《Contract: Restart》Chapter 4- part 1

When I returned home sure enough my mother immediately saw my bruises and scrapes. She immediately hurried towards me and questioned me as if I’m some sort of criminal and asked me where I got my injuries. I just told her that I fell down the hill and that my hand hit a few rocks while my feet got bruised.
She gave me a doubtful look and I gave her the puppy dog eyes that says it’s the truth. The puppy dog eyes worked like a charm and immediately she took the excuse as if it was the truth. I’ll be honest it wasn’t the greatest excuse one can think of but since I was still a child she couldn’t believe that I could lie since almost every 3 year olds tell the truth.
Mother then went and took out some bandages. She first carefully washed my feet and hands that were injured. Next she wrapped my hands and feet with bandages. Then a notification appeared.
Ding! You have been bandaged. Your regeneration speed increased by .50 per second
Once the bandaging was over I could almost no longer feel the pain anymore.
“thank you mother”
She flashed me a warm smile and light almost enveloped my body as her light and warm aura enveloped the place. I was about to give in to her kindness when memories of my past came rushing in. I immediately unfold my eyes on the scene that was happening dark aura appeared on my side which countered my mother’s loving and warm aura.
It was cold and merciless. You could almost feel every terrible experience that one had to go through. I then held it in and my aura began to diminish. Good thing is she didn’t notice it very much since she wasn’t an adventurer. If she was one she would have immediately reacted to it.
I gave her a smile and hug her she accepted it knowingly and patted my head.
“Next time you should be careful ok?”
“Ok” I respond.
For the next few months I continued on with my daily training regimen. Increasing my stats and and skills. Until my 4th birthday finally came. My stats and skills now looked like this.

I didn't know if my stats were high or not since I couldn't compare my stats with others. Stats of course were kept in utmost secrecy, never revealing it to others unless you truly believed in them and trust them with your lives. I snickered at the thought, never would I trust anybody again. Fool me once shame on you but fool me twice… Shame on me.
I also found it to level up my skills now. Once the skill reached level 3 it became extremely difficult to level them up. Once when my hand-to-hand combat leveled up to 4 it took me 2 weeks to make it to level 5. Darn it remembering those training made me shudder at the thought. But now that I was 4,mother now agreed to take me to the village center.

It was morning the next day after my celebration when mother called for me and said that she’ll go to the village center and asked me if I would like to go with her. I immediately agreed and exclaimed at what she said. I jumped back and forth across the room in happiness. I can finally find a library and level up my intelligence and wisdom.
So we made preparations and made way towards the village center. It took us 45 minutes to get there. I wasn't shocked at the village because coming from a world filled with cities that could house hundreds of thousands of people. Rather the place looked pretty plain.
There were people haggling for prices some chatting at the fountain in front of us. My head was turning side from side inspecting the village center. I asked My mother where the library was. She told me it was directly in front of the tailor shop she’ll go to so I went ahead and joined her.
When we finally arrived at the tailor shop I said that I’ll just go to the library. She agreed and dictated that I should wait for her no matter what happens. When I entered the library what appeared to me was a small house filled and stacked with countless amount of books. There a few wooden tables and chairs was laid in the side. It looked like a common library only smaller. I looked at the counter and surely a woman about in her 20’s was reading a book.
She then noticed me and eyed me suspiciously. She got up off of her chair and made her way towards me. When she stood in front of me and I looked up to her. She was probably 5’4 or 5’5. She had curvaceous a curvaceous body. Her emerald green eyes poked at my soul whilst her beautiful golden hair swayed with her. I thought of her as a goddess.
{A goddess must have descended} I thought. Still I steeled my heart as I stared at her beauty in awe.
“Can I ask you where the history books are Ms. Librarian.?” I asked giving her a innocent smile trying to ward off her beauty in my head.
She still eyed at me intently and her cold piercing eyes seemed to have seen through my smile. She gave me smug look and asked me.
“Sure kid, but can you even read?” She asked. It was through I didn't know if this world has the same language as us in the other world. I ducked my head .
“No” I replied. She snickered at my answer.
“But I’ll learn it!” I said in an eager voice. The lady obviously taken aback by my reply and enthusiasm showed a smile.
“alright kid if you do learn the language within a 2 week’s I’ll reward you something.” She said
Then a window popped in her face.
Ding!
you have been given a quest
Language barrier
The local librarian has challenged you to learn to read. You have been given a set amount of time according to the librarian.
Quest reward: ???
Quest difficulty: G
{No way} I thought. As I saw the window that now popped in my face.
“I thought only the adventurers guild was capable of giving quests?” I asked her.
She smirked at my remark
“Anyone is capable of giving quests even you! But most people use the adventurers guild as the medium on giving it out because of it’s credibility.” She said with a hint of arrogance on her tone.

“Alright then,I accept” I said.
Ding!
You have accepted the quest
She gave a nod as I accepted her challenge. She then went back to her counter and continued reading her book.
“Feel free to read any of them” She said accompanied by a snicker
One thing I hate more than being betrayed is being looked down by people and This woman I particularly hated. Thus I began to search for books history books mostly. But once I tuned open the book what gave way to my eyes was a complex language that I couldn't understand.
{Oh great! Another hurdle in life! This is why I hated going through life again}
I gave a deep sigh as I looked at the book. This was going to be a long day. I got up my chair again and started searching for books. This time I started with the most basic of the basics. What am I talking about? ABC’s of course. Every country has letters as the foundation of it’s word so this world is probably no different. Thus my long and futile search for a children’s book began. And after 2 hours to no avail I had already ransacked the place but not a single children’s book!!
I shook my head in disappointment. I went to the door of the library and took a final look inside the books…OK! Fine! You Win! At librarian so as to engrave her body erm…I mean her face so that I don’t forget her retort.
{Just you wait!} I declared in my mind as I made my way outside.
I waited outside of the tailor shop for a couple of minutes…45 to be exact until mother finally came out of the shop. She had a look of worry in her eyes. Then a glint from her hand made me curious. I eyed the circular form in her hand that she was forcefully gripping. It showed a hint of reflection with a glossy look to it. It was 2 silvers!
No wonder she had been worried. All her knitting was only worth 2 silvers it could only last them 3 days worth of food. And his father’s pay only comes at the end of the month. This is bad I don’t want to starve to death in this world.
Mother came towards me and as she slowly approached she pocketed the silver in her pouch and went gave me warm smile trying to hide her worry. I gave her a smile as well trying to act like I didn't notice her dismay.
We went towards father’s workplace later on. We passed through countless shops and after a few turns we arrived at a blacksmith shop. There was only one person inside while a shadow loomed at the corner. When it came to view it was father carrying a couple of bags probably filled with ore.
When he looked at mother and me he smiled.
{Man this family sure is full of smiling faces. Why the hell is it always so Full of happy faces. My jaw is already in pain from all the smiling that I did.}
Father entered the shop and dropped the heavy bags on the floor.
***Thud***
The large bags made a sound as father ran towards us earnestly. We had a few simple chat and then mother’s eyes changed she gave a whisper towards father and fathers expression changed as well.
“I’ll try to work it out with the boss”
My mother gave a quick nod as father went inside the blacksmiths shop. A few seconds later there was yelling and then a loud clatter. My mother got nervous and entered the shop. When we entered the shop the loud clatter came from the blacksmith as he swung his hammer at the anvil in frustration from father’s ridiculous request.
Apparently he had asked his boss or the blacksmith, for an advance wage payment. The blacksmith was taken aback by his ridiculous statement. His business was stable since adventurers often flock in this village since it was the only village near the monster’s den in the Eastern frontier. But my father asking for wage would ruin his business since just last month he had done the same.
There was countless of shouting and clamoring while my father pleaded. It was a pathetic sight until I finally stepped in.
“I’ll work for you as an apprentice sir blacksmith so can you spare us father’s wage this month?” I asked with goo-goo eyes stared directly him. My father was shocked from my word’s. The blacksmith then considered my words. He stared at my stature inspecting me from head to toe.
“I’ll consider it if you show me you’re stats kid.”
I gave a nod as I showed him my stats. And a window popped in his face. He thoroughly inspected my stats as his eyes went huge.
“Well you passed the requirements for being an apprentice with flying colors. Alright I’ll give you you’re father’s wage this month BUT only this month!” He said as he flashed me a toothy grin
“No! You don’t have to work son” Objected my father
“It’s alright father, I would also like to know how to smith” I said as I gave him a smile.
His worry and disappointment on himself didn't disappear. Instead it just made it bigger.
“Alright then kid. The names Ashtrall, and I’aint Mr. Nice guy when it comes to work. I’ll drive you like a slave all day long”
The next Day I woke up early along with my father . I also woke up with him two hours early before heading to the blacksmith shop so as to practice my hand-to-hand combat while my father takes his morning jog. Two hours later endurance raised by 1 and my father and I had breakfast before both heading off.
Upon me arriving at the shop the Ashtrall was already there. He gave me a toothy grin while he gestured me to come towards him. When I came towards him he pointed at me a large stack of blades.
“See those blades over there? You’re going to sharpen them” As he took a whetstone and gave it to me.
My eyes stared at disbelief. This enormous amount of blades would take him all day to sharpen. Heck it could even take him a week. I gave a deep sigh, oh well nothing he could do about it anymore. I started by taking a blade and grinded it with the whetstone. It made a
***Shnnnn***
Was all that could be heard as I started sharpening the blades. A couple hours later an apparent sound came to my ears.
Ding!

I gave a grin at the skill and started to work my way out of the pile of blades as my new skill slowly raised it's level
