We moved on after the encounter with the bats and skinned each and every one of them. Hey it said that there shins are very rare so they will probably fetch a hefty price in the market after we get out of here.
Along the way we lost a total of 12 elven soldiers during the fight with the bats and I managed to tale in some very important info that for some reason the elder disregarded to fill me in. Anyhow it seems that there are 3 gates that guard the way towards the exit. And each of these gates has a guardian boss that blocks the passage way towards the next gate.
It seems that we managed to get past passed the first gate unknown to us. And that the purple bat was the first guardian boss. So on our path towards the second gate we encountered quite a few more of those bats but there was no sign of another guardian boss.
With us losing quite a lot of my men it seems like my campaign election to elder plan is about to go to the dumps. No way in hell am I letting that happen! So on our way to the second gate we went by a slower pace making the remaining elves train under me. But with the sudden decline in en it seems they were now reluctant to follow under my leadership. So I had to fix that problem.
We went through a few skirmish with beasts of different creatures without any casualties except for a few slight wounds and bruises. This restored some of their moral and gave me a boost as a leader. The next encounter we had to fight a couple of hundred of burrowers aided with aerial capability of the bats and somehow one way or another we managed to win impeccably without any casualties only some wounds.
This greatly restored their faith in me as well as giving them countless of experience with dancing with death. This leveled them up greatly which made our way towards the second gate a whole lot easier. Another bat came gliding towards us and using the testudo formation and evenly distributing the shock when the bat hit us we weren’t even moved by more than 5 inches.
The elves in the front immediately stabbed and hacked the bat out of its wits. A group of 50 burrowers was now rushing on their way towards us. While another group of 15 bats was sweeping in the air trying to find the right moment of attack.
Huh, they may be strong but the weak has a way of fighting the strong. And through organized formations as well as cooperative battle we have managed to get this far without sacrificing anymore manpower.
5 bats then dove at us in bullet like speed. Upon crashing on the upper shields the formation buckled as they intently crashed. However to their disappointment it wasn’t broken but they were quickly impaled by multiple spears as small openings emerged from the top.
The crowd of burrowers was now nearing and we immediately switched to a phalanx and the outcome was the same as the bats as they were impaled as well. I was stationed along with them as we didn’t have enough manpower. When we were immediately swarmed the formation was immediately broken.

We quickly engaged in combat as the enemy now had a higher casualty. Holding both of my rods I smashed it on the nearest burrower where with a splash of fire and darkness the enemy’s head quickly erupted. Transforming both into swords I quickly dashed off and used dance of the eternal. Black and red blur formed as each and every burrower on my way was sliced on their gut with fire and darkness erupting along with the unforeseeable slash.
By the time the fight was over we were freaking exhausted so we made preparations to rest for the day. We created a small campfire and set up guard duty alternating between ourselves every hours.
The campfire flickered as the burning embers swept through the darkness. I was fully awake unable to find the power to sleep. It has always been like this ever since I was trained in the ravine. I learned how to sleep for 20 hours without sleep only to take a small nap in between. I even learned on how to go on for days without a single wink of sleep only to be fully asleep for a day after without gong for it.
I took the spears and shield fro everyone to maintain them. Sharpening and polishing was all I could do since I didn’t have the adequate tools to repair them plus the clanking noise might attract nearby creatures.
So I made do with sharpening and polishing them regaining some of their durability as well as adding a temporary plus 5 damage to them. When all was set and done I took a meditative pose and started to reflect on my fight.
I was bruised scratched and wounded by that chrysanthemum bat. It seems I underestimated the creatures of the abyss thinking that there would only be burrowers here since they were the only ones I saw during the 5 year training course. And since I was already familiar with them I thought it would be easy. But I forgot I have one crucial disadvantage…Teamwork.
Being raised alone with hardly any interaction with the other kids back then had made me a loner but the fact that I have to protect the elves didn’t occur to my mind. I actually also had to train them since they were actually inferior to me and master but they nevertheless they were still quite strong. However they also had the same problem as I had since it was in their very nature to be alone and when they hunt they were mostly just be themselves as well.
Waking up form my meditative trance I took off the weights and belt from me. Numerous pop ups then appeared in front of my eyes.
Ding!Ding!
Movement restriction has returned to 0%
Temporary movement bonus has been gained. +10 to agility and dexterity for 4 days
I then took my time and slowly went to sleep.
The passage became steeper and steeper as we pressed on. It was becoming far harder to move as we occasionally bumped into ourselves and shields made clanking sounds as it echoed all throughout. We had to be wary of this so as to not alert any of this presence. The way eventually became too small that only 3 elves can fit in an alleyway shoulder to shoulder.

An hour went by and everything went smoothly. We haven’t encountered any resistance so far. It was oddly quiet…Too quiet but that all changed when the burrowers attack!(pardon the line) Multiple holes erupted from the walls and out they came leaping towards us claws at the ready and jaws open almost rearing to take a bite at our flesh.
Shit! This place is to small for the phalanx and I didn’t thin there would be a place this small! Damn it I should have taught them The orb formation or even the wedge. I have regretted that decision of not teaching it to them but the past is the past and we are currently in a bad predicament.
“shields up!” I shouted at them
Shields were immediately raised and the bashing of claws immediately resounded. Grabbing my rods I changed both of them into short spears. I then used blade extension and out they emerged. 4 feet long spears. One of them sparkled red with flames bursting from the tip while the other emanated a black mist .
Positioning myself like a professional javelin thrower in the Olympics. I threw the red spear with all my bodily strength. A streak of red flames trailed midair as it soared and hit the a body of a monster and burned its way out of it and continued its flight while gradually losing speed. Eventually it buried itself on a throat of a burrower as it latched on the side of the walls 30 feet away from me.
The attack killed about 8 yet the degree of the injury from the burning flames of the spear was about twenty victims. Taking hold of my spear I rallied the troops and ordered for them to do a 3x3 testudo formation instead of the regular 4x4. Shields at front and at top, spears at the side ready to strike any moment from now. I was at front hacking and stabbing anything at my vicinity.
Piercing through the hides of the burrowers lie it was nothing more than paper was easy. It plunged itself on the flesh of the creatures. I then slashed it open and continued on. Making a horizontal slashed I cleared away the nearest enemies and immediately yelled.
“Melee!” They immediately opened up their shields and stabbed the burrowers in their vital points.
It wasn’t the most favorable situation for us however If I continued with that form of attack I would soon be swarmed and burrowers are especially dangerous in groups. Sure I fought them every day back then but that was in a LARGE space where I had room for comfort and make use of my agility and speed.
But in this alley they had a total advantage. With numerous tunnels they could pop up from anywhere as well as limiting our movements. Changing the spear into a short katana and then using blade extension I managed to produce a regular size katana.
The elvens were putting up a good fight despite the odds. Ave’lon a male elf that looked to be 24 bashed its opponent away from him and with a fluid motion stabbed it in the chest.
Jaz’tech a female elven who was beautiful enough to be compete in miss universe and most certainly come out as the winner, had already abandoned her shield and spear but instead clutched dual knives in her hand. Her quick and agile moves completely dominated the enemy as she made a flip and landed on the shoulders of the burrower and quickly slit the enemies throat open, like a skilled assassin.
It was then did I realize that each of this elven warriors had their own distinct style of fighting. But by incorporating my stratagems that they were totally new, instead of giving us more of those firepower it rather hindered us than let us advanced. Those lives that were lost could have been saved.
Damn it! I cursed at the insides of my thought, but still with their individuality it would be very hard to use their fighting styles. However if I do managed to create a battle plan and formation using their unique prowess this would ultimately save us the time to recover and move on.
The idea flashed on my mind however that would have to wait as we were on a very tough bind. My thoughts were recalled as I made another horizontal slashed and then yelled as I activated flare tempest.
“Get down!” I yelled as they quickly reacted to y orders and hugged the ground. A wave of heat slowly enveloped the area and then a gust of flames burst as I directed it at the numerous numbers of burrowers. They tried to quickly flee by digging holes and running towards their tunnels.
Only they weren’t fast enough . The lucky ones managed to flee while those that weren’t were charred or already turned to ash. A quarter of them was dead while those that managed to hide quickly went out and lunged towards me.
I jumped back. Again the burrower swung to me while I barely managed to slip away but still managed to graze me at my right cheek. Forcing my leg muscle I quickly gave a jump along with an ascending slash. Blood spewed out from its guts to its head as it quickly fell to the ground in a pool of its own blood.
**Boom!**
Rubbles and debris flew midair as dust began to fill the narrow alley.. I( gave a cough as the dust slowly began to disperse and a looming shadow of a giant appeared. When it finally cleared up I could only utter two words in astonishment.
“Fuck me.”

If Niall wants to save his family, then the man he was needs to transform. Surrounded by Minotaurs, Fae and Magic, Niall will have to reinvent himself as both a warrior and an artisan. Growth won’t be fast and it won’t be easy, but with patience and hard work, Niall can earn the Skills, Abilities and Classes to battle his way to the top. The Flame In The Forge is a LitRPG Isekai/Portal fantasy. You should expect slice of life with conflict and an overarching mystery to be solved. Niall will be both a crafter (primarily, but not exclusively, as a blacksmith) and a fighter. There won’t be a harem. But don't worry, there will be both flames and forges! I should be clear that while this is very much LitRPG, it's story led and I have tried to make it feel believable. So, for example, the first blue box doesn't appear until chapter 6. I hope that the payoff is worth it. Compared to some LitRPGs you may find the pace rather gentle at times. There will be some periods where it feels like Niall is eking out every level and others when, for good reasons, he makes a significant leap. My goal though is to give you a satisfying story, so that dictates when and how Niall's stats and skills change. I can reassure you that I fully intend for Niall to become immensely powerful, but I want you to feel like he has earned every level in a realistic way.
