V2 Chapter 5
Bang! Bang! Booom! Bang!
As Shisha began to apply medicine to Runa’s physical wounds while offering a Medicine Pellet with a face full of worry and heartache, the members of the escort group, the mercenaries led by the tall, handsome youth fought against the massive giant of a Cyclops.
A thunderous roar rang out, and a feeling of blind fury and fierceness could be sensed within the roar. It was evident that the Cyclops had been completely enraged.
ROOOAAARRR!!
This roar formed a sonic impact as it spread out. It caused a large part of the forest to be blown away by a large wooden club. A few unlucky individuals were going to be directly smashed by this large club and had to immediately protect their bodies with magic and innate strength.
“Be careful everybody. It’s finally enraged!” A roar filled with magic power rumbled.
Bang!!
The ground seemed to tremble at this moment. The trees in the vicinity were uprooted and a large fissure appeared in the ground.
The display of strength was extremely shocking.
“Frozen Halo!!”
Boom!
The white, icy torrent descended down towards the massive giant; at the same time, an extremely formidable magic power fluctuation emitted out.
In front of the struggling Cyclops whose limbs were slowly turning to ice, a tall handsome youth was floating while casting his magic spell!
This attack had become the signal for the battle.
As for Shisha, she brought Runa who at the same time was bringing something, in which for the first time, Shisha had noticed. “Runa, who is this?” Shisha frowned as she saw the thing that Runa was bringing from the back of the horse…
“That is…” Amidst the dried tears, Runa smiled bitterly. “I don’t know…”
“Huh?!” Shisha’s brows furrowed, not understanding what she was talking about.
“Actually two days ago, when our group was on its way back towards the town, we heard some explosions and roars… it was the sound of fighting… then this unknown battle almost got us involved unluckily. Though, because of this, I was separated from the group as I had fallen into some sort of crevice accidentally…”
“I was asking for help but the battle seemed to have scared the second young bishop—that immoral bastard and instead of helping me, they run away…” Runa sigh in bitterness.
“What!!? He did that?! That bastard!”
“Hmm…Hiissss” Runa nodded but then she let out a hissing sound when Shisha’s ointment was spread through her wounds. It was extremely painful…
“I don’t know what happened afterward… when I managed to raise myself up from the crevice, everything around me, even at the direction of the Golden Toad Swamp was almost destroyed. I heard that you are going to the Golden Toad Swamp for an expedition and I wanted to come along but ours had left so early… That was why, at this time, I was planning to wait for you there but something happened…”

“…?”
Runa sighed as she turned towards the man lying on the ground. “I saw him, beside the swamp, like large black firewood, motionless and seemed almost dead…I really thought he's dead.”
Shisha turned her head and looked at that motionless person lying face down on the grass. Her heart grew somewhat apprehensive. While she and Runa had this conversation, she didn’t see any movement from him. Is this person dead or alive…?
She was about to step forward to examine him, but then suddenly saw that this person was wearing an all-black, long robe with a beautiful snow-white fur line up around the neck, seemingly made up from a high-level magical beast’s fur.
At his wrist, a beautiful silver-golden bracelet could be seen, coiling around his wrist in a strange form—like a vine filled with thorns. A silver belt inlaid with several precious looking gems was at his waist.
Moreover, the black and purple uniform decorative designs were all hand-embroidered. It looked very exquisite and gorgeous. Just based on what he was wearing, from head to toe, established that he was wealthy and respectable.
“Oh? This person seemed not a person of humble birth…” Shisha gasped softly. His clothes and personal ornaments, if one pawned or sell all of them, a beggar would certainly become a millionaire in one night…!!
“I know… I wondered if he was probably from famous clans and families but, the strange thing is, I never seen him before…” Runa nodded her head.
Shisha was now curious and took the initiative to come over. Flipping the unconscious man with her foot, she finally saw the full appearance of the youth.
“Poison…?!” Shisha exclaimed in surprise. Around 18 to 20 in ages and yet the youth’s face seemed to have been smeared with paint.
The entire face was in a strange golden-like color, it was a completely different color from his white neck. However, she was able to make out the outline of his facial features clearly.
It was a cold, handsome face, with thick eyebrows, a high straight bridge of a nose, and extremely beautifully-shaped lips. In its entirety, he made people feel a bit cold and stiff. Shisha had almost a preconception that this youth might possibly be one of those rumored Sunlight Elf from his facial color. However, now was not the time to think about this. Shisha stretched out her hand to test his breathing. His breathing was continuous and long, so he was still alive. Also, there didn’t seem to be other injuries on his body. In fact, it as if he was just sleeping normally.

Despite this, a person adept in medicinal ways, she knew that it wasn’t so. Because no normal person wouldn’t have reacted after being kicked about like that from just a moment ago.
“Hmm, that’s what I thought as well. Thus, wanting to save him, I immediately rushed back to the city, or probably met up with you along the way… who knows I would actually grab that monsters attention—!!” Runa gritted her teeth in frustration as well as hatred. She almost lost her life…
This goddamn beast!
In fact, the present Runa was starving. She had not eaten in two days, focusing herself on running and escaping this deadly accursed forest!
In these two days, bringing the unconscious youth, Runa had hidden left and fled right, going through much suffering to barely escape from the clutches of death.
Upon explaining his plight, Runa stared at Shisha with a hopeful expression on her face. “Can you save him?”
“Why do you go so far for him…? You didn’t even know him!” Shisha frowned. She then throws out a kick on the unconscious youth’s stomach. And that person lying on the ground, the corner of his mouth could not help but twitch a bit. However, the curvature of that movement was very small, so small that no one noticed it.
“Because I’m a knight!” Runa answered with a firm and determined expression. What could be seen in the depths of her eyes was an unwavering determination to succeed or die trying!
There was no other explanation because she was a knight!
A Knight embodies great values and virtues—Courage, Modesty, Justice, Honesty, Mercy, Generosity, Compassion, Faith, Sacrifice, Honor, Nobility, Hope, Fairness, and Perseverance—that was why she wanted to become a knight in the first place!
She adores knight since childhood, admiring their selfless virtues and love their heroic acts.
She wanted to save people, protect those who needed protection—no matter who they are!
Seeing Runa’s determined face, Shisha could only sigh bitterly. She had known Runa since childhood, they were best friends and she knows that the stubbornness of this girl is not to be underestimated.
“Fine… if that’s what you want… but, next time, if something happened again like this, you better run away as fast as the wind and quick as lightning and not be so stubborn as to lose your life! Knights can only save and protect people if they are alive—!! If I found out that you didn’t listen to me, I will tell uncle to drag you back to the Imperial City…” Shisha said while putting on a fierce face, being resolute and not giving any ground to her. She was serious…
“Sister Shisha…” Runa furrowed her brows in reluctance and unwillingness.
“Stop—this is for your own good!” The moment she said this, Shisha’s tone turned exceptionally severe. Then, she crouched down and personally examined the unconscious youth.
This person had long arms and legs, although he wasn’t the tall and sturdy type, he was healthy and lean. He would definitely be considered ideal counterpart in build among her female acquaintances.
He had brows as sharp as swords and his thin lips almost as delicate as a girl…
His body was thin and slender, unlike those people with bulky muscles, however, when Shisha touched the youth’s skin, it’s as if she was electrocuted—they were packed to the brim, hiding explosive power while not distorting the proportion… it’s as if they were compressed to their utmost limit—this guy is not ordinary…
This was the first judgment made by Shisha as she examined the unconscious youth. How come someone like his age has such almost perfect ideal body…?
Shisha was startled. Even those who had work-out all their lives in training, wouldn't be able to possess such a perfect body as muscles would often bulge out due to the density. Even still, this person's body was strange as it didn't distort the form while fortifying his physical body to the utmost limit. Weird and uncommon...!
“However… these symptoms…” Shisha frowned as she looked at every corner of the youth’s face.
“Sister Shisha… can you save him?” Runa asked worriedly. Although she doesn’t know about the youth, she doesn’t want to let all of her efforts in vain. She had almost died saving him so naturally, she never wanted for the youth to die…
“Runa… you said that you have seen him first, close to the Golden Toad Swamp…?”
“That’s right,” Runa nodded her head.
Shisha sigh helplessly. “It's no use then. This person… is poisoned by the Golden Toad's Blood…”

Hazelsong: A LitRPG Novel
Release Schedule: I will be moving to a set release schedule as of 1/1/2022. A new chapter will be released every Saturday at Noon EST. If I have time that week for a second chapter, I will leave a note on the Saturday chapter and post the second chapter on Sunday at Noon EST. An up to date character sheet for the MC Erik will also be posted on Sundays at 12:15 PM. If life happens and I am for some reason unable to write that week, I will post a blank chapter giving you an update on where I am with my writing. Saturday Noon EST: First weekly chapter Sunday Noon EST: Second weekly chapter (if I have the time) Sunday 12:15 EST: Updated character sheet Synopsis: Years after surviving a deadly accident, Erik struggles to come to terms with his painful disability. When offered the chance to playtest the world's first full immersion VRMMO, he wants nothing more than to retreat back into his secluded life, until he learns what Hazelsong really offers. An escape from the pain. Hazelsong is a world of magic and adventure, a place where friendships are formed, loot is won, and glory and fame are there for the taking. While the threats feel real and the stakes are always high, there is only one thing Erik is really in danger of. Forgetting which world is actually real. Story Themes: Hazelsong is a LitRPG novel that not only explores the fictional world of a realistic online fantasy realm but the life of a man suffering in silence from chronic pain and PTSD due to a significant physical injury and disability. Mental health is an important subject and we all know at least one person in our lives who has or is dealing with some form of mental illness. I plan on putting my best effort forward to represent these illnesses in a fair and accurate manner. Not as a cheap plot device to help make the protagonist more unique, but to help paint an accurate picture for those of us who have been lucky enough to not have to suffer in silence. About the Author: I am Ash Durra, general video game nerd and a connoisseur of fantasy and sci-fi of all shapes and sizes. Needless to say, I am not a professional author (B.S. and M.S. in Education, 8 years teaching). After really getting into LitRPG novels over the past several years, I found my way to Royal Road, which has inspired me to use my spare time to begin writing a story of my own creation. As this is a hobby, I am not writing and posting chapters on any kind of specific schedule at the moment, though my goal is to post on average 1-2 chapters a week. I am incredibly excited to share this story with others as I write it, and I look forward to any constructive feedback about how I can improve in my writing.

Iron and Wood - A Tale Of Empire and Clans
For centuries, the Midlands had been split into fragments. A once glorious, united Empire has become a shadow of its former self. Unity has not returned, and not for the lack of trying. The greatest of these successor states were the Li Dynasty to the south, the rulers of old, and the Emerald Empire to the North, with its vibrant vitality. Unity is the end goal, and both will sacrifice anything to attain this elusive dream. For unity would surely solve the conflict that had long plagued this once prosperous continent. The Ironwood Clan was a prime player. Some would consider them the ones holding the reigns to the horse named 'Unification'. Iron and wood were the backbones of civilization; similarly, the Ironwoods were the backbones of the Northern Empire, and by extension, the people of the Midlands. Their methods, as questionable as they might be, had strengthened the North. Yet, were they enough? In the midst of it all, a young Ironwood who had lost his path must once again find his way. For the sake of his own wellbeing; for the sake of his clan; and for the sake of the Empire and its subjects. However, is he willing to sacrifice for the good of all? Is he willing to condemn some for the sake of others? Is he willing to make the right, albeit harsh, decisions? Only the heavens would know. Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, businesses, events and incidents are the products of the author’s imagination. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental. Additionally, any views and beliefs expressed by the characters are not the author's own. The story is also not an endorsement of any actions taken within. The 'profanity' and 'sexual content' warning tags are there to be safe (and to leave room for potential future changes), but for now these two things are not inside this novel. This is my take on 'cultivation', though it might be somewhat disconnected from the general idea of the genre. Release schedule: Two chapters a week. The cover was created using wombo art. While I believe that creations using the app are in the public domain, if that is not the case, I will take it down.

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
