《Contract: Restart》Chapter 3

***Splash***
The large bucket filled with water fell to the ground as it made a large thump. A sudden notification then appeared on my face.
Ding!
Strength has increased by 1
I gave a grin as the notification appeared. I took pleasure in the message since I decided to increase my stats. My parents as well thought that my stats was my ticket out of this peasants life. Thus I decided to engage myself in hard labor and trained my body to the utmost limit. I then went up the hill as there was a nice shade that loomed there from a giant tree.
But then I thought up of a better Idea. I went inside of our house and there mother was sitting on a chair filled with neatly knitted scarfs and mittens. Winter was approaching so my mother thought that it was best if she knitted winter apparels so that it would provide the household with extra income. I ran towards the attic at full throttle.
“Don’t run at the stairs Himalos”
My mom shouted in frustration. “Ok” I responded without looking back and. When I was finally at the attic I searched for a rope, and thereupon I found it. I then hurried again outside ignoring mother’s yelling. I once again searched outside but this time for rocks. I saw a medium sized perfect for my small stature. I walked towards it and closely inspected the rock.
{Good, This will do nicely} I thought as I tied a sailors knot around it and then I tied the rope around my waist. I then checked the rope double checking if it was tight enough.
“All right let’s do this”
I took a deep breath and started to run towards the hill whilst dragging the rock behind me. I was making small progress towards the top. It took me a total of 30 minutes to reach the top and then.
Ding!
Agility increased by 1
{Great}
“Now all I have to do is gain that certain skill that I need.”
I untied the rope in my waist and took a deep breath. I started doing some stretches and squats as well as few pushups since my body still can’t handle my weight very much, I did the stretches for about 45 minutes and then another familiar noise came.
Ding!
You gained the skill flexible body lvl.1(beginner)
Flexible body lvl.1(beginner)
The users body will become flexible allowing it to dodge certain attacks that could do harm to the user’s body.
Effects:
• +5% able to negate critical attacks.
• +3% can dodge attacks
This surprised me greatly this wasn’t the skill I was trying to generate but sill this was terrific skill giving me a chance to negate critical attacks is crucial in battles. I continued on with the stretches and then moved on to the squats and pushups. I did the squats and pushups for 2hours and a half, I then stopped right there as a familiar sound once again interrupted my ears.
Ding!
Strength increased by 1
I ignored it this time and took a deep breath.
“Okay time to get serious”
I raised my fists and leveled it to my chest. I then a shifted 70% of my weight to my back leg. I Took a forward step and gave a roundhouse kick leveled almost exactly with my head. A whish sound was generated as my kick made contact with the air.
I was surprised yet again. I mean my kick was pretty high for someone who just started to practice . It must probably be because of the flexible body skill that made my kick higher than ordinary ones. I started to laugh at the thought of it.
“Wow ordinarily in my past life it would take a week of daily stretching to achieved that flexibility”
{This is good} I thought and started to assume my fighting form again and started to throw my kicks. I started with my roundhouse kick again and then tried different ones. Axe kick, 45 kick, push kick, full moon, turning side, turning long and a bunch of other ones. I also mixed my kicks with a few punches. I threw some light jabs hooks and uppercuts. I continued on with this process for countless of hours.
I was now bathed in sweat at my toils and labor, then the sound of miracle finally was heard.
Ding
You gained the skill hand-to- hand combat
Hand-to-hand combat lvl.1 (beginner)(passive)
Through countless toils and labors of practicing the foundation of fighting you are now able to inflict higher damage unarmed.
Effects:
• Damage +5
• Defense +15
Limitation Ignorance lvl.1(beginner)(passive)
By pushing yourself to the limits you are able to push your body further and for longer time will be able to ignore it’s complains. However you will suffer the drawbacks after 24 hours within its use.
I was elated with the skills that I generated.
{finally!} I thought as I made gasps for air. Obviously exhausted, my body couldn’t move from me pushing it to the limits. I collapsed on the ground and fell on my back. I made more gasp for air and I took a large deep breath. As air entered my lungs. My throat drew back from it. My lips were dry and my throat was searching for water. I noticed that the sky was already enveloped with the color of orange I panicked since It was almost nightfall.
{Damn it mother will scold me if I return home late!}
I swallowed my saliva as I tried to stand up. My legs were wobbly but I forced it to remain firm and I ran towards the house. Upon nearing the door I opened it and went to my room. But I first took a shower so as my mother won’t complain to how smelly I am.
I went to the bathroom and stripped of my clothing. I took the dipper and scooped upped the water from the bucket and poured it on myself. Brrrrrrr! The water was cold and the wind coming from the small hole in the wall didn’t make it any warmer.
As soon as I was over with my bath. I went directly to my small room, and fell on the hard bed
***Thump***
{Oh shit that hurts} I screamed in my mind as I got up and rubbed my face. It was smacked with red from the impact.
{Darn it !, This bed sure is fricking hard} I complained in my mind as the pain kept me from my drowsiness and exhaustion. I then thought of watching my stats and how far it has gotten.
“Show status”

The stats progressed very well 3 weeks after my birthday; I guessed my toil and labor wasn’t completely useless. What bothered me however was raising my intelligence and wisdom stats. I couldn’t raise them since there was no books in our homes and whenever mom went to the village center or go to deliver my father’s lunch. She wouldn’t take me there since I thought I could go to the library to raise my intelligence and wisdom there. Instead she left me with our neighbor, Mrs. Almeers. A nice old lady with 2 grandkids twice my age and whom I think are very annoying.

This time I tried checking out my skills.
“Show skills”
Skills
• Blessing of Kairos lvl.1(beginner)
• Spreader of the faith lvl.1(beginner)
• Warrior’s instinct lvl.1 (hereditary)(beginner)
• Flexible body lvl.1(beginner)
• Hand-to-hand combat lvl.1(beginner)
• Limitation Ignorance lvl.1(beginner)
All of my skills were level 1 but 3 of them I just gained recently. I gave a deep sigh as I The other 1 skill boggled my mind. The blessing of Kairos, I didn’t know how to level it up, I racked up my brain on how to level up the skill since it gave me a plus 10% to all of my skills. I’ve figured out how to level up the warrior’s instinct that I’ll incorporate on my training next time. Whilst Spreader of the faith will probably level up depending on how much people I’ll get to follow the faith of Kairos .
I gave another sigh as I dismissed my stats and layed on the bed.
Oh well I’ll think about it next time, as my eyes slowly went shut and went to sleep.
The next day I woke up early and felt pain sear through my body and then a message appeared on my face.
Ding!
Limitation ignorance drawback will now take effect.
I ignored the message and waited at the door. Every step that I made pain coursed through my entire body as if I’m being whipped yet I tried to ignore it. When I reached the door I stood there completely still Immediately Father came over and was surprised that I was there already and waiting for him. I had already figured out dad’s daily habits . He wakes up early and takes a 2 hour run after that he returns home and takes breakfast and goes to the blacksmith shop that he works in, employed as the one that does all the heavy lifting.
“Father can I ask you for something”
“well this is a pleasant surprise” he said while laughing, his hair was shining even in the darkness.
“alright Himalos, what is it that you want? do you want father to bring you a gift from the village?” he asked. Knowing him he would probably just buy me a cheap trinket from the street and he’ll just say he bought it at a very famous store since I still haven’t went to the village center.
I shook my head to indicate I don’t want a present from him. Instead I opened at the door and went outside. He followed me outside as well and then I pointed at the hill near our house then I said.
“Can you make me a training dummy dad?” I asked matching it with innocent eyes as to convince him. I knew very well every parent’s weakness. It was the fact that every parent can’t ignore a his or her child pleading for something.
“Sure kiddo, but what will you use it for?” He asked this time in a perplexed voice. I can’t tell him that I ‘ll be using it for training. Since whoever have heard of a 3 year old knowing martial arts?
“I’m going to show it to my friends and boast to them that my father is the best since he can make me this dummy!” I told him. Flattery will get you to high places and with just a little innocent eyes of a kid and flattery and boom! You get a full proof win-win guaranteed deal.
“alright kid, instead of running I’ll work on your wooden dummy”
As he walked outside happily with a huge smile on his face. Yes this is greats. Although It took him a week to make it and place it on top of the hill since he needed to get the materials for it. Over the course of that week I continued with my daily training and advanced my flexible body to level 2, while using warrior’s instinct to give me additional strength and agility while practicing my hand-to-hand combat. The results Warrior’s instinct was at level 2 while hand-to-hand combat was at level 3. I also gained +3 to my strength, +1 to agility, +2 to vitality, +1 to dexterity.
When the wooden dummy was finally installed by my father he put his hands on his hips and gave a nod. He was satisfied with his work and patted me on the head. We then went back to the house and ate our breakfast, when he was done he got up and kissed my mother on the cheek and patted me on the head again as he went to work.
When noon came I tied the rope to my waist again and ran towards the hill while dragging the stone. When I reached the to I continued on with my training regimen. When it was over I took up fighting stance and prepared myself to land some blows to the wooden dummy.
I gave a strong punch at the pits and then. Thump! A sound came from the dummy as my fist made contact. I took my arm and yelped in pain. The wooden dummy injured me as well. It was so hard that my fist became bright red. My eyes began to water as the pain seared through my arm, but still I pushed on I continued hitting the wooden dummy and the pain kept on getting stronger yet despite all this my drive kept me going.
“Warrior’s instinct!” I screamed as the skill activated
I felt power surged through my body. I rushed the wooden dummy with a flurry of punches and kicks. My hand and feet were screaming at me to stop. I was wincing in pain inside of my head but still I continued on with the training for 2 hours. This time my feet and fists were both bruised and bloody. The skin on my fists were scraped while my instep was in bright red starting to give a shade of purple.
Ding!Ding!Ding!

Many Minded
Synopsis: Issa Pyxis, Spacer orphan and illegal heretic, graduated from living on the streets to running with a gang years ago, but now it looks like that’s all going to change. Her inheritance, more specifically who—or what—she is, is catching up with her, and on a planet with the Emperor’s inquisitors slinking around in every shadow, nowhere is safe and no one can be trusted. What will she do? A cyberpunk story about identity, loneliness, covert infiltration, evil dystopias, and much more! Features: - Cyborgs and cyberpunk galore - This is indented to be somewhat “rational” and “hard” Sci-Fi story - Original Fiction however parts of my worldbuilding are inspired by other Sci-Fi stories (duh) Rationale: The future is cool, AIs are kickass, and questions about consciousness are simultaneously existential and yet unanswered. To me, this story is a vehicle for exploring these topics, and also, I wanted to write a story where the protagonist was unafraid of themselves and where their self is more like a git-repo than a meat computer. Disclaimer: This story primarily takes place in what we’d describe as a “cyberpunk dystopia” with some extra technocracy, autocracy, and religious fervor thrown into the mix, so there will be some “grittiness” in this story. Caveat emptor. Also, [insert your favorite boilerplate “views expressed” disclaimer here]. I shouldn’t need to say this, but the main character and other characters in my story can be wrong on occasion (gasp!) and the way they view the world isn’t always objective truth (if such a thing even exists) nor do their views and opinions necessarily reflect the views of me, the author. Rage: Crisis / Consequence / ???
Its been ten years since Seth was given his powers, ten years since his town was driven mad by that very same power, and ten years since its source was shunted into his head. Regret for the deaths that town perpetuated, the devastation they brought, the blow they served to the once proud heroes of this world. Heroes Seth now hopes to join, hopes to heal and atone to for what transpired. But their wounds run deep, their ire sharp, and their acceptance thin. And to top it all off... Seth's power is run far deeper than he knows, and sees his world in a light all its own. This series is my first foray into authoring, with two parts out of at best four if the readership stands. But part three will still book end nicely otherwise. And I'm not stopping till then. It is action heavy with varied and ramping up fight scenes through out. (Book 1 is heavy / Book 2 a little lighter) It is bloody in places, mildly gory in others, and heavily gory in simulated places. Nothing truly horrifying, I think, but be warned. It has trauma. PTSD is a major part of the story, but I will never trust that I got it completely right, so your mileage may vary on how believable or impactful it is. Lastly it has language. Swearing ebbs and flows as the story progresses and attitudes harden or soften. Sometimes bleeding through into the narration... somehow.
