《Gluttonous little crow》Gluttonous little crow: Prologe + chapter 1: Little crow's Preperations

Deep in the elemental beast mountain range, in an area belonging to the crows where other elemental beasts wouldn’t dare enter, rested two eggs one was shining with golden light and had black stripes that seemed to eat light, the other was a dull gray. Two crows perched on that same tree, these two crows were the parents of the eggs.
The male crow was a powerful elemental beast standing one meter in hight, it was staring at the golden egg with excitement and pride, these crows are very intelligent creatures as most, powerful elemental beast gained intelligence equal to that of a human and no longer lived by following it’s instincts.
It was looking at the egg with such excitement and pride because form that egg would be born a holy death crow, holy death crows were special because in it’s body resided both light and darkness elemental attributes giving it all the benefits but none of the weaknesses, once a holy death crow reached adulthood it would stand at one and a half meters and even lions, tigers, and eagles would hesitate to provoke it.
The chances of a holy death crow being born were astronomically low, only one in a hundred thousand, when a death crow and a holy crow paired the most often occurrence was the birth of more holy crows and death crows.
The mother of these two eggs was a powerful holy crow standing at about two thirds of a meter in hight. It did not have the same look of excitement and joy in its eyes that the death crow had but instead looked at the gray egg with sadness and pity.
Gray eggs were the fourth type of egg that could result in the pairing of a death crow and a holy crow.
From these gray eggs three eyed gray crows were born, these gray crows were thought to be the weakest of all elemental beast, three eyed gray crows as the name stated were gray feathered crows, but they only grew to a third of a meter in hight, had three legs, three eyes that never opened so it was also born blind, was also born mute, and could not use elemental energy to strengthen itself or attack.
Being born with all of these disadvantages no three eyed gray crow would ever survive once it had to leave the nest.
The chance of three eyed gray crows being born was far higher then that of a holy death crow, at one in a hundred many three eyed gray crows have been born but none survive.
Looking at the gray egg the holy crow could not help but feel a deep sadness in her heart, her child would die after it left her care.
Most elemental beast were indifferent about their offspring after they left their nest or family to start their own or survive as part of the larger community, unless the one leaving had an important role or strength the family and community would not pay much attention to an individual. Light element beasts were different and showed love, care, and compassion to their comrades and kin.
This holy crow like many other holy crows before it felt sorrow knowing that it could do nothing but wait for her egg to hatch and eventually watch it die.
Three years was the time that a crow would shelter its children before letting them join the murder of crows as an independent crow.
In her heart the holy crow made a choice, if her child could not somehow grow strong then after three years she would take it to the forest at the base of the mountain where elemental beasts were scarce and ordinary animals would roam, in that kind of environment it would be a lot safer and more likely to live than deep in the elemental beast mountain range.

In contrast to her thoughts of the gray egg, she did not worry about the golden egg a holy death crow would be taken care of and raised with care by the whole murder, and would eventually lead the murder.
The death crow however had no compassion or love for the gray egg, it firmly believed in the traditions of the murder, if the the three eyed gray crow could somehow go against what was considered common sense then he would happily watch it grow, but if it couldn’t, then that was the way of things and it would most likely die in an random encounter or fight against any other elemental beast.
Without knowing it, the fate of this gray egg had been decided for it, but this was not an uncommon occurrence in this world many parents decided the fate of their children based on their potential to grow strong.
Laws and the power to rule were things imposed by the strong and the stronger an individual or group the more it could rule.
There were exceptions to this, there were places where strong individuals protected weaker ones out of compassion but in the elemental beast mountain range that was to uncommon.
This soon to be born three eyed cray crow would either struggle against the fate that fell on all the other three eyed gray crows before it and gain power to establish its right to live in this cruel and unforgiving world, or it would die and become food or a plaything for another creature like all the other three eyed gray crows before it.
On an ancient tree deep in the Elemental Beast Mountain Range four crows ate the carcass of a lizard type elemental beast.
Three of these crows looked rather imposing compared to the fourth one. Two of the three more imposing crows were males reaching a meter in height and gave off an aura that let others know that they were powerful and not to be trifled with, one was a death crow while the other was a juvenile holy death crow, which still had room to grow.
The holy death crow had golden feathers radiating small amounts of light covering most of its body, on its head it had a crown of black feathers, and the edges of its wings were also sported black feather. The third of the imposing crows was a female holy crow with a height of around two thirds of a meter it did not have the same aura as the other two but one that demanded respect.
The fourth crow carried no aura or any particular presence to it. It was a juvenile three eyed gray crow reaching only a height of about a fourth of a meter.
These two juvenile crows hatched two years ago, at the start of their lives the two crows went through the same experiences, they were brought food by their parents and stayed in the nest for the first two months.
Then for the next four months they were occasionally taken ought to see and learn the way crows hunted, scavenged, and protected their territory. The formation of the crows was fairly simple, shadow crows being only a third of a meter in height entered and exited shadows attacking and bewildering their enemies, while death crows cast curses, and holy crows healed any injured crow.
The young holy death crow did not immediately understood this or what his role would be but after two months was able to grasp his place and would then often participate in fights against enemies that posed less of a threat and less likely to cause it harm.

The three eyed gray crow completely understood the formation in a little less than a month, because he could sense the presence of all the living creatures in a thirty meter radius but because of his inability to open his eyes effectively making him blind, adding to that his inability to communicate, and the fact that the little crow could not find his place in the formation he never participated in any hunts or fights to protect the murder’s territory.
Over the next year and a half the holy death crow continued to grow at an astonishing rate and participate in hunts becoming stronger and fiercer. During this time the three eyed crow would often be taken to the base of the mountain by his mother and there he was taught how to hunt and scavenge for pray alone and without the assistance of other crows.
The little crow understood that if he could not match the strength of at least the lowest ranked elemental beast he would not survive on his own even in the area just outside the base of the mountain because although rare low ranked elemental beast roamed the area, and any one of those were capable of killing him.
To gain strength the little crow naturally observed his brother the holy death crow who had the fastest growth in strength, during his observations he realized that when resting and eating during the day, light elemental energy would flow towards the holy death crow and at night, darkness elemental energy would flow towards it.
This was what made elemental beast so fierce and powerful they would naturally without doing anything in particular to gather elemental energy and gain strength, although this was also a major problem for most beast who reached the peak of their strength because they could not reach any further heights in elemental energy without finding a rare plant or herb to further strengthen them.
This was the biggest obstacle that the little crow faced although he could somewhat sense the movement of elemental energy he could not get it to flow into him.
This was due in-part to the fact that although he could feel his own presence, it was only a small ball in his forehead.
The major problem however came from the fact that he had no affinity to any elemental energy making the little crow unable to gather it to strengthen himself.
Like this two years passed and the little crow knew that he did not have a lot of time remaining until he was taken once more to the base of the mountain but not brought back.
Knowing this the little crow doubled his efforts in an attempt to either grow strong enough to stay in the murder or survive in the area his mother had taken him countless times.
The little crow also observed the various abilities that the holy death crow had such as curses, healing, and strengthening abilities that it practiced in order to not only have strength but also skill.
Once again the little crow was being held in his mother’s talons heading to the base of the mountain range to gain more experience in finding food and a safe place to stay.
From now until the time the little crow would be permanently left in this area his most urgent priority was finding a safe location, although having a nest on a larger tree was the norm for crows the little crow knew that he did not poses the strength to defend a nest.
Instead the little crow chose to find a safe spot away from the view of any other beast, but he was having no luck in finding such a convenient spot.
After searching for about hour the little crow followed by his mother felt the presence of a low ranked elemental beast so he hid immediately, knowing that his mother would not intervene unless he was on the verge of death.
In the past he had experienced the excruciating pain of being beaten into a near death state in fights with elemental beasts, then right before death could fully embrace the little crow his mother would heal all his injuries and kill the elemental beast that attacked the little crow.
After hiding until the beast left the little crow noticed a second beast heading in the same direction as the first, noticing that neither of the beasts could fly the little crow decided to follow the second beast flying within thirty meters of it so as to not lose track of it.
He made the decision to follow the beast knowing one of them would die in a confrontation and the other would be injured, if the little crow could take advantage of the situation he would be able to get an easy meal. After following the second beast for half an hour it finally attacked the fist, these low ranked beast did not use any special abilities and instead relied on the strength of their body. After a few clashes the first beast had been mortally wounded and in a state of rage and panic attacked ferociously no longer caring about its life, in this state of rage it managed to leave a severe wound on the second beast.
This often happened when a beast was mortally wounded and not instantly killed in their panic and rage they went into a berserker state and continued to attack no longer having any regard for their lives.
After receiving a serious wound the and seeing the maddened beast the second beast left, having no energy to chase the first beast, the second beast could only lay on its back to see a gray crow circling it waiting for its death to make a meal of it. No living creature would want its corpse to be eaten by another creature so this beast decided to play dead for as long as it could to catch the gray crow by surprise and kill it and only then could it die with a small amount of peace, but the little crow never came down and the beast died not understanding why.
The little crow did not go towards the unmoving body of the beast because it could still sense it, this was the only thing that the crow could do that other beast could not he could sense all living beings in a thirty meter radius including beasts, insects, and plants. Because of this ability the gray crow did not immediately go towards the fallen beast and instead waited until it life extinguished, the only remaining problem with this is that the little crow could not sense non-living things such as stones and corpses, but knowing the location of the beast before it died was enough to know its current location.
Once the little crow ate his fill he resumed searching for a safe location to stay. For the next seven months the little crow continued the same routine of hunting small animals, stealing pray, or eating from the leftovers of other beasts that were killed in one way or another. Food was no longer a huge problem but the little crow had a growing fear of not being able to survive during the night.
During those seven months the little crow had been brought out to the area where he would live at night only a few times but those few times were enough for him to understand that without a safe location to hide at night he would not be able to survive much less rest.
Once again looking for a place to stay, while flying the little crow felt the presence of a great number of vines growing vertically meaning this was most likely a Cliffside, deciding to stop a while on the vines the little crow noticed that the vines were filled with thorns which gave him a great idea.
After struggling for half an hour he was able to make a gap in the thorny vines twenty-five meters up the cliff, through the gap the little crow began to dig out a tunnel.
Having not been able to find a safe place to live he had finally decided to make one and the high cliff with a wall of razor sharp thorns made a perfect place to stay because larger beasts in the area would not want to be tangled in the vines, while smaller beast could climb it at the cost of several cuts and a great deal of time.
And in the time any other beast got close the little crow would be able to flee. Noticing what he was doing the little crow’s mother approved of the idea and decided that if the little crow did not finish its cave she would help in its completion but for now she would watch and see how much the little crow could do on its own, she was also very hopeful for his future because she had noticed over time that although the little crow could not see he had a good grasp of his surroundings only making some mistakes when landing on corpses or rocks.
The little crow soon found out that although it could break an inch into the cliff face because it was comprised mostly of dirt, the cliff itself was stone and he did not have the strength tunnel through it. Despite this the little crow did not give up on the location, not knowing what more he could do the little crow began tirelessly pecking and clawing away at the stone in front of him.
After three hours of wasted efforts the little crow began to contemplate giving up on making a cave, but before he did his mother gently moved him out of the way and began to claw at the stone.
Under the sharpness and sheer strength of the matured holy crow’s talons the stone began to give way, after an hour a small tunnel was made with a height and width of around half a meter and a depth of two meters. Going in the small cave that would soon be his new home the little crow noticed a major problem, without any living things inside of the small cave it would be very difficult to find once more after leaving.
The general location could be remembered but the inside was impossible, to fix this issue and add more protection the little crow moved clumps of dirt with tall grass on it to the entrance of the small cave and continued until half the depth was full of tall grass concealing the small cave entrance from sight, but because the little crow could sense the difference between the vines and the tall grass finding the entrance would no longer be a problem.
With the completion of the cave the two crows returned to their nest in the deeper part of the mountain.

The Twelve
In a world marred by the supernatural, Japan suffers from its own fair share of evil and demonic disasters, with generations of shamans known as Onmyoji protecting their homeland from these forces of evil. Capable of wielding magic and using spirits of their own, these shamans were not only skilled in battle, but also divination. However, they were unable to correctly predict Japan's loss in World War Two, and suffered the punishments that followed. Persecuted and torn apart by infighting, the Onmyoji reunited under the banner of the Tsuchimikado clan, descendants of Abe no Seimei, one of the greatest Onmyoji to ever live. The Onmyoji began to rebuild and to regrow. Ren is the sole heir to the Tsuchimikado family, but has been unable to practice Onmyodo ever since his birth, even though he possesses the greatest ability in the family. But when disaster befalls his family, Ren has nobody to turn to, and no idea how to use his powers. As he journeys to escape the same fate his family faced and attempts to learn how to use his powers, there is only one question on his mind; as the Tsuchimikado heir, how can he save the Onmyoji... from themselves? ---------------------------------------------- note from author: I'm writing this based loosely on the very real theories of Onmyodo, and so my writing may not be a truthful or accurate depiction of Onmyodo or other related areas, such as religion, for instance. That is why, while depicted in the real world, events that happen may seem unrealistic and it may be easier to imagine it as a parallel universe that is the same as ours, but with slight differences so that my possible errors will be easier to overlook. Sorry, and thanks!
