monsters that could easily traverse underground passages.
I quickly poured the elemental mana back into the hole, to cover up our path. If they wanted to chase me, they would at least have to dig the same path.
After a minute I stopped to catch my breath. They would have been just now approaching where I had been. With the special sensing ability they all had, they would know I was underground.
I snickered. Unless they had a monster capable of digging quickly they wouldn’t be able to get to me. I was several hundred feet underground after all.
Obviously I still had Sol and Ancestor keep an eye out for anyone. Just as I sighed in relief, they both urgently spoke.
“Master! Incoming mana signature!”
“Voice! A mole is coming right for you!”
Shit! The tamer even has that? Just how many monsters can he control!?
I angrily shook my head, and made Eli continue digging. I could have sped up the process by helping him, but if I did that then the mole would just be able to follow our path. I was betting the mole was paired up with at least one player.
So instead of helping Eli, I continued to block up the path. I had Tear drain the nearby water mana. Even while I was running for my life I was formulating a plan.
Drake did the same with the same with the fire mana. There wasn’t much though. Still every little bit helped. I doubted the bomb tactics would work again, but this time I had a bit of a different plan.
I spoke to Kretchof. Ordering him to begin preparations for my plan.
After about ten more minutes off furious digging, Kretchof said, “Master! It’s ready. We just need to get close.”
Which was good. The mole was slowed down, but was still gaining ground quickly. It was only about thirty feet behind me. It would catch up within a minute.

Instantly Eli and I began making a huge open cavern. In thirty seconds the mole charged into it. There was actually a player behind it as well.
The mole couldn’t stop its momentum in time. It flew straight into the cavern of water. Tear had exhausted all the water mana gained throughout the escape.
As soon as the mole was in the water, the area behind it closed. The water began to heat up instantly. It was so hot that the water began to bubble and steam. As the mole and player passed through the opening, a dark aura descended on them.
Kretchof had cast a spell called ‘detection debuff’. Basically as soon as someone passed by it, they had a chance to have a debuff cast on them.
The debuff had a higher chance to activate the smaller the area was, and the more mana pumped into it. It was only available to a ‘darkness mana fairy’. Not even normal darkness fairies would be able to cast it.
Kretchof only covered a very small area, and poured all of his mana into it. The debuff? Paralysis. The thing had a 90% chance to instantly paralyze anyone below level 300. It could only be used once a week though. I would definitely be finding a way to decrease that timer!
The steam had nowhere to go though. So it just sat in the cavern I had made. Steam takes up more space than water though.
With the steam stuck in such a small area, it began to instantly condense again. It also began to push against all of the walls of the cavern, trying to escape.
The force of the excessive pressure caused by the orb pushed the mole, and the player all to the edges of the wall. I was prepared. I had created a small alcove that’s was basically invisible. I could only see the inside of the orb using mana sight.
The mole wasn’t so lucky. It was thrown against the wall, causing it to take a bit of minor damage. The steam instantly compressed into water, and the force pushing us began to suck us towards the center of the cavern.
As soon as it compressed, it began to heat and steam again. Throwing both the mole and the other player against the walls.
Constant fire damage, due to being boiled alive? Check. Constant drowning damage, due to being boiled alive? Check. Constant physical damage due to being repeatedly thrown against jagged surface? Triple check.
Suffice to say the mole was dead in less than a minute. Drake and I were both almost completely out of fire mana, but at least the situation was basically fixed. But I’d be DAMNED if I was going to let the assholes who just chased me like this get away.
After making sure no more moles were coming, I had Tear absorb the water again. Drake absorbed what little fire mana hadn’t gotten completely used up. Kretchof was out of commission for a while. It was worth it though.
I took my time to exit the area, not before taking the corpse of the mole though. Kretchof told me this particular monster mole was a rare breed. It would do well in my dungeon.
After leaving the area Ancestor mentions that the people are following me above ground. I curse as I dig deeper. No more moles come at least. If they are just going to wait above ground for me, I will simply prepare myself here.
I decided to stop running, and begin to do something a bit more fun. I made Eli absorb the earth mana in a large area. As soon as my earth fairy was filled to bursting, I had him help me create a large building.

The earth mana near me was completely cleared out. It was an empty, flat, plane of existence. There was no light. I could only see because I sensed for the earth mana around me.
With Eli’s help, I created a large manor. Well I say manor. We really just put up a bunch of walls in the fifty yards of earth we cleared out. Once we were done, I was down one earth fairy. I was pushing these guys to the limit right now.
If I could have out flown the flying monsters, I wouldn’t even have been in this mess. I could teleport to Rand, but if I did that they would probably keep a close eye out on that city from then on.
Even a disguise wouldn’t work. They would just figure it out when I got close enough. Well shit, this is a bit worse than I was expecting at first.
If I could find a way to kill off the birds then that would be fine. I guess there really is only that?
I sent a message to the chaos boss in my dungeon. I told him to make the dungeon come this way.
“Hmph. Fine. It will take four days for the nearest undead moles to reach you.”
I sighed. I didn’t know the chaos dude was going to be so annoying.
I had contacted him a few times during my journey. It wasn’t a good outcome. For some reason he was stuck up. I had no idea how he got this attitude, but it was annoying. If he weren’t such a powerful boss I’d have put Kretchof back in charge.
As it was, he hated everyone for some reason. He was especially happy to kill intruders that dared to ‘defile my throne room with your unworthy presence.’ As he put it.
There were a few dozen cases where people entered the dungeon, and only two where they made it to the boss room. It was pretty good given the level of the dungeon. I had to admit I admired people that driven.
Whatever. It was good enough that there was a constant flow of people into the dungeon. Not one had completed it yet. The item dropped were all added to the vault, only increasing the total worth of the dungeon.
The sub bosses rarely also got a piece. Only if it was really fit for them though. The chaos guy kept me updated on the actions of the dungeon. Even though he seemed to hate me, he never directly disobeyed me.
Davros couldn’t effect the dungeon either. He did have his shrine in it, but his view was limited to only that one room.
The necromancer girl was forcefully conscripted by the chaos lifeform. Sucks to be her.
I sat down, and began to log into my white room. If the enemies came, the fairies would let me know. They could come here after all. I had all of them help Eli out in making the house. If anything went wrong, though, they were to come to me right away.
Just as I was about to press the ‘log out’ button, I got a notice. The part at the end caused me to smile. I instantly activated it.
Task Master
Current Level: Adept Level 50 Exp 00.00%
This skill allows you to use the benefits from: Automated, Multi-Tasking, Multi-Auto Tasking, Instruct, and Automaton.
You have learned how to increase the efficiency of doing tasks.
Task Master is a skill that can be toggled. You can currently do 3 tasks automatically at the same time. To increase this number you must increase the level of Group Skill: Task Master.
This skill allows you to further increase efficiency in others. You have gained the Skill: Instruct. Instruct has been automatically fused to Task Master. For every level of Group Skill: Task Master, those you instruct will gain a 5% competency bonus.
To level this skill you must do an action that would be encompassed in one of the skills that were consumed to make this skill, or study task efficiency. You can study the skills that that make up Task Master.
Tasks will be accomplished at 50% average speed shown by the user.
Current quality: Slight mistakes are committed rarely. Extreme mistakes are committed extremely rarely.
Levels in this skill allow you to do the skills this Group Skill encompasses with better efficiency. Ranks in this skill increase the amount of tasks you can do at once, and increase the competency bonus those you instruct gain by 5%. Ranks will also increase the speed the tasks are done at, and the decrease the mishaps of those skills.
For reaching Adept rank in Group Skill: Task Master, you have gained the Skill: Automaton. Automaton has been automatically fused to Task Master. When you have this skill activated, you may log out of the game, but your avatar will remain effective. The avatar will continue to do things that the game determined you would do. You will suffer positive and negatives consequences due to the skill Automaton, while it is activated.
I could stay active while logging out!? YES! Me likey!
I wouldn’t even need to consciously put in effort to actually get things done. Obviously I was pretty stoked about the entire situation.
I started to chill out, and play a few games on the computer I had set up. Eventually I had to leave though. I don’t know if the automaton would mess things up for me.
I went back to check it out. If the robot me messed anything up, I could quickly fix it.
It turns out my fears were groundless. The automatic me was actually doing a good job. He was helping reinforce the underground area. Eli seemed exhausted. When I came back into my body, I noticed that the entire underground level was quite nice.
It had many rooms, and some even had stone furnishings.
A week passed. At least one or two moles attacked each day. Staying in the one spot seemed to be for the best. I practiced my meditation, while trying to do something physical.
During this week people would leave, and return. Only to have another group leave. They were all heading to the direction of the nearest town. I knew they were setting their respawn points there.
It never seemed to work out. I knew I was missing something. It was only a matter of time until I understood it.
After that week, I noticed some of the light mana signatures began to dim, and eventually disappear. I came out of my meditation to watch. Whatever was causing this had my rapt attention.
Of course the next day the people that had been killed would return from M’ Path. The chaos boss from my dungeon finally connected it to the house area I built. But with all of the interesting things happening, I decided to just kind of stay in the area I was in.
Every night I would watch as many of the people were killed. Their deaths meant they were losing levels. Even if their friends did pick up their weapons and items they might have dropped.
I didn’t know what was killing them all off, but it was helpful. One night I decided to just go up there and check it out. That way I could thank whatever it was. Although… to be able to kill that many high level players with relative ease… they could probably squash me.
I noted that the thing killing them would kill exactly ten players a night. The monsters that got in the way would also be killed without hesitation.
I put on m defense buffs just in case. I slowly began the arduous task of tunneling to the top of the earth. Eli absorbed the earth mana along the way. Just as Tear and Drake absorbed the water and fire mana respectively.
The people were gathering close to the spot where I would come out. I laughed sadly to myself. Guys… Come one. I obviously have a way to get out of here. Even if I can’t get away from you for long…
As I got closer I began to prepare my escape. I sealed the area behind up. I created a large empty sphere. It was big enough to hold several thousands of gallons of water. Tear filled the entire room with water.
Without waiting for the order, Drake began heating the water. I helped to add heat. Within a few minutes the water began to bubble and boil.
NOW ELI!
As soon as the shout rang out in my mind, Eli created a small tunnel, just big enough for a person, all the way to the surface. The steam in the sphere instantly began to shoot out.
At the same time as I shouted, I equipped my squirrel ring. Along with the steam, I was propelled towards he surface.
I was only a few yards away to start with, so in a matter of a second I was out.
I watched at the people that were huddled around the opening were thrown in all directions. The steam shot towards the sky like a geyser, throwing my hundreds of feet into the air. The steam, guided by SparrowHawk, shot me out quickly.
After a moment they seemed to realize what was happening. The people began to quickly mount the flying monsters. Too bad for them I had planned for that.
When the people ran to get on their flying mounts, I simply allowed myself to be propelled by my wind mana. They would quickly catch up to me since I wasn’t really flying, but that was ok.
Just as predicted, they caught up with me in a matter of seconds. Sadly I was using myself as a diversion tactic.
It was nighttime. I didn’t know it when I was inside the stone area, but I realized that it made sense. It would be easiest to infiltrate a large group when it was night.
The entire reason I flew into the sky was to give the other killer the chance to take out as many of the players as possible.
A dark blur shot towards the group of players. No. It isn’t.
I enhanced my vision with a buff, and zoomed in on the blur.
The blur stopped at each player to deal with them. As soon as the black blur got into the encampment, the blur effect wore off. Instead she was just another player.
She ran up to two different players, and stabbed both of them in the eyes with her two Sai. EDI!
I was both happy and confused. I told her I wouldn’t be friends with her anymore. Why would she do this for me?
Whatever the reason was, I was going to help her out. I used all of my wind mana to create a super-high speed wind tunnel. I let myself fall into it, and like an arrow, I shot towards the group of people on the ground.
The group of flying beasts didn’t even have time to think. I was already down and past them by the time the noticed I had stopped. I couldn’t use this spell more than once every few minutes though.
I might not like her, but she was obviously doing this for my sake. I was not about to owe her anything. Normally I would be happy to let her die for me, but with EDITOR watching, I couldn’t afford to do that.
With a sigh I landed beside her. “*Sigh* Thanks for the help EDI.” I said in a deadpan voice. “I guess I owe you one.”
I shook my head in resignation. Even if I had made sure EDITOR couldn’t overtly do anything against me, the AI could still manage to slip in some covert actions.
EDI was actually very powerful. She could easily deal with several people at once. I looked at her, and saw that her level was 126! That was an amazing leap! I almost asked how she did it, but then remembered she had all the info on the game EDITOR had.
Even if EDITOR didn’t directly help her get such a high level, she had a week to train in the best possible places. Especially with those great Sai I gave her. She could keep going long after others would have dropped due to low health.
My wind, water, fire, and earth mana were all gone. All I really had was light mana. I decided to play the role of healer. I was always good at that anyway.
Instead of just randomly blasting her with healing spells though, I was careful and exact in the process of healing.
Whenever I noticed her get hurt, I would send a ray of light mana to fix only that part. It had the same effect as casting a general heal, but cost only a fraction of the mana.
It was much like the ‘light palm’ spell I came up with back in rand. I didn’t have to make everything a light source, only using a small light source would do the trick.
She seemed startled that I was using the healing spells on her, but with no other types of mana I had no choice. I had even had to take down all of my buffs while I was flying at high speed over here.
With my high speed healing, and the two Sai that absorbed health, EDI was like an invincible killing machine. As soon as she killed one person, she blurred towards the next. Each kill only took a few seconds. Every strike she made was obviously a critical one. Eyes are a weak point for everyone I guess.
The twenty or so players that were left here, were quickly subdued. Which was great because the other forty were on their way.
