“Rain,” She called out.

Rain turned around and started walking towards her. “What is it?”

“Don’t stand too far to the front, it’s dangerous.” She said gently. “… You look like you’re going to rush out and fight at any moment.” She made a wry smile.

“But its fine, I can fight…”

“Nope, stay here. The Tolants are just too many, so this time, you’re going to sit out…” Zarda muttered as she stared at the battlefield. Although the warriors were doing fine but the Tolants’ number was quite enormous. In fact, they seemed to be increasing continuously.

This might mean that they are already almost there… the Queen should be far beyond this tunnel…

And Zarda would never allow Rain to join in that messy battlefield. In fact, there were many reasons as to why she didn’t want Rain to join in that dangerous place.

One is that Lafetti wouldn’t allow it and if he did participate, her focus will become a mess, trying to protect him and might cause more harm than good.

Though there are still many reasons…

- But the most important reason of all was that Rain was the only man in the tribe.

If he was there, they wouldn’t need to go outside and hunt some males when the mating season came…

This reason, all the Lamias knew about it and that is why they were treating him nicely and even go so far as to protect him. Because his existence alone is too much of an importance to them – this was also why Zarda never thought of killing him the moment she saw him.

And Lafetti knows about this, giving her mixed feelings. This was the reason why she never told Rain’s existence to anyone but now that it was revealed she doesn’t have any choice. It was the decision and most of all, the lifeline of the tribe…

In the far corner, several Tolants suddenly lifted boulders twice as big as them and started throwing it towards the group.

Seeing this, the Mages immediately started casting spells …

Some threw a crackling ball of fires, which went straight towards the boulders, exploding, creating casualties all around the Tolants crawling beneath them.

Then three mages cast higher ranking spells. A compressed flame spell, focusing the explosion on impact in one direction, increasing the piercing power of fireball.

After shooting, the long and thin flaming spears struck the incoming boulders, raining stones of fires towards the Tolants, burning and killing them in an instant.

Watching this scene, Rain sucks a cold breath and his eyes sparkled. He turned around and like a child; he appeared on Zarda, “Chief, I want to learn Magic!”

Yeah, at this moment he can feel it! As if crying, ‘Rain! Rain! Rain!’

Magic was calling to him.

He wanted to use magic!

Although that was certainly just an illusion, but sometimes it’s better to left imagination alone!

“Do you?”

Rain nodded hastily.

Zarda slithers behind him and suddenly hugged him, startling Rain. “Chief?!”

But Zarda pretends she didn’t hear him and continued pondering… “It’s no problem actually,” After a while she said.

Rain tried to get away but Zarda’s arms encircled him so tightly he felt like he was being bounded by rope.

He looked at the direction of Lafetti, hoping she would see him and maybe save him but unfortunately, Lafetti was too far in front, almost couldn’t see due to the explosions and Tolants around.

He wasn’t trying to have an affair, okay! But if Lafetti saw this and misunderstand, she might drown him alive!

That would be dangerous!

“… However, have you already tested your magic power and affinity?” Zarda ignored Rain’s struggling and act oh so naturally. Her voice was usual, gentle but a hidden gleam momentarily flashed across her eyes.

Rain didn’t notice it since he was still focusing on getting away but as soon as he heard something unfamiliar, his attention was grabbed and he stopped struggling. He turned around and looked at Zarda, “Tested? What’s that? More like how do you do that?”

A satisfaction surged through Zarda – indeed he had lost his memories.

“Ah right, you lost your memories…” She pretended to have just remembered.

Being tested by the amount of magic power and affinities was extremely normal in this world. Zarda, who had ventured the world before settling here, knew that every human village or cities will test the children if whether they can be mages through magic power and affinity.

If children show high magic power amount and good magic affinities, they will be sent to academies and there they would be molded into good mages. Many people wanted their children to be one, since becoming a mage means have a high status in human society!

Being tested by magic power and affinities, everyone knows that as they give it extreme importance.

Thus, many children were aspiring to become magicians.

And if Rain was not lying about his memory loss, he should know about it and even if he pretended that he didn’t, there would be a delay in answering or something would show up from his expression. Zarda was testing him… and as a result, nothing was strange or indication that he was lying.

Indeed, he didn’t lie about his memories…

Zarda finally heave a sigh of relief… but nothing shows up from her expression.

“Before you became a Mage or a Magician, either way, they’re the same… you needed to be tested for the amount of magic power you possess whether you are fit to become a magician.”

“… …”

“That also goes with the affinity you possess,” Zarda explained. “Wind, Fire, Water, Earth, Light, and lastly Darkness, these are the most basic magical affinities a person can possess. There were some others called Irregular Elements which was extremely rare. Probably one in a thousand can possess these elements. The known Irregular Elements were Lightning, Ice, Gravity, Corrosion, and Death – Well, there were still probably more but, that would be another matter.”

“Anyway, most only have one element, two was rare and three was even rarer…” Zarda opened his palm and a black haze suddenly appeared, forming into a ball of blackness then it disappeared and was replaced by an icicle… “I’m a dual type Elemental – Darkness and Ice…”

“Cool…” Rain sighed in amazement. “Then I need to be tested to know whether I can become a Mage, right? Then test me now? What will I do?”

Seeing Rain’s excited behavior, the smile on Zarda’s face became even wider and the arms around Rain hugged even tighter, pulling him towards her.

Rain noticed this but he didn’t say anything… he already gave up. In any case, being hugged by the most beautiful woman he had ever seen, he didn’t lose out, in fact, he thinks he won something, though he doesn't know what – probably something called – Life…

“Silly, that’s not as easy as you think it is…”

“Why?”

“Testing one’s magic power and affinity needed a tool. It looks like a stone, a mineral, anyway, you needed that to do it…”

“Where can I find it then?” Rain asked, a bit disappointed. He actually wanted to use magic as soon as possible.

In the status, he had mana – if that was what he thinks he is, he should have some magic power then, although he didn’t know whether it’s a lot, too few or at least passable…

“You don’t need to. Wait after we finished here and returned. There were several of that stone in the village… if you want; we can go test them…”

[ Indeed Master! Mana is equivalent to Magic Power and as a beginner I think your mana quantity should be a lot, though I’m not so sure since it wasn’t recorded in my information archives… ]

‘Really?!’ Hearing Sylphy’s confirmation, Rain was ecstatic. ‘What about my magic affinity?’

[ As for that, I still don’t know though it would be awakened when you touch the Magic Stone. Since you’re not a native of this world, your magic circuit is not still open… human born in this world will be baptized by the mana from the air, since it’s quite abundant here unlike your world, which barely has, opening their Magic Circuit in the process. As for transmigrators like the master, it needed a stimulus and that stimulus is precisely the Magic Stone. ]

‘… …’

[ Magic Stone possess quite a huge amount of mana and to measure one’s affinity, this mana will pass through every Magic Circuit in a person’s body… and that will also happen to you, Master. In simple words, the Magic Stone will make a path inside of you for the mana or what they call magic power to enter your body… ]

‘I see, I understand…’ Rain nodded at Sylphy explanation.

[ In fact, Master, your Mana shouldn’t have increased since there’s no Magic Circuit in your body yet, magic power in the air cannot enter your body… that is why most people don't have an ability to become mages because even with Mana baptism, their Magic Circuit was not properly formed… though as for you, my beloved master, your mana increased through eating… which was quite absurd if you ask me… ]

Rain shrugs at Sylphy’s comment. He can’t help it, he was a lucky man…

Just like what Sylphy had said, without Mana Baptism, Rain should have possessed a low amount of mana without any means of increasing it. However, as strange as it was, his mana was still slowly increasing due to eating Monster meats – [ Predation ].

If he had undergoes baptism, just how much amount of mana would be added? Sylphy can’t help but think so… it would be quite an amazing amount of someone who was just starting…
