Power: A strange plasma from Sky which can “collapse” into worldly energies, such as lightning, fire, wind, healforce, kinetic force, and many other things. Measured in “iotas.” No relation to “power” in physics whatsoever.

The Four Disciplines of Power

If it can be imagined, power has the capability of doing it. However, on Land, the usages of power can be divided into a few broad categories. These are their very basic explanations.

Cultivating: Saturating the body with power to increase strength, reflexes, and longevity. Done primarily through the consumption of pills and foods already saturated with power, though other methods do exist.

Channeling: The usage of mantras to manipulate power and send it through the channels.

Controlling: The usage of power as a signal to control equipment such as Golems and flying discs.

Summoning: The opening of external rifts into Sky to seize and mentally dominate spirits for the purpose of possessing living things on Land (such as ants, lizards, grass, humans, etc.) to turn them into monsters which serve the summoner as long as mental domination is maintained.

Components of a Soul

Soul: The spiritual component of a human, unique to only humans among all the animals in Land. Composed entirely of power, it is strongly correlated with mental ability.

Lake: Situated inside the head, the Lake holds all the power gathered from the Rift. Mantras are performed in the Lake, and the power expended through channeling, controlling, and summoning all drain the Lake. Maximum capacity increases along with any usage of the Lake (channeling, controlling, and summoning) and with age.

Rift: A miniscule portal into Sky at the center of the Lake. Supplies humans with a steady stream of power. Can be expanded through meditation.

Channels: Situated throughout the entire body, the channels regulate power flow. Larger channels increase the amount of power that can be channeled at once (amperage). Stronger channels increases its ability to withstand the strain of overpowering and of highly pure powers (*kinda* like increasing maximum voltage. See power purity). Improved through all forms of channeling

Metrics of Power

Much of this is not yet precisely explained in the series due to the inability of plot to do so, but will be later. However, unlike other mechanics, these will be revealed now.

Power Purity: A measure of how “dense” the power is, in iotas-per-packet, where a packet is a cluster of Iotas. If iotas are atoms, then packets are the elements. A power purity of level 140 is twice as dense as that of level 70, and converts to twice the energy. Used primarily as a measure of a channeler’s ability and the level of one’s soul.

Cultivation Class: A measure of the saturation of packets inside a person’s body but outside of the channels. The precise unit is the concentration, which is the number of packets per cubic centimeter multiplied by average power purity of the packets within the body. Because it is nearly impossible to measure, the unit more widely used is “class,” simply a measurement of how resistant a body is to outside pressure.

Mind Splits: The amount of souls a person has within the body. Mechanics remain unrevealed.

Process of Summoning

Largely unrevealed, but this is what is known.

Ascension: The expansion of the rift within the head, allowing the soul to ascend into Sky. The body which is left behind turns into “summoning dust”

Summoning dust: The leftovers of ascension. Used by summoners to open up rifts.

Mutation: The modification of the vessel’s body during the summoning to add desired features to the monster, such as spikes or wings.
