《Rain Revert》Volume 2 Chapter 9

V2 Chapter 9
After non-stop fast traveling for a day, Rain and Alba gradually approached his first human city.
As their distance from the City decreased, Rain was also somewhat astonished to discover that the human flow that was heading in the same direction as he, had begun to increase.
In a place close to the Desolate Plain, it was only natural that some conflict would erupt with the presence of more people. Rain initially felt somewhat surprised at the belligerence of the people in this place as they saw bloody battles appearing periodically. In the end, he was actually able to ignore them just like Alba walking beside him.
They continued traveling in this manner. It was only when evening arrived did an enormous city outline become partially visible at the edge of their sight…
“No matter how you look at it, that is a freaking fantasy fortress-town!”
Spread out before his eyes are a wide rocky road. And by the road is a strong looking wall made of stone that looks like it came from the Middle Ages.
—That enormous city at the end of the main road finally appeared in Rain’s sight as they approached.
Rain studied the towering city wall from a distance as he stood on the top of a slope. Shock flashed across his eyes.
For a first-timer like him, it was indeed difficult to not be shocked by the spectacular view. The brown colored city wall, that seemed to be extended to the horizon, contained a frigid feeling. Under the remaining sunlight, the brown-colored city wall appeared just like a mirror that reflected a faint glow.
“Beautiful…though, my first adventure seemed to not be a tranquil one~” Rain smiled bitterly as he turned his gaze to the human crowd where fierce auras repeatedly passed. He let out a sigh from his mouth.
He could not help but feel somewhat curious.
He had met quite a number of people with great strength during his journey to this place. Moreover, by the looks of their route, it was obvious that they were heading to the same city. With so many strong people, who possessed fiery, odd tempers, being gathered in such a city, it was likely that the subsequent days in this city would not be calm.
Chaos was a peculiar atmosphere that this Buzzling City possessed in great quantities. No matter how strong a faction was, it was impossible to completely stop the formation of this kind of chaos.
The people within the Buzzling Town—the border of the Desolate Mountain Region and was the Border defensive wall of the Delouria Kingdom, ignored any order or rules.
Rain saw that there were many people here and there and some of them were passing through a huge gate.
They seemed like adventurers straight out of fantasy novels that he had read before in his original world.
Rain once again felt that he certainly had come into a different world because of the armors and unusual weapons the people were wearing, which looked like it came from a fantasy world or a game.

Covered thick with blood, they looked like they recently came out of the forest to hunt and kill monsters. You could also see most people evading them as they went their way.
The size of one’s fist was the most important truth!
Rain laughed out loud as these thoughts flashed in his heart. He did not discriminate against chaos. He knew that as long as one possessed sufficient strength in the Desolate Mountain Region, that person would be an exalted individual.
Looking at the large City covered by a wide and tall rampart, Rain suddenly had an impulse to look up to the Heavens and roar one time to vent off the excitement in his heart, after successfully reaching the city. Fortunately, he suppressed this impulse, or else these peoples would have treated him as a madman.
"Finally, finally a civilization!!"
Rain tried his hardest to stop himself from crying while trembling with an expectation of finally talking with people.
“Let’s go.”
Restraining his excitement, Rain waved his hand. He smiled at Alba by his side and took the lead to walk toward the city’s entrance.
The silver wolf nodded slightly when she heard this. According to what Rain had gathered so far, apparently, there were gateways into the city on sides, east and west, north and south.
Probably because they saw a beautiful snow wolf—it was an extremely rare creature in this region, besides Rain, travelers, merchant, and players moved a considerable distance away from them as they headed to the city--many people cast one or two glances at Rain and Alba.
Curiosity and Interest flashing across their eyes.
From outside, great walls of stone and metal encased the entirety of the city. Over the top of the wall, three-story buildings and varied towers could be seen.
Rain continued to follow the paved road that leads to a large gate while he observed the appearances of the players nearby.
Weapons are spears, swords, and bows. Eh, is that a magician with the cane? It was really marveled to see such variety of fantasy looking people everywhere as if it was the norm—no, it was actually normal, in this world—however, for Rain who was detained inside the Desolate Cave and with only monsters as his companions, people looking like this was still a sight to see.
Although he didn’t realize it, the people noticed that there were being observed and, maybe because they were wary of the snow wolf beside him, they just watched Rain without doing anything.
However, that wasn’t the case for Alba, who was extremely alert and vigilant, unlike the carefree Rain. Her ruby colored eyes carelessly swept over the passersby around who were repeatedly throwing their gazes over.
A wintry expression suddenly appeared in her pupils, causing a feeling of danger to be raised in the hearts of these people. All of them hurriedly withdrew their presumptuous eyes.
The snow wolf only lets out a cold snort as she sensed the gazes swiftly withdraw. Her exuberance was slowly being withdrawn into her hand. As long as she makes a move, this path would immediately become one void of life except for those individuals who were strong--well, if she went all out, even this City might not last a few days, turning into a winter paradise.

Alba only quickened her soft steps and followed Rain. Although she was no longer cold, indifferent after following beside Rain during this period of time, that was only on the precondition that she was facing Rain and his friends. If it was an ordinary passerby, the Snow Wolf King would have total disregard for their lives.
It was fine for her to take them. If one killed too many, one would naturally feel numb to the loss of human lives, especially the Snow Wolf was original a monster, a beast of slaughter. The numbers who had died in her hands during these years had likely reached a figure that was difficult to count. It was already extremely difficult for her to suppress that cold and indifferent feeling in front of Rain. However, she still endured and restrained all her impulses as to not display a wicked model in front of her beloved son. Despite knowing he would not really care, she still wanted to portray a good motherly figure in front of him. I guess this is what they call, the pride of a Mother...?
Even as a beast, she too has her own pride and ego.
The coldness on the road quietly scattered after Alba turned around and left. Numerous gazes were filled with alarmed as they looked at the graceful figure far in front. They immediately wiped off some cold sweat. It was unexpected that this beast was not an ordinary monster. Fortunately, they did not boldly step forward earlier.
Otherwise…
A chill surged out of the hearts of these passersby as they recalled her emotionless eyes that stared at them.
They felt as though they had been stared at by a poisonous snake.
This monster was someone that they could not offend.
In that sense, the Beastmaster who owned such a monster would surely be out of their reach—vigilant eyes filled with awe and interest followed Rain’s figure. Surely, he wasn’t a simple youth…!
Rain and Alba walked down the slope and traveled for some distance before the enormous city gates appeared in front of their eyes. A long human queue was formed outside of the city gates. Loud noises spread from this place as if it was a rock band concert with many people yelling and shouting without care, causing one’s ear to feel a slight pain. Especially for those who are not quite used to this kind of situation.
Alba’s eyes narrowed as she looked at the many men gathered together. They had naked upper bodies that revealed their scars all over, seemingly trying to show off their trophies. Being overprotective of her only son, Alba felt extremely disgusted by their showing off. What would they do if they tainted her son’s eyes? Could they bear the consequences?!
If she was not with Rain, she would have turned these shameless people into pieces of art called Ice Sculptures in an instant to protect mother nature.
Rain narrowed his eyes and swept over the entrance of the city almost like he was aware of her wolf’s mother’s concern. However, he still retained his casualness. If this spectacle appeared in his previous world, surely a racket would appear…
“Hei, this youth is a beast tamer. It has been a long time since I have seen such excellent stuff.”
“A Beast Tamer huh… a trash profession!”
“He-he, that little wolf is not bad too. That snow white fur is wonderful…”
“However, such a weak looking beast tamer coming in this place, hei hei, he had guts…!”
“Ha ha, indeed. Well, beast tamers are always weaklings who relied on their monsters to fight.”
“Such weakling, he couldn’t blame anyone if he suddenly robbed without him noticing!”
"The Snow Wolf's fur would fetch quite a large sum!"
"Ha ha ha,"
A lewd ear-piercing laughter was suddenly transmitted over as Rain’s eyes swept over the situation at the city’s entrance.
Rain slowly withdrew his gaze from the city’s entrance. His eyes were calm as he followed the voice and glanced over, only to see ten plus burly-looking men gathered together. Those mocking gazes repeatedly swept over him and Alba. The surrounding queuing people involuntarily emitted laughs riddled with deeper meaning when they heard the insulting laughs of this group.
Being able to see such weaklings, who thought themselves infallible and coming into this kind of place were sore eyes, having their liberties taken during this harsh wait would be considered a good way to pass their time.
The Snow Wolf’s expression did not change because of this.
“Let’s go…”
The corner of Rain’s mouth was lifted into a strange smile. However, he did not go and fight with these burly-looking men as everyone had expected. Instead, he turned his head and smiled to Alba before walking to the city’s entrance.
“Boo…”
This action of Rain immediately aroused some disdainful booing from the surroundings. The Desolate Region looked up to the strong. A person who acted like nothing had happened after he was being humiliated was something that others saw as extremely shameful.
A weakling is always a weakling.
They are a shame of the world…!
“Ha ha…”
The ten plus large men were initially startled when they saw Rain’s actions. They began to wildly laugh. However, the bodies of these ten plus people strangely solidified just as their laughter sounded.
Immediately…
Woosh. All the people who were laughing and mocking Rain suddenly turned into Ice Statues.
This sudden scene caused a strange silence covering the entire place...

Of Gods and Dungeons
March 16, 2021 - Hiatus note: I will come back to this story! I'm really struggling with it, though. It's been a number of years and I kind of forgot what the original outline was. I still remember the main path, but not any of the details, because I stupidly didn't write an outline. Progress is being made. I'd like a very decent sized buffer before I start posting again. Don't want to get hopes up only to immediately disappoint! ----- Amy Barnes, an aspiring chemical researcher, finds herself dying from cancer. One of her most desperate prayers is answered in a way that she'd never dreamed possible, and she finds herself living a new life as a dungeon. Warning: Violence, morbidity Cover: Taken from here, courtesy of www.pexels.com by photographer @tookapic. Author's Note: I've read some dungeon core stories on here, and they've tickled my fancy. I've thought up a whole story, start to finish, and thought it'd be a blast to put it into words. Other than the violent and morbid aspects, this story is suitable for children. Aside from the vocabulary, that is. I will avoid the temptation to have any cursing, sexuality, or gore. Excessive gore, I suppose - it is a dungeon story, after all. I’ll do a little research from time to time, but this story will not have a great deal of rigor. I’ve made Amy’s knowledge comparable to my own for that reason. There’s a few things she knows more about than I do, and a few things that she knows less about. Unlike me, she doesn’t have access to Google - it’s a non issue for her to be more knowledgeable than me, on occasion :P This story does not use the same magic system that I’ve used in either Sorcery in Boston or A Summoner’s Confession. This one is mostly intention based, and designed to be easier access for people who are more used to the idea of, “It’s magic, therefore it works” kind of thinking. Do note that Amy is, in most senses of the term, overpowered. This goes along with the usual dungeon core stories. She’s not more powerful than other dungeons per se, but she does have knowledge and intelligence that puts them to shame. I thought about doing this in a LitRPG style, but systems take balance, and I wanted this to be pure fun to write. This story was inspired from a few sources. Despite the title, it wasn’t really inspired by Of Mice and Men, though some of the themes match. Rather, I’ve taken inspiration from a few dungeon core novels on Royal Road Legends for the main idea. Many conventions of dungeon core stories have been perverted from the genre, however. I’ve taken my usual science-loving self to town to play around with the powers, and I can only hope you have half as much fun reading this as I have had writing it.
